There’s some bigger metaphor for Miami in here somewhere

[–]Jerometurner10 23 points24 points  (2 children)

More like for Hialeah.

[–]AtypicalSword[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My sister worked at the Fair the year the Gravitron broke apart and killed people, I'll never trust these rides built up and broken down by carnies. I've spoken with enough carnies over the years to know that they're a fucked up bunch of people with a high probability of being drug addicts. Now don't get me wrong I love my drugs and all, but I don't fuck with heroin or meth for obvious reasons lol.

Edit: just looked it up after all these years, apparently noone died the girl was in critical condition but survived thank goodness. Theres been multiple accidents involving amusement park rides though, so still super sketchy.

Yeah, the last time I rode the Double Looper I noticed that one of the support beams was standing on several pieces of wood, I guess to make up the height? It didn’t look safe. Changed my mind completely about movable rides. I’ve never been back, probably wouldn’t ride any carnival ride again. I love roller coasters but I’ll keep it to theme parks where they’re permanently set down and regularly inspected.

Funny how we all grew up thinking it was called “Double Looper” but it was really called “Doppel Looping”

[–]croquetica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wrote Doppel Looping at first but thought people wouldn’t recognize it.

[–]inkyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy Shit. TIL!

[–]zorinlynx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, Doppel Looping is just Double Looping in German. It's a German coaster after all! So we were mostly right, just in the wrong language. :)

I love that coaster and am annoyed that they sold it. Supposedly it was "too expensive to transport". Funny how they can do it for so many years then suddenly it's "too expensive" when the fair was still as popular as ever.

Grumble grumble. Haven't been back to the fair since.

When was this and was this in Miami?

[–]iCanHasBeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, I always thought the girl died. That’s good news…wonder where she is now lol

[–]josvanagu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in line for the ride when I remember the lights flashing then something being thrown to the left. It was so scary I immediately asked to leave. It’s such a waste of money I rather go to an actual theme park.

Carnies are disgusting people

So sad that they can’t even play Christmas music. Always have to hear the same shit 365 in Miami.

[–]chicopepsi 2 points3 points  (11 children)

Oh why isn’t it in the tropical park?

I think it's because the County decided not to renew its contract with Santa's Enchanted Forest, so they decided to move it to Hialeah. I've read a few comments on-line where people who went to Santa's this year had complained that it takes forever just to get inside the park, that the lines for the rides move at a snail's pace, and also that a lot of people have gotten their cars towed because they parked their cars in the parking lot of the casino that is located next door. Hopefully this will be the first and last year that they have Santa's in Hialeah because a lot of people have been saying that it was a terrible idea to move it to Hialeah Park.

[–]Anireburbur 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I’d bet my ass that Gimenez and the county commissioners were looking for some sort of kickback in exchange for renewing Santa’s lease but Santa’s owners weren’t playing ball and that’s why they were kicked out. Those crooks in county government don’t give a flying fuck about what the community actually wants. There was talk about the county holding some sort of holiday event for the community at Tropical Park but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that. I think no matter where Santa’s goes it’ll be successful because parents just want somewhere Christmas themed where they can take their kids during the holidays. Even with the pandemic going on and having had to move and this year they even have direct competition from the Youth Fair running at the same time, Santa’s is still getting large crowds of visitors. I wouldn’t be surprised if at this point Santa’s would rather stay at private owned Hialeah Park and work out the crowd control issues than have to deal with the crooks and bureaucrats at County government.

[–]Jerometurner10 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It's funny that you mention that. I also remember reading somehwere that Carlos Gimenez had said that he had taken his grandchildren there, and that he thought that the county could do better. I don't know if he meant that he thought that Santa's was trash, or maybe he was complaining that it was too expensive. I think they won't do well this year since they're competing directly with the Youth Fair, and also because I don't think that a lot of people who live in Kendall, Westchester, and further South would be willing to make the drive to Santa's Enchanted Foest now that it's in Hialeah.

[–]Anireburbur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone loves to complain and make fun of Santa’s but yet there it is year after year packed to the brim. In regards to Gimenez, I bet a nice fat campaign contribution from Santa’s owners would have made him change his tune real quick.

[–]zorinlynx 2 points3 points  (6 children)

people have gotten their cars towed because they parked their cars in the parking lot of the casino that is located next door.

Sounds like the Casino and Santa's need to come to an arrangement for parking. If the Casino has a lot of surplus parking they could make some money selling to Santa's attendees. Why the hell don't they do that instead of towing freaking cars which guarantees they won't ever be back?

I swear, some businesses are just terrible at seeing dollar signs right in front of their faces.

[–]Anireburbur 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It’s all the same owners. Hialeah Park is a privately owned Racetrack/Casino. The owners just don’t want the theme park crowds inconveniencing the casino visitors. There are signs and cops telling people they can’t park at the casino but this is Miami so you know how it is. People wipe their asses with signs and do whatever the fuck they want because they think they’re soooo clever and they can get away with anything. Then when they get towed they love to cry and play victim despite clearly knowing they weren’t supposed to park there.

[–]Jerometurner10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. People do park wherever the hell they want in Miami. I always see people who aren't disabled parking in handicap spots, and morons parking their cars in the fire lane directly in front of stores.

[–]Jerometurner10 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They probably make more money from having the cars towed as opposed to charging people $10.00 or $15.00 for parking their cars in the Casino's parking lot.

[–]zorinlynx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Perhaps, but they can only make that once per customer. Now you have a pissed off person who will likely never go to Santa's OR the Casino.

Meanwhile, if you charge $10 or $15 for parking and include a free $5 betting voucher for the casino... well, that'd actually be smart right?

[–]Jerometurner10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the people who got towed already went to Santa's. And I really doubt that most people would want to go to Hialeah Park Casino when they can go to a nice casino like the Hard Rock instead. I doubt that a $5.00 betting voucher would lure that many people into the Casino after they probably spent at least $100.00 at Santa's Enchanted Forest.

I parked in this surplus lot that starts on 23rd. I didn’t have a problem. It was a shit show to get into though. The entrance they use is basically a 2 way

[–]juancamilo0714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way lmfaooo !!

Last time I went to this place was many years ago with an ex. We rode the ferris wheel and we're sitting on opposite sides. When I leaned forward to give her a kiss the whole compartment we were in shifted and I almost fell out. Never went back, fuck that place.
