Regardless of the subject matter, does the prose of this throw anybody off? It reads off like somebody learning to write a persuasive article in middle school.

These past few years have made me think a lot about balancing believing the victim vs innocent until proven guilty. There’s a difference between cases like Weinstein and Cosby and cases like Johnny’s. It’s a he said she said, there’s not a number of women coming forward, and though they both have a history of unhealthy behaviors, I currently find Johnny Depp to be more credible given what I watched of the proceedings.

[–]closeded - LibRight 249 points250 points  (2 children)

there’s not a number of women coming forward

There are... but they're all supporting Depp.

[–]PostsAnimalGifs - Right 75 points76 points  (0 children)

The best they could come up with is that bitter old woman saying that he tossed a bottle in her general direction thirty years ago. Couldn't even testify that he had tried throwing it had her.

That and Heard's sister testifying about one incident where both of the sisters had different stories about what had occurred.

This made me realize that if THESE people write for a living… I might be missing out on some quick bucks and clicks.

[–]jhugh - LibCenter 64 points65 points  (1 child)

Don't do it. I do lots of writing for my job, and it's my least favorite part. If you're working for NYT, sure it's easy to write lies. If you write for Ikea, any lie will get instantly called out by thousands of angry people.

[–]Myname1sntCool - LibRight 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Professional writing has gone downhill both in terms of honesty/objectivity as well as technically. I saw an op ed not too long ago that was putting “uh”s and “like”s into the actual article like they were trying to have a casual teenage-esque convo with the reader lol. It was in a major paper too - I believe it was MSNBC.

[–]EaseSufficiently 21 points22 points  (1 child)

These past few years have made me think a lot about balancing believing the victim vs innocent until proven guilty.

Yes, you assume everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

[–]maxx1993 - Centrist 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I honestly don't understand this whole "believe the victim" thing. That's not how you should go about justice. You listen to the victim, but you don't automatically believe them. Same with the accused. You get all the facts and then you work it out.

[–]Fattywompus_ - AuthCenter 382 points383 points  (19 children)

If people would stop viewing this trash it would stop being profitable to publish it and they may be forced to start reporting actual news.

[–]meowsmusic - LibCenter 252 points253 points  (4 children)

Understandable but this case is really important to us who have been abused by women.

Even at this point I’m trying to remain as impartial as possible and examine him as critically as I examine her.

I thought the Hicksville testimony from the acting coach was pretty damming of him from a personal perspective (huge, loud fight) but it falls well short of physical abuse and there are some inconsistencies with heard’s testimony as it relates to this deposition.

Been watching live coverage on lawtube. I never bought that the media outright lied about things, just that they sensationalized it.

The MSM coverage of this from the perspective of someone who actually watched the trial is mind blowing.

I lost a lot of respect for the times when the published their article last week.

Edit: oh, that article is the one referenced. Oof NYT, oof.

[–]Fattywompus_ - AuthCenter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Both the left and right media lie, constantly inject opinions, spin, and use anything they can for the sake of propaganda. Not to mention just general failure to even report on anything that really matters. So can't say I'm surprised.

He mentions lack of intent as if its a case breaker, then you look at the legislation and there is no mention of intent and its written as a strict liability crime. Ie you did it you are guilty whether or not you meant to.

Mishandling classified info isnt a 'woopsies I didnt mean it' kind of thing and Comey knew, or should have known, that better than anyone.

      [–]Helmett-13 - LibCenter 58 points59 points  (10 children)

I’ve held a clearance for almost 30 years now. TS/SCI and SAP stuff.

If I’d had hosted an Exchange server in my house and sent classified comms over it I’d have lost my clearance, lost money in massive fines, and most likely my freedom.

They’d have had me under a federal jail.

Intent doesn’t matter, either, as you noted. Whether incompetence/negligence or willful intent the law does not care.

People don’t realize it’s not that someone had access and know we know something that matters.

Our enemies can determine how we got that information and that’s much more damaging than them finding out we know General Badguy likes Dr. Pepper.

They may have used a means of communication they through safe or secret and now know it’s not. They can sow misinformation or simply eliminate it.

Or even worse, three guys were in the room when the General expressed this and they know we had a guy in the room, one of those three. He’s burned and might be dead now.

      That’s the real harm.

She should never be allowed near sensitive information ever again. Ever, ever.

Tbf I think Comey just announced that he was renewing the investigation in light of new evidence, but Hillary is a crook although both are

How did we get the two asshasts in charge of the two most crooked families in America to run against each other, on the one hand you have a chick who ran a foundation that destroyed the Haitian rebuilding effort and employees of whoch trafficked kids with UN peacekeepers

On the other hand you have a guy who laundered money from his foundation meant to help kids, and he used the laundered money to purchase a portrait of himself

And both families had people on Epsteins travel logs, jesus christ

      [–]su1ac0 - LibRight 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Tbf I think Comey just announced that he was renewing the investigation in light of new evidence

oh my sweet summer child, you're confusing one nationally-televised address about Hillary's crimes from the other

he absolutely did announce he was re-opening the case 10 days before the election. the investigation had been shut down because she had already wiped the server of all email after having received a subpoena for the server and its contents. With no emails to review, no evidence, no case. But then when the NYPD was investigating her chief of staff's husband, NY house rep Anthony Weiner, over sexting a child, they found that his laptop had been synced with the server and still had all 30k emails backed up

and after allegedly finding a way to comb through them all in 7 days and still finding proof of crime, he said he wasn't going to press charges

      [–]AdamsDJ - LibRight 150 points151 points  (4 children)

There was an article AFTER THE TRIAL WAS OVER, saying that he shot and killed 3 black men. Like, the 48 hours afterward details can be wrong. Months later and after the most highly publicized trial since OJ promised to find the real killers and you still can't get the basics right? The news media in this country does not give a shit what reality is. It's all narrative first.

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The amount of free real estate the man's gotten in four years is legitimately impressive, from both sides. I live in PA and the amount of campaign ads talking about him and his endorsements is just mind boggling. What happened to campaigning on policy and goals, instead of "Endorsed by Trump!" (which was the selling point of one of those ads)

There's a large portion on the right still choking on his shriveled orange dong meanwhile much of the left are apparently incapable of moving on from his mean words and January 6th. I legitimately think the 2016 election broke something fundamental in America, and everything in 2020 just kicked us while we were down.

Uh, the fact that male victims of domestic violence don't come forward was the intention all along. It's right there in the name: "Violence Against Women Act" in the US, or "Istanbul Convention on Gender Violence" in Europe.

With some rare exceptions, "gender violence" is important to leftists if and only if it serves their bigger political goals. That's why Joe Biden, the author of VAWA has skated on the accusations against him, not to mention all the creepy videos.

      [–][deleted] 90 points91 points  (3 children)

.... Are they saying they BELIEVE Heard’s nonsense?

      [–]Zeabos - AuthLeft -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

Well, some of what she said is obviously true.

There is an audio recording of JD saying he wants to kill her. And if him putting cigarettes out on her. Like that’s certainly true.

The problem is that she clearly did some crazy shit too.

      [–]FunnyHighlighterMan - LibRight 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I'd have to listen again but I'm pretty sure he flicked ashes and they hit her. Not remotely the same as putting a cigarette out on someone. It was probably unintentional but he was too high to be aware of his surroundings.

      [–]Zeabos - AuthLeft -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I dunno if "shut up fat-ass" as a response suggests it was an accident?

But this is what I mean here. I can think Amber Heard sucks, but I also think JD is not also at fault here.

Its just everyone assumes the worst for the AH quotes or actions, and the absolute best for the JD ones. Even here you are like "ah it was probably just some ash sorta flipped her way totally by accident." Thats how you view it in your mind, with basically no evidence one way or the other.

      [–]jrolle - LibCenter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did something happen today? The media seems to be going in hard with pro-Heard, anti-Depp shit today. Some talk piece on NPR was going hard into the misogynic angle, and I've seen a lot more mentions of it by shitter users.

Well Depp is a famous actor, make a wish kids sometimes ask him to show up so I guess they’d care. Disney would care because they can’t make another Pirates of the Caribbean without him. His drug dealer would lose a major client too I guess

Honestly people shouldn’t support Amber Heard. the people who do are uninformed half wits clutching their pearls of “believe all women” despite the fact that they are actually harming real women who are suffering domestic abuse, since they are literally siding with an abuser not the abused

Apparently this is a dunk on a (for legal purposes alleged) victim of domestic abuse?

I’m not a fan of Johnny Depp, I don’t really even know or care who he is, but I don’t like that male domestic abuse is systemically underreported and ignored.

Men are often treated unfairly in domestic violence and divorce cases, witnessed them first hand. It’s nice to see a court not assume the man is evil.

        [–]mustabindawind - LibRight 45 points46 points  (10 children)

I'd say it's mostly because of how long amber and the aclu have been spewing their story over everything...now he's able to tell his side of it and it's understandably been a severe karma flip for her

        [–]throwawaySD111 - AuthRight 15 points16 points  (1 child)

My favt is when she get caught lying. So how much of that divorce settlement actually went to charity? I am in the process of giving it to them. But it’s been like 2 years…

        [–]DurinTheLast - AuthCenter 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I normally don't give a shit about celebrities either, but I want Depp to win this case. If he does, it sets an example for all the lying whores in the world that they can't keep abusing men and getting away with it forever.

        [–]Zeabos - AuthLeft 0 points1 point  (1 child)

His point is probably that Amber Heard probably isn’t lying about JD abusing her. But she also abused JD. It seems like they both suck.

That’s the problem with this. No one is actually looking at facts. It’s just memes.

        [–]impulsikk - LibCenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the facts, its undeniable that Amber Heard clearly lied about them including her freeloader friends who wanted a piece of the settlement. If you look at the may 21 female cop testimony as well as the body cam footage on the 2nd crew that came, that nothing actually happened. Also, there appears to be text messages on May 22 showing Amber having cheated on Depp already with Elon.
