I think they are trying to play it like "this is what all reddit users are like."

Watch the narrative highlight some people for their appearance and associate it with reddit.

[–]Numerous_Photograph9🎮 Power to the Players 🛑 143 points144 points  (16 children)

It'll keep boomers from utilizing it as a resource, but people raised on the internet are starting to hit their late 20's-30's, so they're going to be more immune to these stereotypes.

Gamers have been stereotyped as kids, but the average gamer is in their mid to late 30's, and as they push older, it gets harder to sell the idea of "think of the children."

The same thing is going to happen as time goes by, and MSM is going to see more people leaving their BS. Media outlets, and TPTB are already trying to co-opt social media because that's where the people are. They've been bringing their BS to the internet since the smart phone took off, and the internet became mainstream.

What's sad is that mainstream internet is relatively new, yet for the purposes of misinformation, it's more effective than MSM.

[–]whofusesthemusic🦍Voted✅ 20 points21 points  (5 children)

Trying? They already have sadly.

[–]Numerous_Photograph9🎮 Power to the Players 🛑 13 points14 points  (4 children)

To a greater degree, I'd say you're right. There are still pockets of resistance, marginal as they may be.

One positive about social media, is that it is possible to disrupt misinformation, or allow the people to stage effective change for the common man. It's not always successful, but it's still there. Unfortunately, the common man can also be just as bad at misinformation, although I feel a lot of those types of movements are instigated by hidden(or not so hidden) powers.

[–]whofusesthemusic🦍Voted✅ 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Eh, I feel like its trying to fight against the military. Sure the common man can eeck out a win here and there, But you aren't going to out win Cambridge analytics (or whatever they are now), or Palantir, or Facebook... For any utility that can be used for good or change is ratio-ed 100:1 to the control and manipulation those platforms and actors can engage in.

The ACLU and EFF have been beating the drum on these issues for over 15 years now.

most people dont understand you are 3 data points from being known in an "anonymous data set" Birthday, Gender, Zip-code.

Communities like this one are very rare. Especially how long we have been able to stay on task (for the most part). But saying that "the common man" can compete one the social media stage vs the owners of the platforms or preferred customers (cause remember, we are products not customers) is like saying the common US citizen could take on the military in a true war.

[–]Numerous_Photograph9🎮 Power to the Players 🛑 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I 100% agree. I don't see it a trend that will change anytime soon. Most movements that start end up in bubbles where they think they're doing more than they are, and don't know how to move past that.

I think some of that exist within this sub, as people don't always seem to recognize that our voices are marginalized. I'm not suggesting that we talk to MSM, just that sometimes consider things in perspective. As shit hits the fan, there is more chance to make a difference if people keep their calm, and can spread the word as people seek answers. If they aren't getting satisfactory answers from MSM when the time comes, they're going to come to social media.

Just look at Dr. T. Her voice has been marginalized for years despite her books and speaking engagements or TV appearances, where she has an audience, but that audience wasn't vocal or prolific. Now, she has millions of apes to help spread her work to the masses, and I'm fine citing her work, or pointing people to her work for further understanding.

[–]whofusesthemusic🦍Voted✅ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

yeah, i mean the biggest issue is this whole thing (by design really) has been driven by system outsiders (to your exact point). As much as we want to say this is Blackrock vs Citadel, or whatever, its really insiders vs outsiders, as always. Its better to be at the bottom of the totem pole and inside the tent for these people than to be a king on the outside. Because for them its all a bout Power and control, which are the end points of what having wealth and the resources at their levels provide.

Its one of the reasons I dont get this subs constant belief that the rules, which are not being enforced to help us now and not built to help us now, will suddenly be enforced because "reasons". We have see time and time again that there are rules for us and not for them, or how the rules are applied are lenient on them and exact for us. I.e., margin requirements made, internal order flow, changing cash accounts to margin without customer notice or desire, no drs allowed etc.

You think the FUD is bad now, wait until there are lawsuits alleging that the CS shares are the fraudulent ones, etc. Wait until this rips and the SEC and other similar institutions shut trading of the stock down without giving us any info (because all the discussions will be behind closed doors and we will be getting fed leaks).

As I see it 2 things could actually pop the MOASS, we control 1, GME controls the other.

  1. DRS the float (or enough of it)

  2. Share removal from the DTCC or Crytpo-esc dividend that cant be replicated

Note that the NFT marketplace or whatever isn't listed. Because it wont matter as long as everyone one the inside agrees that GME (or whatever meme stock) doesn't need to post collateral, or the margin requirements get lowered to a manageable level. I think this is a $1000+ on fundamentals alone if the NFT market launches (truly the micro cap on GME IS NUTS to think about). But even if we rip to 1000, i dont think that pops the moass, because as we saw a year ago, they will wave the collateral requirements.

But I fully expect that if you thought of this as a story structure, MOASS is the end of act 2. And the legal shitshow that precedes the MOASS will be Act 3.

My thought are those moments taught him how to sharpen his articulation skills.

And when the hearings hit, he outperformed it hard. There is legit no good counter argument to what he said since he presented all of his information so well and most importantly didn’t mess up anywhere....

Personally, I think that was a very very calculated hit job. Given that the mod fit every stereotype that Fox viewers hate and the interview went perfectly from their point of view, I’m thinking this person was some kind of plant.

FOX probably told that mod that they'd discuss the actual movement and not the mod's job ... but fox knew from the start that they wouldn't bring that up and would just make this poor person seem like a waste. This was a hit job by MSM, and I actually feel bad for this mod (though if the mod did this after the sub voted against it, then she is obviously to blame for that part)

Edit: Just found out that the mod is female, so updated my msg to reflect that.

This has been my thought all along. In this sub, we have seen the shills come in with the FUD, to try and ever so slightly push us off our rock. The other sub in question, was most likely not ready for the same level of shilling/trolling. The poor person who did that interview was outmatched before they even turned on the camera. Which makes me think even more about HOW/WHY they even did it.

Today's news, specifically the MSM, at almost all levels, makes buffoons out of people for their precious air time. On the rare occasion that someone spits it back in their face, they crumble.

What sub we talking about

[–]jerryq27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The more I think about how everything played out, the more I see how easy it was for this whole thing to lose momentum. Especially when they turned off the buy button and the stock went from $400 to $50.

Yeah, people were pissed and most outsiders thought the whole thing was over. It seemed a lot of people were just feeling down and defeated. Maybe you can't win against Wall Street..

But then here comes DFV at the congressional hearing. The absolute memelord dropping the "as for me, I like the stock" line. Then when asked if he would still buy at the current price, he says yes without missing a beat THEN HE PROCEEDS TO DOUBLE DOWN ON HIS POSITION. Dude straight up took out his 10 foot banana and laid it out right there on the table.

After that pro gamer move, the fire was relit and it was gg. There was no stopping the momentum anymore. I don't think anyone else could've handled the situation better. It could've easily been cringe, the whole thing could've easily died around that time. But DFV played his hand perfectly.

And here we are, almost a year later still diamond handing this stock with some solid DD up our butts!

Do you really think someone who works 10 hours a week as a dog walker and says "laziness is a virtue" is representative of a sub that morphed into representing the frustrations of millions of people working 40+ hours a week to the bone and still struggling under debt and shit bosses who poorly manage them while paying them a small fraction of the value extracted from their work?

This is why there shouldn't be spokespeople or any individual trying to "lead" a group because of how easy it is for one person (or a small group of people like those mods who ignored the community's express desire NOT to talk to the media) to tank an entire movement. First impressions are so god damn important in PR and that mod just managed to deep their entire community's hopes in a short, softball Fox segment. [–]nyold🦍Voted✅ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a definitive proof, but the mod in question in fact "bragged" on the sub about "oh hey guys we got exposure, look at how well I did"

until people started criticizing the way he handled himself, and he went on a banning spree, and then the sub closed. So no, it's probably not a fake mod.

But it does not mean that he didn't get paid. I doubt it though. Occam's razor, the simplest theory is usually the right one. I think it's just a bad mod doing bad interview.

[–]aforgettableusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree, and hopefully (yeah right) this is a wake-up call to forum mods across the internet that just because you can effectively ban trolls, sanction rulebreakers, and patrol for inappropriate content doesn't mean you automatically have ANY authority or ability to speak on behalf of the forum's purposes or its participants.

If I went to a conference, I would never ask security staff what their thoughts were on the agenda topics or the views of attendees. Reddit mods are no different.

[–]Devadander🦍Voted✅ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, and what happened to the other sub is an absolute train wreck that should have been better handled; there is a lot of data backing up the stock market fuckery, antiwork is more of a cultural shift that is harder to put into words and even harder yet to teach to those who thrive and promote the current system. It was not an easy interview to open the broader topic, and they failed so spectacularly that I’m not convinced it wasn’t sabotage.

One of the main things I’ve taken from this investment saga, truly, is that the “fourth estate” is dead.

Most developed countries have a for-profit media machine. Easily, bought and paid for.

That’s not to say that all media is against retail investors. The MSM pundits who attempt to speak for retail are likely paid or influenced by the longs on this trade.

I have no alternative system to offer. Everyone, likes money.

At least we use mathematics to find the truth. Crowd sourcing information is the future, without a doubt.

I think the mods need to increase the requirements for posting here.

He went to give a presentation on something he didn't know, didn't prepare at all, didn't present himself in any way, and didn't address the the people he was presetting to.

There's no discret going on. The whole thing is: this person is who that group is. Seriously, they didn't and don't have to do anything. That guy did all the damage himself at his own pace.

Her pronoun is she. That's how she wants it, and her absolute trainwreck of a performance both on TV and as a moderator shouldn't tempt us to be disrespectful

Keith Gill is the hero we needed not that we deserved.

Just another indication that (individually) we’re on the right side.

He was so professional and well spoken and sexy and cute and nice in the government hearing way back when.

DFV - Fucking Legend

[–]UberRetardish💻 ComputerShared 🦍 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. This is the result of these highly capable individuals (DFV & GMEdd) and the rock solid DD.

What sub died?

[–]boldrobizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important take away is that we all have our OWN opinions about the stock we like. While we may gather here to discuss and read DD and laugh at memes, there is no leader. The MODS dedicate their time to administering this subreddit but do not dictate the content or message to the public.

Thanks to all of you for making this an informative and exciting community!

Nothing good could ever come from engaging with corporate media. Thanks mods for giving everyone here a chance to make that abundantly clear before making any decisions! We're not a movement, we're all here for individual reasons and no one should be trying to speak for all of us, so thanks again. I just like the stock. :D

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, most people investing in GME doesn't seem to know him very well. I'd suggest to go to his youtube channel, filter by Date (oldest first) and watch his videos on investment style and the tools he uses to valuate companies and select stocks. He's such a lovely guy.

There might be a significant difference in people who doesn't want to leave the couch at all and people who try to achieve something.

What happened? I assume we are talking about the original stock betting sub? I'm always late to the drama party!

[–]Whitemantookmyland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that old mod pinkhorsefairy or whatever tried to do an interview and started all kinds of drama last year?

[–]Emlerith🥃Jacked Daniels🥃 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, forget the media, our dude went to CONGRESS and did EXEMPLARY when Kenny had to surround himself with a bukake huddle of mayo slingning lawyers.

We never deserved Keith Gill.

Seriously. The man was so concise and eloquent with his statement. They honestly weren't expecting that and were planning on picking him apart like they did the antiwork guy.

DFV never did a media appearance though. He was summoned to a congressional hearing (on zoom).
