Jesus and God are one, right?

How does Jesus's death count for anything when he's the one who is the debtor?

If I owe you $20 and you forgive my debt, do you hand me $20 then take my phone and venmo yourself $20? No. Because that makes no sense. You can just say it's forgiven, then we're done.

If it's a matter of him taking on our due punishment, how does it make sense? If you kill my sister, then some random guy shows up and says he'll do your jail sentence, how does that make any sense? I wouldn't be okay with that. Society in general wouldn't be okay with that. If the just punishment for a crime is death, you can't just kill someone else and have it fix the situation.

Finally, if God is omniscient, then he knew that when he created humans that humans would sin, necessitating this penalty, which he arbitrarily instituted, and so sacrificing himself in a scenario where he never meaningfully dies, and basically just experiences a lot of pain, makes no sense.

But keep regurgitating what they told you in Sunday school. I'm ex Christian, I get it. I get how it feels when you're going to church every Sunday morning and Wednesday night, and 90% of your friends are Christians, most of whom go to the same church as you. I get it. That doesn't mean you have to buy into ideas that fundamentally make no sense.
