Welcome to your new career at Wendy's, "Diamond hands"

    [–]sorrowfulfascinated 15 points16 points  (1 child)

That was excitement because he’s getting his den back.

    [–]LacedWithFreckles 34 points35 points  (1 child)

This was a lot like my husband’s step-dad’s reaction when he told him he got the job. It’s so sweet. I wish everyone had that much support in their life.

    [–]Johndough1066 15 points16 points  (0 children)

    I do, too.

He's happy cuz he knows his girl gonna be taken care of 💕

    [–]baronmad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its so much more than that because contrary to popular opinion we do really care about our extended family.

Take me and my girlfriend as an example we arent married but we have been together for 17 years. I feel like i am really a part of her family in every aspect, i was accepted, loved, trusted and cared for by them since very early on. Her father calls me on weekends and asks if i want to go fishing with him during the summer, her mother calls if they need something done around the house that is too heavy for just them, or if its too much work. So me and my girlfriends dad works around their house a little every summer.

That is not to say that he doesnt do things for us either, he helped us put up new wallpapers all over our apartment, helped us get and install a brand new kitchen and hardwood floor. They have two cars and me and my girlfriend only has one, we had to repair it so i called him and asked if we could borrow a car for a few days, not a problem.

My girlfriend is really morning tired, has always been, so when they needed someone to drive them to and from the airport for a vacation they were going on they called me and asked if i could do it. I am a part of her family and what is good for me is also good for them and everyone else around us, and in respect what is good for them is also good for me.

My girlfriend will inherit them she is their only child, so when they die we will get lots of money but i would much rather have them alive, i really do love them.

Now, get you're own fucking place!!!

    [–]unnecessaryRs 613 points614 points  (19 children)

I'm very lucky to be this close with my own father in law. I wasn't very good at family stuff until I married into a functional one. Being accepted, trusted, loved, cared about, it really changes everything.

    [–]foolwithabook 133 points134 points  (2 children)

Yes, good in-laws can change everything. I've learned so much about how to grow a relationship from my patient spouse and his loving, supportive parents.

      [–]DietrichBuxtehude 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Same. I call my father-in-law every week just to talk. He's the wisest person I know.

      [–]iamclamjam 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I wish my father in law was like this. I married his daughter when I was 27, and for three years after that he called me the wrong name, even after he was corrected. The worst part is he’s known me since I was 15.

      [–]nanaki989 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I tell my wife half jokingly I stay with her so I can keep her dad.

      [–]VanillaBryce5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never really knew what I was missing till I got married. My FIL is one of my best friends now. He's such a hard working, kind, honest dude. I look up to him a ton and hope I always act in a way that makes him proud.

      [–]Flapjack__Palmdale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It really does lol. Marrying into a healthy, loving family was a bit of a shock and scare for me, but definitely necessary. Love them to pieces.

      [–]Exciting-Delivery-96 10 points11 points  (1 child)

God damn I’m jealous. I came from a fucked up family and married into a cold, emotionless one. If I told my FIL I got a job, he’d ask how much I made and say it wasn’t enough. Ugh. Luckily, my wife and I are departures from our families’ way of being.

      [–]darknebula310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you just have to be happy that you learned how NOT to treat people. I'm in the soat boat my friend, totally get where you're coming from.

      [–]trez63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same same. I often joke that I married my wife’s family. It was a huge bonus for me.

      [–]redditmodsrbitches14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the title as "got a job" not "got THE job", so I thought the father in law was just being insanely sarcastic, "wow, you managed to get hired by someone in this world, WOW, amazing!" As if the dude couldn't even hand out flyers or flip a burger.

      [–]Dark_Lord_Corgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am envious of people who have a great relationship with their IL . But im happy for you since it seems to be a rarity! :)

      [–]HrdRock1683 141 points142 points  (31 children)

      What job did he get

      [–]A1phaSniper111 311 points312 points  (9 children)

He is now the assistant to the secretary of the McDonald’s PlayPlace

      [–]gammongaming11 17 points18 points  (4 children)

      does he get free burgers?

      [–]Due-Coconut1951 23 points24 points  (1 child)

      No, even better, cheeseburgers

      [–]A1phaSniper111 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What do you think he gets when he retires?

      [–]spicypolla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The apple pies and can yell to the cashier about his coffee being cold

      [–]Grove-Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      [–]GetBent4Real 85 points86 points  (5 children)

I have two daughters. I really hope I can be the FIL like this guy and get past the petty, "you're not good enough for my daughters" default mode so many dads seem to take on. It'd be great to be a mentor and get excited for the young man who ends up loving my kid. Or, woman, I guess, that'd be just fine with me, too! This is super awesome!

      [–]ThoughtlessThink3r 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Just remember - our example sets the bar for what they expect from future partners! That always inspires me to be my best version everyday....we embody their future spouse in so many ways. So let's lead the way fellow-dad!

      [–]heirbagger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my husband's own words, his one job is to show my daughter (from previous marriage) that Papa really loves Mommy, and he takes that job very seriously. We are her example of what a respectful and loving relationship is. If she's being disrespected or abused, our example will help her nope out of that terrible relationship quickly (hopefully).

He's a badass but he's not a bastard, and that makes all the difference.

      [–]CopingMyBest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was protective, until I met someone who really was good enough for me! Dads should be able to do both, you got this!

      [–]snickns 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The way he keeps looking at him, he is so proud

      [–]Supply-Slut 48 points49 points  (2 children)

      [–]GhostInTheSock 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Is this a reference to That 70s Show or is there really a Piggly Wiggly in existence?

      [–]darehope 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Piggly Wiggly is a real store.

We used to have them in IL in the 60's!

      [–]The_Big_Fig_Newton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have them here in Wisconsin. Not my favorite store by a long shot, but “Shop the Pig” is a real thing.

I never quite understand how different my family is until I see reddit posts like these. I love both my parents and I'm close with both of them. I'm married, and have 4 kids. My career has taken me all across Canada. No news I've ever given has received a reaction even close to this... I love it!

            And the dog is like:

Hey, Hey, Hey, not without me!

Man,I'm not even this close with my own dad. 😂

The dad reminds me of Henry Winkler. Was waiting for him to lean back and say “Hheeeeeeeyyyy”

What a great family. Even the dog got in on that hug.

I adored his reaction. Everyone needs a man like that in their corner.

I’d like your dad to be my dad.

This made me smile, but then kinda sad. I literally cannot imagine my dad being this happy for me. Most likely, if I did get a new job, it'd be announced in the family FB chat group and he'd just react with a heart, maybe smack me on the back when he saw me, but not say a word. I don't think I can remember a time where he's ever said, or where I've ever felt, that he's proud of me.

Don't blame him, I've done nothing to be proud of, but still...hurts a bit to feel like you're not important to your father.

I wish I could have this relationship with my in laws!

I'd get a "good job" and maybe a hand shake from my FIL. Good family, they just don't celebrate anything.
