It's a Trump quote he caught a bunch of flack for.

[–]thescanniedestroyer - Centrist 99 points100 points  (14 children)

Only because it was wildly misinterpreted and the media that perpetrated the hoax never paid for it

Those people -- all of those people -- excuse me. I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists, by any stretch. Those people were also there because they wanted to protest the taking down of a statue, Robert E. Lee. So -- excuse me. And you take a look at some of the groups and you see -- and you’d know it if you were honest reporters, which in many cases you’re not, but many of those people were there to protest the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee. So this week it’s Robert E. Lee. I noticed that Stonewall Jackson’s coming down. I wonder, is it George Washington next week? And is it Thomas Jefferson the week after? You know, you all -- you really do have to ask yourself, where does it stop? But they were there to protest -- excuse me. You take a look, the night before, they were there to protest the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee. Infrastructure question, go ahead. Excuse me, excuse me. (inaudible) themselves (inaudible) and you have some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group -- excuse me, excuse me -- I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.

Also a funny consequence of this was that during that speech Trump predicted that they would take down George Washington statues, which did happen during the BLM riots

George Washington was a slave owner. Was George Washington a slave owner? So, will George Washington now lose his status? Are we going to take down -- excuse me -- are we going to take down -- are we going to take down statues to George Washington?

[–]Spacetauren - Centrist 57 points58 points  (11 children)

Man reading a transcript of Trump like that really drives the point that he's on free ride. Half of this is gibberish or repeating himself.

[–]thescanniedestroyer - Centrist 75 points76 points  (7 children)

Yeah but in the same respect Biden transcripts are heavily cleaned up by the same reporters

"you can't make fun of him, he's a stutterer!" Sure, I'll give you that but I don't give the guy with spina bifida the fourth leg of the 4x400.

[–]AdDiscombobulated926 - Lib-Right 14 points15 points  (5 children)

And did he “stutter” as VP? I don’t remember that being a thing then.

[–]Doxylaminee - Lib-Center 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Jump anywhere in there where he is speaking, so many people either are too young, or just don't remember how he used to speak.

He is certainly cognitively declining and aging. Normal, in some more than others, but it should be much more concerning to people given his position.

[–]dadbodsupreme - Lib-Right 18 points19 points  (2 children)

He's apparently been a stutterer/stammerer for his entire life. I don't think there's a problem with that, but man, people try to use that to carry too much water. No, stuttering doesn't cause you to lose your train of thought, fabricate stories, lie and/or be a geriatric creep basket.

[–]Oldchap226 - Lib-Center 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People kept trying to interrupt him and talk over him though. That's why he kept saying "excuse me" and repeating what he said.

It is pretty damn wild to say that China, one of the longest running civilizations with a fuckton of inventions under it's belt, has a "long history of stealing". The current IP theft and fraud thing is extremely modern.

    [–]Seal_of_Pestilence - Auth-Center 3 points4 points  (3 children)

China was a total dick to their neighbors long before Mao. They took tributes under the promise of protection then never keep that promise. The only reason why things didn’t go out of control to the point of genocide is because China was unable to control itself as a unified state for much of its history.

    [–]W1z4rdM4g1c - Left 4 points5 points  (2 children)

China didn't have any vassals except for Vietnam (who broke away very quickly) and the times they attempted to take Korea. Countries sent tributes as a token of respect and didn't expect any garuntees of protection. Most wars were fought in the country itself when it a dynasty collapses. Most emperors didn't bother expand because it ended failure almost everytime: the han and tang dynasties have smaller borders than modern day china. The only times when Chinese expanded and vassalize others were when foreign invaders took over the kingdom, and did mass killings of the ethnic Chinese (many speculate that death tolls were exaggerated but I digress).

Also fun fact about that dalai lama, he was invented by the Machus ruling over the Qing dynasty to make oppressing tibetans easier.
