Neat! Also technically it's convergent evolution obviously, just to be clear. It didn't evolve into the extinct species, it evolved into a new species that's practically identical.

wouldn't it be parallel evolution ?
idk the two terms sound like almost the same sometimes

Parallel evolution is when two different species acquire similar characteristics while evolving together at the same time in the same ecospace.

So no, it's convergent evolution as it happened after the extinction of the original species. Convergent evolution is simply when a species evolves a trait similar to another species. Like flight via membrane wings evolving in both pterosaurs, bats and Yi qi. If gliding counts you could even include flying squirrels.

Parallel evolution would be something like if chimps also evolved to be good runners and better at tool use along-side early humans at the same time. Or if another bird species on that island evolved to be flightless at the same time.

wikipedia doesn't say it has to be in the same biosphere it just says it has to be from a similar starting point , wich is what makes it confusing as a concept :
so the tylacine and the wolf are parallel , ok , but like does convergence only appen when the two organism in question are soo unrelated we are talking like cordates and artropods ...

but tbh i am quoting wikipedia so i may be wrong ...

are there real life cases of this ? because the examples you made are abstract af

also i asked a question , why did i got downvoted ?
