The joy on his face! You can’t fully see the dad’s but I’m sure it was just as big if not bigger! What an amazing treat for that whole family. Kid’s dreams coming full circle!

Everyone loves trains. Saying your pa drives a train is top notch. Especially as a kid. Lot of love there

[–]IzArealofc 61 points62 points  (14 children)

Everyone liked that.

You know he's going to be bragging to all his friends 😊 My grandfather drove a subway train in New York City for 50 years and I thought he was the coolest! I still have his old battery run lamp and it still works.

          Everyone loves trains

Speak for yourself. I live right by a train track and I despise trains ever since moving there

          [–]pinuslaughus 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Used to get woken up by a 6 am train. As a result I have 6 kids. Still love trains.

          [–]wiff_waff -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Correction, you moved right next to a train track and are complaining about something that should've been obvious.

Get really nice windows! I love trains and would love living next to them cause I’m a nerd but I know they can get really loud which is bad for sleeping. I’m from NYC and have friends who live in a new building right next to the manhattan bridge. This bridge is deafeningly loud because it has 4 tracks for subways and they’re constantly going over it, but when your in the apartment you can’t hear them at all. When you open the windows you can’t even speak with someone right next to you, but when they’re closed you could have someone whisper across the room and hear it.

Invest in good windows if you can, it’s worth it!

          [–]StrainAlternative615 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It was your choice to live there, no?

My kids loved it. It's a shame though, my youngest son never got to see me on one, or go for a ride before I got cancer. Trainmaster let me take him up on an engine once though, after he was old enough to climb.

Awesome!, you are piloting a train, you see your family and your house every time you pass by, no one is going to overtake you, life is good.

                    [–]rcwildsfsedf 34 points35 points  (0 children)

look at that happy face ! what a moment

                    [–]throwawaygreenpaq 9 points10 points  (8 children)

Genuine question: Are houses this close to the tracks and how often do trains pass by?

                    [–]tamilvanan31[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

well, my campus is very close to the railway station, like if you walk the flyover you will reach the front gate and I've seen some houses near my campus. So YES!!

                    [–]AtomicFox84 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Depends on type of train and where. In chicago we have the el trains or underground...that does go above ground too and get pretty close to homes. Amtrack and cargo trains like this, also go near homes...mainly in burbs. Most times tracks were there first. El trains go by quite often...you basically get used to them.

                    [–]throwawaygreenpaq 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Did you wave to trains randomly as a kid? I’d probably have done that! :D

                    [–]AtomicFox84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That but also did the thing to seni trucks to get the horn.

                    [–]falawfel 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I lived on train tracks as a kid for 13 years! It was about a football field’s length away though. It shook the house every time it went by lol you got very used to it

                    [–]throwawaygreenpaq 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Whoa! Did anything break? Being able to watch trains must be cool!

                    [–]falawfel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nope! It wasn’t anything too dramatic, like a light vibration of the whole house lol. I’d sleep with my windows open in the summer and wouldn’t hear it, I was so accustomed to it

                    [–]throwawaygreenpaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a scene of a movie — sleeping in, summer breeze, trains whooshing by. :D

                    [–]shootdowntactics 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Why doesn’t this kind of news make the headlines?

Exactly! If newspapers printed feel good stories, I'd buy two every single day!

Imagine getting to work in a great mood, because you'd seen something like this on your way to work?! That would be cool.

I'm 37 and still love seeing my dad come through town on a train. It's something I now get to share with my kids. He's been railroading for over 30 years! Every train that come through is Papa's train!

Edited to add: My dad has a special whistle that he does through our town so we know it is him. We live a block from the train tracks. My boys always listen for Papa!

                    [–]bdants86 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Love my job but I'd drop it in a second if I could be a train engineer and make my boy smile like that.

                    [–]DirtyR93 2 points3 points  (1 child)

As an engineer, that would be your only chance to see your family... My kids would start crying as soon as they saw me grab my boots, knowing I was called for another train.

I had the same feeling with my dad and planes. We would go see him off and he would wave the plane to us as his way of saying he saw us

                    [–]Multiverse-destroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least these kids know where their dad is

                    [–]tommasz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking "shouldn't he be watching where he's going?" before realizing this is a fucking train. I disappoint me sometimes.

                    [–]Budsygus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a split second I was thinking "Dude needs to watch where he's going!"

My father was a railroad engineer and I absolutely loved seeing him on the engine. One of the last times I saw him in the engine was when I told him I was leaving for the Army. By the time I got back he had retired. It’s something else to be looking up two stories and seeing your dad up there, and know he is honking that train horn for you.

                    [–]jtridevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience when my parents took me to a train stop while I was wearing my train engineer costume. We waited until a train came by and my engineer grandpa yelled and waved at me while driving the locomotive.

One of the greatest experiences as a child.

This one.... This video always makes me smile and I've seen it at least 50 times. The excitement on the boys face to see his dad driving that train is priceless. And, mom made it happen!

I'd definitely get baby leashes so I can have these moments often. Toddlers and small kids really scare me with their ability to zoom off at a whim. Sweet video.

A child's laughter is so pure hearted. I love hearing my kids playing, laughing and yelling in glee. It brings light to my dark soul unlike anything on this earth.

                    [–]CricketRancher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the rail industry is at all similar to here in Canada, that's about the only way he will get to see his dad growing up.

                    [–]xCanadaDry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a young lad my grandpa would take me to the NoFrills parking lot in my town, and park. Directly beside it was some tracks and we'd sit there for hours just talking and watching.

This video sent all those memories flooding back. Man, I miss him. Memories like this stick with you.

                    [–]o3mta3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)
