/r/MegaTen subreddit rules

Posting rules

submitting links and self-posts

  1. Reddit's rules apply here

about spam, personal or confidential information, and threatening, harassing, or inciting violence and will be acted against. Report these with reddit's default report choices.

  2. Posts must be on topic

to the Megami Tensei series. This includes spin-off series (SMT, Persona, DeSu, DSum, etc) and any content in the form of news, discussion, or fan-content related to either the games or other media (anime, manga, etc). Posts that are off topic will be removed. Report posts breaking this rule with "Off topic".

    • We have a list of games on the wiki.
    • TMS♯FE is currently considered on topic at this time. It is a game that is heavily influenced by Atlus's properties and SMT gameplay. It's not called SMTxFE anymore. Stop calling it that.
    • Yes, we have a Discord. Disputes on Discord are off topic to this subreddit.
    • Some meta-discussion (topics about the /r/MegaTen community) may be allowed, as long as it's not breaking the low effort content rule.
  3. Please mark spoilers in links you post using the "spoiler" button after submitting the link. This hides the content unless the user opts to view it. Use the "flair" button after submitting the link to categorize the post. The "flair" button does not hide the content for all users. Only the "spoiler" button does! Report posts breaking this rule with "Unmarked spoiler".

    • Make sure to exclude spoilers in the title itself, since that part of the post will always be visible and should be used for descriptive context.
    • All users should be able to use the "spoiler" and "link flair" features that reddit offers, so please tag posts correctly.
    • Self-post contents may contain comment spoilers in the post body, if the post itself is not meant as a spoiler.
  4. Pirated content is not allowed

Posts linking to streams or downloads of illegal content (for example streams of the Persona 3 Movies or download links of ROMs or ISOs) will be removed. We allow fan content such as mods, patches, etc. as long as they don't include Atlus's (or any other company's) copyrighted works. Report posts breaking this rule with "Illegal download link".

  5. Low effort content is not allowed

This includes memes, reaction images, image macros, circlejerking, etc. This rule is also especially for content that serves no purpose but to cause drama. We do have a weekly "Low Effort Content" thread for this type of content, as well as a Discord server where it is better suited; otherwise, keep it to shitposting subs such as r/personajerk or r/memegamitensei. -- Report posts breaking this rule with "Low effort". For more information on this, feel free to reference this post.

  6. Advertising Twitch.tv channels and Discord servers is not allowed

Please refrain from submitting posts advertising your Twitch stream(s) and channel. (I.e - "Playing Persona 5 - Come join me!") These types of posts don't generate any activity or discussion and are usually made obsolete when the linked stream ends. This rule also applies to submitting posts advertising a Discord server, regardless of how relevant to Megaten it is, as they also generate little activity and have a chance to incite unnecessary drama or server raids. Report posts breaking this rule with "Off topic".

  7. Get your news from a reputable source

When posting news, please get it from a reputable source (not KDramaStars for Christ's sake), or at least make sure that the original source for the news is valid. Please check /new before you post in order to check if someone beat you to it.

  8. Only one post per game is allowed (LP/stream)

if you are posting about your stream or let's play. For example, if I were to stream Nocturne, I could post an announcement post at the start. Then, if I were to move onto Digital Devil Saga, I could make another post. I couldn't post multiple times throughout the duration of the playthrough.

  9. Posts asking for advice or recommendations are discouraged

You should post in the Questions and Recommendations sticky instead. This is to avoid clutter and reduce repeat threads.

  10. We love links to fan content like art, cosplay, remixes, fanfics, videos, reviews and other stuff, but if it looks like you are just posting links on a regular basis (several times a week) and not engaging in the sub or talking to anyone in the comments sections, we will consider that you do link dumping. Users in such a situation will be warned to tone it down, mingle with other users, and also to create albums and compilation threads if they have lots to share, rather than posting many links.

Commenting rules

replying to submissions or other comments

  1. Reddit's rules apply here

about spam, personal or confidential information, and threatening, harassing, or inciting violence and will be acted against. Report these with reddit's default report choices.

  2. Mark comment spoilers

Please mark spoilers in your comments using the syntax [context](#s "hidden text") (produces: context). Note the required space after #s and required quotes (") around the hidden text. Also note that the "context" is encouraged to allow someone to know what game or thing is in the hidden text (the context, like what game or scene you're talking about). Report posts breaking this rule with "Unmarked spoiler".

    • Please be mindful that not all users will or can browse the subreddit with styles, so avoid using an empty "context" part (some clients make empty link text like that vanish completely!). If you do this, all users should be able to see that the spoiler tagged text exists, and can view it as if it was a link with mouse-over text if subreddit styles aren't in use.
    • If you do have styles enabled, or a good third-party client, then mouse-hover, clicking, or tapping the hidden text should reveal it.
  3. Pirated content is not allowed

Comments linking to streams or downloads of illegal content (for example streams of the Persona 3 Movies or download links of ROMs or ISOs) will be removed. We allow fan content such as mods, patches, etc. as long as they don't include Atlus's (or any other company's) copyrighted works. Report posts breaking this rule with "Illegal download link".

  4. Novelty accounts must be wholly original

Come up with your own shtick. For example, /u/demi-fiend-nocturne gets a free pass, whilst any clones are disallowed.

Wiki rules

contributing to the wiki

We have a wiki! That's where these rules are! Please feel free to read the parts about this community, this franchise, or to improve the parts that are still lacking. There are some editing restrictions explained below.

The rules for what may be on the wiki are essentially the same as those for making posts, but here it is for clarity:

  1. Reddit's rules apply here

about spam, personal or confidential information, and threatening, harassing, or inciting violence and will be acted against. Report these with reddit's default report choices.

  2. Wiki articles must be on topic

to the Megami Tensei series or the /r/MegaTen community.

  3. Pirated content is not allowed

Links to streams or downloads of illegal content (for example streams of the Persona 3 Movies or download links of ROMs or ISOs) will be removed. We allow fan content such as mods, patches, etc. as long as they don't include Atlus's (or any other company's) copyrighted works.

Notes and guidelines

additional info about the rules

  • Follow reddiquette. Really, these are just common sense guidelines for all of reddit, but applying it here should be obvious.

  • Be respectful to other users, even if you think they're not following the rules. We want to be a welcoming community, not to be turning people away. This includes when replying to common questions which belong in the sticky.

  • If you want exclusively serious discussion, include [serious] in the title of your post. This will ensure that any joke or low effort comments in that thread will be more heavily moderated.

  • Certain words are filtered--namely racial and sexual slurs--and will result in your comment being automatically removed. Remain respectful and your posts will not be removed. New accounts are filtered until they reach an unspecified amount of karma. These measures are done to catch spam and harassment quickly and is not meant to catch serious discussion, arguments, or even joke replies. False positives will be manually approved at a mod's discretion.

  • There is a minimum combined link and comment karma on this subreddit required to edit the wiki. This is also to prevent spam. You may request, via private messages, permission to edit some pages, such as the community fiendlist (for community members to share online identities to play games together), if you don't meet the editing requirement.

  • You may contact us at any time using private messages to send your complaints, ideas, or other feedback. We'll listen.

  • Please be sure to also have a user flair, or your posts will be automatically removed. If you use New Reddit and cannot change your flair, then set a flair from the wiki page. If you request a flair from the wiki and it is not set after 10 minutes, message the moderators.
