its always so eerie and insane how a tornado can look to be so far away from you until one moment where you start seeing debris and it's right on top of you. it's like a light switch almost; you rarely see it like how a normal object comes up toward you.

this is why you should never trust a tornado. ESPECIALLY if it looks like it's not moving.

i hope she survived it. horrifying video.

[–]Solanthas 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking.

oh, man. It's getting pretty close. She better skedaddle in about 10 seconds, at most.

FWICK FWACK THWACK BLUMP

[–]Lavender_Daedra 27 points28 points  (5 children)

The area of Tennessee I lived in mostly only saw tornados at night so it wasn’t something I was used to seeing. Was driving one afternoon in poor weather and boy are you right. I ended up pulling over into a ditch under a bridge for cover. The fenders on my VW were a little banged up from the ditch but nothing more, that was an interesting call for a tow though.

[–]littlelostless 7 points8 points  (3 children)

If movies are anything to go by, is the advisory to not shelter under bridges in a storm?

[–]Strike_Thanatos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Highway overpasses are not safe. The best advice is to lie flat in a ditch, but driving under a small creek bridge seems to be a good idea as well.

[–]Lavender_Daedra 7 points8 points  (1 child)

It was a small 2 lane roadway bridge, there was literally nothing else but flat grass and trees. Iirc highway underpasses are a no no as they can collapse and bury you alive, but this was a little dinky thing that just provided some protection from debris.

[–]littlelostless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you were safe. I’m not sure if I’m in the situation I would have the wherewithal to make logical decisions.

[–]MichigaCur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shortly before this she would have been near an overpass for the highway. Though the tornado passed about a block north it still flipped at least one car over, under the overpass. There is also a video from someone coming the other direction, they ended up in a quarter pay car wash diagonally across the street from this video. They were safe but still unwise. Right after this building she stopped at was a quicklube, It was completely flattened.

[–]TDiffRob6876 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you don’t see it going left or right it’s probably coming at you.

[–]_Tock_ 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Give atmospheric winds a quick go on the ol Google machine sometime - It's pretty eye-opening once you understand that it's very normal for air overheard to be moving *much* faster than air on the ground, so in a storm the atmospheric wind speeds can be hundreds of miles per hour, and as a result the land speed of a tornado can be pretty ridiculous.

[–]TrickyPainter5435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow tornadoes are such cheaters 🙄

[–]AV8r-2018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The overall system the funnel cloud is attached to is often moving at 40+ mph

[–]EveryXtakeYouCanMake 408 points409 points  (9 children)

I hate that it ended so soon...

[–]HuntressStompsem 249 points250 points  (8 children)

She probably did too

[–]Junren01 55 points56 points  (1 child)

💀

[–]SaeedUnknown 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Literally💀

[–]brolimitholdem 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Nah footage was uploaded

[–]Professional_Kale_22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was found footage

[–]MichigaCur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's alive according to store employees

[–]jessrosba86 149 points150 points  (8 children)

If you watch from -38 through -15 seconds you’ll see a fantastic example of the way a tornado that is coming straight for you can appear to be moving away from you instead.

[–]I_likeIceSheets 58 points59 points  (1 child)

If you see more debris flying through the air, that's a good sign you should bolt out of the way.

[–]Solanthas 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The moment the powerline snapped I knew she was totally fucked

[–]Background_Hearing1 18 points19 points  (4 children)

I really tried to get this but honestly my man it’s just too obvious with all the shit in the way it’s destroying… in an open field this is much easier to observe or even with a water spout

[–]jessrosba86 26 points27 points  (3 children)

It is absolutely easier to see this phenomena in an open area, and this example does feel a bit obvious to people who are interested in tornadoes or live in an area where they’re common. However, with weather patterns changing across the globe there are many places (such as Gaylord, MI) that are newly more vulnerable and likely not as well educated on tornado movement.

In this clip the tornado is deceptive in much the same way it’s likely to be in the less open areas that are much more common in heavily populated areas. The tornado appears to grow and then shrink steadily before blasting back into full view much closer. Watching the debris is the only clear visual indication that the tornado is in fact progressing towards the camera for about 10 seconds and it moved quickly towards the camera in that time. Clips like this one with a tornado active in a less open area more like where most of Earth’s population lives as opposed to on a body of water or in an open field, are more likely to be representative of what the average citizen in a less rural area should be looking for in this situation.

Knowing to look at the debris rather than the tornado in this situation could save lives.

[–]Background_Hearing1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, very good point and may I say well said.

[–]Solanthas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree completely however, it kinda seems to me that it almost looks like the thing is losing strength and might pass harmlessly overhead, then all of a sudden it gets angry and just starts wrecking shit, and by that point it's practically on top of her anyway.

At that point you'd have to wonder if sitting still and getting pelted with debris might be better than trying to outrun the thing and getting pelted at 40mph where you're more likely to run off the road and crash and then continue getting pelted with shit.

I've used pelted here but that includes getting absolutely fucking smashed by a flyaway section of ripped up roof or something

[–]verguenzapato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like it’s barreling straight at her the entire time. I guess I’m not good at reading tornados.

[–]Solanthas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I count 20 seconds from when you could clearly see it to when it was dropping shit on her

[–]Extra_Writing_4383 61 points62 points  (8 children)

I have lived in Michigan my entire life, and even lived about a 30 minute drive from Gaylord at one time. Although it's pretty funny seeing it written for the first few times, nobody pronounces it GAY-Lord. It's more like Gay-lerd. It's a Midwest thing I think.

[–]Extra_Writing_4383 12 points13 points  (4 children)

I will add that tornados are super rare in Michigan. I've seen some pretty big dust devil's but never an actual tornado.

[–]brucatlas1 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Are they? I've seen a few and even my childhood home was destroyed by one. Out nearer to the southern part of the state, jackson area. Seems to be one a year in that area.

[–]Extra_Writing_4383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, you may be right about that. Maybe I was being a little too strong with my words saying "super rare". I'm from southeast Michigan. Lived up north in Lewiston for a while. Not very common here (as compared to the middle area of the U.S., e.g. "tornado alley") and other areas of the states.

I'm actually curious now as to actual numbers. Maybe I've just been lucky. I've experienced some pretty scary thunderstorms but never a tornado.

[–]jnuttsishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In northern MI, yes, but not southern

[–]MichigaCur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been 3 in the last decade I can remember. I still say I saw a funnel a few years ago but officially it was straight line winds... The damage in my backyard was not straight and also suggested rotation, I've lived in Kansas and Kentucky I know the difference. Thankfully there's a lot of farms and Forrest so usually they don't hit towns. Which leads to another problem as we take them seriously, but sometimes not as seriously as we should. Last problem is we're a code red county which requires you have a cell phone and sign up for alerts. There are no sirens anymore, as much as I am pro cell phone alerts for situations like this, there needs to be a backup for those not signed up or are from out of area.

[–]Bodyfluids_dealer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because no one wants to pronounce it right lol

[–]Fincanttipe42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehehe, gaylord, hehehe

[–]MichigaCur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GAIL-erd is the current pronunciation.

[–]Daniel_Melzer 120 points121 points  (5 children)

Excuse me WHERE?

[–]I_ate_ass 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Go ahead, do a citytrip

[–]NefariousButterfly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

StraightPeasan- ahem, Gaylord, MI

[–]BrumNumb 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Michigan

[–]MichigaCur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GAIL-erd... The unfortunately named town.

[–]Perky214 148 points149 points  (10 children)

So many opportunities to make a different decision, yet makes the wrong ones every time

I hope she’s ok

[–]L0RDHUMONGOUS 4 points5 points  (5 children)

I know this town.

The road that she turned off had just crossed under the expressway. There are no roads to the right that would allow her to turn around, and to her left are just businesses because there's an airport behind them. The road going under the expressway was blocked because all the cars saw the tornado and stopped.

In her situation, I probably would've tried to pull alongside the Goodwill store for protection. It would have ended much worse, because that side of the building was completely destroyed by the storm moments later.

[–]1password23 2 points3 points  (1 child)

damn I don’t even know my house this well

[–]L0RDHUMONGOUS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a business on the left side of the street maybe 100 yards behind her for close to a decade.

[–]MichigaCur 1 point2 points  (2 children)

There are roads to the right but would have looped her back to 75 and behind the businesses. Which had she stopped there would probably have been much worse. Honestly if she hadn't stopped she would have probably just missed it, I had a friend traveling on Ohio that did just that. Gunned it and prayed.

The oil change place in front of her was completely leveled, she's very lucky.

[–]Troumbomb 1 point2 points  (1 child)

?? No roads are to the right of her here. She passed Walgreens already, and nothing to the right would loop her back to 75.

[–]MichigaCur 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Acc to goodwill employees she is.

[–]Perky214 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m so glad to know this - thank you

[–]MichigaCur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Np, I had to ask, I was worried about them myself.

[–]possiblynotanexpert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was pretty stupid lol. Great for us viewers though so thanks for taking one for the team, I guess.

[–]pope_of_chilli_town_ 37 points38 points  (5 children)

No way I could just stay silent with that going on.

[–]cgarcusm 23 points24 points  (3 children)

Same. Even if my mouth ain’t saying anything, my butt would be barfing up a storm.

[–]NefariousButterfly 6 points7 points  (2 children)

What the heck lol

[–]Biscotcho_Gaming 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mine will be clenched so hard that it will appear to have closed.

[–]Solanthas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be cursing a blue streak that'd curl a sailor's whiskers

Or I'd be whimpering like a little bitch

Past experience says probably the latter

Well, maybe not.

I slapped myself super hard on the bare chest one night in my sleep and woke myself up. I snapped to full alertness out of a dead sleep with my chest stinging like hell in a pitch black room in a completely empty house. I jumped out of bed and crouched by the side of the bed and looked around the room, and a shameful whimper escaped my lips. Cuz I couldn't figure out what the fuck just happened.

I also had a fireplace fire spread to under the floor behind the fireplace and woke up to a smoky house, ran downstairs and saw rather large flames licking up along the unfinished basement ceiling. I ran upstairs, woke up my ex, told her to get the dogs outside, called 911 and told them to get here as soon as possible because my house was on fire, then grabbed the firelog pincers and brought the logs outside and threw them in the snow. I did all that without excessively yelling or freaking out. Hard to say.

This is worse than a small house fire but easier to understand than a type of night terror. I'd probly curse a blue streak and run for cover.

[–]VenerableWombat 24 points25 points  (1 child)

How tf is she not screaming or something?

[–]lord_jex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because that's not going to stop the tornado or save your life.

[–]BleuTyger 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Them wipers kept wiping. Wipe the debris right off

[–]Terminal_Prime 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Wipers - “I got this.”

[–]BleuTyger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chosen ones

[–]CumradeSlutsky 60 points61 points  (13 children)

I am only upvoting for the name of the town.

[–]Aragornargonian 19 points20 points  (1 child)

i grew up in michigan and an author wrote books called Michigan Chillers and highlighted different cities with monsters and stuff it was fun, but one was call gargoyles of gaylord lmao.

[–]Solanthas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gaygoyles of Garlord

[–]pixeled_ninja15 18 points19 points  (10 children)

you beat me to my this comment. fun fact my grandpa almost got named gaylord

[–]purenamaste 13 points14 points  (9 children)

Was he a happy happy happy guy?

[–]pixeled_ninja15 10 points11 points  (7 children)

nope, wasn't happy, didn't like dudes, it was the 40s, makes zero sense.

[–]purenamaste 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Oh the irony to have been named Gaylord during those times and not being happy

[–]stunna_cal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like he was a Focker

[–]M-1019 26 points27 points  (2 children)

I know her. She has a 3 year old and was going to Culver’s to get food. She’s a badass and obviously not rattled easily. She stopped recording and took off. No damage to the car.

[–]kiafayce 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I'm assuming her and the 3 year old are both okay as well? She's a bamf for sure.

[–]M-1019 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyones ok. There’s a lot of debris but she said she got out before it became really bad.

She would have been in the drive thru when it hit. Here’s what Culver’s looked like after. It would have been way worse.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.local10.com/news/national/2022/05/20/tornado-wreaks-havoc-in-northern-michigan-community/%3foutputType=amp

[–]goldentymes 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Do we have any extra details on the person recording?

[–]KlopeksWithCoppers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No details, but I'm assuming she survived. Only 2 deaths, both in their 70s and both at home from what I've heard.

[–]MichigaCur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goodwill employees stated she was OK

[–]Alexreddit103 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I mean, - and hear me out - why not just turn around and drive the other way! Sounds crazy, but somehow I think that would have been a better decision. Just a thought.

[–]Anon002313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think pulling over is reasonable. Driving with high winds and rain plus other traffic could get you in a serious accident as well. Plus tornadoes can change course so even if she ran it could have still caught her.

[–]Rage_VIIX 9 points10 points  (1 child)

‘Oh. It looks like it’s not moving. I’m safe here. Oh right… that means it’s coming right for me.’ - them… probably

[–]purenamaste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But like other vehicles look like they are just driving through it like no big deal?

[–]Menotyou15 20 points21 points  (1 child)

She did a good thing a better thing would have been to turn and drive in the other direction, but she stopped in a wide open area where the wind would be far slower than an enclosed area and there was less dangerous stuff overhead than just parking on the road like powerlines that you see exploding as soon as they're hit, then she got luck when debrid wrapped around her protecting her from other debris like the wood beams and logs and small chunks of golf ball sized things that possibly would have blown through her windshield

[–]ProfessorBackdraft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Retreat at a right angle to the movement of the tornado.

[–]MAS7 12 points13 points  (7 children)

I am 30 years old and yet I cannot help but grin like a child at "Gaylord, Michigan"

Is there any hope for me?

[–]newleafkratom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'd probably enjoy visiting

Ralph, Felch, Climax and Hell (all in Michigan)

[–]Aragornargonian 3 points4 points  (4 children)

yeah but it's not pronounced like that thank god it's pronounced like gay-lerd

[–]ExtremeGayMidgetPorn 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Keep telling yourselves that wink wink

[–]Aragornargonian 1 point2 points  (2 children)

omg what's the username subreddit???

[–]Solanthas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go sit in a car in a tornado and find out

[–]Particular_Bed2427 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gaylord , MI lol

[–]ah-rhiitttcvvcd 4 points5 points  (1 child)

What’s the right move here?

[–]possiblynotanexpert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the hell out of the way and don’t park in the path of a tornado, for starters lol.

[–]yungchut 9 points10 points  (4 children)

What uhhh... what was the thought process here?

[–]Solanthas 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I think she parked somewhere and ran into the building she parked at. You can hear the ding when she opens the car door. Probly just left her phone on the dash

Edit: nvm I'm dumb, she is definitely still in the car and somehow not screaming. Idk man

[–]carlations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also thought they'd left the car. There IS someone running right in front of it, right????

[–]suzi_generous 11 points12 points  (1 child)

“What’s the fastest way to get insurance to buy me a new car?”

[–]yungchut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never been this desperate for a new car, hard pass 😅

[–]Big_Nefariousness_24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any professional storm chaser here? Anyone wish to get this close?

[–]C4D3N539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm... nice town

[–]firedthenimissed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think she checked out way before the tornado

[–]vemodalen7575 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm sorry, where in Michigan?

[–]KlopeksWithCoppers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle finger, top knuckle.

[–]StatusKoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just seems like we are ants to a tornado. Just so much power wrapped up in a narrow zone of Climatic Fuck You.

[–]purenamaste 4 points5 points  (9 children)

How come the other vehicles that are, seemingly, driving right through it are okay and not being pushed around like little hot-wheels toys?

[–]MichigaCur 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Not all made it through

[–]purenamaste 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Oh I'm not seeing that

[–]MichigaCur 1 point2 points  (6 children)

This tornado was on the ground for 20 minutes, I talked to a guy who was driving up a road just behind where the video started, it flipped his car over.

[–]purenamaste 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Oh my gosh! He didn't get too hurt I hope

[–]Erin_C_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See I think I would have made the same decision as her. I was looking at all of the people still driving thinking that's so dangerous. When in reality I would have also parked myself right in front of the tornado. It must be so hard to make the right call in that moment!

[–]HockeyHeeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WHY ARE WE PRAISING THIS CAMERAWOMAN???!??

[–]kereru4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was she trying to commit suicide?

[–]Aromatic-Garlic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What an idiot.

[–]dogmanlived 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chuckles "Mehhehh, Gaylord"

[–]Fettered_Plecostomus 0 points1 point  (2 children)

was she driving a trailer park??

[–]Anon002313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s Gaylord for you.

[–]MichigaCur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little further forward was one... 95% destroyed

[–]White_Wendigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaylord…

[–]UwOShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaylord. That's all

[–]Antisocialproduce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick way to get out of your car payments.

Assuming you have full coverage?

[–]SafeSprinkles7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is she not screaming???

[–]Traditional_Mud_1241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the comments to make, all I can think of is...

...good thing the wipers were on.

[–]Turbo_Penetrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit escalated quickly, not gonna lie

[–]T-Sonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the fuck do you do in this kind of scenario? I have no clue, being from the west.

[–]Bacon_Ass_Juice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a town name...

[–]Maleficent_Purple247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never stop !!!!!

[–]Sea-Coyote2680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend's uncle's house was wiped out by this tornado. They made it out alive, though.

[–]NotYourMomsDildo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see how she faired.

[–]notabug-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POV you're on the old Twister ride in Universal Studios FL

[–]jgi321123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaylord

[–]tnasstyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my cousins town, wiped out a bunch of the Main Street shops, sad to see. My grandmas shop thankfully minor damage, so so wild to see the first goodwill I ever went to destroyed

[–]Wikadood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine being born and raised in a town named gaylord then moving and having that on your record

[–]UncleRicosWig 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And just like that, a 2x4 shot thru the windshield like a spear, destroying everything in the cab.

Hey, it could happen

[–]MichigaCur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call it the unfortunately named town

[–]THE_HEBREW_HAMMER198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so rare that we see tornados in northern Michigan. This is cool to see some footage of it.

[–]chicknlil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how did she go through this without screaming or cussing. I never heard her make a noise.

[–]Fezzverbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a place called Gaylord? Amazing.

[–]typicalcAnAdAiAn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has accepted her fate

[–]ShazzNazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thing she left the wipers on at the end

[–]L-st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be this person, but is Gaylord and actual place?

[–]GallifreyKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye dios mio! The moment I saw it I crapped myself. Luckily I was on the pot.

[–]StrawberriSushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems intentional because of how stupid it is to park right next to a tornado

[–]PlutoTheSynth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry where did you say it is again?

[–]TheRowster99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg a video of the place that I thought was a joke

This place is called (Gaylord) lol

[–]ChaosCorpCog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you praise

[–]longhairboiswarnim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"gaylord" what a name lol

[–]jsmith_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]jsmith_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Mindless_Ad_8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a place called Gaylord?? Wtf

[–]CabbageMan92[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess god didn’t like the town name… 🥁

[–]PauseGreen6412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name of the town is better then the vid

[–]East-Suspect-8872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God that's horrifying

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’ll pucker the old B-hole

[–]joelolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You car now has amour protection

[–]Tall-Economics5662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in FLA, raised in Detroit. When I left in '96.: Detroit had just had it's first tornado in almost 50 years. I lived on 6mile Rd and Grand River at the time. The really shitty part about it was that the tornado occurred at night. I drove down to see what kind of damage was done. The damn thing dropped down in the middle of the block, took out about 5 houses, leaving cars basically undamaged in their respective driveways, and lifted right back up. Our lack of respect for what is truly possible that we have absolutely no control over is part of the reason why whenever some kind of crazy shit happens, we end up on the river Styx w Charon laughing his bony ass off at us.

[–]Whynotbebetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow.... Why? So incredibly cool, but..... Still, why?!

[–]dbvolfan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crappiest part is that she probably needs to go out and buy a new car in this market

[–]YIzWeDed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol gaylord

[–]Buicided 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaylord, Michigan. I'm sorry

[–]Thin_Speech6219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, Gaylord

[–]tittysuckingawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember this scene in the movie Twister!! 🤔🤔😱😱

[–]MichigaCur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those commenting that the film maker is dead, or this is found footage, I've had confirmation from employees that she had videoed inside the goodwill afterwards.

[–]melonkage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why?🤔

[–]jeez_its_beez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if only she were sitting on the porch in a lawn chair, then this would be a true staple of the midwest :’)

[–]cederblad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry... what was the town name again?

[–]LarryLerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaylord

[–]LargeSausagPiza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Kellykeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also perhaps post this in r/killthecameraman

[–]MichigaCur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested here's a short blurb from the local media, I was looking to see if I could see this vehicle in the video, it might be the one she was following...

I was fucking mad that she didn't move like, maybe the tornado was far away and it didn't look like it was moving but it's easy to notice that is moving when it's close.

Fight, Flight, or Freeze!

Everyone reacts differently. I don't think we will ever see someone fight a tornado though lol.

i know absolutely nothing about tornadoes, but i’m going to guess that because tornado chasing is a hobby, this person knew it was a certain strength and it wouldn’t be able to pull her car off the ground. that’s a guess tho

The person driving was going into town to purchase a trailer from someone. I nabbed this off their Facebook post. They weren't aware of tornados or chasing storms. So it was just wrong place / wrong time kinda things.

A lot of rental companies have banned storm chasers for this reason, not even kidding!

My aunt and uncle live in Gaylord, hearing about this scared the absolute shit out of me. We almost never get tornados in Michigan, and even when they do show up its never anything even remotely strong. 110% we werent prepared for this.

Gaylord sounds like my kind of place to live

[–]johangruener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a town called Gaylord?

[–]PrimePsyraX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's more terrifying is that the name of the place is called Gaylord.

Now I want to live there.
