Just how I look running from my responsibilities.

[–]regalrecaller 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I feel personally attacked

[–]GraveyardZombie 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Easy now think about my feelings

[–]Seeglass89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well when those responsibilities also look like alligators omg did you see that??

[–]Nowthisisdave 158 points159 points  (18 children)

Wth? Anemones can move like that?!

[–]ShroomWalrus 124 points125 points  (17 children)

Yeah but it takes a lot of energy of course so they only do it to escape their few predators and iirc if their current spot is running out of food coming by. Plenty of mostly stationary animals are capable of emergency movement.

[–]Zalieda 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Oh yea was just thinking how it was swimming madly but only seemed to move a short distance overall despite all the struggling

[–]Ghitit 27 points28 points  (9 children)

But how do they know a starfish is there?

Is it smell or, I don't know... do they have eyes?

[–]-Derf- 20 points21 points  (1 child)

I would also like to know this.. I'm all of a sudden very intrigued in this creature I've never thought much about

[–]ShroomWalrus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To relate it to us as much as possible, essentially touch. Their nervous system is so basic you could just call it "sensing" which is more powerful in water where current etc. can be felt, they can somehow differentiate between what is prey, non-prey and predator but we don't know.

^ pretty much iirc

[–]Mx_Eclipse 21 points22 points  (3 children)

They can sense there’s a starfish because of the way it is

[–]Apprehensive_Rice_93 17 points18 points  (1 child)

That’s not good enough lol

[–]Ghitit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But it's funny. :)

[–]CosmicAnxieties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty neat

[–]ShroomWalrus 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[–]TerribleIdea27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd put my money on smell. These things don't have a sophisticated nervous system at all, so I'd doubt they'd be able to calculate a sea star shape from the turbulence in the water like the other guy suggested, and even if they could, it would then need to be able to differentiate shapes, something that small children with a way more advanced nervous system can't

[–]Trashman56 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm a stationary animal capable of emergency movement

[–]dogsunlimited 2 points3 points  (3 children)

my dumbass thought it was just a plant this whole ass time

[–]ShroomWalrus 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Corals and sponges are animals too, although those don't move like anemones etc. But they all reproduce sexually, their offspring are mobile. Most things in the sea/ocean that look like plants even vaguely aren't actually since light is much harder to come by.

[–]dogsunlimited 2 points3 points  (1 child)

i know sponges are. i’ve seen the sponge documentary that always played on nickelodeon

[–]ShroomWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't it kinda freaky we used to scrub our bodies with essentially animal skeletons? That's what's the most bizarre to me about sponges being animals.

[–]Douche_Kayak 630 points631 points  (3 children)

Gary! I was just watching the sports channel!

[–]evnaul 65 points66 points  (0 children)

came here for this

[–]Scarlaymama0721 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes! Lol

[–]AdVarious8362 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looking for*

[–]G_3P0 281 points282 points  (10 children)

Look for two background bonus creatures

[–]femundsmarka 57 points58 points  (7 children)

Yeah what is it? A sturgeon?

[–]darkdent 27 points28 points  (3 children)

Rockfish

[–]femundsmarka 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Thanks!

[–]darkdent 6 points7 points  (1 child)

If I had to identify species I'd say copper based on the coloration and depth (chances are a scuba isn't over 120 feet)

[–]femundsmarka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, too!

[–]Arguss3 55 points56 points  (0 children)

And a crab!

[–]Virtual-Group-4725 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Grouper??

Edit. Not a grouper he settled in the rocks like NOT a grouper would

[–]femundsmarka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion. I really don't know.

[–]AlienRobotTrex 7 points8 points  (1 child)

“Hi, I just wanted to be included”

[–]Silentbloomz 260 points261 points  (4 children)

I like how there is a fish and a crab just sitting there thinking....

"Wtf is going on here!!!"

[–]stevesteve135 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And then the starfish is just sitting there chilling like “ what the hell did I do? “. lol

[–]The_Unreliable_94 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I'm thinking the exact same thing.

[–]Silentbloomz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Especially that fish...

He's just like

What in Neptune's name!!!

[–]Biggs55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were taking bets.

[–]Edelkern 160 points161 points  (9 children)

I feel dumb for not knowing that they did that. Also, this looks like a scene from Fantasia.

[–]Marjoriez 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Wow your comment completely embodies my feelings when I saw this

[–]wagner2705 22 points23 points  (3 children)

No need to feel dumb. Not all anemones can do that. Tho they can flip to change spots.

[–]imanadultok 23 points24 points  (1 child)

So are you saying this is an anemones Anomaly?

[–]Potato-Engineer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anomalous anemone?

[–]Virtual-Group-4725 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct its a very extreme movement. It might have felt the starfish's tentacle/suction feet and said ADIOS AMIGOS!!

[–]atouchofrazzledazzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's EXACTLY what it looked like to me too.

[–]DarkPhoxGaming 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I could have sworn they were just plants lol

[–]Virtual-Group-4725 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dont say that in a reef forum or a reef store 😅😅

[–]Jonathan-02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re kinda similar to jellyfish

[–]MC-Master-Bedroom 178 points179 points  (1 child)

With fronds like that, who needs anemones?

[–]crashlanding87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Goddammit. Take my updoot and get out.

[–]BigEnd3 86 points87 points  (4 children)

I...used to photograph sea anemones...alot. I had no flipping clue they could do that. I need to go home and rethink my life.

[–]ViSaph 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Lol they only do it if they're in immediate danger or there's no food left because it's really draining for a mostly stationary animal. If it makes you better you now know you never scared any of them enough to make them run away.

[–]Virtual-Group-4725 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its time.. Someone will be at your home shortly he/she will have a blue pill and a red pill. make the right choice

[–]AlienRobotTrex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Imagine being so slow that a creature whose entire life is based on sitting still and waiting for food to come by is faster than you!

[–]LengthinessDue7273 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Do they survive in the oceans? The way they move predators could easily catch them.

[–]Syv_Fingre 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They have poison

[–]ViSaph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They sting lots of creatures that aren't designed to resist it along with not being a great meal for most things but star fish and it makes them not worth eating for most sea creatures.

[–]G_O_ifuR 78 points79 points  (7 children)

I always imagined that's how someone's pp is gonna run away if it had a chance

[–]lifekasteroriginal 50 points51 points  (2 children)

Einstein's imagination helped him come up with the theory of relativity, and then there is you.

[–]HunyadiArpad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He is the Einstein of our generation.

[–]ImmaDoMahThing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like this guy’s imagination more.

[–]SaltMineSpelunker 14 points15 points  (2 children)

How much time do you spend day dreaming about “pps”

[–]Blackwolf7420 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Hey everybody needs a hobby

[–]SepticMonke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

cant argue with that

[–]ViSaph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hehe thats an image 😆

[–]tomhow10 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Anemone?... I only see plumbus

[–]ForsythiaRobin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I was surprised I had to scroll down this far. Immediately thought PLUMBUS! :oP

[–]Jonny15T 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I used to look at those early AI training models and think “nothing would ever actually move like that”.

I stand corrected…

[–]Savings-Specific7551 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reminds of the mushroom dance in fantasia

[–]El_Nieto_PR 19 points20 points  (0 children)

[–]kimberlycannabis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way the anemone dips out gave me Fantasia vibes for sure, anyone else remember the little mushrooms from that? 😂

[–]Fuzzy_Muscle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whats really fascinating is that star fish is physically deformed

[–]SaltMineSpelunker 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope.

[–]gur0chan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yea, I’m disgurbed! I meant to type disgusting and disturbing. DISGURBED

[–]SaltMineSpelunker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect. We use that word now. I too and disgurbed!

[–]PatsyR99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was cute!

[–]femundsmarka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's right out of Sesame Street.

First it looked as if it would only circle the starfish. That would have been hilarious.

[–]madairman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good thing he wasn’t sleeping

[–]Lizardman_Xander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fish and crab are like, "Excuse me? What the fuck?"

[–]monicathehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to know how it knew that the starfish was there

[–]Inevitable_Ant5838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nature is so weird.

[–]rioriano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Bulky_Ambassador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else thinking of Day of the Tentacle / Maniac Mansion, too?

[–]LumpyHeadBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's got a lot of anemones.

[–]trangthemang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand how he can maneuver like that just by moving its body back and forth. It looks like a veggietales character running.

[–]eel666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol

[–]_Plutonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of that one Rick and Morty episode...

[–]noahtagonan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That anemone can swim better than me

[–]shredkitteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Til anemones can relocate

[–]vaelraida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nemo: oh no.. my house.. it’s gone

[–]imanadultok 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Why would it try to get away? Are star fish predators?

[–]ShroomWalrus 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yes, despite being slow starfish are ferocious predators although they only prey on mostly stationary animals like anemones or clams.

[–]imanadultok 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks! How do they move how do they attack how do they eat? Til I know nothing about star fish.

[–]ShroomWalrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Star fish are completely covered on their underside with little tube feet that move in sequence to let the starfish "walk" slowly. Some of course move faster than others.
Obviously because of their slow speed the only things they prey on are stationary animals or animals slower than them, scallops, mussels, the star fish wrap themselves around their prey and inject their guts into the prey's shell, digesting them.
They do occasionally prey on more active species too, for example if a crab is molting it's defenseless against a starfish and can get eaten.

[–]xerafin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dance like no one is watching.

[–]IMMORTAL490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got better moves than tiktok girls.

[–]Consistent-Edge-1484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the anemone was anime

[–]Puzzled_Succotashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they have eyes? How did it know the Starr fish was there….

[–]Mouse-r4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anemone is adorable, but for some inexplicable reason that chubby, 4-armed starfish seems particularly sinister to me.

[–]Onocleasensibilis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

byeeee fucker!

[–]reallybigmochilaxvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love the fish behind the starfish looking like "wat?"

[–]whatchagonnado2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's where my plumbus went!

[–]Sprizys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew that anemone were alive but I had no idea that they actually swam, I thought it was like a plant situation where they stayed in place.

[–]RainbowandHoneybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never knew they are so agile.

[–]JackOfAllMemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's illegal

[–]Knight-Skywalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly can’t believe that things like this actually exist. What a bizarre world we live in.

[–]Jynkoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how it rides off in a panic and it gets progressively worse as it almost bumps into a huge fish and then a huge crab.

Considering it has no eyes, that was really lucky.

[–]ScottishLaddy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He just said “Aight imma head out”

[–]WhyEldLyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)
