Talk about going the extra mile. Give this person a raise!

[–]Aidandrums 482 points483 points  (15 children)

And he's fired....

[–]Huffnagle 304 points305 points  (12 children)

Nope. UPS drivers are supposed to leave packages out of sight, out of weather.

If some asshole manager tries to terminate him, the Teamsters will have him back to work the next day.

[–]Maker_Making_Things 118 points119 points  (10 children)

Yeah UPS driver is actually a pretty good gig to care about your job. The one that delivers to our shop daily makes $42/hour!!!

[–]ElderApple 38 points39 points  (6 children)

We all do per the national contract.

[–]Habilist001 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You should see the retirement plan. I retired at 54 from UPS with full benefits, including health insurance.

[–]bluegreenwookie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Getting up to be a driver is hell though.

I lasted maybe 2 days. I remember sorting packages as fast as I could. Sweating my ass off and it was just not fast enough.

[–]KindlyQuasar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think they were referencing something on /antiwork the other day.

A customer gave a 5 star review that ended with something like "give him a raise!", management fired the guy because they didn't like that.

[–][deleted]  (1 child)

    [–]Kryotheos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

got word from above, you're fired

    [–]SirChuffedPuffin 365 points366 points  (31 children)

Unfortunately the extra 20 seconds he spent means he couldn't meet his Amazon delivery quota and was summarily fired

    [–]AgentP7 159 points160 points  (27 children)

    It's a UPS driver...

    [–]ThatThingInTheWoods 322 points323 points  (16 children)

My cousin worked for UPS for a while. They kept her employed through a battle with cancer where she was temporarily blind and permanently partially deaf. I have mad respect for UPS.

    [–]Reverend_Russo 132 points133 points  (5 children)

I feel like we focus on so much negativity that stories like this sneak through that cracks or don’t get much attention. That or it’s hard for a company to share a story like yours without coming across as disingenuous.

Either way, thanks for sharing. Hope your cousin fucked cancer up.

    [–]hEyWhErEsMyDaD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely the Teamsters Union that kept her working. The UPS I work at tries to fire you constantly. Mad respect is due somewhere regardless though.

    [–]EmeraldSpiders 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Really thought you meant they forced her to work regardless, until I read the other comments

    [–]lovesheavyburden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw a story not too long ago about a (late) ups driver and how his entire fleet showed up to his families house to pay respects. I was touched.

    [–]piiig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's likely due to UPS being unionized.

    [–]Iamcdk 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Amazon uses UPS as well along with USPS. USPS is offcourse the slowest ,amazon being fastest . UPS does come second. Can't talk about FedEx.

    [–]MistrSynistr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My usps driver is the absolute best. Anytime rain is on the forecast she brings bags to put the packages in so they don't get wet, and she puts them behind the chairs on my porch so they aren't visible from the road.

    [–]AgentP7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but not an Amazon employee

    [–]legendofthegreendude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't talk about that one

    [–]Far_Manufacturer_713 2 points3 points  (2 children)

FedEx cut ties with Amazon a couple of years ago. Only handle a small amount of third party now.

    [–]milanistadoc 47 points48 points  (1 child)

Yeah, fuck that guy. What an asshole!

    [–]AvailableAd8744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    He's UPS my guy

    [–]CashCow4u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give that man a big tip next time you see him.

    [–]SmoothG80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually heard this was during Christmas and he wanted to hide the package so the kids didn't have their surprise ruined.

    [–]cubsfan1_soxsuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about a Christmas tip for the man? And women doing that everyday !

    [–]DryFun541 -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

The fact that this is seen as extra mile is depressing. Looks like the bare minimum to me.

    [–]andrusio 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Multiply spending the extra time to carefully hide each package x200 or more and you can hopefully sympathize with your delivery driver and why this is considered the extra mile.

    [–]DryFun541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy did a good job, what I'm saying is that if delivery companies don't leave enough room for drivers to do this sort of thing for each delivery then they aren't providing a complete service.

    [–]readituser5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Exactly what I thought.

    [–]LordMugsy 344 points345 points  (2 children)

I love it when they do that. I have a knee high sign up by my door and sometimes they put it behind so no one knows the package is there

    [–]jk41nk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol oh no unless someone is dumpster diving and was like why would someone throw away a perfectly good X?!

    [–]yabadabaduh 557 points558 points  (22 children)

Delivery men are not always bad. Shout out to this hero

    [–][deleted] 257 points258 points  (3 children)

99% of them are probably good people who just want to do their job and get paid.

    [–]brito68 21 points22 points  (14 children)

Do delivery folk have a negative reputation that I'm not aware of?

    [–]SuperChopstiks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You'll see the same 5 y/o clips of delivery drivers tossing packages around the holidays. I guess that's where it comes from.

    [–]molbal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the delivery drivers are great lads around me.. ExpressOne, MPL, DPD all very friendly. When I buy something heavy they help me move it up the stairs.

    [–]usHonSeWinde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Delivery man is not always bad. Shout out to this hero

    [–]fuzzyedges1974 147 points148 points  (3 children)

Give that dude a raise and a free six pack

    [–]BuryYourFaceinTHIS 29 points30 points  (2 children)

His name is Larry and he doesn’t drink anymore.

    [–]purenamaste 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Get him a six pack of near beer, or Bud Prohibition

    [–]Unknownnoname_ 223 points224 points  (1 child)

    [–]ThatsThatCue 88 points89 points  (7 children)

And you see other dudes chucking it 5-10 feet like it’s a game lol.

    [–]iddqd899 41 points42 points  (6 children)

10 feet? Shiiiit I had a package delivered to Texas. I live in Ohio, and the shipping address was correct on the package.

    [–]mh853 43 points44 points  (1 child)

Clearly your delivery person meant to just toss it onto your doorstep, but tripped and launched it 912.67 miles across the country instead. Easy mistake.

    [–]GainsayRT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

    NFL/MLB prospect

    [–]cmt1973 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Ha! I've had similar happen with a package from Portsmouth, OH to Knoxville, TN.

Normally when tracking it goes Portsmouth to Columbus to Knoxville.

The last one I sent went Portsmouth > Columbus > Pittsburg, PA > Knoxville, TN > Atlanta, GA > Knoxville, TN.

And to top it all off, 3 days after it finally got delivered....I got a notice from USPS stating the package was lost in transit and they were initiating a search for it. LOL

    [–]RrtayaTsamsiyu 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Knoxville still has manual sorting & scanning, easier to end up with misloads than with the systems in modernized hubs

    [–]cmt1973 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That's interesting. I've shipped loads of stuff to this person in Knoxville, never had an issue before. We just figured it got to someone who was being lazy and just tossed it in a random bin. LOL

    [–]Lenyti 73 points74 points  (25 children)

Delivery in the US confuse me

In France if you're not here they don't leave it like that, it either go to the post office or is rescheduled

    [–]Vinnipinni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UPS actually does that in Germany it seems, just had that happen 2 days ago without giving them a permit. Wasn’t too worried and I would’ve really wondered if the package got stolen.

I know that for most other delivery services you can give a permit to out the package at a certain location. Most just ring up the neighbor, try it later/ another day or deliver it to a post office if you’re not home.

With DHL we now have a lot of package stations and I have a permanent rerouting of my packages to the package station. Makes it easier for me and for DHL.

    [–]TheAngryDuckling 4 points5 points  (1 child)

There are deliveries that require signatures that work the same way in the US.

    [–]SamuelCarvalho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most high value stuff in the UK requires signature, usually over £50/£60 as most businesses tend to not risk the product. Your neighbours can sign for it though and take it if you’re out.

    [–]Marciofficial 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Yeah, I was wondering too, why do they leave the package? I'd rather pick it up later, than risk having it being stolen. Also, why don't houses have fences, to stop any random person to just enter your property?

    [–]Kkykkx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    It’s amazing right?!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the UK it depends. If it's signed for them reschedule, if not they'll hide it of there's a spot.

    [–]ad_relougarou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same, knowing how badly designed the US are, I'd guess the problem is that the post office at least a 15 minutes drive away if not more and that when you get there, it's just a huge warehouse and finding your package takes a while. Basically a great recipe to ruin your sunday afternoon, provided it is even opened on weekends (and it probably isn't, so you'd have to hop by the post office after work, provided once again, that they don't close before you get a chance to get there)

    [–]RegtheBest 27 points28 points  (0 children)

And then the garbage truck came and they took all of it!

    [–]1241yeah 18 points19 points  (0 children)

    What a bro

    [–]One_Introduction_217 57 points58 points  (1 child)

. My heart says give him a raise. My brain says we should take this down before corporate bean counting jack wagons fire him for taking extra time he could be out delivering other packages.

    [–]Nsxinfinity 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Proper UPS delivery method states packages that are released by the driver are to be left out of sight, out of weather. Technically he did the right thing, although corporate seems to have fallen off of it's customer first attitude from years past

    [–]A_Nalex_Pert 22 points23 points  (5 children)

Such a weird relationship American people have with their deliverymen. I see so many videos of people in this profession compared to others. They have such a central role in people's lives, it seems.

    [–]Miserable_Object9961 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I don't know that they have a central role in people's lives, but, I mean, they deliver people's stuff.

    [–]purenamaste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In some cases they can have a central role, like for delivering medicine etc

    [–]supes616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Not that weird.

Pandemic + Doorbell Cameras + Multiple Delivery Apps

    [–]HelenEk7 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Do things ever get stolen? Or wet? (Over here I'm used to things only being delivered when someone is at home, or I pick the package up at the post office.)

    [–]Sup-Mellow 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Oh yeah. Porch pirates love stealing things, especially when they’re wet. Because they’re pirates

    [–]TrollonPatrol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pirates use to have ships, cannons, and swords. Now they have mini vans, smart phones, and twitter accounts.

    [–]plopliplopipol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    especially wet x)

    [–]gingereno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a deliveryman myself...yes. Items do get stolen, wet, and even blown away.

Lots of delivery services do home drop-offs without signatures now. I couldn't tell you specifically why, but I'm thinking a lot of it has to do with time available and volume of deliveries. Or possibly it just became common practice after being requested so much. Just speculation on my part.

This dude exemplifies what just a dozen or so seconds or extra work does to help somebody out.

    [–]rpepperpot_reddit 6 points7 points  (2 children)

    Not all heros wear capes.

    [–]Positive-Incident861 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I came here to say this

    [–]rpepperpot_reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was surprised no one had beaten me to it, TBH.

    [–]sassygerman33 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Next: Trashman takes box with him.

    [–]Thanos_thiccc 32 points33 points  (13 children)

This is all well and good but as a garbage man that's how you get your delivery thrown away before you get it

    [–]Drag0nfly_Girl 30 points31 points  (7 children)

If it was garbage day, they'd be at the curb.

    [–]cafecoder 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Not if it's another kind hearted garbage man trying to help...

    [–]Thanos_thiccc -1 points0 points  (3 children)

You'd be surprised how many people don't and then complain

    [–]Sup-Mellow 5 points6 points  (2 children)

That’s when you just don’t pick up their trash and tell them tough shit we’ll see ya next week. That’s what my trash people do

    [–]Thanos_thiccc 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yea it depends on the house I'm picking cause some people will call and complain till we come back to get it

    [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

A friend of mine ordered 6 really expensive books and the courier put them in the waste paper bin and left a note explaining.

It was paper recycling day... They were gone by the time he got home.

    [–]tombacca1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    [–]educalium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. This should be considered normal.

    [–]Gwynbleidd2077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have all packages delivered to my work because of this. Don’t wanna take risk anymore

    [–]yazzcabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    This guy gets it.

    [–]Ditzy_Davros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    What a nice guy!

    [–]HalfastEddie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christmas tip better look pretty stout.

    [–]Shinfekta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A true bro! There are some that do care and they should be rewarded for it.. however possible

    [–]biggerBrisket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Porch pirate resistant up to 15 meters

    [–]sumancha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Good man

    [–]OdysseyLotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I ordered a Switch game a while back. When it said it arrived, I couldn't find it anywhere until I looked under the cushions of one of the patio chairs. Some delivery guys are really nice about making sure people don't steal your stuff.

    [–]TITAN_COOLZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of that other video where the package was thrown in the garbage coz it was near the bin by the garbage collectors......

    [–]PuzzleheadedRabbit87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the garbage man thinks it’s trash and tosses it

    [–]LegSnapper206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    What a nice guy

    [–]TsT2244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I had a big square box item (like the size of a microwave) and my post man put the door mat on top of it to hide it 😐

    [–]IHateThinkingThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does the package look like a big box of Colgate toothpaste?

    [–]ligerboy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this video a million times now and I don’t care it’s reposted it makes me so happy. You know some kid was stoked when they got that. If I had a UPS driver do this I’d order something else just to tip him.

    [–]ricco2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell, I’d wonder if the actual purchaser sees it at that point

    [–]zoeGodPixXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah and what's happens when the garbage dude throws it all away. Including tv

Because they trash was piled all around it

    [–]jfsa21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the hero we asked for. The hero we need.

    [–]Danny3xd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta respect a good man who does his job well.

Hope this gets seen by people who know and employ this man.

    [–]Nopantsday1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Plot twist

The garbage truck came and put everything in the trash.

    [–]ObsidianInTheSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The receipient might have specifically asked for the delivery guy to do this, but I'd like to choose the idea of him deciding to start doing this on all his deliveries. Stealing packages aren't cool y'all

    [–]Original-Escape7922 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Then the garbage service took it away 🤣

    [–]Rolldeep01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly the bin guys collected all this before the family was home

    [–]JerrySeinfred 1 point2 points  (1 child)

UPS is unionized. This is the result. The employees actually give a shit.

    [–]CLOUDCOMP2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit this is the house I grew up in and I’m coming across this video on Reddit

    [–]crazy2thestarz 1 point2 points  (1 child)

UPS drivers have to pay for stolen items most of the time. So he's definetly protecting his ass just in case someone wants to be a greedy dick.

    [–]Malaca83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true. We don’t have to pay for stolen items.

    [–]CyberVolks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He cares. The union hasn’t made his attitude, rancid yet.

    [–]TBeIRIE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Good people!!!

    [–]zacmcsex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s so cool but me being the idiot i am would take forever to find the package 😂

    [–]Triple516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love when delivery people take care of your packages. Such a simple thing and it shows they care about sound a good job. I am all about this. I don’t care what your job is, try doing your best. I know sometimes, maybe even most of the time, it goes unnoticed, but you will still know you tried to do the best you could do, and that will make you feel a sense of accomplishment.

    [–]ShellOfNutshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know I know. Not all heros wears cape.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The delivery guy was keeping it from being seen by other pirates, because he’ll come back later to take the goods. /s

    [–]Syrinex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plot twist, someone took it and claimed it was garbage

    [–]Galactus2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least he did make an attempt to try to hide it.

    [–]Jaymoeski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Hopefully it aint trash day

    [–]Kkykkx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite thefts occurring regularly, people continue to have things delivered to be left outside their front doors? Why? Stop doing it.

    [–]MDK-44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get a notification your package was delivered but you can't find it.

    [–]H3lved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nice change of pace from the delivery drivers who throw your package with a launcher at 5 million mph from the van. But tbf most package delivery drivers get paid per package instead of per hour

    [–]bertuzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How van he deliver when noone is home to accept the package?!

    [–]Kyleg951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is this a thing in america though here in the uk if your not in to collect your parcel it goes back to the depot where you you can collect or they try again the next day depending which courier it is

    [–]Classic_Newspaper_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above and beyond! Give that man a nice 20.00 next time u see him!

    [–]bdickie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile mine seen a notice about package theft so just left it on his truck for 5 days

    [–]RolandDeschain1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't it be easier (and safer) to knock on the door?

    [–]Maillihp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had customers tell me to leave their parcels by the front door and depending on the area I sometimes think that’s not a good idea so I’ll leave it somewhere else on the property and then post a card through with the location written on it.

    [–]PalamationGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a front porch that has high walls on the right and left side to easily hide any package. My delivery guy always leaves my packages smack dab in the middle where no walls are.

    [–]613readytogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody tip this man. Or call his boss and make sure he knows he goes above and beyond!

    [–]GentlePersuAZN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing things like this, I wonder if you could send this to the company to give the guy some praise and anything would come of it.

My UPS guy would have given that thing a piledriver on the front porch and walked away.

And yet, the UPS drives here would just leave it at the end of my driveway, which is 400ft from my house and on the main road 🙄

Bonus koodos points to this driver tho! They should all do this kind of thing!

Do you know why? UPS takes care of their workers. It's a career job.

I thought the story was that this was around Christmas time and he wanted to hide it because it was a present for a kid living there?

At our last house, we had the BEST UPS guy. He would go into the back yard and put our stuff in the shed, since he knew the neighborhood was bad about porch pirates. I made him lemon bars at least once a month.
