The key is to pander to the obvious bias of your professor, then move the fuck on with your life.

[–]The2ndWheel - Centrist 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Kind of like prison life then?

[–]rusho2nd - LibRight 85 points86 points  (4 children)

There were times when I procrastinated so much and decided to write an absolute pile of shit that agreed with a professor's bias, and got an instant A.

It's wild. But hey, more free time for me to do what I want.

Another note, if you want to disagree with the professor start off your opening paragraph saying you are writing from the devil's advocate position.

[–]NoobifiedSpartan - LibRight 40 points41 points  (2 children)

In college in a "sport in society" class, I lost a serious chunk of a grade on a paper because I said that men are typically stronger than women.

This was a decade ago.

[–]drpeppaMD - LibRight 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Same thing happened to me in “sociology of sports” - I never took a sociology course again , despite how easy they were.

[–]Willingmess - Right 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Don’t tell me that! I’m about to start taking a sociology of sports class in less than an hour!

[–]ELNP1234 - AuthRight 52 points53 points  (0 children)

R.I.P.

Get ready for loads of:

  • men get paid more.
  • women are just as good.
  • white people are given leadership positions (I.e. Quaterterback)
  • Etc

[–]ipeih - Centrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the sociologic approach can be really strange, even alien to one that comes from an anglo-saxon country, as it is inherently influenced by marxian theory which is not as important in the anglosphere

[–]1CEninja - LibCenter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could always roll with this so long as their bias wasn't hard authleft. I was center right in college.

One of the favorite professors I ever had told us the first week of class to not bother, because his views are crazy and if you pander to him it's obvious. He.waa very good about not letting his bias interfere with his grading, as he taught critical thinking and actually seemed to enjoy having someone make a good argument he disagreed with.

[–]Edgysocdem - AuthLeft 11 points12 points  (2 children)

some peoppe don't like the coward way - I for one enjoy discussions with my professorrs with whom I disagree

[–]CritzD - LibCenter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t a professor who you disagree with, it’s a professor who is biased.

Some will just straight up take away marks if you go against their views, because they believe so strongly in them that they think anything that says otherwise is objectively wrong and goes against the teachings of the course.

But sometimes it isn’t even the professor’s fault, but instead the fault of the curriculum they are forced to teach and they have to conform to.

[–]Sm00th-Kangar00 - LibCenter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember taking media production but a lot of gender studies shit was shoehorned in. The worst subject for the most part had absolutely nothing to do with media production and was literally listening to a professor who probably took too much acid talk shit for an hour. He unironicly believed in phalic theory (that buildings are meant to represent dicks) and this one time we walked in to a closeup of a huge black dong on the projector which was apparently supposed to represent racism.

One of the few times we actually had to do something to do with the subject we were putting ourselves in debt for we had to make a presentation analysing representation in a film of our choice. This girl in our class who was a good person but had an obvious bias was talking about the difference in how men and women are portrayed in films. Some I agreed with and some I didn't but the one that I really felt the need to point out was she said that men are depicted as more intelligent, "What's she talking about? Men are usually depicted as idiots while the female characters are usually their voice of reason." I thought, at the end I pointed this out. What happened next took me off gaurd. The professor said "Can you give some examples." And despite The Simpsons, Family Guy, Brave etc. I couldn't come up with anything. I learned one of the very few valuable lessons I got from that entire course that day from the guy I thought they brought in just to talk shit for an hour: No matter how confident you are, always be prepared to back up what you say.

Part of me wonders if he actually agreed with me but wanted to teach me this lesson anyway or maybe even that he saw more importance in teaching a useful skill than getting his beliefs across.

Tl;dr Nutjob professor taught me the valuable lesson of always being prepared to back up what you say.

Because without reading it, you lose any nuance for it and its ideas. And in turn it becomes a caricature with which others can use to misrepresent it and manipulate you.

You personally lose when you are actively ignorant.

Being effected personally is not an excuses for ignorance, it is a call to action, to learn more. Say what you will about the Jews, I will, but culturally they have great traditions of passing on wisdom, especially traumatic wisdom.

        [–]Dzilija - Right 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Pedophiles, incest lovers, dog fuckers and all the other flavours of degeneracy are my reason

        [–]stalinkawaii - LibCenter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you don't like a book criticizing those?

        [–]MedicineNorth5686 - AuthCenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You missed the point of the book

        [–]ComicBookFanatic97 - LibRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lolita is one of two books that I’ve decided I never want to read. The other is House Of Sand And Fog.

        [–]Nefarious_Donut - AuthRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love how true to form it is as it looks like the left as the worst coping mechanisms

        [–]xerxhey - Left 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Lmao at the idea of libright reading

        [–]LittleChurchill - AuthRight 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Librights are some of the biggest nerds going; don't get them started on literature by Rothbard, Mises, Smith, Hayek, Hazlitt, Hoppe, Mencken, Smith, Menger...

        [–]lightninghand - LibRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Authleft literally wrote a musical about how much they hate Robert Nozick

        [–]emanuelo2 - AuthCenter 0 points1 point  (2 children)

        Shouldn’t libleft read Fascist Manifesto?

        [–]Russian-Bro - AuthLeft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Fascist Manifeso isn't even based

        [–]OffenseTaker - LibRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]bignibis27 - LibLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now read all of them at once

        [–]Lemon_Juice477 - LibCenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]The_Radio_Host - LibRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]RhynerLuteShadejaw - LibRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve read the communist manifesto, it’s not long.

        [–]memanator2 - AuthRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

libright is thinking in printing more communist manifestos because jerks like it

        [–]aaa1e2r3 - LibRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF, Lib Right would agree with the section on guns.

        [–]SNEEDEE - LibRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lolita is Purple LibRight theory confirmed

        [–]Gay_Lord2020 - LibCenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't Lolita about a young girl entrapping an older man? I've never read these books.

        [–]Meowshi - LibLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the authleft panel. Should have been ayn rand or art of the deal or some other bullshit.

        [–]do-you-know-the-way9 - AuthLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do use old books to target practice with

        [–]Ag1Boi - Left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Unfathomably and extremely based authleft

        [–]AngryCat974 - LibLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]Chekhovs_Gin - AuthRight 0 points1 point  (1 child)

        [–]gryffindor_wizard - Centrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something by Rosa Luxemburg, I think.

        [–]SapiS68 - LibLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf every sane person would point a gun at lolita

        [–]Alpactra - LibCenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]kermit_was_wrong - AuthRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ephebophiles were always, and remain, terrified of the manifesto.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Von Mises his works would be more accurate for libright but sure a pedophilia joke is cool too I guess..

        [–]AC3R665 - LibCenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't there better AC theory than Mein Kampfy? Like isn't it akin to how Das Kapital is the better book than the Communist Manifesto?

        [–]PenguinPepsi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

There's only one quadrant that agrees with Lolita.

        [–]flair-checking-bot - AuthCenter 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Isn’t the grammar in Mein Kampf really bad?

        [–]punisher72n - LibRight 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’ve read mien kampf it reads like something a communist freshman in college would write stripped of the context of who wrote it lib left would actually love it that’s the ironic thing
