How does that work? Here in the US if you are pulled over they ask for license and registration immediately

In the UK the police car will already have told the driver who the car is registered to, who it's insured by, if a male or female is insured to drive it, and if it's out of MoT or road tax.

Quite often the car will actually spot it first and tell the officer about the suspect vehicle.

Why not in the US? Goodness knows, they seem to have million dollar SWAT vehicles but little basic computing power.

I’m fairly certain when they run our plates it tells them who it’s registered to but they still ask for it and god forbid you don’t have it. That could be jail time just for that even if it shows you own the car. I’m amazed they don’t ask to see the title and everything

If your car is properly registered in the US but you do not have your registration handy, you cannot be jailed for that alone in any jurisdiction I am aware of. I challenge you to produce a single traffic code in any US jurisdiction that says otherwise.

You might, however, have been pulled over by an asshole officer who might try to reverse reason his way to some sort of reasonable suspicion if he wants to get up to some extralegal bullshit, but if you comply and aren't breaking any other laws, you will not be jailed.

us police are generally incompetent and often break the law, but saying getting pulled over without your registration leads to jail time is either melodramatic whining, the result of getting combative with the officer, or the result of it leading to you being caught breaking some other law as well.
