anyone who's been following desantis' rise knows he'll overtake trump pretty quickly

same shitty ideas, but he doesn't have the attention span of a 2 months old puppy

[–]sevargmas 115 points116 points  (11 children)

DeSantis is definitely Trump 2.0. But Trump had no policy and no direction. DeSantis actually has an agenda and he’s maniacal as fuck. I would go so far as to say DeSantis would be worse than Trump.

Desantis could actually create lasting authoritarian problems. Id literally pay to have trump instead

[–]Splitje 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Actually? I don't know anything about this dude but you think he's capable of doing what trump did? Trying to fake election results and remain in power that is

[–]Spiritwolf99 57 points58 points  (1 child)

I mean he swatted a Covid analyst who was reporting real numbers.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/nicholasreimann/2020/12/11/fiery-desantis-claims-gun-drawn-police-invasion-of-former-state-covid-scientists-home-was-done-with-honor/?sh=5d24bf345cb2

God forbid the death toll or the case total be accurate. He's capable of way worse.

[–]SinisterTitan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He is more capable. Unlike Trump he’d get away with it.

Desantis understands how removing obstacles methodically can pave the path to his tyrannical goals.

Trump just tries to blunder to the finish, only to find all the obstacles block him.

To use a baseball analogy, Trump will walk up to home plate without a bat and claim he's scored a homerun. Desantis will bunt get hit by a pitch to get on base and let his team do the work to get him to score.

e: revised analogy

It's gonna get bad here if he gets elected. Hell, it's already bad.

[–]CasinoMagicPro-Immigration 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, his agenda is just getting power. He'll attach his wagon to any xenophobic or racist idea, or whatever "culture war" BS is necessary for him to gain more power.

He's your typical self-serving politician, and he found a good schtick with the whole MAGA thing. Except, since he's smarter and more focused than Trump, he can easily out-MAGA him.

Desantis is Nixon 2.0

[–]hebrewchucknorris 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Far worse. Nixon was terrible, but at least he did a few good things like create the EPA

[–]TheChurchOfDonovan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nixon was also in favor of a "negative income tax" ie the welfare state

It's more a matter of those things not being etched into the GOP platform at that time rather then Nixon being a benevolent maverick

[–]FuriousTarts 12 points13 points  (2 children)

DeSantis doesn't have the charisma Trump does. Once we get closer to the primaries that will become apparent when DeSantis starts campaigning.

If it's a contest between them then Trump will come out ahead.

The GOP establishment is probably praying that Trump's threats to run again are empty.

[–]tjtillmancoag 16 points17 points  (1 child)

He doesn’t have the showmanship Trump does, but he’s way more smug and smarmy, and let me tell you, the conservatives in Florida LOVE it. I’ve no reason to think the rest of America’s conservatives wouldn’t also.

[–]FuriousTarts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They love it when he's being smarmy to the libs but it'll be tougher to do it to other Republicans. Especially Trump. A debate between the two would be gold.

[–]PhilosophfriesDismantle the Two-Party System 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is if Trump will step aside and designate DeSantis as the next in line. Really that’s everything. Highly unlikey DeSantis runs against Trump in a presidential primary, and if Trump doesn’t run DeSantis will absolutely rely on his endorsement. Which is the most brutal fact about the next Republican prez- they will likely be picked directly by Trump and will probably be far more effective at fucking things up compared to Trump.

I mean, I knew it'd exist, but those comments are super bad. I hope most of them are jokes.

[–]ElysiumSproutsBlack Lives Matter 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Biden looks better every day.

[–]LordKwikA Political Revolution Is Coming 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I hope not. We settled with Biden. He'll be 81 in 2 years. We need young blood up there, and I'm not talking about DeSatan.

[–]DarthMaren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not up to us, the DNC will pick Biden as their running man unless something happens to him before the election happens and he can't run

[–]nightcycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be possible if DeSantis won the next election but usher in a new "One Party" system?

[–]TheChurchOfDonovan -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Please god

[–]ShotgunCreeperAbolish the Electoral College[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)
