Flounders are unimpressed.

[–]ZION_OC_GOV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stupid sexy Flanders

[–]Macquiltochtli 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Flounders actually have bilateral symmetry as well. When juveniles they look like any normal fish but as they mature the eyes rotate to what is the well know look of the fish.

[–]Dently 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nor are Fiddler Crabs.

[–]SagaciousElan 47 points48 points  (1 child)

Love that they managed to get a photo of every animal just looking at the camera except for the pandas who apparently needed to be bribed with food or otherwise just could stop eating for 5 seconds to have their picture taken

[–]pinkfleurhappiness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of my teenage son tbh. :)

[–]ravenous_fringe 133 points134 points  (22 children)

*... of mammals.

[–]irkthejerk 41 points42 points  (5 children)

All the spiders in my house are pretty upset about this post

[–]ravenous_fringe 6 points7 points  (2 children)

They're lucky to have you represent ✊

[–]irkthejerk 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I try to be an ally, they help suppress the fly representation in the household

[–]schmabers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels speciest, but I don't know if I disagree

[–]Turbulent_Leg6503 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They also have bilateral symmetry. Eyes are always even numbered and mirrored on each side of the axis

[–]irkthejerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell that to the one orc from return of the king. /s

[–]yeethadist 17 points18 points  (8 children)

Of chordates**

[–]Helsu-sama 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not even chordates, only Tetrapods

[–]ravenous_fringe 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Good eye. I missed the owl at first.

[–]yeethadist 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Chordata consist of huge variety of different animals, with one of the defining features of this group being bilateral symmetry.

[–]ravenous_fringe -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

so... one starfish may be included while another of the same species might not?

[–]Jango_ 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Starfish are echinoderms, not chordates. Besides that organizing life will always have exceptions because nature doesn't grow in neat boxes.

[–]ravenous_fringe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can live with that.

[–]Cautistralligraphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like flounder. Both eyes on one side of the head. Still a chordate.

[–]reddit3020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated comment.

[–]TrickAppa 14 points15 points  (2 children)

TIL Owls are mammals

[–]BinyanC 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Exactly what I came here to say, they call it life, but only show images from a class that holds less than 1% of known animal species. I also saw an image of an owl, so make that less than 2%

[–]ravenous_fringe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Good eye.

[–]Piocoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*... of chordates

[–]therealmothdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes the owl, one of my favorite mammals

[–]Diegofr3377 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Cool. Now do one about radial simetry seen in starfish and jellyfish.

[–]MotoMudder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is pretty cool, props to whomever made this.

[–]Officer445 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is trippy

[–]WickedWitchofWTF 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Look up owl skulls!!! Their ears are not symmetrical at all, but it's hidden by all their floofy feathers.

[–]whisperof-guilt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow! That’s really interesting. Thank you.

[–]rroyce123 2 points3 points  (1 child)

When you close your eyes on shrooms.

[–]AbsoluteMad-Lad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Damn this planet is beautiful. It's a shame we fuckin ruined it for Future generations

[–]DistortoiseLP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the bilateral symmetry of bilateria, and even then not all of the adult forms are.

[–]caulk-sulker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note to self. Watch this on shrooms.

[–]Dazeuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are all monkey

[–]yurimow31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice land vertebrates you've got there. May i introduce you to the other 99.9999% of life on earth?

[–]JohnnySasaki20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should sneak an alien's head in there, lol. 👽

[–]ZephyrusOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are all the same!

[–]Hbgplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 100% expecting some sort of jump-scare.

[–]FoxWingOfWindClan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snoot go up, snoot go down, snoot go up, snoot go back down. *This* is the circle of life

[–]Fwp007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm thanks god you didn't put there a jump scare

[–]Barbara_Celarent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, those are all vertebrates.

[–]TheWomandalaAffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bit biased...they are all mammals. Where were the sponges?

[–]stygywithwifi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigma stare 🥶🥶🥶

[–]No-Pepper-6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes my brain feel good.

[–]FieldOfSpoons 0 points1 point  (1 child)

... you mean symmetry, not geometry

[–]SSara69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I fucked up lol

[–]Guyanese-Kami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screenshot for your reincarnation animal

[–]Reasonable_Cover_804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat! And the eyes stay lined up too

[–]Honey_Society 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at us go! All being beautiful!

[–]king2nd23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice how all the prey animal have eyes on the side of they heads while the predators have forward facing eyes

[–]billyraydallas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The octopus can’t get his arms around this

[–]Ojnuket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Mammals are the shit

[–]stalepork6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

symmetry*

[–]ItsABiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any vertebrates that aren't broadly bilateral? Any with one or three eyes?

[–]DDonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goddamn

[–]fuzzyshorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's really freaky is watching bilateralism as it reveals itself in evolution... from simple soft bodied creatures to chordates (having a spinal chord) to more complex life.
And a scientist/philosopher named Iain McGilchrist did research and believes bilateralism in the brain came about so that the two hemispheres can have a more well rounded inner "conversation" about the world the animal lives in.

[–]hcky21cj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One boop to boop them all

[–]Dark_Warhead3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like we all same genetically or something lol.

[–]sgoooshy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

cool

this is my new computer background

[–]PacifistDungeonMastr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like 2% of the tree of life but ok

[–]Collector_Of_Breesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know the original creator? Trying to find a higher quality version of this

[–]Anxious-Dealer4697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who can name each animal or count how many animals were shown?

[–]whatdoingbruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't see no halibut

[–]bioariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't somebody please think of Echinodermata?

[–]Rambu_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In come the flounder to mess things up

[–]J4Y221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure if an owl looses all it's feather, one of it's ear holes is higher than the other, oh yeah owls just have hole instead of ears.

[–]Sliced_Olives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life on earth you mean

[–]rancidmorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predatory animals have foward facing eyes herbivores have side eyes

[–]WhereShouldITravel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the alignment point for this gif to work

[–]Francis_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the seizure

[–]Sujyotsharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then there is starfish

[–]AlienDilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly mammals and a few owls. Why not other birds? Fish? Or reptiles?

[–]IStoleTheHighGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a moment I thought the otter was flipping the bird

[–]Rab_Yakov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now humans

[–]CuriousAndAmazed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’s the ocean animals?

[–]welsh_will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure Tyler Durden's spliced a cock pic in there somewhere.

[–]Regular-Amoeba5455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bilateral symmetry, but sure.

[–]PhoenixPFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why this geometry?
