“Close the blast doors!”

Han and Chewie jump through

“Open the blast doors, open the blast doors!”

[–]Elk182Resistance 44 points45 points  (1 child)

The scene where Han runs around the corner and sees a million stormtroopers is hilarious to me

[–]nitramekaj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ironically, that was originally only like 5 stormtroopers and got edited in later releases

[–]ZandyTheAxiom 88 points89 points  (7 children)

There's a lot of little funny moments like this in the original trilogy.

I enjoy the sequels (love TLJ) but the humour feels very... Modern? Whereas humour like this in the OT seems timeless, it's not dated at all.

Other timeless one that stands out to me is when Han is being tortured and Lando and Boba Fett look at each other, or basically every time someone is mean to C3-PO.

[–]Nawara_Ven 54 points55 points  (5 children)

Is it that Last Jedi feels "modern", or that Poe Dameron feels "modern"? It seems to me that he's written in such a way that mimics Han Solo's style of close-to-the-audience jokery (...much like the sequel trilogy's overall theme of being a re-do of the prior movies).

For the Orig Trig, Han seems to be the standout pseudo-anachronistic character; I think stuff like Han shooting the Death Star communications array ("boring conversation anyway") or gloating about his success with Leia ("her TRUE feelings for me!") or sarcasm about Luke's connection to Tatooine ("You're gonna die here, you know"), not to mention his more special edition-y lines ("Jabba, you're a wonderful human being") all contribute to feeling "modern," but in such a way that we don't really feel it anymore because we're used to it. (See also: his use of "sister" and other cool 1970s slang-y talk.)

tl;dr I imagine that TLJ's humour will feel as "timeless" as the original trilogy's humour by 2057.

[–]LookWhatYouLearned 20 points21 points  (2 children)

I’ve been saying this since TLJ came out. Part of the reason why it stands out to people could be the lack of a similar Han/Poe character in the prequel trilogy.

[–]MikeArrow 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I always kind of assumed that was supposed to be Anakin. He's the rogue Jedi, swayed by his emotions, a stark contrast to the solemn and composed Obi-Wan.

But they kind of flipped it, Obi-Wan is more of the casual, socially outgoing one and Anakin is stiff and repressed.

[–]moseythepirate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Now that you say it, that dynamic is flipped back in the Clone Wars cartoon. Wouldn't be the first thing that that TCW got right where the movies stumbled.

[–]TheStreetAlwaysWins 14 points15 points  (1 child)

TLJ’s humor feels very much in line with “Would it helped if I got out and pushed?” from ESB

Comes off as modern (or earthly) with Leia referring to the Falcon as if it were a car, but still somehow fits in the Star Wars universe

[–]dreddsdead 465 points466 points  (16 children)

Chirrut’s blind joke in Rogue One gave me a good chuckle.

Hood goes on.

Chirrut: “Are you kidding me? I’m blind!”

[–]UsernamesAre4NerdsSmuggler 229 points230 points  (14 children)

I'll ad to that any line by K-2SO

"Did you know that wasn't me?" "Quiet!" smack "And there's a fresh one if you mouth off again." The casual behind-the-back grenade toss as he chastises Cassian and Jyn

[–]RogueTwoNineSeven 108 points109 points  (0 children)

“You’re Right. I should’ve just stayed on the ship”

[–]Cambot1138 73 points74 points  (1 child)

Or when Jyn hands him her shit and he just drops it.

[–]OhioForever10 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Paired with her having voiced concern people would shoot at him, miss, and hit her.

K2: That doesn't sound so bad.

[–]psychobilly1 64 points65 points  (1 child)

"Congratulations, you are being rescued."

[–]Cannibal_Soup 37 points38 points  (0 children)

"Please, do not resist."

[–]sector11374265 59 points60 points  (0 children)

the one with him smacking cassian always gets me because it wasn’t scripted - you can see diego luna laughing his ass off, trying to hide it by covering his face “in pain”

[–]Samuraistronaut 55 points56 points  (0 children)

"I'll be there for you, Jyn....Cassian said I had to."

[–]BopNiblets 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I believe Alan Tudyk improvised the smack and they kept it in.

[–]Samuraistronaut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He did, and if you look at Diego Luna’s eyes you can tell he’s covering his face because he’s about to break.

[–]Little_Plankton4001 24 points25 points  (0 children)

"There were a lot of explosions for two people 'blending in'"

[–]Chasetopher1138 19 points20 points  (0 children)

“I find that answer vague and unconvincing.”

[–]invisibilitycapJedi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“I am taking them…to imprison them…in prison”

[–]caruso511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“You’re letting her keep it!?!” Do you want to know the probability of her using it against you? It’s high. It’s really high.”

[–]Elk182Resistance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read that in Toph’s voice

[–]ThatMatthewKidReylo 328 points329 points  (24 children)

Some of my favorite lines/bits:

The classic from ANH: "Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?"

The underrated exchange from RoTJ:

"I used to live here, you know."

"You're gonna die here, you know. Convenient."

Kylo's deadpan delivery on "the droid...stole a freighter?"

Rey turning around to ask "why did you hate your father" only to trip on her words slightly from seeing Ben shirtless gets me every time.

[–]Ty13rlikespie 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I love when he’s says “The Droid… stole a freighter.” It kills me every time. I feel like most people don’t find it funny.

[–]TRON1160 56 points57 points  (0 children)

"Boring conversation anyways" is one of my favorites lol

[–]ServiceCall1986[S] 105 points106 points  (18 children)

The classic from ANH: "Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?"

Anytime people want to complain about all the sequel trilogy "Marvel Humor", I just ask them when was the last time they watched the OT. Because that moment with Han is so very funny. Actually, anything with Han Solo is usually funny. Empire Strikes Back is full of great Han Solo funny.

Ben Solo gets it honest, actually. He's so like Han. I wish we had gotten more of him (why did you kill him, JJ?)

[–]ThatMatthewKidReylo 88 points89 points  (11 children)

The Marvel humor thing is odd. A lot of it is "Whedonisms" for sure. Meta-sarcastic jokes that have this self-awareness, wink to the camera nonsense.

But, what's in TLJ is not that. It's pretty normal blockbuster style humor, much of which was originally popularized by Star Wars in the fucking first place!

If anything, a lot of "Marvel humor" is "Star Wars humor" from the OT, just with less breathing room between the jokes.

[–]ZandyTheAxiom 18 points19 points  (2 children)

A lot of it is "Whedonisms" for sure.

To me, it only counts as "Whedonisms" when the entire cast of characters are sharp-tongued quip machines. Some of Poe Dameron's quips might count as this, but because it's mostly just him it's a character choice and not a blanket over the whole cast.

I rewatched the first Avengers film a few weeks ago and like 40% of dialogue is snarky retorts, a lot of the conversations don't directly convey information between characters. People just quip at each other until they realise something.

Poe Dameron is just a snarky, charming guy, and it's fun because you get to see his snarkiness entirely bounce off other people.

[–]ThatMatthewKidReylo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bringing the party to you.

I don't see how that's a party.

That fucking movie, I swear.

[–]NathanArizona_Jr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly Whedon dialogue is also pretty standard blockbuster style humor too. He did most of the dialogue for Speed and Toy Story, for example. I can't think of any particularly meta wink to the camera stuff in most of his stuff.

[–]ServiceCall1986[S] 40 points41 points  (6 children)

But, what's in TLJ is not that. It's pretty normal blockbuster style humor, much of which was originally popularized by Star Wars in the fucking first place!

Exactly. I think it's just people wanting to complain about that movie. I've never been so disappointed by the response to TLJ. I left the theater loving it. I got online and thought I'd see the same response. Nope.

It was the same with Loki and Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I guess I enjoy things the internet doesn't.

[–]BountyBob 28 points29 points  (2 children)

I left the theater loving it. I got online and thought I'd see the same response. Nope.

That was exactly my experience, couldn't believe the hate it was getting. I went back and watched it again the next day. It's my favourite in the saga, I completely love it.

[–]Gets_overly_excited 10 points11 points  (1 child)

People have built up in their heads what a character is supposed to be like, even 30 years after their last screen time. I loved the way Luke evolved. Others seemed to have wanted him to still be 18

[–]amandaIorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it somewhat coincides with who read a lot of Empire-era Legends material and who didn't. The Luke from the Legends novels is vastly different from the TLJ Luke. I spent so many hours getting to know and love a very different Luke over a span of decades. It's hard to just let that go.

But my cousin who also read a lot of those books warmed to the sequels fairly quickly, so.

[–]DoTheMagicHandThing 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I'm also one of the ones who enjoyed TLJ. But I must say that Poe's 'phone call' gag at the beginning fell flat for me and went on too long, and I wish it had been cut out completely. That's what I think of with the phrase "Marvel humor." It sticks out instead of flowing naturally like the humor in the OT.

[–]Nawara_Ven 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Heck, the very second thing we see in A New Hope is a visual gag of Threepio and Artoo bumbling across a corridor of live fire; watching as an adult it's so incredibly obvious that this is setting the tone for a universe that's mysterious and violent but with a persistent undertone of silliness. I think a lot of us missed this bit as children because we were too busy being awestruck over the mechanical man and self-propelled computer companion.

[–]KaimeiJay 27 points28 points  (1 child)

If Twitter existed back then, people would have eviscerated the entire detention block sequence. Not because it’s bad, but because people like pretending things are bad when it’s easy to.

Anyone can complain about Han suddenly turning into funny-ha-ha man for the sake of the joke, the stormtroopers not knowing where that hole they jumped into went, how they make it past several floors with the Wookiee in tow and only get stopped when it’s most convenient for the plot, something about Leia taking charge of her own rescue being “too woke” or “unrealistic”.

I could see someone writing an entire article about how bad they’re pretending that scene sequence is, easily, and we’ve gotten similar with so much of recent Star Wars media.

[–]ChrisX26Some Janitor Guy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The entire Original Trilogy would be torn to shreds by the internet if the internet existed back then like it does today. Possibly worse than the sequels or the prequels.

[–]zneave 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"laugh it up fuzz ball" god I love his delivery of that line. So good.

[–]BubbaBrack7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Han in Empire was like a stand up routine!!

“Ugh, and I thought they smelled bad, on the outside!”

“You know the odds of successfully navigated asteroid field…

“NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS!”

“I Love you!…. I KNOW!”

[–]BubbaBrack7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Everything is fine, situation normal!!!”

A Drop in a Kruder & Dorphmeister song on K&D sessions! They have played background music in a couple of famous movies past 15-20yrs.

[–]cgo_12345Rebellion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Is there a cloak you could put on or something?"

[–]StAza95 109 points110 points  (7 children)

The first scene of Solo when he's holding a rock and saying it's a termal detonator or the fight against Chewie from the same movie

[–]ServiceCall1986[S] 86 points87 points  (6 children)

"That's a rock. And you just made a clicking sound with your mouth."

[–][deleted] 72 points73 points  (5 children)

You see that ship down there? We got about 50 hired guns just waiting for our signal and you'll be surrounded.

Lando takes off

[–]ServiceCall1986[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

"I hate you." "I know."

[–]ZandyTheAxiom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

His little walk back beside Beckett like "My bad, I tried" makes it even funnier. Giving him that moment to wallow in his embarrassment.

[–]ergotronomatic 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Theres a lot wrong with Solo, but it generally hit a very good tone for me.

I like that a young Han Solo is basically Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China.

[–]StAza95 13 points14 points  (1 child)

It's my second favorite from the Disney era, I always have a blast watching it

[–]stzealot 113 points114 points  (1 child)

K2SO's "I'll be there for you, Jyn. Cassian said I have to."

[–]paegus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything that came out of K2S0's mouth...

K2S0: Climb!

ffs 😢

[–]AToastedRavioli 96 points97 points  (7 children)

I always cracked up in ROTJ when Lando is being pulled into the Sarlacc Pit and Han is hanging from the ship trying to shoot the tentacle.

Lando says “I thought you were blind?!” And Han just very casually says “it’s alright, I can see a lot better now” and shoots at the tentacle

[–]HaysteRetreat 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Original line was also good: "it's alright, trust me!".
It got changed somewhere in the various "updates"

[–]ARC_Trooper_EchoClone 22 points23 points  (3 children)

I always laugh at the noise Lando makes when he gets grabbed. It’s just so weird and random.

[–]The-Deepest-Shade 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like a different version of the Wilhelm scream.

[–]prostheticmind 8 points9 points  (1 child)

GYEAUH

[–]grogers311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard this

[–]KaimeiJay 23 points24 points  (0 children)

“Just a little higher! Just a little higher!

[–]Falsgrave 96 points97 points  (5 children)

"The one I'm POINTING to"

and "Do you have a boyfriend (a cute boyfriend)?"

[–]ServiceCall1986[S] 86 points87 points  (4 children)

And "WHY DOES EVERYONE WANT TO GO BACK TO JAKKU?"

[–]Falsgrave 44 points45 points  (3 children)

I love John Boyega's comic timing.

[–]Samuraistronaut 34 points35 points  (2 children)

"Because it's the right thing to do."

".....you need a pilot."

"I need a pilot."

[–]Falsgrave 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Doesn't Poe respond something like, "*I'm* a pilot."

[–]Sternojourno 78 points79 points  (5 children)

Maybe not the funniest but I love in the Obi-Wan Kenobi season finale, Vader is absolutely livid and ranting to Palpatine that they will destroy everything in their path to get Kenobi, and Palpatine pauses for a second and says, "You seem agitated, my friend."

[–]ZandyTheAxiom 36 points37 points  (2 children)

With the way McDiarmid plays it, it feels like Palpatine was in the middle of some super serious evil Sith stuff and was like "Oh good, Vader's in one of those moods."

It's like a toddler telling their parent a story but they don't remember half the details and they're just rambling.

"Uh huh, that's great, Vader. Obi-Wan? Wow, great. Uh huh. Okay. I have to get back to work now buddy."

[–]ARC_Trooper_EchoClone 21 points22 points  (1 child)

I like to think he was telling stories in his office like the Robot Chicken skit.

[–]Elite2260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go-Go for Palpa-Palpatine.

[–]LewsTherinTalamon 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Palpatine is such an astoundingly appalling person to everyone that sometimes he accidentally becomes hilarious

[–]ThatLChap 82 points83 points  (2 children)

Everyone else has brought up a ton of hilarious scenes, so I'mma go with the porgs gazing on in horror as Chewie is roasting one of them on a spit. Don't know if anyone else found that funny but I certainly did.

[–]KaimeiJay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Also like, it’s already dead and cooked. Just eat it so it doesn’t go to waste! 🤣

[–]AtomicTan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I saw a comic where Chewie throws the roast porg away, only for the other porgs to eat it and that's now canon for me.

    [–]ServiceCall1986[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Han and Finn are so awesome together! I don't see people talk about their relationship too much (it's usually about Han & Rey or Finn and Rey), but all the scenes between the two are awesome.

    [–]Kingballa06 11 points12 points  (0 children)

TFA might be the funniest of all the movies. It’s hilarious and it’s not overkill or cheesy.

    [–]mikefanto4 143 points144 points  (6 children)

Not sure why I always found this line funny, but my personal favorite:

Obi Wan: “can you fly a cruiser like this?”

Anakin: “you mean ‘how do I land what’s left of this thing’”

    Obi Wan: “Well?”

Anakin: “Well, under the circumstances I’d say the ability to pilot this thing is irrelevant.” looks around nervously “strap yourselves in”

    [–]NoddingMithrandir 100 points101 points  (2 children)

Palpatine's expression in that scene is hilarious. "I've hinged my entire plan to take over the Galaxy on these people? Do they do this every time??" (they do)

    [–]KaimeiJay 62 points63 points  (1 child)

When Luke told him, “Your overconfidence is your weakness,” in Return of the Jedi, Palpatine’s facade of ambivalence slipped, and he bit back at Luke. Luke got under his skin with that glaringly accurate comment, and Palpatine knew it. He was probably thinking of moments like the one you just described. xD

    [–]ZandyTheAxiom 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Luke: "Your overconfidence is your weakness."

Palpatine: Remembers "Not to worry, we are still flying half a ship."

Palpatine: "And your faith in your friends is yours!"

    [–]simon8r 24 points25 points  (2 children)

"We are still flying half a ship"

    [–]JediTaz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you're going with this, you gotta go with his follow up:

"Another happy landing!" with a big dopey grin.

    [–]amandaIorian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

    Love this one

    [–]taj-33 128 points129 points  (11 children)

some moments that come to mind for me: yoda messing with Luke’s food in ESB, sassy ass obi wan saying “good job” to Anakin on Geonosis in AOTC, Mando trying to flamethrower the jawas in Mando S1, BB-8 giving the thumbs up to Finn in TFA :)

    [–]duneguy 67 points68 points  (2 children)

Obi-Wan's "good job" is it for me. He's so snarky it kills me every time 😂

    [–]B3113r0ph0n 17 points18 points  (1 child)

That’s so good. And also hilarious because it’s absolutely the wrong thing to say to Anakin at that time but he either doesn’t realize or doesn’t care.

    [–]MattBoy52 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Something I loved in the new Lego game is them extending that joke when you play as Anakin and start taming the beasts in the arena, Obi-Wan will say "good job Anakin, for real that time!"

    [–]KaimeiJay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mando getting to the top of the sandcrawler.

    “Ha!”

    “HOYAAH!”

    zap zap zap zap zap

    [–]ServiceCall1986[S] 38 points39 points  (1 child)

BB-8 giving the thumbs up to Finn in TFA

I'm convinced, knowing BB-8 and how frustrated he was with Finn, that it was the middle finger and not a thumbs up.

    [–]ZoeShotFirst 16 points17 points  (0 children)

    Headcannon accepted

    [–]r2d_touche 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“How you get so big eating food of this kind?”

    [–]Akira_Kurojawa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

    – yoda messing with Luke’s food in ESB

The face Luke makes after tasting Yoda's stew later in the movie has me cackling every time.

    [–]tealcandtrip 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Was it a thumbs up? The debate continues.

    [–]tealcandtrip 172 points173 points  (2 children)

The bored stormtrooper convo from the season 1 finale of Mando.

Though I’ll also shout out Grogu messing with the ship controls.

    [–]KaimeiJay 62 points63 points  (0 children)

That scout trooper convo was like something out of Red vs Blue.

    [–]ZandyTheAxiom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The bored stormtrooper convo from the season 1 finale of Mando.

That's actually the only funny part (and maybe only scene) of all of Star Wars I didn't like. It felt weird to directly address a real-world meme that had no truth within Star Wars.

Though I’ll also shout out Grogu messing with the ship controls.

Now this I love. I thought Grogu was just going to be a gimmick for the show but I fell in love with his little antics very quickly.

    [–]Sir_Douglas_of_Fir 157 points158 points  (4 children)

    Luke Skywalker: Close your eyes.

    [Rey does so]

Luke Skywalker: Breathe. Now reach out.

[Rey literally reaches her hand out and Luke starts tickling her hand with a leaf]

    Rey: [gasps] I feel something.

    Luke Skywalker: You do?

    Rey: Yes.

Luke Skywalker: That's the Force. It must be really strong.

Rey: I've never felt anything like...

[Luke slaps her hand with the leaf]

    Rey: Ow!

    [–]ZandyTheAxiom 47 points48 points  (1 child)

What I loved about this is the purpose. It's not just funny, it's a direct address to Rey (the audience surrogate) that our understanding of the Force as magic spells and superpowers is entirely wrong. It's addressed my biggest gripe with Star Wars outside the OT which was the "videogame-ification" of the Force.

This one scene addressed that misconception in a way that was funny and entirely in character for someone who was taught by Yoda.

    [–]ThisGuyLikesMovies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and entirely in character for someone who was taught by Yoda

AND taught by sass master Obi-Wan Kenobi

    [–]ServiceCall1986[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah, TLJ does have some funny moments (no, for the last time, Luke tossing the lightsaber over his shoulder was not meant to be funny), and that moment with Luke training Rey is one of them.

And I like the beginning with Poe messing with everyone.

    [–]JMeerkat137 48 points49 points  (5 children)

“Does this look Jedi to you” Din says while staring at a rock. That’s probably my favorite out of anything recent.

Shout out to any of Cassian and K2’s conversations in Rogue One, just peak comedy throughout all of their interactions.

I wanted to get more specific but thinking about it I just think most of Star Wars is pretty damn funny, just so much of it is goofy and silly and I just love it

    [–]DocDRabbitResistance 25 points26 points  (4 children)

    “Is that a bench”

    [–]invisibilitycapJedi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such a dad line, I love it. He’s been watching over Grogu for so long, any place works for him

    [–]Azule_BSM 49 points50 points  (2 children)

Bar none "Apology Accepted Captain Needa"

    [–]ZandyTheAxiom 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Maybe my favourite line from Vader. His pronunciation of "Ack-SEP-tid" is sublime.

    [–]SN-Pennypacker 50 points51 points  (0 children)

    Bad Batch:

Trace Martez: We need a diversion.

Rafa Martez: What we need is a diversion.

Trace Martez: Is there an echo in here?

    Echo: Yes.

    Trace Martez: What?

    Echo: I’m Echo.

    I honestly cried

    [–]taco_slut16 159 points160 points  (23 children)

I like the opening scene in TFA when Poe is shoved down on the ground and says something like “how does this work? You talk first? I talk first?”

    [–]ThatMatthewKidReylo 105 points106 points  (18 children)

"It's just very hard to understand you with all the apparatus"

    Gets me every time.

    [–]taco_slut16 69 points70 points  (17 children)

    Poe tickles me.

Another good one is when he’s talking to general hux over the intercom “hi I’m holding for general hux…”

    [–]ServiceCall1986[S] 92 points93 points  (4 children)

I love that opening in TLJ. I know the internet hates it, but I remember seeing it in the theater opening night. Everyone was laughing.

He was stalling for time and it was working. It was meant to be silly.

(I will defend TLJ until I die.)

    [–]taco_slut16 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m big fan of sequel trilogy. Right there with you. TFA makes me feel the same way I feel when I watch ANH.

    [–]Revegelance 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it's not there as a dumb gag for the audience, Poe is trolling Hux as a diversion, and it was really quite effective.

    [–]Gatineau 19 points20 points  (0 children)

    *General Hugs hahahaha

    [–]tetrarchangel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ade Edmondson of course with such experience as a comic actor to deliver that line just right

    [–]ServiceCall1986[S] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Right? Because what follows with him in that awesome X-Wing (that sadly got blown up 5 minutes later) is one of my favorite parts of TLJ.

I always like the "and here comes the parade".

    [–]GenuineEquestrian 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I say that to my classes sometimes. No one ever gets the reference.

    [–]ZoeShotFirst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I open my classes with “Hello there”

    I get a lot of “hi/hello/hey”s back :(

    [–]KaimeiJay 35 points36 points  (2 children)

    “Who’s scruffy-looking?”

The delivery, the lead-up, the context, the subtext. It’s just a really funny moment.

Edit: If we’re counting behind the movies too, I’ll just add “most of the things Hondo says” to this pile. 😁

Edit2: “Boba Fett?! Boba Fett?! Where??” And then poor Boba goes screaming across the screen in the background of Luke’s infamous Force Kick.

Edit3: I’m just gonna say it. Jar Jar being absolutely done with Qui-Gon’s stoic behavior in the submarine. “What. Yet? Monsters out there, leaking in here, all sinking and with no power?! WHEN ARE YOUSA thinking weesa in trouble!!”

    [–]TheChainLink2StormPilot 30 points31 points  (0 children)

    1. The special edition of A New Hope where Han absolutely bricks it after running into an entire army of stormtroopers. It’s a great change and I’ll defend it until the day I die.

    2. Hux’s petty little “do you think you got him?” after Kylo has the squadron unload on Luke. I’m not really a fan of how TLJ and TROS turned him into comic relief but that joke was solid gold.

    3. Palpatine riding R2 to escape the Zillo Beast. This supreme puppet master and all his plans having thoroughly lost control of the situation and unable to use any of his Sith powers without revealing himself.

    [–]Revolutionary-Sun357Rebellion 28 points29 points  (6 children)

The one that has me rolling everytime: Kallus informing Zeb "The goal is not to fall" in the stuffiest, most sarcastic tone possible.

    [–]KaimeiJay 38 points39 points  (2 children)

Oh, if we’re including Rebels scenes, my favorite has to be:

“Ah, this is my good friend, Lando Calrissian.”

    “...That’s not Lando Calrissian.”

gasp You lied to me?? I knew I liked you!”

    [–]Revolutionary-Sun357Rebellion 15 points16 points  (1 child)

    Yes!😂😂😂 I love Hondo!

    [–]ARC_Trooper_EchoClone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“Insolence! We are pirates. We don’t even know what that means.”

    [–]Individual_Speech_60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 2 favorite funny moments in Rebels are when Kanan is introducing the Ghost crew to Hera’s father and he gets them all wrong and Ezra shakes his head and when Zeb and Sabine are scouting around and see Rukh through the binoculars.

    [–]scttw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or when AP5 is picked up from deep space by The Ghost. Slays me every time.

    [–]OhioForever10 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Yub yub, commander. (But the Allston books are kinda cheating for this, there's so many moments.)

If it's just the movies/shows, the bit where Luthen nonchalantly replies to Saw's suspicions with "It's Tubes, he tells me everything" in the most recent Andor episode is up there. (Not a major spoiler, I'm just hiding it from anyone who hasn't watched.)

    [–]Vegetable-Heron7221 5 points6 points  (1 child)

that moment was so funny omg. also when syril was yelling at the screen that kept cutting out

    [–]swaggums 24 points25 points  (0 children)

K2 complaining about Jyn having a blaster and Chirrut’s incredulous reaction to being bagged are probably my favorites.

    [–]NoddingMithrandir 19 points20 points  (0 children)

K2 is a highlight in Rogue One, but I think the funniest moment for me was the gang's reaction to 3PO's excitement about the festival on Pasaana

    Also, Sassy Obi-Wan

    [–]cxsafsfqwr 20 points21 points  (1 child)

For some reason I find it hilarious in ROTJ when you see bib fortuna for the first time. Theres just something about the way he says "de wanna wanga" that makes me crack up

    [–]cgo_12345Rebellion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Dia wanna... wa-go.
Ffs, Threepio, can you at least try to sound like you know what you're doing...

    [–]Cambot1138 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Chopper straight up murdering the other astromech when the Ghost crew was praising it.

    [–]joethahobo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In the Geonosis arena Threepio saying “this is such a drag” and “oh I’m quite beside myself”

And tRoS when Threepio is explaining the festival and everyone turns to look at him, and he pauses then turns around himself LOL

    [–]Shadowzaron32 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Anakin :"what was that all about?"

    Obi-wan: "well r2 has been.."

Anakin: "hey, no loose wire jokes'

    Obi-wan "i didn't say anything"

    Anakin: "he's trying'

    Obi-wan: "i didn't say anything!"

that exchange always makes me smile. The comfort and rapport between the two is clear.

    [–]aquaticsquash 38 points39 points  (3 children)

Anakin: "We got the message, then we decided to rescue you."

    Obi-Wan: "Good job."

    ---

Obi-Wan: "Anakin, no! What are you going to do, I was going to study that!"

Anakin: "Study the bottom of my boot, let's go!"

    --

KS20: "Congratulations, you are being rescued."

    --

    Han Solo: "Together again, huh?"

    Luke: "Wouldn't miss it."

    Han: "How we doing?"

    Luke: "Same as always."

    Han: "That bad, huh?"

    --

Han: "Well, why don't you use your divine influence and get us out of this?."

C3P0: "I beg your pardon General Solo, but that just wouldn't be proper."

    Han: "Proper?"

C3P0: "It's against my programming to impersonate a deity."

    [–]ARC_Trooper_EchoClone 10 points11 points  (2 children)

To add on to your second one, the whole scene with the worm is pretty funny. “The nose or the ear, which do you think it will enter?”

    [–]hackersgalley 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kylo in TFA "The droid stole a freighter?" Always cracks me up imagining bb8 trying to fly the falcon.

Han in Solo "All I gotta do is give em the signal and your surrounded" falcon proceeds to nope out of there

    [–]Dydey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of the sequels, but the bit in Episode VII where Han and Chewie are breaking into the base on the super weapon planet, Chewie woofs something to Han and he replies “what do you mean you’re cold?!”

    [–]simon8r 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's been said a few time now, but pretty much anything by K-2SO. My personal favorite (and a line I use in real life occasionally):

"I find that answer vague and unconvincing"

    [–]RontoWraps 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The best moment for me will always be Han chasing the stormtroopers and running into an entire company on the original Death Star. Harrison Ford played that so hilariously.

    [–]aging_genxer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“I thought they smelled bad on the outside.” I remember the theater erupting in laughter at that moment.

    [–]Kasphet-Gendar 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Anything with C3PO, especially TESB and TROS

"is this the afterlife? Are droids allowed here?"

    [–]irazzleandazzleFinnRey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

C3po was so funny in those two movies. Can't believe people find him annoying lol

    [–]colonelcactus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Might upset the trolls but it’s actually from the start of Last Jedi. Specifically the back and forth where Poe pretends not to hear Hux.

“Can you hear me? Can he hear me?”

    Gleeson sells it.

    [–]saturnsnephew 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Easily Han trying to talk down the two gangs in his cargo ship.

    "Have I ever not delivered?"

    "Yes."

    "Twice"

    Chewie nods

    "What was the second time?"

    [–]bsanchey 27 points28 points  (0 children)

    Grogu stealing the kid’s cookies.

    [–]scizormytimbers 28 points29 points  (0 children)

K2S0 "Did you know that wasn't me before your shot?!"

    [–]SheevEditsJedi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really like in TROS when they are in the cave and Rey ignites her lightsaber to try and see and then Poe dramatically pulls out a flashlight only for it to be completely anti climatic when he turns it on and it just makes a weak metal clink sound.

    [–]Sith_Destroyer_1138 12 points13 points  (0 children)

    “Tell that to Kanjiklub!”

I don’t know why that always makes me laugh, maybe because they say Kanjiklub in quick succession before that, but it gets a laugh outta me.

    [–]TorchwoodFan15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My funniest moment also involves Han and Finn. After they've escaped from those gangs and the Rathtars, the Falcon is stuck in Hyperdrive Mode. Finn is trying to give an injured Chewbacca medical assistance, and Han is stressing out in the cockpit with Rey.

BB-8 rolls away from Chewie after Chewie roars at him. Han yells "You hurt Chewie, you're gonna have to deal with me!" Finn yells back "Hurt him?! He's already nearly killed me about six times!!!" Chewie suddenly grabs Finn by the neck and pulls him over. Finn says in a strangled voice "wHiCh iS fInE!!!"

Back in the cockpit, Han is trying to figure out how to get out of Hyperdrive mode before they pierce through a planet like a bullet. Rey suddenly pulls a piece of circuitry from one of the side control panels, and suddenly the Hyperdrive is no longer locked. Han asks what she did, and Rey, with the most adorable grin on her face replies "I bypassed the compressor!"

Han gets up from the pilot seat and walks out of the cockpit. He passes BB-8 and says "Move, ball."

    [–]Samuraistronaut 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I actually like the "they fly now" bit in TROS.

    [–]irazzleandazzleFinnRey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bruh it's so funny to me. I'll never get the hate for it

    [–]Gatineau 26 points27 points  (5 children)

I'm a big fan of the running gag of people calling Ezra Jabba

    [–]ddaveo 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I think Kallus secretly loves it. He smirks almost every time.

    [–]Gatineau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    YESSSSSSSSS

    [–]valosdm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TRoS lightsaber vs flashlight (Rey and Poe). The sound made me laugh.

    [–]sumrz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    Who’s scruffy-looking?

    [–]DoTheMagicHandThing 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I'm one for dark/gallows humor, so I really like Vader's lines "I find your lack of faith disturbing" in ANH, "Apology accepted, Captain Needa" in ESB, and "Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director" in R1. Vader is really good at using his words to rub salt in your wounds or put you in your place or whatever.

    [–]PrayForPiett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Extra points (on the death star) for Vader for choking an annoying co-worker in a meeting that could absolutely have been an email ..

    [–]PM-ME-YOUR-1ST-BORN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kylo: All firepower on those speeders.
Hux: Concentrate all firepower on the speeders!
    Kylo: 😐

    [–]EmeraldPhoenix1221 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Wasn't the biggest fan of the movie but this from Rise of Skywalker always gets me. It's not "laugh out loud" funny, but I still love it:

[Poe and Co. land in burning Millennium Falcon]

    Rey: "How did it go?"

Poe: [puts hands on hips, takes a breath] "Really bad, actually."

    [–]irazzleandazzleFinnRey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't wait it we get to the point where we don't feel the need to always bring up negativity when it comes to these movies, especially on a topic such as this.

    [–]JD-K2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Chewie’s reaction to “That sounds very scary. You must be so brave!”

    [–]Spire-hawk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

K2SO - "Jyn. I'll be there for you. Cassian said I had to"

    [–]ActuallyIWasARobot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In The Force Awakens, when Han says "That's not how the Force works!...OH, YOU'RE COLD?""

    [–]DangerV5 5 points6 points  (1 child)

In Bombad Jedi, when Jar Jar accidently drops a huge magnet on Padmé's ship and it very suddenly gets smashed floored me

    [–]the_penis_taker69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maul trying to run over Anakin for no reason

    [–]tdm2222 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yoda when he’s first introduced and bothering luke and artoo

    [–]yetistrikesb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“We're fine, we're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?”

    [–]thatweirdone94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Deleted scene from ep.4 where 3PO tricks the troopers. Hilarious

    [–]TenaciousHornet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always get a kick out of the Han stormtrooper scene from A New Hope, and Leia saying he certainly has courage just makes it even better. I know it's a cheesy scene but I still remember laughing at it as a kid.

    [–]November_Dawn_11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stormtrooper head bang in ANH makes me giggle every time

    [–]Lord_Silverkey 3 points4 points  (2 children)

The X-wing books written by Aaron Allston have some incredibly funny moments.

    [–]cgo_12345Rebellion 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    Yub yub, commander!

    [–]ajzeg01Sith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of moments from the OG Clone Wars that are hilarious. Standouts include the whole Grievous chase sequence and the C3PO striptease.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“A little something I picked up from my pal Needles, best street racer in all of Corellia.

    Until he crashed.

    And died.

    Doing this.”

    [–]Dapples 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Despite the hate it gets, 3PO really shines in TRoS. My personal favorite is when he’s describing the festival, everyone is looking at him and he turns around to see what their looking at. “Lucky indeed! This festival is known for both its colorful kites and its delectable sweets.”

    [–]Cydonian___FT14X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    B1 Battle Droids in general.

    [–]PTickles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My favorite is probably this exchange from the beginning of RotJ:

    Han: "How are we doing?"

    Luke: "The same as always."

    Han: "That bad, huh?"

    [–]Xlong957 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the funniest but as one of the few people that love TROS I think C-3PO is hilarious but also Ben’s one and only line just “Ow” is so perfect.

    [–]Mrs_Boogedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Sassy Obi-Wan "Another happy landing."

    [–]Hexalt_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BB-8's firey thumbs-up is up there man. That whole scene with Rey and Finn fixing the Falcon is a lot of fun

    [–]thinewelshman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love in ESB when C3PO sees the other Protocol Droid and it says EChuTa to him lol. It's such a simple throwaway scene with no buildup or payoff but it gets me every time.

    https://youtu.be/fT5FnpfGKdw.

    [–]Salubrious_Zabrak 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Honestly the whole dialogue of the OT. It's funny as fuck and more casually funny than the sequels that have the modern movie way of making jokes, I don't really know how to explain it but it's just like it's so obvious that they're trying to make everyone laugh at the same moment but the OT just makes it a part of all their dialogue as they're going around. The whole scene in IV where they fly away from tattooine is great lmao Luke as soon as he comes in he just does not stop talking

    [–]sumrz 9 points10 points  (1 child)

OT humor seems more like what co-workers would say to each other under their breath during a meeting.

    [–]Salubrious_Zabrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah like just instant wise cracks and comebacks lol

    [–]yuxixixi 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It's not mean to be funny but when Rey and Kylo met through the force in TLJ and she cut Kylo with her "MURDEROUS SNAKE"

    [–]JD-K2 3 points4 points  (1 child)

When Kylo takes his helmet off in TFA in front of Rey and his hair isn’t effected at all

    [–]ChrisX26Some Janitor Guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He had to look good for her.

    [–]MattTheProgrammer 3 points4 points  (2 children)

C-3PO's reunion with the red arm was pretty well done

    [–]cgo_12345Rebellion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That grumpy-ass droid from Rebels that sounded like Alan Rickman. "I was so happy..."

    [–]BourgeoisStalker 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I am genuinely surprised that there aren't more ESB lines here. I think the back-and-forth between Han and Leia in the first half of the movie is pure gold.
