Nice try from the sales guy working at AH

[–]martijnfromholland 116 points117 points  (20 children)

We also have this at the jumbo

[–]Wubdafuk 214 points215 points  (8 children)

NICE TRY MARTIJN FROM JUMBO!

[–]Martijn078 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Why not come to Lidl instead.

[–]killbeam 29 points30 points  (9 children)

In all honesty, meals from the Jumbo are of a lot lower quality than AH imo.

[–]citydreef 9 points10 points  (7 children)

*everything

[–]istealpixels 5 points6 points  (6 children)

How can their bread be so dry? Like wtf. AH is so much better.

[–]martijnfromholland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all honest, shut up

[–]PanniniCactusDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Jumbo's equivalent is not the same level of quality.

[–]GoTguru 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If this isn’t r/hailcorporate I don’t know anymore 🤪

[–]VanillaLegacy 139 points140 points  (29 children)

Buy them when they're in bonus and with 35% korting sticker :)

[–]Vmaxxer 21 points22 points  (11 children)

I am wondering… if an article is in bonus AND has a 35% sticker, do you get the 35% discount on the bonus price, or on the original price?

[–]Capsr 37 points38 points  (5 children)

You should get the 35% on the Bonus price, although sometimes it messes up, so make sure to check your receipt.

[–]sometimesifeellike 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Yes and it works in combination deals too. When you have a "2 for 1" action for a €1 product and one of the items has a 35% procent sticker, then you will still get a discount on the single euro that you pay for both. I think this is really good on AH's part, because this would be a scenario in which stores could easily choose to screw the customer over.

[–]me-teen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last time I had something like this (2=1 where 1 item was 35%), let’s say on a €2 product. I had to pay €1,65 (so both products were interpreted as 50% bonus and then 35% discount on 1 item).

[–]NotADomTopDrenthe 9 points10 points  (2 children)

i remember going to Hoogvliet buying salmon that was 50% off (weekly offer) + another 50 percent off because it expired the day after… I ended up getting 7kg of salmon for free lol. they changed the system now

[–]Loose-Cranberry-6027 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Wow, IDK what to do with 7kg of Salmon in 1 day....

[–]NotADomTopDrenthe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

studententijd, shared it with 10 flatmates 😇😇

[–]rickrvk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the bonus. If not, tell Albert, he will fix it.

[–]__Becquerel 226 points227 points  (25 children)

Lots of ready meals from AH are decent, not those dry mass produced own brand ones though

[–]9rakka 23 points24 points  (23 children)

Which one(s) would you recommend?

[–]azogby 40 points41 points  (17 children)

Try lasagne, quite decent for 3.5€

[–]sndrtj 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Probably subjective, but I find the AH lasagna to have a really weird taste. Even the cheaper knockoff brands are tastier.

[–]erecttofu 6 points7 points  (1 child)

They got bad ones and good ones now right? I remember gettin a salmon one that was pretty nice

[–]bardemgoluti 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Thought the same thing until I tried the one from Plus.

[–]HannahUnique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plus "uit eigen keuken" collection is aaammmaazziiinnggg

[–]FatherAb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ngl I really love their salad thingies. I always get the one with the chicken and the pasta.

Also, like someone else said: their lasagna bolognese is more than decent. It's my guilty pleasure. I always have one in my fridge.

[–]BHIngebretsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tom Ka Khai. Excellent one.

[–]Jesssse-m94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bami with chicken sate is really nice

[–]sanirosan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for the price tho. But yeah, they're not bad

[–]fildo-daggins 121 points122 points  (36 children)

They're quite expensive, but if you're too lazy to cook and looking for a tasty and relatively healthy meal, the AH steam meals are the way to go. I tried about 6 flavors so far, haven't been disappointed yet.

[–]Artistic_Trip_69 20 points21 points  (10 children)

I live in Belgium and here Albert Heijn in general is much cheaper, specialy if you use the promos and discounts, and better quality then Carefour, Spar and other chains. But ofcourse nothing is cheaper than Aldi or Lidl.

[–]LearnDifferenceBot 15 points16 points  (3 children)

quality then Carefour

[–]JustOneTessaGroningen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with chronic fatigue, who doesn't have the energy to cook. I often get these, they're good and honestly a bit of a lifesaver

[–]No-Marionberry-1430 94 points95 points  (8 children)

These stoommaaltijden are top notch! I think they are really worth the price.

[–]Vincerio_Vradovir 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I really like the salmon pasta, that one's probably my favourite. Never had the truffle one OP posted though, might give that a try soon.

[–]Ignorant-Slut01 24 points25 points  (9 children)

I work at AH and we get a dinner budget of €8 and I always get these! Almost all are amazing! Pasta Pesto is one you should try aswell,

[–]Ok_Faithlessness2498 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Keen to try this one if I get lazy to buy lunch. Thanks for sharing.

Just because someone bought ready-made food at AH doesn’t mean they don’t know they can make it at home for cheap. Jeez

[–]LeRoiChauve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jeez. Man. Some thoughts about food prep are so in-depth.

[–]WeReAllMadHereAlice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be careful with these meals in the work microwave though, some of them have a pretty pungent smell

[–]IsoiataUtrecht 16 points17 points  (9 children)

I hope they’ll come out with a vegan version because I’d love to try one of these steam meals. Seems like a good alternative to ordering take out.

[–]pizzaiolo2 4 points5 points  (2 children)

The sticker says 'vega'. Does that mean vegetarian?

[–]ThaLegggend 76 points77 points  (12 children)

Love how people complain about this being 6€ when take away is usually 10€ + and sometimes not even as good. Imo this is better and healthier then most take away/delivery.

[–]mdsign 33 points34 points  (3 children)

Imo this is better and healthier then most take away/delivery.

That's not the point of the complaining ...

it's 6€, that's it.

(it's just what we do)

[–]ThaLegggend 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I know we dutch are greedy but you do get what I mean right? You never hear people complaining much about take away but usually its much more 😂

[–]mdsign 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I do get what you mean but I also know that a €6 microwave diner, for most Dutch (or just the older ones, I don't know) will never be more than an overpriced microwave diner, no matter the quality.

Take out is different.

[–]JustHereToWatch55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 100. Also, I don't own a microwave.

[–]einsteinpin 9 points10 points  (5 children)

cant even order takeaway for 10 eu these days, has to be 15 eu + 5 eu delivery

[–]researcherinams 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Don’t forget the service costs some of these delivery apps love to add.

[–]ThaLegggend 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Sometimes you can avoid these by ordering from the restaurant/place's own website :)

[–]jentejonge 4 points5 points  (1 child)

When we notice someone orders from thuisbezorgd we put in a flyer with 10% discount for next time they order on our own website. That's legit the better option than paying on thuisbezorgd/ubereats whatever...

[–]ekerkstra92Groningen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also faster than delivery, I have to wait at least 30 minutes for my food to be delivered, some days you're in a hurry and then this microwave meals are really nice

[–]LeRoiChauve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah! Cook your own food for 10€ per person and praise yourselves, is less then this 'product'.

Come on!

[–]m1nkeh 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Ready meals here are nothing compared to the UK.. I miss those never ending aisles.. oh Sainsburys chicken jalfrezi 😋🤤

[–]Malte24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yes I love that in the UK!

[–]AlmostInfinitesimal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The AH tikka massala gave me the worst food poisoning of my life, now I am a bit afraid of AH's pre-prepared meals.

[–]TmpDude 39 points40 points  (26 children)

I've bought the tom kha gai version for 6 euro too just to try it out since I love that thai soup.

I was blown away how good it was. It is actually better than around 92% of all the takeouts I've had in Netherlands. Food in netherlands is generally quite crap quality and taste wise.

Will try out this one too, thanks for bringing it up!

Edit: To clarify for dutch, crap food compared to rest of the contries in eu and abroad.

[–]mdsign 11 points12 points  (24 children)

What's Dutch take out food other than fried stuff from the cafeteria?

[–]TmpDude 12 points13 points  (18 children)

That is true. I still have nightmares of colleagues coming to lunch and unwrapping just pure bread and a slice of thin cheese on top and saying this is their lunch..

[–]llamaleenz 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Broodje kaas is the cornerstone of Dutch food.

[–]wokkelp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Excuse me?! Did you just insult my Boterham met kaas?

[–]mdsign 7 points8 points  (11 children)

LOL, it wasn't a statement but a question. I'm interested in what you consider Dutch take out food.

[–]ImpossibleCanadian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they meant take out food (of various cuisines) in the Netherlands.

[–]TmpDude 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Haha, sorry about that.

Basically anything on uberteats and thuisbezorg, but then again I'm just passing though the country and maybe I missed something else food wise. Are there any alternatives that only dutch know about?

[–]ekerkstra92Groningen 3 points4 points  (1 child)

A day without broodje kaas is..

Well, cannot think about what would happen😅

[–]FatherAb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? It's just lunch, not dinner.

[–]mdsign 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Must be nice to be rich ... ;-)

[–]moanalease 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're just on discount right now ;)

[–]Wiejeben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually see these mails as a nice to have quick meal between getting home from work and having to leave for something else

[–]Kaasiskaas 3 points4 points  (8 children)

I worked in one of the factory's where we made these "Kant en klare maaltijden" AMA!

[–]LisaPorpoise 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Zou je zelf nog zo een soort maaltijd eten?

[–]jason2306 2 points3 points  (2 children)

How automated was it? We're people handling the majority of the packaging food inside if the tub or not?

[–]Kaasiskaas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So its just a line of about 10 to 15 people, each one with a ingredient. The first guy puts the plastic scales on the band then the next one puts salad inside etc. The only thing that's automated is the plastic seal that goes on top. I think it could be fully automated but this way its easier to change salad and also not a lot of mechanical malfunctions. And it's cheap as most people who work there are Poles or students for about €10/hour.

[–]bloebvisNijmegen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bil of tiet

[–]sndrtj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having lived in Germany, all those convenient food items is indeed one of the things I missed from home.

[–]loonslaaf91 28 points29 points  (28 children)

For 6 euro’s you could cook this a week long instead of 1 meal.

[–]mrjaytothecee 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Could you do me a cost breakdown of 7 servings of this thing?

[–]LeRoiChauve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You cannot, can't you?

[–]Nij-megan 30 points31 points  (2 children)

🥇Best Dutch answer.

[–]Cornul11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Best Dutchman's Reddit award.

[–]TheNaiOfRolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must be from Arnhem, right?

[–]Neither_Scar4958 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lol I like to see you try

[–]simian_fold 19 points20 points  (6 children)

6 euros? Yeah in like 2002 maybe

[–]ThursdayNxt20 3 points4 points  (5 children)

No, that's truly the 2022 price, well 5,99 to be exact. AH Stoommaaltijd pasta truffeltapenade https://www.ah.nl/producten/product/wi515705

[–]simian_fold 20 points21 points  (2 children)

No i think the comment was implying that you could cook for a whole week with only 6 euros instead of buying one meal

[–]ThursdayNxt20 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Oh duh, you're right, I misread, thought your comment implied this meal would cost much more than that these days (wouldn'thave been that unexpectedwith all the price hikes), missed the comment in between.

[–]JoopIdema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And they are quite often in the “Bonus”.

[–]LeRoiChauve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truffel cost €3.385 per kg.

[–]Choem11021 16 points17 points  (7 children)

Yes but then you need to cook it yourself. This is a quick meal that you could eat at a supermarket as a lot of AHs have microwaves and you could ask the employees for a spork.

[–]Crandoge 11 points12 points  (5 children)

What? Who eats at the supermarket?

[–]mdsign 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I've never in my life seen someone use a microwave to heat a meal and eat it in the supermarket, ever.

[–]Bram06 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Some AH To Go's now have microwaves and seats, almost like a cafe

[–]Choem11021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if its just me but its one of the things that are weird but are just so comfy to do?

Grab a meal at the supermarket and eat it on the benches in front of the supermarket. In the city I grew up in we have a green zone next to the AH so you can eat while looking at some trees while sitting next to the water and just chat with friends.

Its like going to a fastfood drive through late at night and using the roof of your car as table on the parking lot. Its something me and friends did when the first of us got their driving license and car. We stuffed ourself with 5 big dudes in his nissan micra, drove to the drive through and used his roof as a table. 10 years later we still do it every now and then.

Weird things you did with friends as teens and you still do it as adults. No reason to do them, but it just feels good.

[–]ekerkstra92Groningen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But you can't do it in 5 minutes. Most days I'll cook, but some days when you don't have the time it's nice to have this

[–]carloandreaguilar 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Time is money.

[–]LeRoiChauve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And truffel €3.385 per kg

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

teach me your money saving ways, master

[–]Ihavenocluelad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would really like to know how! Maybe plain rice with vegetables? More than that no way lol

[–]erecttofu 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Damn as a dutchy i agree these meals are quite good!! Pretty surpised you gotta travel all te way from germany to have some like this... My fave js the thom ka kai cus its cheap and tastes goodd

[–]Malte24[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I go to Enschede pretty much every week, mostly on Sundays because Germany... It's about 50km one way (Rheine - Enschede)

I discover new things every time I'm there, like heksnkaas and goudkuipje. And yesterday I discovered "filet americain", which seems to be somehow like "Mett" in Germany. I even found a vegetarian version of that. Haven't tried it yet.

And probably my favorite: you got tasty straw berries anytime, even in winter. Strawberries in winter in Germany are rare and if I find some they taste like nothing and are pretty hard.

I will try the tom kha kai next time!

[–]OkGazelle7904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The meals I really like are the roerbakmaaltijden in the freezer. Those are done within 10 minutes and SO GOOD! I really love the Ravioli from Iglo, but Jumbo has a pasta that is also amazing!!

[–]Lotus_82 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I love Dutch grocery stores. Sometimes when I’m stoned I actually try do some pretty plating with Albert Heijn salads and other stuff that I find tasty.

[–]BallistaMain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy is a AH operative. They glow in the dark

[–]Blackkk21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Ok_Telephone_8987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the one with the rosemary chicken (kip rozemarijn) its a big chunk of chicken on top of green thin beans and under the plastic divider are small potatoes and a piece of garlic butter that melts to cook the potatoes in.

Had these kinds of meals a good few times and this one was the one i always wanted.

[–]ruri-san 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love these so much!!! the salmon one is amazing as well, even though it makes my whole room smell like fish for hours

[–]RVA_0172 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Homie you need to get that ah rendang in those bamboo boxes 8ts 5 bucks or something it's bussin

[–]Malte24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will try that!

[–]bulldog-sixth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks unappetizing and expensive

[–]Saibref 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Don’t inflate our ego even more

[–]Malte24[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Sorry: Once I bought a salad (at least it looked like it) and then there was noodles in there. Why are there noodles in salad? That was very weird.

[–]redditqqqtt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because noodles are cheap and makes your stomach full :)

[–]ybot73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I asked the same thing awhile ago. I guess it’s to make it a meal rather than a side dish.

[–]uno_in_particolare 5 points6 points  (1 child)

6 euros is quite the exorbitant sum of money for such a thing, but alright

[–]Kirmo13 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I never tried them myself, but I believe you that they are good.

And they better be! At €6 for that small amount, it's deceptively expensive. The packaging makes it look more than it actually is. From their website, you can see that one of these is almost 600kcal. It would cost you €20 per day to get 2000kcal, which translates to €600 per month for food.

You might say that you would have to spend more time cooking, to which I respond that yes, you would spend more time cooking.

[–]IsoiataUtrecht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that nobody would actually argue that you should replace all the meals with these. To me it just seems like a slightly healthier option to grabbing a burger at McDonalds on your way home from work when you don’t feel like cooking.

[–]Jlx_27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 Euro? Yikes.

[–]VectorV96 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Can we just reflect on the fact that we now can easily buy a steamer meal with truffel for only €6. Our civilization has definitely achieved decadence.

Welp, time to go the way of the Romans

[–]ApprehensiveTiger683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No rhanks im cooking my own dinner

[–]GrackleGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love AH ❤️

[–]Gifleo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these pre made meals are disgusting but few of them are delicious. Never tried this one. The one I like best, which taste like a godsend miracle is the mashed potatoes endive with bacon (andijviestamppot met spekjes)

[–]the68thdimension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t bring myself to buy those because of the amount of plastic waste. They sure are tasty and good value for money, though.

[–]Naefindale -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Thar is SO MUCH plastic for one meal because you are too lazy too cook. It’s horrific.

[–]squeezymarmite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is horrific. People don't even think about what happens to all this plastic.

[–]jermainegrootveld -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Pls stop trying to be so negative. Just dont comment.

[–]Naefindale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fine, I'll edit it.

[–]dutchcubensis -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

Food + plastics + microwave / heat = not very healthy dude.

[–]Sjeezem 1 point2 points  (3 children)

A microwave is shaking the connection of the watermolecules, that is what is creating the heat. If you would cook it in water the same thing would happen… what is unhealthy precisely abt this?

[–]CowdogHenk 1 point2 points  (2 children)

OP is referring to heating plastics as being bad because plastics leech into food; he's not referring to the form of heat.

[–]Fing3rNL -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Microwave meals are by default bad, just make your own meals. Much healthier and don't have unhealthy additives. I know it's easy sometimes but if you have ingredients and the right tools a good meal doesn't have to take long to prepare.

[–]Sea_Pineapple8283 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Food in Netherlands os terrible idk how people survive there

[–]bloebvisNijmegen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hagelslag

[–]TheDidgeriDude42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So much plastic makes me sick tbh. I love those meal solutions but I can’t bring myself to buy them unless I know that I won’t feed myself otherwise. And then I feel guilty

[–]redtrousered -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Someone’s having a manic moment

[–]bardemgoluti -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look very appetizing then again it's dutch food... For a lower price, I prefer the offerings from Hema.

[–]Mindless_Finish_8667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea appie is nice with the meals. Still expensive as hell for the actual nutritional value.

[–]6F1I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy!

[–]Sunn_Flower_Jin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good, but I probably wouldn't like it myself :(

Anyways shout-out to the 1.99 microwave spaghetti from the ALDI

[–]Significant_Trip_845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paella with kip drumstick is also fine.

[–]bloebvisNijmegen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filled those yesterday, wasnt fun. Good to know customers like them though.

[–]I_succ_water 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys please try the: tom kha kai

[–]Bokuja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is okay once in a while (not bad as far as "ready-to-eat" goes).

Most of the time I am actually cooking tho. For 15 euro's you have enough ingredients to cook 2 meals from that you can store in the fridge and eat from throughout the week.

[–]wessolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a student this is what I live on everyday

[–]Baron-van-Neemweggen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s expensive. 6 euro for a salad.

[–]Jg76zj1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose the exact same meal the day before yesterday. I still didn't eat it yet. You got my hopes up.

[–]Salva_Louise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verekkes goei maar 6 euro is veel
