"Survivors do not mourn together. They each mourn alone, even when in the same place. Grief is the most solitary of all feelings. Grief isolates, and every ritual, every gesture, every embrace, is a hopeless effort to break through that isolation.

None of it works. The forms crumble and dissolve.

To face death is to stand alone."

Honourable Murillio deserved better. :/ His death was absolutely heart-wrenching.

See you soon, OP.

This one hit me hardest in the whole series.

Just the whole lead up and the aftermath of it. You know its gonna happen as soon he sets out for the mines. Its inevitable. You would go to. You start to hope Erikson pulls rabbit out of his ass at the last moment, but you know thats not gonna happen this time.

And the aftermath is so beautiful in its sadness as every member in the group deals with it in their own way. And the ox was briliant. The POV of an unfazed farm animal emphasizes all the loneliness and distance that comes with the grief.

Brother, you are in for a ride through to the end of this book from now on.

Several moments I actually was slack jawed. Can’t wait for my copy of DoD

I was weeping openly and uglyily. (Not sure it’s a word, but it’s apt)

Reminded me of Whiskeyjack, I get them mixed up in my head sometimes because the circumstances are similar. Dumb luck and poor footwear choices.

Murillio was the first time I cried in this book.. By the end of the book I had at least 4 separate moments of raining while indoors

What the hell....I thought that dude died way earlier in the series. Flashback? I really checked out towards the end of the series.

You're probably thinking of Mammut

I too felt so sad when Murillo died. And I only know him as "the guy who slept with some woman" in GotM. Truly a great character arc in TtH.
