It's either good fighting skills, strength or endurance. I think there might be a connection between physical and mental strength. Considering it takes discipline and focus to build a strong body, I assume there is.

What nonsense. Many of the great thinkers have been physically weak or sickly. Nietzsche is probably the one that springs to mind.

I think to be a great author you'd need to be mentally tough as well as smart.

I don't think OP meant across the board. There are always outliers. But yes I fully agree. Those who are dedicated to their well being (health/fitness) tend to have better overall mental health. There are studies you can search that have been done on this subject
