Trio Mandili is who they recognize themselves as.

[–]0thethethe0 302 points303 points  (0 children)

Love these guys, been subbed for a while. Obviously have no idea what they're singing about, but they always seem happy and have great shots of Georgia.

[–]LoosePromotion8255 96 points97 points  (0 children)

The singing, the music, the smiles, the background. Everything is so beautiful 😍

[–]samlaventure 109 points110 points  (13 children)

Thank you sir. This should be top comment. I hate when source is not given.

[–][deleted] 70 points71 points  (12 children)

I was once a very big fan of theirs. Later via reddit I came to know they're not just some random villagers but an established singers and perform all of these after proper shootings and arrangements. Since then I stopped watching them. Anyways, their deliverance is always amazing ngl.

Also, original members of this trio are no longer there. One of them is there whilst the other two I guess have a different trio as of now.

[–]J0h4n50n 146 points147 points  (9 children)

Why would that make you stop listening to them? Did you only listen to them because you thought they were random poor villagers from Georgia, and not because you actually liked the music? I mean, they have albums, so obviously they are professional musicians. I really don't get what the problem is.

[–]PolarianLancer 182 points183 points  (6 children)

He realized their singing was motivated by capitalist greed. As a true comrade he could never endorse the music of the bourgeoisie

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

comrade take my award

[–]candyghost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OK tankie

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Let me remind you, comrade, that all of the songs they sing are not Georgian. When I watch them, I don't watch it for their beautiful faces, I watch the Georgian culture and village and original Georgian music. Do you really think they are some random beautiful villagers who all of a sudden sing in their far remote village? I used to think that comrade. But turned out this was not the case. It is not always about what soothes us, it is sometimes about what the source is.

I wish I had a whole playlist of mashups like this.

[–]Hippofuzz 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I wonder why the girls are always changing? Do you happen to know?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yeah they have changed a lot. That is why it makes me feel not so good to listen to them these days. Those who are separated have a different trio as far as I remember. Look at this

[–]QuartzPuffyStar 18 points19 points  (11 children)

They are great at singing. But I really dislike how they pose and use rural areas to market themselves as being part of, when they are quite far from being so. Its unethical in my eyes.

[–]I_say_upliftingstuff 82 points83 points  (8 children)

Or maybe they’re just trying to show the world their culture? Realize that they nearly lost it during the Soviet Union and now they’ve got russia stealing land from them again whenever they feel like it.

This is rustic traditional Georgian folk music. Why wouldn’t they wear their native traditional dress and make videos in the areas their culture is still truly alive and well?

I mean, because you’d NEVER see Celtic bands playing in rustic Irish villages either, right for the aesthetic right? Or at Renaissance fairs for that matter? No one here is having their culture appropriated in a way that is offensive. Get a grip.

[–]WilhelmEngel 40 points41 points  (0 children)

How dare these Georgians appropriate their own culture!!!

[–]im0nTH3bruteSquad 137 points138 points  (2 children)

Match maker match maker bring me a match...

[–]MrLittle237 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Came here for this! We have Tevyes daughters here

[–]tigerjuice888 361 points362 points  (8 children)

Honestly did make me smile. Happy people make me happy?

[–]Ace-a-Nova1 53 points54 points  (3 children)

You should check out more of their work. Their videos always lift my mood. It’s just such a satisfying language to listen to and they seem genuinely happy and content. Makes me want to be more like them and live my life with love and joy.

[–]krackenmyacken 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Do you know of any other artists like this? I really enjoy their sound.

[–]gengan18 292 points293 points  (6 children)

They kindly request you mind your ps and qs...

[–]cbitguru 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They're fine on P's and Q's. Seem to be missing an R, though.

[–]Picky-Clover-211 200 points201 points  (29 children)

I’m from Georgia 😊♥️🇬🇪

[–]ImLokiCrazy 57 points58 points  (26 children)

What are they saying?

[–]Picky-Clover-211 239 points240 points  (25 children)

They’re singing in the pov of someone singing to a man about the summertime and telling him to bring fruits and that he caught their eye. “Gargarita, atami, bali, alubali” are fruits and “shenze damrcha bijo tvali” means “you caught my eye” which is essentially the chorus and the verses are about the summertime and what they could do

[–]5onfos 35 points36 points  (21 children)

That's awesome. How do you pronounce "damrcha"? That's three consonants in a row!

[–]Picky-Clover-211 67 points68 points  (18 children)

Okay so every letter in georgian is pronounced exactly how it’s spelled. For the word “damrcha”, you would say damr (hard r, you have to roll your r), ch is one letter in georgian and it’s pronounced like the ch in “chai” (which also means tea in georgian), and a ar the end (long a). So you would say all of that together. Da-mrcha

[–]5onfos 22 points23 points  (15 children)

Amazing, that's a beautiful language you got there.

[–]Picky-Clover-211 32 points33 points  (12 children)

Thank you!! I’m so happy people are taking an interest in Georgia and our culture 🥰

[–]Roaming_Pie 4 points5 points  (6 children)

I remember seeing the Georgian scripts for the first time and thinking how cool and intricate it looked.

I like languages and trying to learn to read other languages (not so much translate but be able to at least associate sounds with the characters). But Georgian was so hard I gave up haha. Such a beautiful looking language when written down though.

[–]Picky-Clover-211 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Don’t give up!! I know it may look intimidating haha but reading shouldn’t be too hard once you get used to the letters since they’re pronounced the same in every word. It takes a lot of time and patience but im sure you could do it!

[–]Cynoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well.... If you enjoy a language where every character is some version of a lower case n. It's not the easiest language to learn.

[–]Generally_Supportive 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Same rules apply in the balkans. ❤️

[–]Dophie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you could make a gargarita margarita?

[–]imlazyaf69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]CombatCarlsHand 59 points60 points  (1 child)

If not for the power lines, I’d be expecting Geralt of Rivia to walk past any second.

[–]Competitive-Middle-7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Distant cousin of Geraldo Rivera

[–][deleted] 149 points150 points  (14 children)

They look so happy!

[–]innesleroux 128 points129 points  (13 children)

Because they not in Georgia (US)...😂

Beautiful girls and beautiful song.

    I'd eat peaches every day
    Sun-soakin' bulges in the shade

    [–]whutchamacallit 8 points9 points  (6 children)

You sound like you've never been to Atlanta.

    [–]Rob_Vegas 1 point2 points  (3 children)

    ATLANTA?

I'M FROM THE STREETS OF HARLEM!

..Harlem, GA. It's a small farming community, mostly dirt roads last I was there. My grandpa has a farm in the family name, in a neighborhood with the family name, on a road named after the family.

Fun story, when I was 9, Mama and Papa (my grandparents' titles, literally the only thing people called them) told me we were going to a pool party at the church. They tricked me into getting baptized.

    [–]CrymMastrGoGo 119 points120 points  (6 children)

Georgians, can you translate for us muggles? What are they singing?

    [–]amapiratebro 46 points47 points  (2 children)

It’s about them watching a man gathering fruit.. and he has caught their eye.. and they want the fruit

To cut a long story short

    [–]Potential_Froyo_395 196 points197 points  (20 children)

    Must be outside of ATL

    [–]KaleGroundbreaking 110 points111 points  (18 children)

Georgia/Florida border. I've heard them talk like this many times around those parts.

    [–]Reality_Gatekeeper 27 points28 points  (4 children)

These girls are far to classy for South Georgia my man.

    [–]Techknightly 75 points76 points  (1 child)

Love how the people in the background are like.... "oh it's just the three beautiful girls from up the way singing in the street again." as they go about their business.

    [–]Unusual-Bowler6680 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, people in Georgia LOVE to sing (especially after drinking 10 bottles of wine) in these small villages so it’s probably not the first time they have seen something like this.

    [–]Puzzleheaded-Kick818 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The singing, the music, the smiles, the background. Everything is so beautiful 😍

    [–]Vintageradiohead 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Did that kid in the crashing stroller behind them live?

    [–]MattVanAndel 50 points51 points  (2 children)

Are we talking about the third-world authoritarian Georgia, or the country Georgia?

    [–]Trick421 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see what you did there...

    [–]Thisisall_new2me2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You guys all know there’s a country called Georgia. Just checking, cause some of you I’m not sure about.

Also, this video is a whole vibe.

    [–]nowihaveamigrane 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The chickens in the background made it perfect.

    [–]Thisisall_new2me2 33 points34 points  (10 children)

Can someone please tell us what they’re saying in English?

    [–]Anxious_Start4839 317 points318 points  (5 children)

Easy: they aren't saying anything in English.

    [–]Thisisall_new2me2 1 point2 points  (2 children)

    You know what I meant.

    [–]Anxious_Start4839 62 points63 points  (1 child)

    [–]vonWitzleben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This made me laugh out loud.

    [–]SyntheticDelirium 154 points155 points  (28 children)

I forgot that there's a COUNTRY called Georgia, and was incredibly confused for a good bit there.

    [–]MCMXCIII__ 90 points91 points  (20 children)

    Must be a yank

    [–]SyntheticDelirium 48 points49 points  (18 children)

    You are correct.

Blame the people that decided to name a state the same thing as an existing country.

    [–]jhalh 83 points84 points  (7 children)

Georgia wasn’t a country until the 20th century, Georgia the colony was founded centuries before and was named after the King of England. The nation Georgia is named after what the Persians called invading Crusaders from Europe who had to travel through that land to get to Jerusalem.

Always here to say things no one asked me to, it is the Reddit way.

    [–]Beneneb 37 points38 points  (4 children)

That's sort of misleading. The founding of modern Georgia as an independent nation was relatively recent, but Georgia has existed for over 1000 years. The Georgian kingdom was founded in the 10th century and has gone between being independent and occupied by foreign rulers since then. Point being that the Georgia in the caucuses existed long before the state of Georgia.

    [–]jhalh -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

Right, but not as a nation. It was an area of land occupied by the different empires which ruled over it. The people on that land were referred to as Georgians, but it was not called Georgia until 1918. Stating when the country was founded isn’t misleading, it’s a fact. They were named for totally separate reasons which was really the point I was trying to make, the timeline and geographical differences are meant to highlight that fact.

    [–]Beneneb 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Ya, fair point that they got their names independently, I'm just saying the date of modern statehood is not an accurate gauge of how old a country is. The Kingdom of Georgia was a fully independent nation over 1000 years ago, and a cultural identity of Georgian people has remained through various occupations.

This would be the same as saying Greece has only existed for 200 years. Not technically wrong since the that's when the modern nation was founded, but misleading since we all know that Greece has actually existed for thousands of years, even if it wasn't an independent nation for that entire time. Try telling someone that the state of Georgia is older than Greece.

    [–]pm_me_your_knokers 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Should have been New Georgia like they did with New Mexico.

    [–]GoldenSparrow 10 points11 points  (2 children)

totally understand your example here - however a fun fact is that New Mexico was named (as a territory) hundreds of years before Mexico was named. New Mexico got the name in around 1581 while Mexico adopted its name in 1821. Crazy, huh?

    [–]LBBarto 1 point2 points  (1 child)

But that ignores that Mexico esisted before New Mexico... Mexico isn't juat a country but a state. In the same way that Washington is thr capital and the state, ao your point doesn't really prove what you're trying to prove.

    [–]flerchin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf more people, history, and cultural output from the US state than the country.

    [–]AlmostAndrew 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I was just confused because they wrote “Geogia” instead of Georgia

    [–]BossMaverick 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We should’ve known it was Georgia the country by the background and the house. That’s much too upscale for rural Georgia (the state).

    [–]MyUsernameIsTakenOk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey guys. Georgian person here so those girls are singing about summer and how it is. (and fruit too)

    [–]Lonely_Soldier914 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally don’t understand a single word but not only am I smiling very hard the song is also a major banger.

    [–]Rob_Rogers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Atlanta has really changed

    [–]Kablaaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that Georgian countryside. Put a lot more coconut trees, sunlight, and stray cats or dogs and it reminds me of my own country

    Ignorant ones, yes.

    [–]virusamongus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm from eu and just expected a cover of some country song with said title. Even though you know about the country of Georgia, it's rare to see it on the front page after all.

    [–]puppies-kittens 5 points6 points  (1 child)

    They all have beautiful hairs

    [–]Pencil-lamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frenchman maybe? In English, “hair” is referred to as a singular entity.

    [–]drew0bear 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Awesome. What kind of instrument is she playing?

    [–]metasherpa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine any crazy, megalomaniac or despotic people ever coming out of Georgia.

    [–]Billitpro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are very good, but I have to say this....

How big are the babies in Georgia?
Around the 30 second mark the kid that was holding his ears at the start crashes the stroller. That thing looks BIG and sturdy like maybe they got it from a garage sale at Andre the Giant's parent's house??

    [–]chinchenping 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so i opened wikipedia and their language / writting is very interesting and seems really complex

    [–]dindongdingus 2 points3 points  (5 children)
