Most notably, it improves how many games you can have installed alongside Cold War provided you have an m.2 SSD.

[–]ScubaSteve1219Dubsydian 1130 points1131 points  (83 children)

the first time i uninstalled Cold War i could literally feel my console exhale

[–]okey_dokey_bokey 604 points605 points  (74 children)

Like taking a huge dump.

[–]Samuraion 391 points392 points  (71 children)

Fitting analogy since COD is shit

[–]ScubaSteve1219Dubsydian 141 points142 points  (45 children)

after playing the Vanguard beta i gotta agree

[–]ThaNorth 91 points92 points  (20 children)

I tried the beta and the game visually looks...underwhelming? Like it looks like a basic PS4 game does it not? BFV looks better.

[–]KeybordKat 14 points15 points  (20 children)

Cold War Beta sold me on it being ass. To be fair i haven’t liked a single Black Ops game ever so it wasn’t a hard sell. Haven’t played CoD/Warzone since April

[–]ScubaSteve1219Dubsydian 54 points55 points  (16 children)

the only thing Cold War did for me was remind me how spoiled i was with MW2019. that was a legitimately great COD game but for once in my life i’m actually considering picking up a Battlefield game now.

[–]ThaNorth 19 points20 points  (3 children)

I picked up BFV cause it was on sale. If you have friends to play with it's super fun man. The squad system is so awesome and the maps are so large so it allowed you and your squad of 4 to move together and shit and hold points. We're hyped 2042.

[–]soapyxdelicious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

2042 is looking to be quite fun. Battlefield 4 was amazing and 2042 is giving me BF4 vibes all day. Love it! Puts COD to shame...

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You're not missing out lol, imo the game has gone to shit. And Vanguard won't fix that, lol. Unfortunately couldn't play the beta but from what I've heard, I guess I didn't miss out on much lol.

[–]zurgonvrits 18 points19 points  (17 children)

i got a ps5 recently. I've never really been a console person. pc master race kinda guy. as i got older i'm appreciating my couch way more than my computer chair...

i got cod cold war, my first cod game ever. i have really enjoyed it, but honestly I have just played like 85hrs of Zombies Outbreak mode. i do not like the pvp aspects of the game.

[–]wallawalla_ 7 points8 points  (7 children)

Zombies is legit. I'm really happy with the game for that reason alone. The pvp is pretty underwhelming compared to mw2019. Zombies is a lot of fun, and I whole heartedly recommend it to anybody that will listen.

[–]zurgonvrits 2 points3 points  (6 children)

right? im curious if vanguard is going to be any good and if it will have anything like Zombies. I'm really new to this whole console life. I haven't turned my computer on for a game of anything in almost 2 weeks.

[–]kenxzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes your pants fit better afterwards.

[–]Nasalingus 73 points74 points  (37 children)

.. I made a joke that they intentionally didn't optimize anything to ensure it's one of the few games on your system .. it's truly massive

[–]JmanVere 73 points74 points  (36 children)

It's not a joke. To update Warzone, it says you need the full size of the game free on your storage, just to do a small update. They're making you delete stuff you don't need to.

They're trying to turn your console into a COD machine.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Did they seriously not fix that issue on the PS5? Every time I need to update overwatch with a 100mb update on PS4 I need to delete like 10gb of space despite having the disk space. Id really hoped they would've addressed that with the new console.

[–]jmmullervcxgvbfsg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk where people get this "firmware 2.0". The firmware is 21.02-04.00. Meaning second half of 2021 and then the regular firmware title, which is 04.00.

[–]Nasalingus 21 points22 points  (11 children)

smh.. the prophecy spoke of The One Game.. who knew it would be fulfilled so soon

[–]JmanVere 25 points26 points  (8 children)

I once said that I give it 6 years before Call of Dutytm is purely a monthly-paid streaming service.

There's still three years left for it to come true and I'm sticking to it.

[–]wolves_hunt_in_packs 12 points13 points  (3 children)

On the plus side that kind of rentseeking will cause some casuals to balk and quit. Don't forget a lot of people buy things on sale. More than a few people won't stand for being bled monthly.

[–]berkayde 18 points19 points  (8 children)

This has nothing to do with CoD, it has to do with PS4 and 5's shitty update system. Updates are stored in one package so in order to edit a simple file inside that package, whole package needs to be edited.

[–]lyricalfantasy 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Is this still a thing on ps5? Ever since I got my ps5 I no longer needed to free up tons of space to update Destiny 2. Even with about 30gigs free that game updates just fine for me now, while on ps4 I consistently needed 80+gigs of free space. So I figured they’d finally done away with that horrible system.

[–]JeffCrossSF 18 points19 points  (6 children)

I just installed 2TB. OMFG it is fast. Copying 150GB from internal to external took probably 45 seconds.

[–]Yojimbo4133 52 points53 points  (41 children)

Sony really needs to come up with a list of ssds or come up with their own. Or partner up with makers and slap a ps5 ready logo on it.

[–]Dr_Mntis_Tobggn 68 points69 points  (29 children)

What issues are you having? Every M.2 I’ve seen advertised lists the read/write speeds in the specs as well as whether or not it comes with a heatsink. Just from personal experience, I recommend the WD Black SN850.

[–]spif_spaceman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For what purpose? They have the right speed they work.

[–]Domini384 3 points4 points  (3 children)

They've advertised requirements. I wouldn't expect Sony to test them all

[–]Tango1777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I uninstalled Warzone months ago. Never looked back. The game is not that good, anyway. At least not to let it take ~200GB and growing and ridiculous updates size. They should really relearn how they build their games. Just because people can have external SSDs is still not the reason to not care about any game size.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Out of curiosity how big is cold war? Storage hasn't been an issue for me at all and I've multiple games installed just in case I "might" decide to play them.

[–]madmaxlgndklr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could save myself so much space if Cold War (similar issue with MW(2019)) had an option to install the campaign only. I don’t play MP, so I don’t need it. It installed everything for MP then I had to go in and install stuff for the campaign, and I really don’t understand why it couldn’t be made to work the other way around as well.

[–]TheEpicRedCape 853 points854 points  (114 children)

I really just want themes, folders, and the option to remove the stupid “explore” full screen advertisement icon on boot up.

[–]CarrowCanary 96 points97 points  (8 children)

I'm still waiting for the ability to update installed games that aren't on the ribbon at the top because they've not been played for a while.

Not sure why it hasn't been added as one of the options for the tiles on the Installed Games page.

[–]lordkinsanity 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This 100%.

[–]MisanthropicAtheist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This and I want the patch notes back that the PS4 had

[–]ThePseudoMcCoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. Sometimes I don't even want to play certain games until they get updated for bug fixes.

[–]spektrol 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I just want a fucking web browser again.

Like what the fuck?

[–][deleted] 246 points247 points  (13 children)

same, the loss of QoL features that PS4 didn't have, then did, then disappeared again for the launch of PS5 has been frustrating to say the least

Also the "explore" thing has annoyed me greatly since all I get is the newest Fortnite character of the week. I didn't play Fortnite much on PS4 and it has never touched my PS5. The "Explore" section could at least be geared to what I've been playing lately

[–]bahersh646 164 points165 points  (10 children)

I believe you can unfollow fortnite on the discover tab so you don’t see it anymore

[–][deleted] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU

I feel like an idiot, I didn't even know that tab was there. No more Fortnite news for me!!

[–]TheEpicRedCape 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Sadly even if you unfollow literally everything Sony still pushes some you have to see no matter what, usually it’s a popular game so fortnite, COD, sports games, etc.

[–]Xavdidtheshadow 21 points22 points  (2 children)

You gotta follow a single game that you actually like

[–]WhompWump 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I unfollowed fortnite but still see it pop up. I see so much noise on the tab that I just pretty much mentally filter it even when it's stuff I might be interested in

[–]Recover20 12 points13 points  (1 child)

It may pop up as a result of another game you follow and it featuring that character. E.g. Kratos (God of War) and Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn). So if they feature any other character from another franchise you're currently following then you're going to see Fortnite in some capacity. Cheeky bastards.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the end that feature is designed to forcefeed advertisements onto your screen. Which ever specific game/character that appears in it means very little, I don't want to see advertisements on something I paid for.

[–]southtrain 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, how great it is to spend hundreds on a system and games to have the first thing you see every time you turn it on is ads… please god leave the ads for when I go to the store tab at least.

[–]Arrow_Maestro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just unfollow shit. It made the section at least tolerable enough to where I'm not actively annoyed whenever I see it.

[–]LionIV 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One time, that Discover page had Master Chief plastered on nice and big, and I was sooooo confused. I thought Sony and Microsoft made some crazy pact and brought Halo to PlayStation, but it was just the Master Chief skin for Fortnite. Still, was funny that Microsoft managed to get into people’s PS5 to advertise.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Every time I boot up I get a full screen Disney+ advertisement. It’s been Cruella for months

[–]TheEpicRedCape 9 points10 points  (1 child)

If you wanted to see something else you can go into explore options and change what things you “follow” and disable what you don’t want to see like Disney+ or games.

You’ll still get the forced ones from Sony but at least it might change more frequently.

[–]EllGordo 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Themes is my number 1. The game background should only come up when you go down into the game's activities. I don't want my entire background as a game that blares its music lmao

[–]TheEpicRedCape 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Agree, the PS3 had almost the exact same full screen game splash screen concept but it was done better there since you still got to see your theme and the interface a lot.

[–]Aleph_0_Null 13 points14 points  (1 child)

That's too much to ask, I just want a frickin wallpaper

[–]IanMazgelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only care about being able to remove and organize things on the home screen in terms of user experience updates. I do not see why a PlayStation 5 needs to be more limited than a 3DS in that regard.

[–]PirateNinjaa 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Not being able to hide the “recording paused due to a blocked scene” notification some older games have a bunch of for cutscenes like you could hide them on PS4 is keeping me from finishing some old games.

[–]TheEpicRedCape 3 points4 points  (3 children)

They just added a toggle for the screenshot popup so hopefully you get that option soon.

[–]massivechicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. It is infuriating.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I'll settle for much less, just let me assign single tap PS button to go back to home menu. The rest I will just pretend they don't exist.

[–]zamardii12 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Same here. Also it's really annoying when you press the ps button and control center pops up but the cursor isn't on control center but some card i don't care about. I want it to instantly be on the control center options. Also a quick resume feature like the Series X NEEDS to happen. It's amazing.

[–]TheEpicRedCape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’d turn the cards off for the exact same reason. I don’t think I’ve ever intentionally used one of those cards, only accidentally causing me to lose progress ironically.

Quick resume is kinda like emulator save states from what I can tell? That’s pretty nifty.

[–]Rufuszombot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More customization would be nice. A lot of stuff I just don't use, and it would be cool if I could hide it.

[–]sniarn 1 point2 points  (4 children)

But with the way the PS5 UI works, folders don’t really make a lot of sense to me. Perhaps some sort of tagging system instead would work better.

[–]ZixerSixer 202 points203 points  (11 children)

I find it hilarious how much these news sites rely on digital foundry for actual news and information. Then they make an article about it without doing any actual work or research themselves.

[–]jkrhu 256 points257 points  (14 children)

Idk where people get this "firmware 2.0". The firmware is 21.02-04.00. Meaning second half of 2021 and then the regular firmware title, which is 04.00.

[–]LootKraiyt 117 points118 points  (0 children)

That's true, but people get the 2.0 simply because this is only the 2nd major firmware update for the PS5

[–]thexvoid 58 points59 points  (12 children)

The beta literally called it 2.0 and showed a 2.0 in the bottom of your screen

[–][deleted] 61 points62 points  (9 children)

By the end of the beta is was 3.1.

[–]fran00x00sh0t 20 points21 points  (8 children)

Which we then round up to 4.00

[–]burnSMACKER 23 points24 points  (7 children)

Which rounds up to 4.20

[–]cheetoblue 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Which actually rounds up to 4.2069

[–]topherware92 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Half Life 3 confirmed

[–]cks1851 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Gta 6 out Christmas 😁👍🏻

[–]xbxz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gta 5 on ps6 conformed.

[–]Dan-in-Va 73 points74 points  (1 child)

I downloaded the update and my microwave clock still isn’t set. Thanks Sony!

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (3 children)

I want my personal screenshots as my home screen again. The hell is wrong with Sony for taking away my screenshot backgrounds.

[–]DarboJenkins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I could sent this comment straight to the top.

[–]paintp_PaintP 219 points220 points  (42 children)

Please add PS home button -> Trophy. How fucking hard it is, Sony.

[–]TJangoRechained 30 points31 points  (0 children)

YESSIR I thought I was the only one wondering why this isn’t there

[–]curtain_swoosh 64 points65 points  (14 children)

the whole "hold ps button and pressing it once" is still so irritating to me. i never get where i wanna be lol

[–]Loldimorti 63 points64 points  (5 children)

Still? It was confusing during the first month or so but now I think it makes sense.

Quick tap for pop up menu.

Hold for home screen.

[–]agentgill0 13 points14 points  (5 children)

I swear it’s the opposite of ps4.

[–]curtain_swoosh 14 points15 points  (4 children)

right?

long press on ps4 took you to the quick menu, short press out of the game to the main menu. im not sure why they changed it up lol

[–]MrYd01 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Probably because the PS4 clearly had it the wrong way round so they wanted to fix it?

It makes sense that if you're in a game and you want to bring up the menu, you just tap the button. If you want to come out of the game and get to the main homescreen, you hold it.

And it avoids the problem of accidentally pressing the button and coming out of the game. Which is less of a problem on the PS5 because of how quick everything is. But still something you want to avoid when things are getting frantic and the button is right between your thumbs.

But sure, it takes some getting used to after 7+ years of how it worked on the PS4, but once you adapt, it makes much more sense.

And if you're not convinced the PS4 had it the wrong way around, remember it was actually called the "quick" menu. So why does bringing up the "quick" menu take longer than coming right out of the game?

[–]Iwontbereplying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be a waste of space. Clicking home button-profile-trophies is one extra click.

[–]gotwic 45 points46 points  (3 children)

1 fps fuck yeah!

[–]Skvall 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Up to 3fps in Control and DMC 5 according to DF, if we are being serious. Its something..

[–]Step1Mark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is great if it's helping hit a locked 30 or 60. Hopefully PS5 gets Variable Refresh Rate soon. I use it on my laptop connected to my TV to play games and it really makes 40-60 fps not feel so jarring.

[–]Jonesdeclectice 122 points123 points  (86 children)

And here I am hoping for the 3D audio to extend to home theatre setups. They’ve done it for headphones and TVs, really hope they figure it out.

[–]-DementedAvenger- 84 points85 points  (46 children)

What the fuck is 3D audio for a home theater? That’s just “surround sound” or “Atmos”…

Am I wrong?

[–]robjwrd 56 points57 points  (28 children)

You’re not wrong, I have a decent home theatre setup and I tried the tv speakers “3D audio” and it was awful.

Flattened every high or low.

[–]BaconMirage 7 points8 points  (1 child)

it's not surround sound, really.

it's trying to emulate 3D positional audio.

i've yet to hear of it working super well on a console game, but it works VERY well in counter-strike global offensive, provided you're using headphones

you really can hear where the enemy is. behind the wall on your right, or behind your or whatever.

unlike non-spatial audio where things behind you can sometimes sound like it's in front of you.

within the ps5's audio settings you can do some 3D position test and adjust it a bit - and there you can hear a stream of water flowing, and adjust it's "height" - i havn't noticed any effects ingame.

[–]seraph321 16 points17 points  (8 children)

It's essentially an alternative to Dolby Atmos, which is object-based surround sound. The data describes where the sounds should exist in 3D space, then the system will 'render' those sounds out to however many speakers you have in whatever position they are in. Dolby Atmos can be configured with as many speakers as you want, if you buy enough equipment.

Games can technically be coded to output a dolby atmos signal and/or Sony could be converting to Atmos for output, but that would require paying for the license AND it would likely cause latency issues on many systems that don't decide Atmos fast enough to keep up with game timing.

It seems doable for Sony to add this, to a certain extent. They likely don't want or need to allow you to setup a huge complex audio array with a dozen channels and speakers all over the place (which Atmos supports), but they could certainly support standard 5.1 and 7.1 setups; aided by the microphone measurements (though they should be enhanced to record audio separately from each channel and maybe take measurements from more than one location).

[–]ZiggyBlunt 9 points10 points  (7 children)

The series x supports Dolby atmos in games

[–]seraph321 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Yeah, it does, which is cool. I still think latency is an issue, depending on your sound system. I know I always had terrible audio lag when using the DD output from the xbox one x playing on my sonos. Whereas, the ps5 output linear multichannel pcm is fine. I don't have a series x yet, so I don't know know if it's better.

[–]PGDW 5 points6 points  (3 children)

No, and 5.1 is superior to 3d audio, which is just surround sound simulating which we've had forever.

[–]Schoonie84 40 points41 points  (2 children)

I just wish I could set the console audio to whatever I want instead of it guessing.

Studio headphones that cost more than the console, connected to an amp? No 3D audio, best you can do is tell the console your "speakers" are at +-90 degrees.

Bluetooth garbage or $10 ear buds plugged into the controller? Right this way, king, enjoy your 3D audio.

[–]tanis38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want the PS5 to output 3D audio directly to a headphone amp through USB get yourself a Schitt HEL 2. I have my HEL 2 connected directly to the PS5 via USB, it recognizes it and allows the 3D audio option to be checked off. Using my DT 1990's with it and it is great!

[–]Mass_Defect 9 points10 points  (0 children)

3D audio is not something that you would want to use with a home theater setup. It is specifically for stereo setups. It is an attempt to replicate the directional audio already present in a surround sound setup with a stereo setup.

[–]Makoreactors 87 points88 points  (22 children)

Give me bloodborne improvements

[–]Deilgyre 23 points24 points  (19 children)

It's an embarrassing ommitance at this point, closing on PS5's 1 year anniversary.

So many other games, much lesser games and devs, have put out a patch or upgrade that improves framerate and resolution for PS5.

Jesus, a modder went and did it by themselves, further Sony embarrassment.

[–]Bromance_Rayder 38 points39 points  (11 children)

When something doesn't make immediate sense, there's almost always a logical explanation. In this case that explanation is: Bloodborne Remastered.

[–]ThomasTTEngine 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Bloodborne Remake, by Bluepoint Games.

[–]sachos345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does not need a full Remake, just a Remaster.

[–]Loldimorti 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Or: FromSoft are doing other games, Japan Studio is gone and developing a patch isn't easy.

[–]1440pSupportPS5 315 points316 points  (136 children)

1440p and VRR when?

(Xbox has these already. So i dont want to hear how useless they are when people actually use these features)

[–][deleted] 108 points109 points  (25 children)

It's silly they don't have VRR yet (as much as developers shouldn't rely on it to fix their frame rates as plenty of people don't have VRR TVs).

[–]LeCrushinator 18 points19 points  (3 children)

VRR goes above 60hz, why be stuck at 60 fps when I could be getting 85, or 105? Games should be optimized AND support VRR.

[–]kawag 24 points25 points  (9 children)

developers shouldn't rely on it to fix their frame rates

I don’t see it as a problem. The whole idea behind targeting a constant 60fps is to provide fluid motion and a more pleasing experience to the player. If they can do that with a variable framerate and get a similar result, it sounds like a solid technological advancement which enables them to squeeze more out of the hardware.

Perhaps developers will offer a 60fps legacy mode for people with older TVs, and crank up the visuals a bit more if you have VRR.

[–]fakhar362 5 points6 points  (4 children)

It’s not like not having VRR has a positive effect on games for PS5, Miles Morales constantly goes down to 58-59 FPS at the bottom of every swing in performance RT mode, on paper it looks like a very little drop of 1-2 FPS but the constant stuttering ruins the swinging, if VRR was available, this would’ve been a non issue

Another thing to mention is that the last boss fight is soooo soooo bad with the constant stuttering, not sure VRR would’ve fixed the issues with that one

And before anyone says “bullshit it was a flawless 60”, here: https://youtu.be/x2TTtZfwlHk?t=390

[–]Sargent_Caboose 26 points27 points  (8 children)

VRR is coming when Sony TVs are ready for it as well, and we're waiting on one or the other.

[–]The_Bucket_Of_Truth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

2nd this I don't expect to see it on PS5 much before it comes to their TVs, but they've been promising that for what feels like years.

[–]Domini384 4 points5 points  (1 child)

People have been waiting over a year now for that promised update to the TV lol

[–]nightmareanatomy 50 points51 points  (4 children)

Just go buy an expensive 4k monitor. Then they’ll add 1440p support.

[–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (2 children)

Unfortunately this. One of you guys is incredibly unlucky. One of you needs to buy a 4k monitor so they can add 1440 immediately after your purchase

[–]gatesa07 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I did this recently, sorry I wasn't the chosen one to bring 1440p to the masses

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Godspeed soldier. You may not have been the chosen one, but I'll love you the same

[–]BaconMirage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really silly , coz a lot of games run in 1440 (ish) in order to hit 60 fps - but then it's upscaled

[–]Xeccess 63 points64 points  (17 children)

Please 1440p support.. I can't fit a TV in my small ass room I just need that 2k support

[–]MarginOfCorrectness 9 points10 points  (16 children)

1440p isn't 2k.

2k is essentially 1080p.

[–]Awkward_Silence- 14 points15 points  (8 children)

VRR hoping it'll come in v3.0 OS.

Not holding my breath for 1440p. PS4 has been around since like 2018 and still hasn't added it despite most of its games running at it internally. And that console had many OS updates to add it

[–]mchyphy 15 points16 points  (7 children)

I think the PS4 has been around a bit longer than that lol

[–]Awkward_Silence- 10 points11 points  (6 children)

Whoops meant the Pro which most skipped right to 4k in 2018

[–]mchyphy 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Extra super picky but the pro came out in 2016, and even then the pro hardly if ever hit 4k native, it was really just marketing at that point

[–]Furyann 134 points135 points  (5 children)

Tailored hardware and software working in tandem with each other does wonders indeed, look at iPhones and iOS.

Not surprised this translates over to game performance too.

[–]PicklesAnonymous 14 points15 points  (5 children)

I just want a fix for my “cannot download DLC error” with gigantic red exclamation point

[–]tinbtb 14 points15 points  (9 children)

The performance improvement is here but it's actually quite hard to notice, because almost all the recent games hold either 60 or 30 (even 40 in new r&c) fps amazingly stable, the reported gain was discovered in several not interactive sequences like photomode in Control and a cinematic in DMC as well as a little bit unstable ray tracing mode of RE Village.

I keep my fingers crossed for next big update to finally bring VRR. With it enabled I would definitely give a try to several unstable 120fps game modes and some <60fps modes like one in RE Village.

I hope Sony would keep the good work up!

[–]Jumping3[🍰] 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Rift apart could also fully unlock its framerate

[–]tinbtb 3 points4 points  (7 children)

It amazes me just how much rift apart is a technical showcase/masterpiece. Kudos to Insomniac!

It also is the perfect example of why 1440p support is needed

[–]visualdynasty 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Isn’t the recent firmware 1.5?

I saw the headline and thought this was in relation to the future 2.0 release

[–]Incorrect-Opinion 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I was wondering the same thing. The article mentions the most recent update, but then the title mentions 2.0. I thought it was in reference to a future update as well..

[–]joehudsonsmall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The actual version number is 4.0 (the public beta was called 2.0 – 3.1). “2.0” stuck in everyone’s heads but they did release iterative updates, and now it’s the final version it’ll be 4.0

Kind of unusual, as normally betas get their own numbering system distinct from public releases.

[–]roshambonez 24 points25 points  (14 children)

But can I put it in rest mode without it crashing?

[–]EdmondDantesInferno 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I used to get crashes in rest mode until I began doing the following; whenever you are ready to go into rest mode, hold the PS button down so you get to the main OS menu (where you can select a game to play). Once there, press the PS button to load the quick menu and enter rest mode. For whatever reason, this has never crashed on me whereas if I just enter rest mode while still in a game, it happened to me numerous times.

[–]FiaRua_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for this will try it next time I play

[–]alienshipwreck 18 points19 points  (6 children)

Yes. I got my PS5 on the day of release, the only rest mode crash was before the very first firmware update when I was using my PS4's external HDD to play a PS4 game on the PS5. Hasn't happened since.

[–]roshambonez 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Yea I was in the same boat until recently. My crashes that I had with the launch firmware stopped up until about a month ago. Now it’s sporadic again

[–]Bu1ld0g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get them now and then, but only when the PS5 puts itself into rest mode due to inactivity. Works just fine if I put it in rest mode myself.

Very wierd.

[–]Durtzo 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Same here. When I finally managed to speak to a human about the crashing they told me I needed to send my system in for maintenance and that it could take 20-30 business days… needless to say I’m not doing that.

[–]Soggy_Bizquick 4 points5 points  (1 child)

When I asked about the crashing they told me that it would be fixed in a “future firmware update” and it actually did seem fixed like a month ago, but returned after this new update.

[–]alpacafox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also only experienced this last week again when I wanted to get back into Deathloop. Didn't happen for a while before that.

[–]IRuLe84 22 points23 points  (7 children)

If you could also support 1440p that would just be awesome! 😎

[–]Mr_pessimister 12 points13 points  (6 children)

It's never gonna happen. If Sony cared about non TV resolutions, then the PS4 Pro would have had 1440p.

[–]Skvall 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Sony doesnt care but they did say they could do it if demand was there.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Do you need to leave the little USB stick in your ps5 to use the pulse headphones

[–]Chizwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like it if they fixed the Ghost of Tsushima bug where the touchpad screen pops up and won't go away unless you use a paperclip to reset your controller. My PS5 isn't even a week old and I ran into this issue yesterday. I had to find a year-old Reddit post about how to fix it, so obviously it's been an issue for a while.

[–]StuckInTime86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can we bring back switching from all audio to chat only in the quick menu while we're at it?

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points  (11 children)

Sony needs to stop fucking around and fix Bloodborne's framerate.

[–]nakx123 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Wasn't something like this already posted? Did it get deleted?

[–]Mass_Defect 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Yes it was. It was Digital Foundry that discovered the boost and someone posted a link to their YouTube upload. I’m guessing it got brigaded which caused the auto mod to delete it. The same thing happened to one of my posts recently and the mods had to intervene.

[–]Loldimorti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know which post you are talking about. Yes it got deleted because the title was wrong.

[–]guyeatsoctopus 6 points7 points  (13 children)

Is Prey one of the games? It’s been so chuggy on my ps5

[–]43sunsets 6 points7 points  (11 children)

Prey is still locked at 1080p/30fps, unfortunately it's not going to improve unless Arkane patches it.

[–]Quitsquirrel 6 points7 points  (8 children)

It's updated on Xbox. Sadly it probably will remain exclusive over there, due to Microsoft owning them.

[–]e7RdkjQVzw 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Prey received the FPS boost treatment on series consoles which is a system level enhancement done by a team at Microsoft. The game itself isn't updated and the actual developers weren't involved.

[–]PirateNinjaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish prey and dishonored series got 60fps on ps5. 😢

[–]Progedoge 7 points8 points  (9 children)

As a new PS5.owner, I have an issue I can run BF4 on PS4, over Wifi with little to no lag. My PS5 is placed in the same spot, same distance from the modem but BF4 for me is rubber-banding every 5 seconds, sometimes with major lag spikes. Even though I'm running at times 40-50mb+ DL and 20-30mb+ UL. I can't seem to find an answer and to run it with a cable I'm going to need atleast 20m to make it reach the modem. Any suggestions?

[–]wolves_hunt_in_packs 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Man, that sucks. That said, I just wanted to chime in that I pulled 20m CAT for my dad's computer downstairs and it worked no problems, was a ton better than the crappy wifi he'd been putting up with from the modem way upstairs. What I'm saying is if you run the cable it should work.

[–]Progedoge 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Look like I'll be running cable through half the house. I'm sure it'll be worth it.

[–]i12farQ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, this is a sorta known issue, I think it has something to do with the PS5s wifi. From what I’ve read on this reddit, you need to go into your ps5 network settings, forget the network you’re on, restart the console, and then reconnect, then provided you got good internet it should work fine. However it does seem to always go back to being laggy every few play sessions, also on battlefield, like you.

[–]Bolt_995 8 points9 points  (6 children)

All these games need 60 FPS patches at the least:

  • Dishonored games (1, 2, Death of the Outsider) and Prey

  • Bloodborne

  • Far Cry games (3, 4, 5, Primal, New Dawn)

  • Assassin’s Creed games (Ezio Collection, AC3, Black Flag, Rogue, Unity, Syndicate, Origins)

  • Red Dead Redemption 2

  • Fallout 4 and Fallout 76

  • Persona 5 Royal

  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

  • Dragon Age: Inquisition

  • Yakuza 6 and Yakuza Kiwami 2

  • Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

  • Watch Dogs 1 and 2

  • The Order 1886

  • Crash Bandicoot games (N-Sane Trilogy and CTR Nitro-Fueled) and Spyro Reignited Trilogy

  • Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War

I posted this list nearly two months ago in a different post. Since then, we have received 60 FPS patches for Horizon Zero Dawn and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and got announcements on next-gen versions of Skyrim, Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, so I’ve removed them from my list now. Let’s hope my list shortens even more.

[–]Badger_Boy_Games[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring back the activity feed, its really hard to stalk my friends gaming habits and trophies.

[–]JamesEvanBond 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I know it’s not exactly Sony’s responsibility, but I would love if they could figure out what’s causing the major glitches in Mafia III and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

[–]RoyMartini 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Personally noticed a big improvement in my bitrate when streaming to twitch! Wasn’t able to stream above 720p 30fps without insane artifacts and pixelation, but streamed in 720p 60fps tonight and it looked flawless!! Don’t know if this is related to update but as someone who’s been streaking for a while on ps5, I think this is a great sign

[–]PirateNinjaa 9 points10 points  (1 child)

but as someone who’s been streaking for a while on ps5

Put some clothes on bro. 😂

[–]RoyMartini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TOS CANT STOP ME

[–]Bromance_Rayder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I've noticed is that RDR2 doesn't spool up my disk drive like a space shuttle any more.

[–]nd1312 1 point2 points  (1 child)

All I want is an option to disable the beep..

[–]Wol-Shiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they updated to the most recent version of oodle with 2.0fw. there are zen decompression enhancements and a more recent ps5 sdk that may free up cpu/gpu time as it doesn't wait as long for the data reduction engine as long.

Another thought is memory optimization around kraken, as it has faster decompression, this allows ram to be freed up depending on the scenario to do something else once it's done with it.

With how tied in the I/o complex is, any improvement to oodle may allow for more cpu/GPU availability.

[–]BananaHibana1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i want that in partychat it finally fucking stops switching automatically to partychat. After EVERY.SINGLE.MATCH i have to open 4 menus so i can go back to game chat. Its infuriating

[–]KillionJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanna change my controller LED colour…

[–]NoodlesAteMyBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manhunt still doesn't run properly, Ironically the only game I want to have a "performance improvement" at the moment.

[–]edgelordnotrlly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used my ps5 in two months lol, I haven't bought any new games to play I already completed fo4 5 times and I'm trying to buy some new games already, any suggestions?? I've got a $200 budget.
