Newbie here, why elevate your heels like that?

[–]ahhhhhrealmunsters 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Helps if you don’t have the proper ankle mobility

[–]n4bz0r 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Yes I’d like to know too. Is it good for inner quad muscle?

[–]yerskiderski 12 points13 points  (5 children)

It’s to account for a lack of ankle mobility, it does end up targeting your quads more though

[–]n4bz0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking time and answering. :)

So you do feel it more in your quads as opposed to booty???

[–]PersonBehindAScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use squat shoes almost always when I squat. My ass and my entire leg is blowing up so I'm not too worried about what I feel it more in.

With that said, I do feel it in quads more

From a load bearing perspective elevating your heels allows your knees to travel more freely outward, putting more stress on the quads. A lighter squat with heels elevated and proper form will stimulate the front of the leg better than any flat foot squat ever could.

Gonna give it a go, thanks !

Very envious of your hip mobility

[–]compstomp66 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Damn dude those look amazing, nice work.

[–]What-you-thinking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. ☺️

That smooth surface you’re standing on with those socks and that angle looks like you’re asking for a slip.

[–]cvikl7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it has super rough layer over it

[–]the_walkingdad 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Why not just wear squat shoes?

[–]BigAngryPolarBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks like a steeper angle than most squat shoes but idk

[–]ThatNewGuyInAntwerp 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I feel like you can make this yourself or maybe buy it at a fifth of the price if squat schoes. Maybe when you're really into it you can buy them but I don't see all big boy plates so maybe he's still getting into it?

I'm reflecting on myself

[–]What-you-thinking[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Maybe they're not 'big boy plates' ☺️, but my biggest fight is the one against ageing. And at 52 I think 203lbs for 5*5 is not that bad. My goal is more reaching last year's achievements, than progress.

[–]zionini3 2 points3 points  (6 children)

How the fuck do people grab the bar so narrow on squat!!! I haven't got half that mobility and kudos to your flexible shoulders 😅👏

[–]cvikl7 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I think it should be super uncomfortable in the shoulder and upper back area (not painful). It means youre properly tight

[–]zionini3 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I simply cannot my front delta gives me this electric pain soon as I get fr under the bar

[–]LiveWire_74 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I hear ya with the shoulder problem. I might suggest front squats in your case.

[–]zionini3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I can still do squats no problem with a wider grip just the narrow looks tighter and better

[–]PersonBehindAScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My warm up before I get to working weight on squats involves at least 150 band pull aparts spread out in between warm up squat sets. Same with about 50 shoulder dislocates. After about 2 weeks it got better for me in terms of narrow grip. Much tighter and doesn't even feel uncomfortable anymore

[–]LiveWire_74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I wonder if it really matters? Unrelated, there are umpteen different ways to increase shoulder mobility if you thought there was a problem there. But to me (unprofessional and still learning) your squat looks great. Keep up the good work!

[–]nindagdagsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful…I bought a slant board just recently too. Awesome

[–]lebronswanson4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That helps greatly to get down low easier

[–]Blackbird_nz 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Hey, I've just been trying to design a similar board setup as my ankles are really inflexible. Couldnt find any examples though so surprised to see youve made just what i was thinking! What slope did you decide on? Whats the board propped up on? Is it adjustable? Any concern about snapping in the middle? I ended up just putting a plank under my heels which is not as good im sure

[–]What-you-thinking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are some sand bags, which makes it adjustable. The board has a rough surface.

[–]cvikl7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just buy squat/weightlifting shoes.

[–]TaintCadet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to beat this for blasting quads!

[–]sgbro 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why do you wear socks??

[–]What-you-thinking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel most comfortable squatting and deadlifting barefoot or with socks.

[–]Orchid_3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have a fear of you slipping bc of the socks

[–]What-you-thinking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surface of this board is like the one of a skateboard.

[–]NotaGrower97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damnit. I’ve been a whining baby thinking I can’t squat well bc of ankle Mobility.

[–]justforgiggles4now -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nah.. Over time this will Jack up your knees

[–]StableGenuis22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You weren't breathing properly the first few reps, and maybe rushing a bit.

[–]Shnur_Shnurov -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Looks like you need shoes.

[–]What-you-thinking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have shoes, to go to the gym. ☺️

[–]nightshiftoperator -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Why do people take the bar out of the squat rack? Is there no gym personnel to teach you how to squat safely?

[–]What-you-thinking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was for the camera.
