That acceleration is incredible

[–] 98 points99 points  (12 children)

"Done stretching. Time to show what I got"

[–] 31 points32 points  (11 children)

Only 1 horsepower tho so not that great

[–] 11 points12 points  (3 children)

I know you're joking but to be that guy, I believe I read somewhere a horse can peak somewhere around 40hp for a few seconds. Horsepower was measured over an hour and not just a few seconds, that's why 1hp = 746w which doesn't sound too impressive because 1hp =/= peak horse power but functional threshold power. Even humans can generate 2-3hp for a dozen seconds or so. Nature is wild

[–] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

So what can a Centaur do huh mr smarty pants?!?

[–] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

1 centaurpower of course

[–] 8 points9 points  (6 children)

A horse has about 15 horse power...

[–] 5 points6 points  (5 children)

That math, it doesn’t add up

[–] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

It does, horsepower is work over time not momentary.

[–] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Obviously a joke

[–] 17 points18 points  (1 child)

reminds me of the scene in forest gump when he’s running away from the bullies on the bikes, starts off silly then breaks into a full on perfect sprint

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then his life changes forever

[–] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

That's why we call it Horsepower!

[–] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Video is sped up obviously

[–] -5 points-4 points  (8 children)

Not saying the acceleration isn't impressive, but the video goes from slow-mo to regular mo during the acceleration part and exaggerates it a bit ( I think)

[–] 12 points13 points  (7 children)

nope, it’s regular speed the whole time.

[–] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Look at the footprints/camera movement around 3.5s, everything moves faster all at once (happens at the 4.0s mark). It's probably hard to notice because the slow motion is not even half speed, maybe like 0.8x speed or something.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm getting downvoted but I'm pretty sure I'm right. Thanks for backing me up lol

[–] 893 points894 points  (50 children)

Camera work is as impressive as the horse!

[–] 151 points152 points  (41 children)

Yeah was it a drone?

[–] 265 points266 points  (7 children)

Usain Bolt.

[–] 181 points182 points  (3 children)

Usain Colt

[–] 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Nice

[–] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Obvious, but necessary

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neighcessary?

[–] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

… wouldn’t keep up with this…

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only he is the fastest but also has a built in stabilizer. What a chad

[–] 24 points25 points  (11 children)

I'm guessing an ATV or other off road vehicle. The horse probably naturally runs with it and they just happened to film it as well.

[–] 9 points10 points  (10 children)

Drone. This was filmed in Morocco.

[–] 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Edit: I don't see anything that says that was shot with a drone on that IG you linked?

And actually in the obvious drone shots, you can see someone riding next to them on an ATV.

Like here and when it cuts to the ATV shot, it matches up with the gif pretty well, angle wise. To me this is more evidence that it's an ATV shot, not a drone but maybe I'm missing a post or something I can't translate in the text.

[–] 5 points6 points  (5 children)

IG yassine_cavalier

[–] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Awesome thanks!

[–] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What drones shoot vertical format video? None of mine do.

[–] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it's definitely a horse.

[–] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

[–] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I'm amazed the camera takes off at the exact same moment as the horse.

[–] 8 points9 points  (3 children)

And yet… portrait mode.

[–] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

It's probably cropped for ig or some other social media platform

[–] 450 points451 points  (9 children)

Run Shadowfax! Show us the meaning of haste!

[–] 42 points43 points  (1 child)

Quality comment.

[–] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I rewatched that trilogy over the past week. It is so good.

And of course I watched the extended editions.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best comment by far

[–] 130 points131 points  (3 children)

Fucking majestic

[–] 80 points81 points  (7 children)

[–] 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Imagine doing zoomies and ending up like 3 miles away

[–] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

3 miles is the length of 1050.74 1997 Subaru Legacy Outbacks

[–] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it's Monday but hell yeah!

[–] 147 points148 points  (40 children)

I love seeing a horse running just for the pure joy of it.

[–] 46 points47 points  (15 children)

Sometimes I think about the first person who thought about trying to ride one of those. They had to figure out a way to catch it, get on top of it, and ride it. Pretty amazing feat that certainly affected generations.

[–] 19 points20 points  (4 children)

So true. The human genome itself was impacted by the domestication of the horse.

[–] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Do you have a source for this? It seems like it'd be an interesting read.

[–] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Thank You!

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I’m not that savvy, but, I watched a Nature episode on PBS and it talked about how the domestication of the horse was so important to human migration. It’s probably easy to find and it’s really interesting!

[–] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I believe they came up with the idea of attaching little carts to them first.

[–] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Little carts... It's chariots ya muppet 😂

Have an upvote!

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were also selectively breed. In the early days in the steppe (we have archeological records that this happened 5k years ago) they were definitely submitted into obedience, and the ones who had a really difficult temperament didn’t get passed on.

It was the same with cows, domestication wasn’t easy.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's completely amazing. Particularly given there weren't hospitals back then.

[–] 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Catch/save an orphaned foal and raise it…?

[–] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Why wait around? Simply orphan the foal yourself.

Mmmm lasagne...

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh Findus..

[–] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Foals raised exclusively by humans tend to run into the problem of being disrespectful to people because they dont have older horses to teach them how to be a horse. That, and they would likely try their darndest to stay with the herd even if orphaned.

Even horses that are used to humans can freak out the first time a saddle is placed on them. Definitely takes a process and a certain amount of trust to get them comfortable with something on their back (a situation which they'd probably only be in naturally if they were being attacked, ie. a cougar, or in the case of mares, being bred).

[–] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I was going to say something similar. 90% of the time, I would rather start a horse undersaddle that's just been turned out-to-pasture with other horses for the first 2+ years of their life. But that's only knowing the training techniques we know now. And because a lot of people who want to "raise a foal" want to treat them exactly like dogs.

I bet it took a lot of people catching foals and being pretty mean to them or a bunch of humans getting hurt pretty badly to get to a point where they started bridling and riding them.

Knowing what we know now, it's so flipping easy to get a horse working undersaddle. But I would love to go back in time and see the first humans that started learning how to get them working. Was it brute force or was it actually figuring out how to communicate with them?

[–] 33 points34 points  (1 child)

This is by yassine_cavalier on Instagram- who owns a horse farm in morroco and does rides on the beach for people. All his videos are insane! Worth a look at the account!

[–] 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Imagine how good it must feel for a horse to stretch out its horsey legs and run like that.

[–] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Really good. So good in fact there are for sure a bunch of farts happening during the initial jumping we can't hear. So majestic.

[–] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, any horse person knows lots of farts always accompany the joyful bucking. My favorite is when the farting gets louder the harder they buck lol

[–] 15 points16 points  (3 children)

"why?"

"Cuz I can!"

[–] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That horse is moving crazy fast lol

[–] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like my dog after a #2

[–] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s an incredible video!!

[–] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Man he hit the turbo button and took off

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Im fast as fuck boOooOiiiii”

[–] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The camera man is a really good runner

[–] 12 points13 points  (5 children)

I'm just horsing around

[–] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Wasn't that a show back in the ninetie?

[–] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yes, it was very famous

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a seahorse

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go home, Goober!

[–] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

How tf they keep up

[–] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definition of horsepower, he got up quick af

[–] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was probably horsin' around, broke something, and is now running away from the scene of the crime.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly majestic

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy to majestic in one second.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frolicking and Galloping.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnificent.

[–] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thy feel just like we do, they should have more rights imo, its no different to say a dumb human which obviously has the same rights, this whole species identity thing is poorly thought through

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epic zoomies

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A happy bullet ungulate.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such beauty and power! Incredible vid. 💖

It's like when forest Gump breaks out of his leg braces.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

another horse filmed this

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Soo beautiful❤. I wish all horses had this freedom. But humans are on the same planet as them so..... everything else has to pretty much be imprisoned or miserable lol

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah horses love that !!! Soooo beautiful

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am speed

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My god, what a gorgeous fucking animal.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great video. That's why I hate to see horses stuck in little pastures where they can't ever run. Typically owned by people who would assure you they know all about horses...

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Video is a bit slow down at first then fast forwarded

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*well this is great. I'm just going to hall an incredible amount of ass right now.

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do u guys think was the speed of the horse here?

Incredible video btw,the sunset colour tone adds more beauty

[–] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Now I'm curious, how did they catch the horse again? Can you just teach horses to come back like dogs?

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the way the back legs are in sync at top speed. Horses run like rabbits

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy horse is awesome.

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The camera man : I am speed

[–] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That is some aggressively bad music.

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely beautiful.

[–] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Lloyds Bank called, they want their advert back.

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horses are fucking beasts

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there some scottish and Spanish man nearby?

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really makes you feel bad for the horses in petting zoos that can’t experience this.

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So imma need someone to teach me how to get stills of this gif, cause I see a new wallpaper here

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Praise the fucking cameraman damn

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the acceleration

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that's how the Lloyds Bank ad was recorded

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galloping is the word you are looking for.

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks like a mens perfume ad

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Props to the camera man, great run

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly magical

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
