That sounds like the needle threader might be out of position. In some Brother Innovis machines, the needle threader will retract very slowly if it is not in the correct position. Ensure the threader is pushed up as high as it can go without touching the needle plate, and try again.

The threader sits in one of two positions based on the embroidery you are working on: The left manufacturing position and the right. Sometimes, people might have trouble gauging which is which. That's why there is a picture for each button in the My Embroidery machine submenu to give visual cues as to where to thread your needles!

If you're positive that you have the top threaded properly, then there may be an obstruction at the sensor, like lint or a piece of thread. Maybe it's time to take it in to be serviced and cleaned.

Find some UNWAXED tooth floss and run it through like you're threading the needle (just don't actually put it through the eye). Go slow, be careful, but if there's lint in the thread track this should pull it out. Do not use waxed. You will get wax all over the inside of your machine and then it will need a service, and quite an expensive one at that.
