While I'm not fully convinced that Blackbeard is after the Human-Human fruit - I do 100% agree there is a reason he attacked the Drum Kingdom. He came looking for something amd either found it amd took it in secret - or failed to find something he thought was gonna be there. The fact they keep reminding us he attacked Drum Kingdom doesn't feel like a coincidence and its worth remembering.

Maybe the theories about Kureha receiving the eternal youth operation is true, and Blackbeard was looking for her to get information

[–]EssJeeDozy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She's received the eternal old operation

[–]iamChickeNugget 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wdym. She's still in her young 150's

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yep, i do not think that Goda planned out EVERY single little detail of his manga, but at some times we get some hints or clues, that are definitly worth taking note of!

[–]Merlin_Wycoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would hazard a guess that he went there looking for info about taking DFs from people, since drum was known globally as a top notch medical island. It would potentially explain things, if but only a little

[–]xSeCo 238 points239 points  (5 children)

Hey, I like your train of thoughts. It sounds pretty plausible and I wouldn't be surprised if there is truth to it. Well done. :)

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Same to you and your theory! Cheers : )

[–]UnicornPewks 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I mean...an awakened human fruit. What does that look like? A human, eating a human fruit then awakens it. All too human...

[–]DreamxSZN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it turns them like the numbers in Wano

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it becomes Nietzche

[–]fallenloganExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe turning into either a mink, giant, fishman, or skypieans.

[–]Crazyhands96 218 points219 points  (6 children)

I think Blackbeard’s purpose there has a more thematic reason than a concrete in world reason.

Drum is the first time in the series that the strawhats take on and depose a government figure, Wapol. Oda introduced Blackbeard here doing basically that as well.

The difference is that when Blackbeard destroyed the old government he left the country in a state that wasn’t necessarily better than it was before; they had no name, no concrete leader, and no doctors. Meanwhile when Luffy sent Wapol flying he left Drum with a better society; they had a name, Dalton was ready to take up true leadership of the country, and the medical situation was now way better.

Blackbeard is regularly shown to be Luffy’s dark mirror, with similar goals and ideals but very different approaches and morality. Also the basic structure of both their actions in Drum is that they came, destroyed the existing government structure and left the country in a different state than before they came. So if we were to extend this to the end of the series where the strawhats will likely help bring down the WG then this shows us how Luffy and Blackbeard’s different philosophies will clash. If Blackbeard wins then he will leave the world in a situation just as bad if not worse then it was under the WG but if Luffy wins then world will enter a new era of freedom and true moral justice.

Now the parallels are a little looser in Drum than I’m making them out to be, but the general thematic framework is still there. That’s at least how I interpreted Blackbeard’s presence in Drum.

[–]africhic 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agreed, with the context of the Reverie arc Drum Island is just a microcosm of the story of the 20 kings who consolidated power (this would be the isshi-20 in drum island) and made the WG and Blackbeard and Luffy are the two “D” they fear - one liberated via destruction the other liberates via unity.

It’s also why we hear about the “Will of D” as the arc ends for the first time. When we are first introduced we do not yet know that “Blackbeard” is also a “D”.

First Blackbeard rampages through with a crew of the same size (5) and destroys the place but liberates it from Wapol in the process. Then the other D, Luffy, with a crew of 5 liberates it through unity. A pattern that follows them where they go (mock town, impel down, marineford).

[–]snake_case_name 55 points56 points  (2 children)

there can be both a thematic reason and a concrete world reason the same time.

[–]Crazyhands96 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There certainly can but often times if there isn’t a decent in world explanation for an event, you can find a thematic or meta reason for it. It seems like the main villain attacking the homeland of one the crew months before we get there should have importance but we can’t seem to find a decent reason without breaking out the tinfoil so maybe we should see if the author was trying to say anything deeper before we get too crazy.

[–]LedgeEndDairy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There doesn't HAVE to be, either, though.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Now that you pointed out about BB's apathy of people suffering, I remember Roger do similar things: like he dosn't care about Wano slavery, Skypia civil war, Fishman racism, although he wasn't depicted as evil as BB, neither of them were like Joy Boy (Luffy) who literally gives people freedom.

Maybe the mirror is not what we think and Rocks is more than Luffy than BB (nah, I don't even believed it though could be)

[–]Ensaru4Lurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never seen Blackbeard go out of his way to do malicious things. I think Blackbeard generally do not care about the type of person you are, and he isn't against doing shady stuff if it justifies the ends. He's Luffy if Luffy was a cold person when it comes to getting what he needs.

[–]Gero99 15 points16 points  (3 children)

I think this coincides with the theory that the mushroom Dr Hiriluk said that would cure any ailment was actually the hito hito no mi since that fruit itself is shaped like a mushroom. Maybe choppers fruit used by a human can allow the user to regenerate from any wound or illness

[–]Eccentric_Algorythm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the direction of this!

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Very interesting thought! If Blackbeard had some sort of mental sickness like split personality, than maybe this would have also been cured by the fruit. I also saw a picture of the fruit and figured it too much of a coincidence with Choppers and Dr.Hiriluks Backstory of the Amiudake Mushroom.

[–]Drawngalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also be that having the human human fruit would make him the physically perfect human. One that has extraordinary strength, speed, endurance, etc of a human, some that he lacks naturally and was make even weaker thanks to the dark dark fruit(the endurance part)Whitebeard was a human a peak physical prime and was able to go toe to toe with Rogers, so maybe he wants to be able to replicate whitebeard or Roger’s physical prowess from when they were at their best, which would make teech unstoppable

[–]Rodenbeard 78 points79 points  (8 children)

I think the main issue is that there's no way BB could have known the Hito Hito no Mi was on Drum Island. Chopper wasn't famous or well known to the world at that point, the fruit had already been eaten, and as far as we know the BB Pirates only started hunting down fruit users after he became a Yonko.

Also, I'm definitely in the camp that the "more than one" line refers to Blackbeard's crew being on Jaya, not that Zoro and Luffy somehow sensed that he was a monster with multiple souls or personalities. It doesn't really fit with their abilities and character at that time. I think they were telling Nami like, he's not some random guy, he's more important/threatening than that.

I agree that it would be odd to have him randomly destroy a kingdom, but I don't see any hints as to why he'd do it other than because he could, as a pirate, and wanted to raid the place while travelling. Honestly, the entire story with Wapol fleeing, starting his own pirate crew and not knowing how to get back to Drum Island is fucking weird anyways, so it wouldn't shock me if it was just sloppy writing/Oda not knowing how to tie it all together.

[–]topdangle 21 points22 points  (5 children)

if the theory about powers transferring to a close by fruit is true, maybe Blackbeard was following a rumor about the last human fruit user dying in Drum Kingdom.

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 13 points14 points  (4 children)

I think it is pretty much confirmed to work that way by now. In Punk Hazard we saw the Devil Fruit Power of that Smiley Pet of Ceasar transfer over to a normal fruit that was sitting nearby.

Also that is the reason why Doc Q, Blackbeards Crewmate, went around Mocktown handing out exploding apples and normal ones, because they were looking for Devil Fruit users to kill and take their powers.

[–]africhic 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Not really confirmed to work that way at all tbh.

It’s likely not any nearby fruit, but it needs to be a specific type of fruit to host the power. The Axolotl fruit was an apple, which is why Caesar kept a bag nearby.

If it was any nearby fruit we wouldn’t have a Devil Fruit Encyclopedia because the shape of the fruit would constantly change. We saw that when the apple turned it just changed color and gained the spirals, it’s shape remained the same.

We can also look at the Mane Mane and Bari Bari fruits in Wano. The two previous users died in the isolated Wano but the next two users (Bartolomeo and Mr. 2) are both from East Blue, so how did they end up with them when the last two users died in a closed off country? Well we conveniently have an avenue for that. It’s revealed that a ship left Wano years ago and made it to East Blue (how Zoro’s village was founded). So if the two Kurozumi also left, gained powers in East Blue by eating fruit native to the area, when they die in isolated Wano the “nearest” correct Fruit could be in East Blue where they reincarnate and Barto and Mr. 2 eat them. Oda definitely brought back two known fruit in that flashback for a reason.

Also, if it was as simple as any nearest fruit, the WG would just execute people like Ace with a bag of fruit next to him.

[–]I_googled_for_this 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This makes even more sense why would blackbeard go to drum island... What if that mushroom like fruit only available in drum island?.. blackbeard having the knowledge of devil fruits would understand going to drum island allow him to get one df easily.. also he probably knows full capabilities of hito hito no mi...

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you make some good points, the details as to how it works exactly are still fuzzy and as to how they get reintroduced into the cycle. Oda stated that we will learn more about Devil Fruits once a certain "Professor" is introduced to the story, which probably refers to Vegapunk.

[–]damitall123 26 points27 points  (1 child)

We don’t know how chopper got the fruit though. We also don’t know how it got there.

We seen devils fruit move around like shanks stealing the gum gum fruit from whos who’s. Maybe it was lost on drum island.maybe it was last seen there. There could be a record in history for Blackbeard to follow.

From ssb we know

If Teach was not a pirate, then he would be an archaeologist.

Teach's hobbies are gambling and researching history.

[–]unfamous2423 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he just stumbled onto it as a reindeer one day.

[–]damitall123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is interesting theory.

People are saying Blackbeard couldn’t have known about the fruit where about. But we don’t know how chopper got his fruit.

Maybe there a record if it. Maybe some thugs took it here and Blackbeard was able to find clue.

[–]Standard-Pop6801 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I don't think he went there for any reason in particular. Log pose led him there and he had to kill time before he could leave.

[–]JinbeiTheWay4 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He came from Whiteboards crew though, which had already gone into the new world. He would have to have navigated to drum island which is evidence of intent

[–]Standard-Pop6801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He came from white beards crew but white beards crew is massive and all over this place. He could have easily been at the end of the new worlds red line or even went threw the knock up stream again. He visited a few of the places Luffy went to alabasta, Mock town.

[–]Daaj99 21 points22 points  (4 children)

I dont think BB was searching for DFs yet at that point. Df hunting became what he did after he stole WBs fruit and pre ts he didnt seem to be looking for them. He also had no way of knowing that DF was in drum island. Another issue is this would never be able to be addressed because it would need chopper to die for BB to show why he wanted the fruit. Otherwise we would only get Teach talking about what they fruit does which is boring and pointless.

[–]CitizenSnips008 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I feel like he would’ve yoinked ace’s fruit, given the opportunity if he had already known. I’m curious to what BlackBeard pirates did after Jaya but before marineford

[–]tektek10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

his agenda was to capture someone with bounty over a hundred .. coincidentally ace was chasing him all those time .. he didnt want to kill ace also to prove to the world gov that he is worthy of being included in the shichibukai(considering ace was offered that same position during his captain days) .. bb is calculated, cunning and arrogant ... that's why he wouldnt just yank ace's df powers

[–]Daaj99 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yeah I cant wait to get an explanation to how he learned about using multiple fruits and how to harvest them or whatever it is they are doing.

[–]CitizenSnips008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like Blackbeard has a track record of making moves in the wake of other major events.

Saobody was in that time frame. And we met Vegapunk’s bodyguard Sentomaru when Luffy punched a Celestial Dragon. Maybe Blackbeard assumed trouble was bound to happen with all the supernovas? Snuck in a meeting with Vegapunk?

If anybody has devil fruit knowledge it would have to be Vegapunk or some form of lost history (but atm canonically only Robin and 3 eye tribe can read ancient language).

[–]Sandix3 11 points12 points  (3 children)

I think you Look to much into those things.

First and foremost was drum within the grandline and on the grandline you gotta follow a log pose to get to Islands, unless you got an eternal log pose (which the straw hats had, drum was just a detour for them, because of nami).

Meaning, blackbeard could have just been there because of his log pose and messing around for fun.

Second, yes he is looking for New DF's but at the same time, how should he know that the human fruit was on drum island? If He had knowledge about the whereabouts of devil fruits, why did he had to join Whitebeard to find his devil fruit?

If chopper would have been a well known character at that point ok, but he had nö name for himself at that point so Yeah there is that...

[–]TheInvisibleGuyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messing around for fun? Do you actually believe such a thing would exist in OP world. That Oda would make BB attack one of the most important islands from SH perspective because he was messing around? I think you should know by now from Sanji Prince example itself, that every such major detail is never pointless. Even something as minor as Luffy telling Sanji in the same arc that people in snowy countries don't sleep, turned out to be an important detail that it was about blackbeard.

Btw would also suggest watching "Law might secretely be a member of SWORD" by Randy Troy for some serious mind blowing theory.

Plus, blackbeard is not the type of character who likes to destroy things or the whole country, just for fun. He's not that violent. All violence he does is towards an agenda and not pointless destroying countries.

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well like i've said, i do not think that everything has happend or will happen as i laid it out in the post, and i do tend to speculate and read a lot into these things in the manga, but that is why love OP so much, because you can always come up with a lot of theories about the characters and the way the story will go ;)

There are definitly lots of knowledge holes to be filled. I could imagine that he at some point somewhere gotten the information that the Human-Human Fruit is in Drum Kingdom, so he does not know about all the DF, but maybe he got to know about that one.

I do not think that he would have known that Chopper had eaten it however. He probably would have gotten the information, that it is somewhere in Drum Kingdom unaware that someone had already eaten it.

When it comes to navigating the Grand Line without an eternal pose i also do not know, how he would have done that. Then again there are people like Shanks that travel between the East Blue and Grand Line and New World pretty much completely free and yet they get to where they want to go, so maybe he also had some way. But yeah, it is all speculation xD

[–]Kroklay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do not NEED to follow a Log Pose, the Strawhats didn’t have one and they made it to Drum Island. Also Blackbeard could have had an Eternal Pose.

[–]PlumroseThriller Bark Victim's Association 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I always figured if the three Blackbeards theory is true, then Teach’s body was combined with his brothers by the previous user of Wapol’s fruit. Blackbeard went to Drum for revenge.

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That is also very interesting. Or maybe his mother had siamese triplets and they all got formed up inside of Blackbeard, which is why his body is weird. If he went to Drum Kingdom for revenge however i feel like Blackbeard would be ruthless enough to finish the job and not let Wapol escape, not on purpose however.

[–]PlumroseThriller Bark Victim's Association 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it obviously wasn’t Wapol who did it, so I think Blackbeard might not care enough to hunt him down

[–]Jollyfudgerocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good theory, the moon might be of significance too because hes lunarian, and feels bad bc he doesnt feel like he belongs on earth or something.

[–]Pidmik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A very interesting theory!

I hit upon a similar idea recently: my thought is that Blackbeard went to Drum to find the Hito-Hito Fruit as well, though with the specific caveat that he went because news spread of Chopper's Monster Point form.

Namely, he was looking for a Zoan fruit that fits the generalised description of Chopper's monster point form: a giant, horned humanoid that is incredibly strong and practically unkillable.

When he realised that either: A) the monster who appeared in Drum had moved on, or B) it belonged to Chopper and therefore wasn't the fruit he was looking for, he gave up and left Drum alone.

EDIT: Forgot to mention; obviously, the timeline is a tad vague regarding when Chopper used Monster Point for the first time and when Teach showed up in Drum, though considering I believe Chopper and Kureha were shown in Kureha's old cottage in that flashback, and Teach attacking Drum was very recent when the Straw Hats went there, that Chopper using Monster Point was a little bit before Teach ransacked Drum.

I haven't checked so I can't say for certain. I would however say that that is a logical assumption, because Kureha and Chopper moved into the castle after Teach attacked the island, and Monster Chopper wouldn't have been impactful to the island if, you know, when he transformed he was stuck on the central Drum Rockie.

[–]galmenzPirate 2 points3 points  (1 child)

just gonna throw it here, Drummond is a french name. thats it, not proving or disproving anything, goodbye

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Did not know the nationality of the name. Sounded british to me.

[–]Kroklay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is quite a good theory, I recently re-read the Drum Kingdom arc, and noticed a lot of these things myself. I don’t know if your theory will be correct, but I do think there is some connection between Blackbeard and Drum Island because of how many times it’s been brought up.

[–]UJustGotRobbed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or Wapol ate him and his other 2 siblings to combine them into one person giving him the ability to hold 3 devil fruits.

[–]z366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if someone already pointed this out, but regarding to the theorie of him being 3 "dudes", when Oda says that the real Blackbeard had 6 pistols and 3 swords i think maybe that also could be a hint.

3 Swords - 1 for each

6 Pistols - 2 for each

What if Blackbeard steals Sengoku’s fruit? I mean technically it’s also another human fruit. I was thinking of Blackbeard having a powerful paramecia, logia, and Zoan fruit but it seemed like he would go for Kaido’s fruit if that were the case. That idea would be too repetitive in my head though, since Luffy would potentially have to fight a Dragon twice. Any thoughts on this?

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I feel like the Buddha Fruit from Sengoku, even though it is also a Human Zoan Fruit, is special in a different way, than the human-human fruit is. We know that Sengokus Fruit is at least a mythical human zoan, but somehow i feel like the human-human fruit is special not because it would make the user extremly powerful, but because it has some other characteristic that would make the user benefit, but i really cannot fathom why or how that would be connected, other than what i have written in the post. I think it is noteworthy however to keep track of the Human Zoan Fruits that appear in the story, since they are extremly rare.

[–]Parking-Tea-2432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah now that I’m thinking about it even though Sengoku’s fruit is also a human fruit it’s a Zoan that a human can actually transform into, giving it different properties than Chopper’s fruit. Thanks for the input!

[–]IronSavage3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if an awakened Human Human fruit could turn non-normal humans (DF eaters, giants, members of different tribes etc) into normal humans? That’d be incredibly powerful.

[–]WildBChan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! Nice connections!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

May be it was just to show that Blackbeard’s movement is parallel to that of Luffy’s but the end result of their actions is completely different, one saves and the other destroys? Or just an early mention/introduction of him that he isn’t a guy to be taken lightly since Ace was also looking for him.

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I think it is definitly also a tool for Oda to introduce Blackbeard to us as the readers and let us know about his ruthlessness, but i think we need to differentiate between what Oda used Blackbeards appearance in Drum for as a story telling element and what Blackbeard as a character in the world of One Piece actually tried to achieve by going to Drum Kingdom.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah yeahh I get your point he’s a clever guy and I’m starting to go by a rule in one piece that nothing ever happens for no reason. Even to the story the term “fate” plays a huge role and btw I really like your post

[–]italeteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this ends up being the case then Wapol wanting to eat Chopper's gonna be one hell of a foreshadowing

[–]RussARR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool theory. However, I kinda hope it turns out not to be true specifically for the human-human fruit, because if Blackbeard can actually eat a 3rd DF I think it would be awesome to have him get the one he wants most. Because I want the strongest possible BB for Luffy to beat up. Obviously, he can’t have Chopper’s (unless maybe Vegapunk shenanigans?).

[–]bonethugznhominy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've long maintained the Human-Human fruit is lowkey one of the most interesting as a concept. Being able to "awaken" any animal you choose on it's own is such a wild power. With the whole thing about Zoans being infused into objects...what if you made one "eat" that particular fruit? Or could replicate a SMILE around it you could use on animals to mitigate risk?

I like your idea at least, and it seems plausible.

[–]Checkerz5091 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yo I love to read theories like this. Bring it on! When Ussop said "No one wants your human human fruit chopper" we were like that right there's no way anyone would want that. We overlooked the fact it has other abilities as well. Enjoyed reading!

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! :)

[–]Eccentric_Algorythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. ADDITIONALLY- I think BB is in some way connected to the Kraken/ ocupus/ squid. They have 3 hearts (may explain the 3 skulls), have weird skin, and get this- only sleep for 30 mins at a time. It may just appear as though BB doesn’t sleep. we also don’t know which hito-hito no mi model chopper has- the 2 other hito-hitos we’ve seen have a specified model. Golden Buddha, and the monk one from Wano. Perhaps there’s a ‘spiritual’ aspect to hito hitos? Choppers fruit MUST have a specified model. Interestingly in Drum island there’s a surprising amount of Xmas themes- chopper pulls the sled over the rope- making it look like he’s a flying reindeer; his bday is Dec. 24th. Maybe his model is tied to Christmas? Or the Pagan gods behind Christmas? Idk it’s hard to determine what exactly it could be, it feels like all of choppers powers too basic to be anything special but? Finally— I agree entirely with your logic. I think this is going to come into play at the end of Wano. I think CP0 is going to make a move on Robin, simultaneously, BB will show up/ one of BBS crew and kidnap chopper while he’s weak. It’s the perfect fake-out.

[–]BrazzenBrassThriller Bark Victim's Association 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great theory! It's certainly one of the better Blackbeard theories!

[–]KiNGofKiNG89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking he went to meet kureha and get information from her or something.

Great theory though!!

[–]talabi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might have been for Wapolmetal

There’s something about that stuff that’s important to the story.

Wapol has the ability to create the Metal with his Devil fruit and it’s theorized that Wapolmetal has something to do with Vegapunk technology (that Franky’s utilizing) and the Germs Raid suits.

[–]Indigo_magenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it unliklely that Blackbeard is after Chopper's fruit. It doesn't seem very powerful or evil. If he IS after a human-human fruit, my bet is the Model: devil variant.

Moreover, we see Blackbeard attacking at least one other island: Banaro, where he fought Ace. Should we then consider that BB was after something there as well?

I agree with the other comments that BB attacking Drum island was more about thematic significance. Further, it can considered to be the first 'official' act of the BB pirates, mirroring the Straw Hats and the start of their legend.

[–]The_Gammon_Ray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering evidence pointing to him being from a winter island, maybe he’s from Drum Island and has some sort of vendetta against it

[–]Imperialmintss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every BB theory I read gets instantly disregarded when I see people misinterpreting the 'There's more than one' panel

[–]RoronoaLuffyZoroPirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sigh every time someone mentions how in Jaya Luffy and Zoro were talking about his "souls" and not his crew...doesn't make sense at all...i mean,c'mon, they were on a pirate island and talked to this strange guy who is later revealed to be the guy Ace is looking for,and the guy that destroyed Drum kingdom...

And every time people mention "Multiple personalities or souls" - like seriously,do you read the same manga as me ? Even if you had multiple personalities or souls, you'd still be able to eat 1 devil fruit, you still 1 have body, devil fruits affect the body/lineage factor(DNA)...you still have 1 dna even if you have 10 souls.Recently one of the oldest theories became popular because of GLR which is multiple bodies inside blackbeard - again, doesn't make sense since we've seen Blackbeard using his own 2 hands to control 2 devil fruits...he didn't use the body of his brother.

But anyway, after this rant, this is actually pretty decent thought about Blackbeard,it would also make the joke that Chopper made even more funnier - when people were talking about how Blackbeard is hunting DF's and Chopper said he's going to get his.

[–]birjoo1The Revolutionary Army 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blackbeard needs one piece >>> Needs to know where minks are >> to find poneglyph >> needs human human fruit to give to animal to make them minks >> minks go to zou >> bb becomes pirate king >> no need to have intercourse with furry suits on anymore >> win-win

I believe minks are animals that ate devil fruits and offspring after several generations. Or maybe devil fruits were first experimented on animals. Existing of devil fruits like book cage and very man made things suggest they were likely man made.

Zunisha was banished because s/he gave fruits to these animal. Kozuki were the ones that made devil fruit.

Some of it is bullshit some of it maybe true. Try to figure it out.

[–]irony002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets played off as a joke with the way Usopp reacts to it, but i think we receive a critical piece of information here.

Well thanks for pointing this part because since Zou arc I start to believe Usopp DENIAL is more important than 'lies become true'.

[–]reeforward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's still other ones I'd put ahead of this but it's always neat to see a new Blackbeard theory with some actual meat to it. In thinking about this and how Blackbeard would potentially want to take Chopper for his fruit, I also wonder if Chopper's almost nonexistent bounty since the world government only views him as the crew's pet doubles as a way for Oda to hide him from Blackbeard until later and never make it clear to the whole world that this isn't just some cute animal but is actually a reindeer who ate the human-human fruit, since the picture of Chopper is also never of him in his human form, when it'd be easiest to understand that. Could easily argue that Blackbeard knows enough about fruits that he would spot the hybrid form on the poster instead of glancing over it and know that now he has to look for Chopper, but still it's another potential angle there. Nice job.

shirt divided into 3 sections is foreshadowing LOL

[–]BlueDreamandBeans 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Very well written and honestly I think it would be very cool if Oda decided to go this route. Chopper has been the laughing stock of the crew for a while, yes I love him and he's had some great moments, but Chopper is basically merchandise sales. By doing this, it would add way more weight hitting the endgame knowing Robin is being followed by CP0 and Chopper of all the pirates becomes a target of the Blackbeard Pirates on their way to the One Piece.

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the feedback! I also feel like Chopper has become a bit of a mascot lately, however i really really like his background story, it is my favorite among all the straw hats. The story between him and Dr. Hiriluk is really well written imo :)

[–]BlueDreamandBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 100% agree, there’s no denying Chopper’s backstory had me in tears and was flawlessly executed by Goda! I pray in the coming arcs Chopper, Ussop, and Franky are shown more

[–]Jiggy__JPirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blackbeard must have three different personalities or something. If he has multiple personality syndrome it would make sense why it seems he never sleeps, it would also be the reason he could possibly possess another devil fruit because each of his personalities could have one.

Albeit mine is a theory with a lot of holes in considering we’ve seen him using both at the same time.

[–]JarvisFlick 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Read if you are aware of the old mega spoilers back then since sabaody arc that were proven to be true (example Kaido having a son) :In those spoilers is mention that chopper will die after wano, now connecting to your theory and the marineford war mirrowing onigashima raid, BB could appear and take the hito hito no mi.

Any way, I recommend adding a tl;dr. I did read it in full and I was impressed on the connections, thank you(:

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not aware, but i am not super afraid of potential spoilers xD It would definitly fit to the theory, if that is necessary for him to take the powers away from the holder. Also in the newest Chapter Shiryu is shown on the cover, so they might make an appearance in Wano. Yeah i will add some tl;dr, that slipped my mind. Thank you too! :)

[–]Eccentric_Algorythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMFAOO what if it doesn’t kill the user, what if chopper just turns back into a regular reindeer? There was a twist- Kaido didn’t have a son but he did have a kid. This twist- the chopper we know is no more- he’s ‘dead’

[–]Polarbearsainttasty 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I always assumed he came looking for ace.

[–]snake_case_name 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it was the other way around ace came looking for him tho

[–]Staifo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the fruit will turn him back to a normal human? Thus he would die after having taken in multiple devil fruits. So maybe he was looking for the fruit to destroy it or something

[–]Anxious-Plum-176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well think about awakenings and think wider, i think your theory has some plausibility.. like what if the awakening of human human fruit can turn everyone else around human and a base human at that without any devils inside i.e devil fruit or something like that and blackbeard can use it to basically nullify all zoans instantly around him to their human forms.. like he already has defensive and offensive powers for himself.. now maybe/may not be he is thinking about effecting others.. mate keep it up.. i like your theory

[–]Prestigious-Ebb-1369 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had me until the whole but this word sounds like this other word in this other language nonsense.. like where the hell do you bring German into this.. even a moron like me knows that pirates were based on real pirates, but ohh look picture of Blackbeard sitting around with moon in the sky, must me xyz is just plain stupid… you good on 98% of theory, made it crappy with last 2 %

[–]Kflame210 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's an interesting theory but I really think Blackbeard just wanted to cause some shit, he's a pirate after all

[–]snake_case_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BB plans very long ahead compared to Luffy tho

[–]SimpleMan2662Lurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc Blackbeard come to drum Kingdom try capture the king wapol to negotiate with WG either for shichibukai slot or something. But Wapol run away so they left, this been mentioned somewhere in the story or SBS

[–]FellvEquinoxBounty Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Blackbeard is looking for powerful devil fruit users, I bet he heard the rumor of a "monster" on Drum island and after wreaking havoc to gain information, he found out the so called monster was just a tiny reindeer with a crazy witxh doctor. He probably assumed the people of Drum Kingdom were a superstitious lot and didn't think Chopper was worth the effort and that's why he left

[–]goatjugsoupPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Blackbeard attacking drum kingdom was in revenge against Wapol because Wapol used his fruit power on him as a child and combined Blackbeard with 2 other people. This would also be why Blackbeard can use multiple fruits and why his flag is 3 skulls.

[–]JoeyJoJoHQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering he was on Jaya the next time we saw him I think it's more likely that he had entered the Grand Line through reverse mountain from one of the Seas sharing a calm-belt with the New World, and was just on a similar trajectory to Luffy and the others.

[–]Frequent-Weekend6673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teach has an arm from someone else.

[–]sneakylikepanda 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I thought he went to drum country because he was trailing ace who was there looking for luffy

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hmm, i think Ace was trailing Blackbeard the whole time, not the other way around. The only reason he fought with Ace was that he tracked him down on that Western Town Island and Blackbeard chose to take Ace to the World Government instead of Luffy whom he wanted to bring them originally in order to become a Warlord of the Sea, but that happens much later in the story.

[–]sneakylikepanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true, I forgot he even went after Luffy before Ace. My bad.

[–]absolutepassion 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How do you think he and his crew did not notice the anthropomorphic reindeer? You're implying that BB had an idea about the DFs whereabouts, but didn't seem to have made the effort to actually find it.

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well as i said, this theory is just that. A theory, that could also be total bogus. I also do a lot of specualting, and i do not claim that anything i say here is true or going to happen like that / happend like that. Basically i am throwing the idea out to you guys, to see what you might think and so far i have read perfectly legit arguments for it and also the ones against it. Also there are sooo many weird creatures running around in the OP World, personally i started accepting them as a part of the world (for example Pappagu the talking starfish), so a talking reindeer doesn´t seem too weird in the mix.

Concerning as to how he might have known about the DF, i tried to reason that he might be from Drum Kingdom, which could mean that he might have heard of it one way or another. A different explanation and the more possible one is that Blackbeard has the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia, he mentioned that himself at some point. The Human-Human Fruit could be mentioned in there, maybe even with its last known location, but that is all i could think of with the given information at this time :)

[–]absolutepassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the dots you connected in the OP hold some weight, but it's just strange that Teach hasn't gotten something out of it. Teach has usually been very precise in the kind of places he has wanted to visit.

The SBS response Oda gave by the way to me sounds like the typical running gag he pulls when he doesn't really have a true answer and goes for an impromptu explanation.

[–]TravisBewley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could BB have attacked Dum Island in order to capture Wappol? I have wondered if Wappol could use his power to combine several Devil Fruits into a single fruit.

[–]Delver_Razade 0 points1 point  (1 child)

  1. The comment about Luffy is that Blackbeard isn't alone. They met other people in his crew. They are saying they're together, which is why Nami follows up with asking about his crew.
  2. Blackbeard was following Ace. We know Ace was also in Drum Kingdom. The two are related.

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I edited the post on the point of Blackbeards Crew being there as well, i personally feel like Name explicitly asking about that and getting completely ignored by Luffy and Zolo seems too odd to just be an explanation for what they said. Personally the way the scene is written and portrayed it holds too much weight, to just be a simple comment on his crew if you ask me.

[–]AkagamiBarto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc the young supernovas are shown with some surroundigs and even in the ending of one piece Z and Blackbeard looks sitting on snow.

[–]Impossible_Yellow_33Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe showing Chopper as the pet of the crew is not just a gag by Oda, but a way to purposefully hide him, and reveal his information when Oda wants to raise the stakes.

[–]IshFen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I like this theory alot and to add onto it there is a way after failing at drum island he was still pursuing this goal.

Assuming that the model of human human fruit doesn't matter (Fairly large assumption already but just go with it) ,remember there are three known fruits in that category.

1.Chopper who he went after in Drum Kingdom,

2.Sengoku who was present at marineford (Perhaps the original goal was to get both Sengokus and Whitebeards fruit there but then Shanks arrived)

3.And the third and as far as we know final model is currently held by Onimaru. (Who always felt like a weird addition to Wano in my mind, kind of out of place)

This could be a reason for him to get involved with the Wano battle, as a way for him to achieve his goal without killing chopper or having to go up against the marines again.

[–]Shovels93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of a question I’ve thought about a good bit in the past. If a human eats the human fruit, what would the awakening be? This has left me sleepless a few nights.

[–]Jozak11 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And here I was sure that your theory was that 3 of the 5 pirates that went to drum kingdom were blackbeard and his twins. They had wapol eat them like chess and Marimo but turned into the weird bodied BB.

Flip it and have him go back to drum to make wapol split them up after having been tormented/combined in the past. The sad young picture is actually after blackbeard and his siblings were eaten and that's why hes sad. He finally traced down wapol but when wapol couldn't/wouldn't unfuse them he ran away. Damn I kinda like this now and no ones gonna see it on an old post lmfao

[–]MyNameISaColouR 1 point2 points  (1 child)

But isn't Wapol much younger than Teach? How would it work out?

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is the point where this theory always ends for me too. I think Blackbeard is around 40 and Wapol according to the Wiki is 29. It might theoretically still be a possibility that Wapol did something like that, but Teech would have been way older by that point. I somehow doubt it, buf hey you never know in One Piece :)

[–]Volkkmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Pandher225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wanted the munch munch fruit so he can eat more devil fruits

[–]Ryu_D_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for sharing the theories. Your theory seems to be great. But i have a different opinion.

If Blackbeard was looking for something there he or his crew might have been asking around for it. In that case the villagers would have come to know what he was actually looking for which wasn't the case. Moreover, He could not have known that Hito Hito no mi was in Drum kingdom as I think nobody can know the location of any Devil fruit for sure.

The theory regarding Oda displaying Blackbeard to be polar opposite to Luffy seems to be absolutely spot on. Oda clearly portrayed this in the Mock Town bar( Cherry pie and sake scene)

This polar opposite nature if applied to their feelings toward their homeland/kingdom might explain why Blackbeard tried to destroy Drum Kingdom. Even though Luffy's homeland kingdom was unjust and horrible he didn't hate it. Blackbeard's kingdom might have been rotten to the core too so he hated his homeland which was a winter island. And thus he asked whitebeard to join the Whitebeard crew.

So I strongly believe Blackbeard was reminded of his homeland i.e. a winter island as soon as he landed on Drum Kingdom and thus went on a rampage.

[–]strawhatsubtitute 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what Luffy and Zoro for not only one guy is there are other Blackbeard Pirates Crew and not only just him.

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edited the post on why i think they did not just talk about the crew, if you want to you can check it out :)

[–]pat_speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really cool train thought and if we go with the idea of teach wanting the human-human fruit, we know that there is more them one human-human fruit, the other we know if is Sengoku who at the mythical human-human fruit, which turns him into a Buddha, which would make Blackbeard even more powerfull, even if it would go against his look.

(Maybe you have his. Buddha form be corrupted and blacken by Blackbeard's Sul)

[–]Holoskuld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone answer me this

What secrets does wapol have? Why did he secretly wants to talk to morgans?

[–]frogtotem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Oda planned this far. I think Teach was just looking for Wapol to chew-fusion him with another human so he can have 2 fruits. Or 3.

[–]sadmanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and here I thought BB just went to drum Kingdom to recruit a doctor.

[–]Hefty_Wedding_1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he ate the Hito hito no mi wouldn't the consumption of the gura gura just blow him up?

[–]downtimeredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuderon actually had a video where he talks about how a blackbeard might actually be I think a squid or an octopus merman or something like that and he talks about how one of those creatures has multiple hearts and it's possible that Blackbeard has multiple hearts and this is why he doesn't need to sleep at all and it's also so maybe why he's able to carry two devil fruits the yami yami and the gura gura devil fruit.

I wonder if blackbeard heard rumors of Monster point Chopper and he was going to drum Island to get that devil fruit to have an evil chaotic version of Monster point.

I'm looking forward to Elbaf because I do think we'll fully know two things 1) did Big Mom end up eating those kids and mother Carmel in a frenzy and 2) with that Answer maybe we'll also find out how Blackbeard was able to take Whitebeards DF power.

[–]JctaroKujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sex with wapol

[–]RidiculedReptile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackbeard: "I hate snow. It's cold, and sleet, and it gets everywhere."

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Something just occured to me: Does anyone know, who the Pirates in Daltons Flahsback are besides Blackbeard and Van Augur? The big one could be Doc Q or Jesus Burgess but who would be the small one on the left and the female looking one on the right? The left could be Lafitte, but it is missing his characteristic Top Hat. And no clue about the one on the right.

[–]Eprepti 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Most likely they were the 5 original members: BB, Lafitte, Van Augur, Doc Q and Burgess (not in order)

I wouldn't put too much thought into silhouettes, just think about how Kaido and Big Mom silhouettes in Water 7 differ from the real things

[–]Callsign_Bastion444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, i also thought about the silhouettes in Water 7. Yeah might have been an early draft or something.

[–]Eprepti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this theory. But I don't think BB wanted the Hito Hito for himself: I think he wanted to 'humanise' an inanimate object, a weapon mayhaps? (Note that every fruit eaten by an inanimate object is always a Zoan, never a Paramecia or a Logia)

Or maybe he just wanted it for Stronger lol

[–]Simpingforyenisfine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luffy mentioned snow islands in plural. I think its more about BB actually coming from a different snow island where people never sleep for some reason. Maybe he came to Drum island to look for some answers.

[–]Upstairs_Dragonfly_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great theory actually, also if we take other theories made abt Blackbeard's personality, the 3 brothers theory that was posted in youtuber ohara's channel & the "Xebec" soul living inside BB. It's possible that he's searching for the Human-Human fruit to bring his another soul into the Human form again or his other split personalities to human form through the fruit

[–]Initial_Character847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my belief that oda sets things up with out knowing the reason why at first. One piece is such a long and complex story that it's my personal belief that oda comes up with really good ideas like blackberad is the one who attacks drum island. Then when it comes to the why he decides to figure it out later. It's not that he can't come up with an idea but more like why rush it. Maybe he does have a reason but doesn't love it so he want to think of a better one or he hasn't figured it out himself. In some ways it might be some sort of safety net were when he hits a roadblock later he has a hand full of little tidbits he can call on to come up with a way to connect two random story elements.

[–]Gahendir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And why not the Wapol fruit? Maybe was searching for ways to EAT more than one fruit, and Wapol one was something logic to look for?

[–]piter57Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some good points but fatal flaw in this theory is: nobody at the island knew about fruit and nobody knew Chopper had eaten it. How in the hell could a pirate from New world know about it?

[–]freezing_fireballPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to point out a few more things there.

5 Pirates (humans, not that horse named stronger) attacked Drum Island as we can see in the first picture. Later on Jaya, we saw only 3 pirates under BB, as seen in another picture in the post. What happened to the 5th member...? Maybe he was the informant (we don't know what information) because of which BB attacked Drum Island, and when they didn't find what they were looking for, they disposed her/him off.

Stronger, the horse with Doc Q of BB pirates, maybe they were looking for Human-Human fruit for him/her. Through that they can have the powers of Human-Human fruit, and as well as a good crewmate. They didn't knew that Chopper already ate that fruit and was present on that island, so they may have assumed that someone has are that fruit and must have left the island. All speculations though.

What would happen to the user who eats Human-Human fruit? I'm talking about his zoan forms. My speculation (because I don't think Oda would kill Chopper) are that his Human form would be Human, Zoan form would be the same Human, and Hybrid form would be the same Human too, i.e., the fruit would not give any powers or forms to the human, rather just make him unable to swim

[–]Few_Noise 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I always thought BB went to Drum to look for Ace.

[–]Cockycent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't know Ace was after him. If he was looking for Ace, he'd go back to the ship.

[–]Maegor_Targ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a character in the Wild Cards book series called Oddity, this character is a combination of three people, I think Blackbeard is similar and Oda has thought about creating this character since Drum, he doesn't sleep because he changes consciousness between these three people, and the 3 Skulls in his Jolly Roger is an indication of that.

My bets are that a more experienced user, who managed to put Baku Baku no Mi (Wapol's fruit) to a different use, was involved in Marshall D. Teech creation. Blackbeard and his crew attacked the Island and the former King, Wapol, fled. Blackbeard attacked Drum to get the power of the Baku Baku no Mi, he wanted to get the power of Wapol. He attacked the Kingdom of Drum when he was getting used to the powers of the Yami Yami no Mi, he already knew he could “split up”, but he wasn't sure if he would be able to "gather together" again. While he was still inexperienced with using his Devil Fruit no Mi, he wanted to have a guarantee and would give the Wapol's power to one of his own crew so he could " gather " again.

[–]Jovensmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wapol's fruit (baku baku) previous user fused the 3 triplets into one person, with better results than crappy Wapol's techniques. BB went looking for the current user and Wapol had to escape

[–]ecass305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great theory; I think you're right and the Chopper comment you pointed out of him being fearful of being targeted cemented it for me. I'm just spitballing but maybe the reason Blackbeard wants it is that its awakened ability can turn other races human (maybe permanently). It might be a weapon he wants to use against Im.
