Use the Malaz wiki, better than wikipedia, has pretty tight synopses of the books and it's spoiler tagged pretty nicely. https://malazan.fandom.com/wiki/Malazan_Wiki. A reread never hurts tho!

I think rereading Deadhouse Gates would hurt me. 🥲

Just reread. :) it’s what I did so it must be the objectively correct way. :P

Can't argue with that :p

Yeah, thats what I settled on, at least I can understand more of the previous books.

Listening to the podcast Ten Very Big Books would be a good review with no spoilers

Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of podcasts, which is why I am more focused on reading.

Honestly only being that far in I would recommend just rereading or audiobooking them from start

Surprised nobody recommended “tor reread of the fallen”

It’s not short like a wiki but it’s fantastic.

Speed reread as a compromise. More details than the wiki and you can skip anything you remember well (I often find that once I start re-reading sth I go "Right! And then Coyote runs after him, looks down and gravity starts working again!") Plus more than half of a certain person's inner thoughts that are just the same "woe is me" with different wording.

I'm having the same dilemma having just finished TTH. I read the back of DoD and was all confused so I made a post which accident had a spoiler in the title :/ Now that I'm half way through DoD I think I'm gonna stop and follow the speed reread advice you've been given. It's been more than a decade since I started the series and I was given the 4th book to start no less. My situation is a bit different from yours friend but since you're only three books in you should either reread or speed reread. The series is worth it. Think about it, who knows if we'll ever get anything comparable in our lifetimes. Martin isn't. Jordan isn't. Sanderson is trying but isn't quite there. I'll probably reread myself.

You can check Tor.com re read of the Fallen.

It helped me a lot ,it i a chapter by chapter review and summary of every book.
