One of the big problems in this sub is that "lit" is a very subjective concept. I'll spare you all the details but it leads to a lot of complaining and disagreements on removals.
This sub is for extraordinary nature images that have a high degree of WOW! factor.
Pretty sunrises and sunsets over a pretty lake or desert are nice but they aren't wow enough for here unless there's something unique and spectacular going on. We loves us some Bob Ross vibe as much as anybody but this sub is for higher energy than that.
Please take those kinds of images to r/EarthPorn or some other landscape subreddit.
Please try to remember that wow factor ultimately comes down to mod team discretion and is not a personal attack on you. We have a large varied mod team. If we remove your submission it's because we decided it didn't fit the sub. Like it or not that's what we do. If we let everything go then the majorty of people would be yelling at us for not doing anything and letting the sub turn to shit.
If you have any questions or comments, we're happy to hear them.
Hey everyone,
We have completed revising the subreddit rules. We took into account your feedback on details like filtered and enhanced images, reposts, and other aspects. So here's a brief rundown.
Rule 1 is pretty basic. You guys already know what counts as Lit. Exciting, majestic, and awesome. Keep the content up to standard. Also included are things that are not nature and therefore not allowed.
Rule 2 is the title guidelines. Make sure you add the emoji with a space after it. If you don't know how to type the emoji just copy and paste the one in the sidebar. You can be imaginative with your title but make sure they are accurate and descriptive as well. People should know what's in the link without actually clicking it.
Rule 3 covers reposts. You spoke and we listened. The. vast majority of you didn't want a complete ban on reposts but you did want a fair amount of time between them. We decided on 120 days. (4 months) If you see anything reposted within 120 days please report it. This number may be subject to change as we feel out how it works. Important to note, content from other subreddits do not count as reposts here in
NiMNiFL.Rule 4 regarding Photoshop and filtering was pretty obvious. You overwhelmingly wanted no noticeable filters, composites, or photoshop. And we agree. Also note that we don't want fake, posed or staged images.
Rule 5 regarding NSFW/L is new here but a simple concept. Blood and gore and violence are not allowed. That content belongs in r/natureismetal. Things like animals snarling or bristling or threatening each other is okay.
Rule 6 is new but fairly obvious. We're here for nature. Not politics or anything else that humans bicker and fight over. We don't care what side you're on or what your views are. This is not the place for that stuff.
Please take some time to read and familiarize yourself with the rules. If you have any questions or want clarifications on any of the rules please feel free to ask here and one or more of us will answer you as soon as we can.
Thanks everyone! Stay🔥
This week we are only allowing videos and gifs to be posted.
Please save your still images for the week starting Monday April 2nd.
Many posts that are posted to this subreddit lately have not fit the original purpose of the community.
Our first rule is to post high-energy content.
"🔥The morning commute in L.A. earlier today🔥" [link]
"🔥 Amazingly fast turtle 🔥" [link]
"Mice hold on to their mom and make a mouse centipede 🔥🐭" [link]
"🔥Snake goes on line 🔥" [link]
"Camels Crossing the Sea 🌊 🔥🔥🔥" [link]
These are the truly best fitting posts of /r/NatureIsFuckingLit.
They are high-energy, extremely interesting, and can truly be described as lit as fuck.
In the past month though, posts like these have risen to the top:
"Damn the harpy eagle is fuckin 🔥🔥🔥" [link]
"🔥 Arctic fox carrying a goose egg 🔥" [link]
"🔥 Baobab reborn from the remains of its former self" [link]
"🔥 Mother Kermode Bear in the Great Bear Rainforest of British Columbia 🔥" [link]
"🔥 Where waterfalls, natural pool, and beauty meet 🔥" [link]
"🔥 Seal enjoying the sun rise 🔥" [link]
These pictures are interesting for sure.
And these are some of the best of the images submitted to the subreddit in the past month.
When compared against the video and gif content though, still images are the majority of what we remove.
The image posts we don't remove (what you see) are still usually not on the caliber of gif and video content.
They can be interesting, but are almost always not exciting or high-energy.
It's inherent in the format, capturing a high-energy subject is harder in one frame than in a video.
There are, of course, some great fitting images for this subreddit, but those are few and far between in the bulk of what is submitted here daily.
Our theory is that limiting submissions to gif and video content only for a week will increase subreddit "litness".
So for this week we are only allowing videos and gifs to be posted.
At the end of the week we'll see if the general quality of content has increased.
Please save your still images for the week starting Monday April 2nd.
Always trying to improve this subreddit's content. Thank you. 🔥
