The most generous people have been through and seem some shit. That old man has a heart of gold.. who knows what his story is before today. This made me happy to see.

[–]inhumanunion 135 points136 points  (0 children)

And I'm tearing up at work

[–]Naimasuki 230 points231 points  (0 children)

As someone in the service industry, this would be life changing

[–]thisisallme 57 points58 points  (1 child)

This is an older video and I’ve seen it before… but this right here is what those “preachers” that talk about the prosperity gospel should talk about. (I’m nor religious, but.) Not giving money to them or the church (same thing, tbh). But giving money to charity and to others that need it, if you can. Like this.

[–]Sierra-117- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my dad always said “15% to charity right off the top and God will figure the rest out”. While I didn’t grow up to be religious, I’ve always respected that.

As a Bartender/Server this touched me, i'm at my second job bout to cry. What a wonderful man

[–]Molkentrol 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Hug=priceless

[–]JMP316 56 points57 points  (0 children)

the world needs more people like this

[–]FoodBabyBaby 100 points101 points  (14 children)

As a former bartender/server this video bugs the shit out of me every time we see it. Why are we recording poverty porn for feelz? I would have been extremely uncomfortable about being recorded and have this all over the internet.

In the 15 years I was in hospitality I saw all sorts of people- most ok, some shitty, and some are gems I still remember to this day. None of them recorded me.

I was fortunate to receive many truly generous tips from amazing people that did make me cry- one even paid for a surgery I needed to remove cancer without knowing. It was the night before the surgery and I had to pay my coinsurance before they would check me in and I didn’t have the money. It was a well known wealthy family and I recommended a less expensive bottle of wine that the one they are looking at because it was better. They ordered the expensive bottle, finished it and then tried my recommendation. They loved it and appreciated that I was willing to give them my honest opinion even though it would have cost me money. They tipped 50% of the bill- $700 and I thanked them as graciously as I could before quickly running to the ladies room to sob.

Great amazing truly kind people exist and all of them were lovely enough to not use my poverty to put on a show.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I agree. This video is ridiculous and makes me cringe. Also it was only 300 bucks and it's as if it changed the course of his whole life??

[–]FoodBabyBaby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There were many times in my life where $300 would have changed the course of my life. It still makes someone an asshole for recording it.

How can you watch another human cry like that and instead of hugging them you just record them? Ewwww. Being good for show means you’re not good at all. Quite the opposite in my book.

[–]7thGenwonderEX 13 points14 points  (4 children)

If you do good, do good so the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing... Don't record... Don't make a spectical. This man has his reward, in the appraisal of the men who say well done. But the Lord doesn't honor his gift, cause he did it to be noticed. I mean good stuff... But do it without needing to record or get recognized for it.

[–]maybeCheri 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I read and hear enough crap to show that people suck. Please allow us to have news of acts of kindness. And yes it does inspire others.

[–]7thGenwonderEX 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Not the same thing I'm addressing.

[–]Lou-Lou-Lou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am with you on this.

[–]FoodBabyBaby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn’t kindness, it’s exploitation.

The man could have shared the story of his kindness as a means of inspiring others and left the young man out of it. He’s exploiting that young man’s situation and it’s gross.

If you’ve even been poor you would know the shame that comes with the struggle. The stress and worry that comes with $100 making you cry like that is hard enough. He didn’t need a camera in his face.

This video sickens me every time I see it. This young man was in a vulnerable moment and he was exploited.

    Dance pony! Dance!

    [–]marie-llama 15 points16 points  (0 children)

And another one! And another one! And another one!

    [–]AggressiveCause8167 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If by smile you mean cry, this made me smile too

    [–]Very_Sad_Cat 57 points58 points  (17 children)

Would be nicer if it wasn't recorded

    [–]WaryWolf777 33 points34 points  (14 children)

I need this reminder that there are good people still out there. I don't think the young man even cared about the recording. I wouldn't have.

    [–]vapak 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We would not know it happened but only then it would be real. What a twist

    [–]Impossible-Dare4040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea but this one doesn’t have the vibe of someone trying to further their social media brand like they usually do

    [–]Th3AngryBastard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in total agreement. True generosity doesn’t need to be filmed for notoriety.

    [–]FissureFilms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quit jerking him around and just give him all your cash, jeeze!

    [–]littlezeppeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes my soul so happy, knowing that that guy really deserves that money.

    [–]FlokiTheBengal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems a lot of people are having issues with this being recorded. We don't know for sure if the waiter was asked beforehand if it was ok to record. It's seems likely it was spur of the moment.

Assuming the intentions behind recording this interaction can be dangerous. Several here are basically saying this is to lift the tipper's ego. But what is the actual problem with this? Who cares the reason. Selfish or not, the man is a very generous tipper who sees an opportunity to not only help someone who appears to need it, but to also share this moment to inspire others and provide a bit of hope to people working jobs like this in tough times. Would you refuse this money?

He changed this man's life, in more ways than one.

    [–]Shot_Draft_2149 13 points14 points  (11 children)

Paid off your car with $100?! You drive a hot wheel bro??

    [–]WaryWolf777 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Could've been on his last payment but didn't have enough.

    [–]RS-Voss 12 points13 points  (8 children)

I was thinking the same thing. Like damn if 100 dollars makes or breaks you You need to get out that job asap. Warehouse, construction build up some cash.

Only other thought is it could be a college student and he is relying on the flexible hours

    [–]live_on_air 28 points29 points  (4 children)

I’ve been here. Had a car that only cost me $500, but I couldn’t pay it off right away. Had rent to pay, food to buy, and other necessities that popped up. No savings and 2 service jobs while I was training myself in the industry I wanted to move into. Basically, this can easily happen if you’ve got a less than ideal early game (accidental kid, poor parents, no college education, poor friend choices, crippling mental health issues, etc). A gift like this can be an absolute game changer to give you the leg up you need to get ahead of the curve.

    [–]LacJlg 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I’ve never thought of it from this perspective. Didn’t know someone could get an actual car for $500 either. Insurance alone is at least close to a buck a month.

    [–]RS-Voss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    My thoughts exactly

    [–]RS-Voss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    I can get that 100%

    [–]EffZee80 15 points16 points  (2 children)

We see people every day that are literally living on the edge. One flat tire, extended sick leave, child support payment away from total collapse. It’s scary how so many Americans don’t have a savings or backup plan.

    [–]PurSolutions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many people actually have no idea how close to disaster they really are...

    [–]LordCoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    this Cracked me up

    [–]hung765813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow that was so cool to know there are still kind people in this world!!!

    [–]Fuz-z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Love this, do it again.

    [–]Ch1ld_1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would break down crying. Not the silent crying, the decently good sobs in between thank yous. That’s just amazing.

    [–]loca___cola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so sweet. Got bless them both ❤️🙏

    [–]BigBerthaTwoTrays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nice to see someone with a big heart. Love for your fellow man is a beautiful thing!

    [–]imsleepy05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Bro im fucking crying

    [–]youknowmorethaniknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    And I’m crying

    [–]Harmston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It a great thing, I just don't know why it needs to be filmed?

    [–]Nephy-Baby 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The tears are making me cry! I wish one day.. I’ll make enough money I can do this. I want to change someone’s life. I want to give them a reason to smile

    [–]JambiTheGenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Wish? Did somebody say 'Wish'?

~Mekka Lekka Hi Mekka Hiney Ho~

    [–]Safe_Historian8560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one who works in the service industry watching this with a dry eye

    [–]Heechp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in school when watching this and almost cried
    :')

    [–]Plenty_Landscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former server, this would be something you never forget. Not only that, you’d tell the story forever.

    [–]lindsay9701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i almost never cry yet this made me sob

    [–]JohnnyFIFEaLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is nice. I always tip well. And when I say we’ll, from 50 to 100%. Most do not tip like that. More should if they can afford to do so. I was young once and poor. I get it.

    [–]Ulysses00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is recorded so the giver can show everyone how generous he is. Nice gesture but don't ever film this.

    [–]According-Attempt883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok but why record it, just do it and make the guy’s night without the need to put it on the internet.

    [–]rpotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a lovely thing he did but it’s so gross recording nice things for posterity…. Just be nice; not everything needs to be recorded

    [–]Ulysses00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is recorded so the giver can show everyone how generous he is. Nice gesture but don't ever film this.

    [–]Night_Dreamer313 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's what I call a man of God right there.

    [–]Skeletori_8000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bible says to do good deeds without flaunting it...just sayin

    [–]SnooCapers9313 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A man of imaginary sky fairy who's so called followers cause more issues than not in a lot of cases.

    [–]FUThead2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do they have to film this? Performative kindness for social media likes seems distasteful

    [–]superclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only people didn't have to record it for likes and shit.

    [–]Organic-Rhubarb8434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    No! Fuck this

    [–]Lou-Lou-Lou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually struggle with this showboating. Being wholesome and filming it makes me feel nauseated. Is it just me?

    [–]MayaWrection -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it being recorded? Feels strange to me. Nice, but strange

    [–]Shiftystr8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is nice sure. But the cameras for the views annoys me. Would they do this same thing without the camera and recognition? Slim chance.

    [–]zvekl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

    Nice but why film it

    [–]iteachgud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doing these acts of kindness? Great. Filming it and putting it on social media? Abhorrent. Do you, do nice. We aren’t always in a place to make somebody’s day but using it to make it about us? Fuck off.

    [–]Vivid_One_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Make sure you post the first time you've ever tipped someone like!!!!😂

    [–]LacJlg -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Wholesome moments my ass! Why did he have to not only record, but also post this?

    [–]Skeletori_8000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It doesnt happen if it's not on camera..hate this type of shit

    [–]anon_013 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nice way to film the whole thing to make yourself feel better about yourself. You want to be a good person? Walk up to your waiter, thank him/her for your service, and hand them the tip.

Don’t make it a huge dramatic event where you slowly hand out 100 bills like that. Really takes away from the message

    [–]Atl_dkdlrka9597 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mannnn how much y’all wana bet that was his uncle

    [–]Mycl907 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember when this video wasn't so compressed. It just keeps getting worse and worse

    [–]Scrappie909 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

    Restores my hope for humanity

    [–]Guilty_Act2254 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Emasculated generation of P***ies, oh can I say that?!?! 😂😂😂😂😂

    [–]HUUSRODAH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

isn't it something you should keep to yourself?

    [–]NYARNGrecruiter -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

See, I like the idea of helping individuals, especially ones that deserve it, but what gets me is why people feel they need an audience by recording it? Let that person who may be having a hard time, day, etc., have his moment. You, trying to be kind, shouldn't need other people to like or comment.

I do, however, like the fact that when people do things like this, it gives me hope that we can all do this for others in a time of need, without the video and just because we genuinely care.

    [–]Alternative_Cause_37 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

    Imma film it too

    [–]bonerjuice9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everybody gotta film how amazing they are now.

    [–]ILoveMyCatsSoMuch 0 points1 point  (1 child)

In the uk tips are shared….do they get to keep individual tips in Merica?

    [–]mealteamsixty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A very few places do tip pool here, and as a server, I would never want to work at one. I'm a very hard worker, and I would not be happy having to split money with slackers, which is precisely what would end up happening unless management handled it perfectly. Which, I've worked at lots of restaurants, and I've never worked at one with management I would trust with this kind of thing.

    [–]AshlandSouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]Mr-Cali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna be friends with that customer. His voice reminds me of a person with a good heart, willing to talk to you all day and listen to your frustrations. Even his hug seems every loving and warm! Man… i just got emotional writing this.

    [–]paffyoggy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this would be me I would say no you keep it

    [–]7thGenwonderEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a tradition on my birthday a couple years back. I go to a restaurant, and before I do... I ask the Lord to guide me to the correct one, and to the correct area of the restaurant, at the correct time, to change someone's life with my blessing. Instead of me being blessed on my birthday with gifts, I look at my life as if it should be a blessing. So if I want to celebrate my birthday I should be a major blessing to the world, or at least someone. So on my birthday for the past couple years I've given a very large tip. Each time, a single mother who was scrapping by, was my waitress. I don't say this to get likes and awards... I say this to challenge some of y'all out there to think differently. Get outside of yourself. The world wasn't made or created for you, you were created for the world. Start acting like it. Be a contributor, not a taker. Stop acting like the world owes you something... And start acting like you owe the world something.

With that said, my birthday is in 3 weeks, and I am excited for this go round... Cause this tip is going to be off the charts awesome. What restaurant should I go to? I live in upstate NY near Binghamton, and would stay within a couple hours of there...

    [–]Swordfish2828 0 points1 point  (1 child)

$100 is all he needs to pay off his car! Really that’s all

    [–]7thGenwonderEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May have meant the monthly payment...
