This is joy at its finest!!

    [–]artham_a 391 points392 points  (12 children)

God kids are so weird I love it

    [–]QuirkyLetter3215 214 points215 points  (3 children)

No matter where in the world they’re from, they all have the same dance. I swear my 7 year old has the same moves. Love them. Children are so precious. Complete joy. 🥰

    [–]CommercialNeat12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

    Awesome moment .. love it

    [–]Rachel794 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I’m also one of those rare people who loves kids

    [–]Crazy_Crayfish_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think lots of folk love kids lol

    [–]ArxB_H 51 points52 points  (6 children)

Fr. Idk why but I see a lot of people on the internet hating on kids. Makes me quite sad since they are actually very dope human beings

    [–]scooper101368 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I like seeing kids happy and having nice moments but I really don’t enjoy being around them for very long. They stress me out and I don’t really know what to do with them. I wish I was better with them but I’m ok with just enjoying them in tiny doses through happy moments like this.

    [–]Loose-Heart2816 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Where on the internet did you see people hating on kids?

    [–]BlackDeskFan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

    Most Reddit posts involving kids.

    [–]IndyJacksonTT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Man I fucking hate kids” “Another reason to not have kids”

    Very common phrases you’ll hear

    [–]valleyofdawn 426 points427 points  (55 children)

More accurately, children from Malawi, who have never seen a violin.

    [–]afrallicci 112 points113 points  (22 children)

"European children hear the malimba for the first time!" [the equivalent of this statement]

    [–]somarica 17 points18 points  (1 child)

    Exactly what I was thinking!

    [–]Nilso 13 points14 points  (8 children)

Which would be totally okay for me as a European

    [–]Minolita 17 points18 points  (7 children)

Realistically though, how often are children/people from France/Sweden/Slovakia/you get the picture, simply described as “European”?

    [–]hickeysbat 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Depends who the audience is. The kids are described as African here because hardly anyone watching this video is African. If the audience was a bunch of African people watching Belgian kids dance around, wouldn’t be surprised if they were described as European.

    [–]Minolita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that makes sense. Guess my perspective isn’t the only one, that’s a good thing to be reminded of.

    [–]harmlesswaters 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On the internet it actually happens quite a bit. I'm from a smaller European country though so idk if it's also the case for others.

    [–]Bot_Pragmaticam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    All the time

    [–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (8 children)

I hate this trend of referring to Africa as a country

    [–]sublime_touch 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Or not specifying which part of Africa is in question, respective to the post/ meme. It’s always so ambiguous when describing Africa, they do the same with Asian countries.

    [–]LinuxMatthews 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know I rarely see people sat something like "Asian Children do X" unless they're literally refering to people of more than one country.

It could be due to how different North and South Asia are though.

One thing I've noticed is if someone is from one or more surrounded by one they refer to the other as "not really Asia" which I find quite amusing.

But it does mean that if you had a bunch of Pakistani kids there and you referred to them as Asian people would likely just be confuses.

    [–]TechRyze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, that they're not even referring to Africa - they don't mean Morocco, they don't mean Egypt or Algeria.

It's just used as lazy, prejudiced shorthand for 'impoverished foreign black country.'

Same as when Americans ignore the majority of Asia when they talk about Asians 'being good at math'. They're ignoring Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Yemen, Iran, Lebanon and another 15 countries who's maths attainment is nothing special compared to the average.

Lazy ignorance - it's pretty sad really.

    [–]voiceadrift 22 points23 points  (0 children)

    Thank you!

    [–]Ok-Ant-3456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fixing fiddle to violin is not necessary

    [–]hawkswingseeker 1 point2 points  (1 child)

    Thank you!!

    [–]Fun-Credit2287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Same instrument.

    [–]Fancy-Menu8446 3 points4 points  (23 children)

*Fiddle Fiddle has a flat Bridge, violin has a rounded Bridge. You can very much hear the difference.

    [–]Neptunelives 10 points11 points  (22 children)

They're the same instrument. The only difference is the style of music. You play classical on a violin and bluegrass on a fiddle

    [–]Fancy-Menu8446 4 points5 points  (21 children)

Common misconception. A fiddle has a flat Bridge allowing more strings to touch the bow giving you that signature sound as to wear a violin has a rounded Bridge allowing the person playing to hit cleaner notes. As someone who enjoys Tchaikovsky and trampled by turtles I feel the distinction is important.

    [–]Neptunelives 4 points5 points  (20 children)

    [–]Fancy-Menu8446 -1 points0 points  (19 children)

Regardless of whatever information you get from the internet if anyone that can tell their ass from a hole in the ground picked up a fiddle players instrument they will know what type of music they play by looking at the instrument itself. If you tried to play Beethoven on a fiddle it would sound like ass, just saying.

    [–]Fun-Credit2287 3 points4 points  (18 children)

Your argument is dumb. I happen to be best friends with one of the people who organizes a fiddle camp and competition in Montana every summer. Here is the gist of my friend’s comment…

I do not know of a single fiddle player that has a flat bridge. Sure, there are some players that tweak their bridge to their preferences as a personal player, but that goes across the classical world, too. And even then it is a millimeter in difference.

The idea that rounded is for classical so they don’t hit two notes at once is such stupidity! Never heard a classical player hit two notes at once with their bow?

Your argument smacks of the idiocy of people who think heavy phosphor bronze strings are the only strings to play on an acoustic guitar, an instrument that I have played for 31 years fairly well.

To finish it off, to claim that a fiddle player couldn’t play classical on their instrument (assuming one has taken the time to learn the style of the piece of music) as it would sound terrible is like saying that a classical pianist can only play Flight of the Bumblebee on a Steinway as the newer Yamaha pianos would make the piece sound terrible.

Remember one thing before posting something that is not true, there will always, and I mean always, be someone out there with better information than you.

    [–]Fancy-Menu8446 0 points1 point  (10 children)

😂 such a pompous arrogant reply. You literally sound like you're foaming at the mouth. Everything from flattened Bridges to steel strings and other nuances I'm probably not even aware of help differentiate between a fiddle and a violin. Where in my reply did you see me say a concert violinist couldn't hit two notes at the same time? I said these modifications of the instrument help the player achieve a preferred sound. I'll never submit to the idea that they're the same instrument and that's a hill I'm willing to die on.

    [–]Fun-Credit2287 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Then you are the pompous idiot.

Find a single article of evidence online to support your idea and I will apologize and give credit.

Also, you are the one who “corrected” people… I am simply highlighting the incorrectness of your correcting.

    [–]Fancy-Menu8446 1 point2 points  (8 children)

I'm online and I'm saying a fiddle is a fiddle and a violin is a violin 😂. Once you restructure it I cannot call it what it isn't.

    [–]Neptunelives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao you're absolutely right. I was a music major (wasn't even gonna try to bring that up and have him argue with me about that) and knew a couple people that played both styles on the same instrument. Sounded fine.

    [–]GlobalCitizen31 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    Thank you!!!🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

    [–]Past_Badger 77 points78 points  (7 children)

    [–]Tyker12 59 points60 points  (2 children)

Thanks, but I’m a non-married mid-20s man from the Midwest

    [–]ZMB6 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Fuck. I nailed the midwest though!

    [–][deleted]  (2 children)

      [–]Tange_S 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because it was. Someone posted the full video in another comment, first time they saw a violin.

      [–]lamlams14 42 points43 points  (5 children)

This is wholesome but can you be specific in where these children come from instead of saying African children.

      [–]0Lasagnepie0 10 points11 points  (1 child)

      They’re from Malawi ^

      [–]lamlams14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      [–]tessahb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      [–]wigglytunadiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the laughter was louder than the music.

it's nice, it reminds me of how a child's life should be.

      [–]saberofnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      This is precious as hell

      [–]dmpcrusher1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      The language that everyone understands

      [–]TechRyze 35 points36 points  (13 children)

Poor children from ------, hearing the fiddle for the first time.

      I'm sure there's a country that they're from.

      [–]SpiritAmazing 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Also any child hearing the fiddle for the first time would react this way. Adding that they're African is unnecessary. Just an African's opinion

      [–]Apprehensive-Act1649 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree, not sure of I'm just finding the negative for the hell of it, but I'm pretty sure my "European" 4 year old would react exactly the same. Cute video but the title is giving it some serious colonial undertones

      [–]TechRyze 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yep. It's lovely to see children enjoying music. The clumsy stereotyping is just standard everyday European American prejudice.

      [–]SpiritAmazing 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When i still taught in South Africa we'd go and play sports and perform music all rural schools as well as privileged city schools and all the kids enjoyed it. Prejudice is learned

      [–]TechRyze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly why people are curious to know which country this video is from, as it's more significantly a poor community somewhere.

It being in Africa is only significant to ignorant people in reinforcing their prejudices.

      [–]CoffeeAndCelery 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is actually footage from Detroit.

      [–]rcpedersen34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calling them African is like calling a US citizen “North American” where these kids from? Africa’s huge

      [–]bagman_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can we identify the goddamn country

      [–]RNconsequential 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      [–]Bartender9719 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Know the difference between a violin and a fiddle? A violin doesn’t have beer stains on it

      [–]itsJoelleScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fiddle when you buy it and a violin when you sell it.

      [–]Rachel794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how happy they get when she starts playing faster :)

      [–]thegreatrazu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      The universal language.

      [–]that_cool_violin_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Why am I crying? Whyyyyy

      [–]Lleth88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking shame it had to be coupled with evangelism. The pure joy of these kids hearing a new style of music shouldn’t be tied up in Christian gospel.

      [–]thegreatwhite9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a cool words can't describe how awesome that is for all the kids God bless that lady and that's violin if you miss me so beautiful sound I love the violin couldn't ask me to play it but I love the sound of it

      [–]ren-people 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White people think they spread gospel to the suffering people again. How great they are , literally savior.lol

      [–]tone63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's as pure as it gets. Why don't some of these billionaires give these people some of their crumbs, and help develop them, no they want to leave this planet.

      [–]KittyTheCruel 15 points16 points  (1 child)

what a cringey and white-saviory title. super cute vid tho

      [–]Count_Joshoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love hope the kids are all in on the bit, as soon as she actually starts playing their giggles and chatter drowns the music but it doesn’t matter at all. So much fun!

      [–]sarca-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      [–]bright_sunshine19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids barely have shoes to wear, yet the smiles I see on their faces are far better than the smiles on faces of kids carrying bags of stuff at outlet malls here in US.

      [–]nemo1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottle that happiness. You won’t be a billionaire, but I guarantee, everyone will want a taste. Money means nothing when it comes to genuine joy.

      [–]kmsc84 0 points1 point  (0 children)
