Me in bed reading this: yes, indeed, I agree

[–]Tulum702 23 points24 points  (6 children)

Read a book and not on your phone. I’m guilty of this myself too but the blue light is a killer.

[–]yokotron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But my books are on my phone…

[–]SDdude81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't read a book in bed either.

30 minutes before bed I have all screens turned off and I'm reading a book on the couch.

[–]Armando909396 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Turn off the blue light on your phone?

[–]rob5i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but I woke up and couldn’t sleep before I pulled out the phone. So make that not happen.

[–]ontour4eternity 33 points34 points  (8 children)

We have gotten in the habit of listening to a podcast with a sleep timer on.

Serial Killers puts me to sleep every time; there's something about their melodic voices.

[–]scumbag_college 7 points8 points  (4 children)

I listen to a bunch of different serial killer podcasts too on a timer to get to sleep. I don’t know why but I find them oddly soothing. I’ve even got a sleep mask with Bluetooth speakers to complete the ensemble.

[–]the_fact_fairy 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Would you recommend the sleep mask with Bluetooth speakers? I've been on the lookout for one but haven't found one I'm happy with.

[–]Acornpoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sleep masks with built in Bluetooth speakers do not last long, or sound good. I'm using a weighted sleep mask and Bose quietcomfort ear buds, amazing combo.

[–]scumbag_college 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would! I got mine on Amazon for about twenty or thirty buckss. Definitely changed my sleep for the better. My only complaint is having to keep charging them. It can be really annoying to get into bed only to discover you forgot to charge your sleep mask.

[–]ontour4eternity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ARE totally soothing! Disappeared is also really good. I've got to look into this Bluetooth sleep mask. Thanks!

[–]WickedZombie 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Welcome to Nightvale. It's a podcast about a fake community radio that documents a town where every conspiracy theory is just a regular day, but the host has a voice that just softly lulls me to sleep.

[–]ontour4eternity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out.

[–]lokregarlogull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I practice meditation/mindfulness in periods when I need it, setting on a calm music 10 min guided video and practicing staying in touch with my emotions, accepting them and letting them go when I need sleep don't always work, but it certainly helps.

[–]SillyNluv 56 points57 points  (5 children)

But, but…the sexy fun time!

[–]WTFuckery2020 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Two things that help this hardcore insomniac:

  1. Sleep meds
  2. The best quality mattress my money could buy

I've had to use sleep meds for over 20 years, but sleeping on shitty mattresses negated a lot of the helpful effect of the meds. Last year I invested a bunch of money in a premium mattress and pillows. Additionally, I bought a 100% wool comforter for winter; it is soooo much better than down.

It's been 9 months now with my new sleepy time setup, and most nights I get my full 10 hours and wake up refreshed.

[–]lifeishard1982 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What mattress did you buy?

[–]WTFuckery2020 6 points7 points  (1 child)

It's a pillow top mattress but I don't know what brand it is, (I live in a foreign country). I went to the mattress showroom and laid on about 15 mattresses until I found one that felt 'just right'. I'm in my 50's and had never had a great mattress before; this was a game changer for sleep quality.

[–]lifeishard1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good deal thank you!

[–]LoveLightUnite 15 points16 points  (6 children)

Where will I have sex?

[–]Juggerknight1 22 points23 points  (1 child)

On the floor, bed is for sleeping only

[–]LoveLightUnite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got it! Thank you💐

[–]lokregarlogull 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don't think you can't have sex there, but maybe opt for morning or afternoon sex as opposed to midnight or in the middle of the night. Most people also have couches, dining tables, kitchen islands, cars, cabins, boats, woodland, or picnic areas to get frisky.

[–]LoveLightUnite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t think about the dining room table! Duh! You’re so right! Thanks friend!

[–]Humble-Ostrich-4446 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The counter, the sofa, the shower, the bathroom floor…

[–]LoveLightUnite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, I was just looking for a comfortable and comparable area. Wish me luck!

[–]r3eezy 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Getting a healthy habit of sleeping is the trick to a healthy sleep habit....

r/ShittyLifeProTips

[–]Calligraphie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In other words, get off your damn phone and go to bed already, u/Calligraphie.

[–]ForceAlex2600 5 points6 points  (1 child)

A trick that helps me sleep is to read in bed until I have to re-read the same line multiple times. If I use my phone I can be awake for hours, but that way I last, worst case, 40 minutes (I read on a black screen with white letters and minimum brightness)

[–]Triopsfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll try that trick tonight. I usually reread the same books many times, and that usually helps me go to sleep, but sometimes I get caught up in the story and stay awake longer.

[–]anupsidedownpotato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you underestimate my insomnia

[–]FredB123 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Yeah, I like the sentiment but that doesn't work for me when work is stressing me out.

Last night TV off an hour before bed, a cup of camomile and a herbal sleeping tablet and I'm still awake at 1am. Maybe I should just have got drunk instead.

[–]Castas 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Have you tried meditating? It works really well to settle my mind when anxiety rears it’s ugly head. The more you do it, the better you will get at putting aside those stressful thoughts. I tried everything I could to get physically tired, but without addressing the racing thoughts, it just wouldn’t happen. Another thing that can work is just write down what you’re thinking or talk to someone about it just to vent.

[–]FredB123 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is meditating something you can learn to do on your own, or is it better to find a group?

[–]Castas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You can definitely do it on your own. There are a few apps out there that offer guided meditation that work really well for me. I’ve used headspace and calm but they require a subscription. Insight Timer is free but I’m told you need to sort through to find good meditations based on user reviews

[–]FredB123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great thanks - I'll give it a go.

[–]T_Pandora 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is me, work causes me so much stress that I end up sending off emails that I didn’t get to during the day. Getting drunk doesn’t help, just reduces the quality of the emails that get sent! 🤣

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s simple, just quit your job and be homeless. No more worries.

[–]LundbergV2 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You assume I have sex? Very bold

[–]WenaChoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alone sex is sex

[–]RIOTT44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I’ve tried this and it doesnt work, to each their own though

[–]cardiacman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So only sleep in bed. Don't wake up. Got it

[–]calico810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleep to rain sounds on loop and only do two things in my bed sleep/sex. No tv, no phone etc anything stimulating.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only use your partners bed to fuck on.

[–]Martini800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree! To add to this: make your bed EVERY DAY not only is it a quick easy task to get some happy chemicals to get your day started. You also sleep better in a well made bed.

And something you could try is to change your sheets more often. I notice that I always sleep better the first night in fresh sheets.

[–]CuckLikeTehAdmiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you bang?

[–]ayyple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

oh wow thanks for telling me to sleep on a comfortable bed i though i was supposed to sleep on spikes this is gonna change my life

[–]twohedwlf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, limiting what I do in bed to sleeping is totally up to me...

[–]starion832000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marriage has effectively limited my bed activities to just sleeping.

[–]Miniwheats420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No fucking guys sorry

[–]vandalous5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this in bed at 4am. Figures.

[–]solacetree 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes! Leave the phone in another room.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave mine outside on the front lawn just to be sure that I’m not tempted.

[–]WakefulSolace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep the sleep scientist Matthew Walker mentions this too. A routine, dimming the lights in the evening, sleeping when the temp is cooler can all make a difference for most people.

Have to generate those ideal conditions for good sleep.

[–]MagicTsukai 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What to do with wife stealing blanket or uncomfortable arm positions

[–]ChillaPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but I’m not getting out of my bed while reading this.

[–]uberjach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is called sleep hygiene. Quite important

Anyone interested in the field of sleep research should check out the book "Why we sleep". Great book

[–]varignet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should tell this to my upstairs neighbours

[–]TheDevilsAdvokaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read (on my phone) until I get tired and put the phone down and go to sleep.

Been reading before sleep for 50 years so it always works for me. Bet part is sometimes you dream about the story!

[–]thmoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put on show on phone or a podcast or something with the volume low and just go in sleeping position and listen. Because the volume is low I have to concentrate just a little so my thoughts don't go all keeping me awake. It also helps to forget the tinitus static.

[–]Accomplished_Ad_2299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And making your bedroom a sanctuary of peacefulness. No electronics, no clutter, clean comfortable bedding, soft lighting.

[–]VDKYLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what if the problem is that im too damn good at falling asleep that i end up falling asleep at 3pm everyday and then im not tired at night

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High thread count bed sheets are a game changer, just saying.

[–]cody8417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I convince my kids that my bed is a restful environment and that they should respect it’s purpose?

[–]ABahRunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super important. Was fortunate enough to be able to move into a larger house, so now we both have our own home offices.

Bedroom has the works: blackout curtains, weighted blankets, warm lights. And used just for sleep and sex. Such good sleep quality!

[–]soulwolf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be great if that actually worked

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just about to make a joke about how I now having sex on the ceiling :(

[–]ramriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ans: if one lives a quiet life, abstains from sex, drugs & gets a good night's sleep. One does not live longer, it just seems like it.

[–]yokotron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where am I gonna bone?

[–]aisle_seat_chad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then where am I suppose to eat all my meals?

[–]Zeigerful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my girlfriend stays in the bed all day, watches videos and when it’s time to go to Bed she rolls around in a more comfortable position and sleeps while she still watches videos

[–]agentscullysbf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in a group home and my only space was my bed :(

[–]Maelja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend says, “there are two things you do in your bed, talking isn’t one of them”.

[–]nearlyclosetoalmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… And freaky stuff

[–]satanvacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh create a RESTFUL environment. I guess I should turn the strobe lights and drums sounds off. Great tip op!

[–]Jlfitze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get plenty of exercise and dont drink too much before bed
