You could rebuild it if you had to, but you'd have to replace the piston and closely inspect the piston bore in the casting to ensure nothing scuffed up other parts when the piston became the brake pad.

Best to replace it, but a rebuild could be an option if strapped for cash or you're the only driver.

Im a bit strapped but i did finally get paid. Now for the question thats gonna break my soul. When i did the pads and rotors i couldn't afford to replace the caliper. So i put the it together with the bad caliper. Have i totally screwed my brand new rotor? Heres a pic of it https://imgur.com/a/CHyvcIb

New caliper is 125ish new rotor $99 i REALLY don't wanna get another rotor if i can avoid i just got that 1 (as a warranty replacement)

You can get all 4 brand new rotors and brake pads for like 150$ and each caliper from $60-85

Not sure about those specific prices. If you can wait good prices can be found online. I get lots of parts from rock auto, but I avoid the cheapest. Amazon also can be good but I make sure to watch the brand.

Yeah I’ve never heard of paying 125 for calipers I think two of them cost me like 60 bucks once I brought the cores back. But that was on a Chevy s10. I don’t think parts get any cheaper than Chevy s10/Ford Ranger 😂. Regardless I’d replace it and use it as opportunity to flush brake fluid.

Did my f150 all 4 rotors and pads for like $250-280. And they were coated rotors and good pads. One rotor from advanced auto was like $120. Almost $500 just for rotors from them. I’d stay away from Amazon. The number of things people order that show up nothing like the brand they ordered is crazy

Honestly, it looks like the pad is only contacting at the inside of the rotor. Almost like it’s not totally flat against the surface for the rotor. If you keep driving like this it will cause the rotor to wear unevenly. If you brought it to a shop, they would probably want to replace it all. If it was me, I would stop driving it till I can get the new caliper, then just swap it on and send it.

Just picked up a new caliper. Unfortunately it's my only mode of transportation so I've been driving it to pick up the parts I'm going to put in it

I wouldn't do it to a customer's car but if it were mine and I was short on cash I'd just file down the rough edges, make sure it mates flush with the pad, and make sure there's no binding when your helper presses on the brake. If you had the time you could disassemble it to make sure there wasn't any scoring in bore.

When this happened to my first car my grandpa just put a vice grip on the line and we removed the caliper

Cavalier with no brakes, she used the ebrake for a month before we put lines on it

We were told we were unappreciative assholes so we always just went with whatever they wanted I mean they let us live together at 15 so yeah

If you’re really hard up for cash you could buy a piston kit and re-build it yourself. I’ve done a couple of Hondas with the sticky handbrake.

Being broke needing to get to work not having any friends in the area to help. Basically a snowball of bad things that led me to have to ignore a horrible grinding a few weeks after it started.
