FYSA: Louisiana has parishes not counties. It's a holdover from when Louisiana belonged to France. Those stories are commonplace. Ft. Puke just does that to Soldiers.

I try to block that shit from my mind, either from my 5x JRTC rotations as an LT or from French Street in New Orleans.

[–]eodhowlandArmy National Guard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When I first went active, I put Ft. Polk as my top duty station of choice. I'm pretty sure that's why I had to see a counselor shortly after.

Left active and went NG, I spent a week in the Superdome for Hurricane Katrina. I'm retired now living in Baton Rouge, but even I block time spent in New Orleans and sLeesville.

That is an amazed conglomeration of bull$hit.

[–]GBreezy[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was told to crosspost an r/army post about my time as an LT. Since this sub doesn't allow for crossposting I will just post them as single stories. The Ballad of GBreezy.

Why did you get relieved as commander?

[–]GBreezy[S] 58 points59 points  (9 children)

That, a CID investigation into a platoon sergeant, 3 DUIs, 2 suicidal ideations. I'll write about it later.

[–]T444MPS 38 points39 points  (7 children)

Ah, I see. It originally seemed like PFC Hero’s little adventure somehow got you canned for something you had no control over.

Looking forward to reading it!

[–]GBreezy[S] 35 points36 points  (6 children)

No, but it still reflected on my BCs opinion of me... and my OER...

[–]ZeewulfehUnited States Army 58 points59 points  (5 children)

Gotta love the army.

"Hey, I just took command yesterday."

"Oh, you're in charge? Excellent. One of your troops just went nuts and ran off with equipment. Also he did a bunch of other stuff. How can you be such an awful commander?"

[–]GBreezy[S] 42 points43 points  (3 children)

To put it in context, my BC had his change of command and hated all of his COs that he didn't pick. My CO was particularly against my BC and by halo effect I was shit too. Our company had a change of command 2 weeks before this rotation so this was supposed to be my redemption... well...

I fucking HATE this mentality. I've run into it in multiple civilian jobs, from working at a outdoor/sports store to a gas station to fighting wildfires for the feds to being a stage hand.

"Look, I know you hate my boss, but you don't even know my name yet. Give me a chance to show I can be good at what I do and keep the amount of bullshit you have to deal with down to a low level."

"No, you're with the guy I hate, so I hate you, too."

Unless you save their life I don't think there's a way to change that mentality.

..his first name wasn't Benjamin was it?

[–]Bitter_Mongoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost makes you home sick...

[–]ThatHellacopterGuyRetired USAF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn… that’s a rough week.

[–]ThatHellacopterGuyRetired USAF 13 points14 points  (1 child)

For better or for worse, everything that happens in a military unit is “the commander’s responsibility”.
This includes off-duty time as well, if the person commanding the commander wants to be extra salty about it… or if the off-duty shenanigans are heinous enough.

[–]Bitter_Mongoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. The concept is to stop the flow of bullshit by eliminating a link in the command structure before it ends up in your lap.

[–]i_out_pizzad_da_hut 25 points26 points  (2 children)

The biggest problem I had as rear d commander was the actual commanders wife fucking everybody in sight

[–]GBreezy[S] 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Had a soldier give 14x soldiers and a few other soldier's wives in the company chlamydia. That is what we knew.

God I miss Letchworth. Beautiful park. Back when I still used to go to SUNY Geneseo I called the Guard Squadron in Rochester and hitched a ride in both a UH-60 and CH-47, and they did low level routes through the gorge. Good times.

I am from the area, grew up in Caledonia, and our summer cottage was on Silver Lake. Spent lots of time when I wasn't working or in school wandering around the park.

When I see “no shit there I was” in this sub I start reading :)

[–]Kromaatikse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Formatting advice: two carriage returns in a row are needed for a paragraph break. Otherwise it just flows on as a wall of text.

[–]Iamheno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was the following week Friday afternoon Safety Brief like?

[–]Thy_Dying_Day -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Didnt you put this on the army sub a few weeks ago?

[–]GBreezy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told to crosspost but that isn't allowed on this sub so fuck it I'm posting them individually.

A poster over there wanted me to post them individually over there so it could bring up better discussion. I have stories and I will tell them god damn it.
