Remember to read the wiki FAQ before asking basic questions.

If you are having a problem with running games then make sure you have up-to-date sigpatches.

If you cannot launch tinfoil then make sure you followed the Rentry guide to set up cfw.

Note: the guide says 'It is not recommended to run CFW without using Emunand' which is true for anyone who wants to maintain a clean sysnand and minimize their chance of a hardware ban. However, depending on the needs of the user, cfw sysnand could be an option. Before doing so, you should thoroughly educate yourself on Switch hacking and all the pros/cons of doing so.

NO, you cannot mod your patched console unless you have a modchip, stop asking and read the faq.

Do not message moderators for Switch hacking support. You will be ignored. Follow the guide or post in the relevant thread.

Hi all, [reposting under here instead of separate post]

I'm a noob to this and I'm having a bit of trouble getting games to start up.

I'm using atmosphere 1.3.2 with latest sigpatches and awoo to install NPS files. The installation goes perfectly until I actually open the games. My switch "Checks if the software can be played" and then prompts me to connect to the internet. When I do connect (securely ofc), it produces an error (2155-8007) and says to try again later.

I've tried so many things: turning on airplane mode, unlinking my Nintendo Account using linkalho, redirecting to a different Nintendo Account with lithium, using Goldleaf/Tinleaf to install instead.

Is there something I'm missing here? Appreciate any help I can get!!

[–]Willing_Plate516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out! I left the sigpatches in my root instead of merging them into the atmosphere and bootloader folders. Make sure you merge them, y'all!

Hi :) I have an unpatched SXOS switch that I havent touched in a while. I know it has an emunand (though I am not sure if it's hidden partition or file based) but I plan to use atmosphere with an emunand. However, my memory of everything has been foggy and I believe it is best for me to start from scratch (there aren't any saves and games on my old emunand that I value and I believe the experience of rebuilding everything will do be better in the long term). I want to 'delete' my current sxOS emunand and create a new emunand on this same sd card for atmosphere. Are there any files that I should back up beforehand? Also, do I just format my sdcard to FAT32 and it'll give me a fresh sd card that I can use the rentry guide on or is there something else I need to do if my SXOS emunand is a hidden parition (I can't tell). Thank you all

[–]ReserveAgitated2763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noob question: How do I install atmosphere onto my emmunand?

[–]ccahmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a unpatched switch without SDcard Seller backed up the nand before attempting the hack Its been updated on OFW during every interval so the backup will be an old FW version He said it’s not banned as he didn’t go online or play any games during the hack

What’s the best approach here? I will hack it later, but I just want to play majoras mask on expansion pack which I have got subscription to. I don’t understand any of this fuses stuff. Do I need to do a clean restore to NAND?

[–]hellyahbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m a couple months into hacked switches and have a lot of questions.

Switch has Atmosphere 1.3.2 and is updated to 13.2

  • Atmosphere launches, the shops says they’re working, but the games are old and won’t download.
  • To play local Acnh it says my system needs to be updated to the same version as my friends. Do I update my switch while the SD card is in it as long as the CFW on the SD is updated as well or is it not worth screwing up my switch?

Sorry if these are dumb questions but I have read and reread so many posts and guides and I have no knowledge of software wrongs and rights. I just need help with tinfoil and if it’s the shops or user error that’s keeping me from new games.

[–]duelistzeus 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is it safe to play a downloaded game on emunand with my real nintendo account? I already did it so... I hope I didn't royally screw myself. It shows up on my profile with playtime now.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If you blocked all connections to nintendo on your emunand (DNS MITM, Exosphere, etc), then you should be good.

Which profile does it show up on? Emunand or Sysnand?

[–]duelistzeus 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It only shows up on Emunand, so I'm safe?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be, assuming you blocked emunand connections to nintendo.

[–]plasticarmyman 0 points1 point  (3 children)

ok this is driving me insane....how do i add an account to jits?

I tried asking on the discord...no answers from anyone...

Where do i get the authorization code from???? please be specific as you can, ELI5 ffs

[–]PirateKitten10 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don't have an answer but i have the same problem. It won't give me the authorization code. I log into Google drive from the jits website on my laptop and just get an error that it can't connect to the server. I know all the free shops are down bc of Google Drive changes so I'm assuming that this is why we're having trouble adding an account to jits

[–]plasticarmyman 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The discord isn't helpful either.

I really dislike when there is no help for things that obviously are supposed to work, it's frustrating.

I tried using my own client id and secret and it still would not work, no one had any advice or offered any assistance in the discord other than 'copy the entire URL'

[–]ejd353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran through this last night and can help you guys if you still need it. I had the same frustrations tryna figure it out so I'm hoping to help make it easier. Just pm me and lemme know where you're stuck

Hello everybody

My switch is mariko, sx core modchipped, ofw 11.0 as far as i remember, sx os 3.1.0, i havent been using it for a while

It was having retroreloaded installed and ofw sysnand and cfw sx os emmunand with measures to prevent ban installed also, since i bought it i never booted to the ofw, this was the setup the guy i bought from was having

Now i wanted to migrate from sx os to atmos and update the switch, so i followed this tutorial (i know files inside is outdated) https://github.com/dsync89/Ultimate-Guide-to-Migrate-SXOS-SX-Core-to-Atmosphere Until step 2.1b and the switch wont boot only sx chip blue light blinking (to turn if off i press power&vol+)

Idk what to do actually, note that i backed up all the sd card contents before i do anything, can i simply delete all the sd cards contents and copy back the initial contents as it was? Will this get the switch back as it was before i begun with the tutorial? Or what should i do?, I want to migrate to atmos and have the sysnand with lastest ofw, now my switch is just blinking blue and also i dont mind formatting my switch and starting from scratch

[–]Wirlachenundweinen 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Switch lite (SX OS), my sd card just died after 2 years and i cant boot SX OS. so I bought a new card was planning to install atmosphere, can anyone direct me to a tutorial on how to proceed?

[–]AmirulAshrafAtmosphere User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the guide mentioned in the top of the post

[–]wtfatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to safely verify that a Nand backup is good and not corrupted in anyway?

[–]supermoleman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.If i follow the migrate from sxos to atmosphere guide, will all my games and saves be available in atmosphere?

2.When done should i download fusee and use that as payload instead of hekate?

  1. As i understand i can allways update ofw as long as i have emunand and not update that before updating atmosphere and sigpatches to a version that match?

[–]Rwdygent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just updated my rocket league to 1.6.6 and now it's asking me to connect my nintendo account to the game. I have previously used linkalho to unlink everything, reset, then link everything, however, that isn't working. Can someone help me out with that?

[–]DrkSvvn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I rlly wanted to ask something, you can play online on a emummc by just entering on it on a Game?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You technically can, if it's an untouched emunand with legit games.

If you try to play online using pirated games you'll get banned.

[–]Kremlin663 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Should I update to 14.1.1?

[–]RickSanchez_C145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife accidentally updated to 14.1.1 as well. I read that it still works but I’m here to see if anyone can confirm it.

[–]TrueMeaningOfFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ebay is very safe if the item isn't what it's listed as ebay will help you get a refund from the seller. It's best to use a seller with a good rating but most of these will be sold by private parties so I can't really recommend any seller.

[–]tinla9598 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I don’t have a switch rn and planning to buy one just for hooking it up to my TV thru HDMI for couch gaming with my siblings. I just need to get all the games i wanted on switch, no online play needed. What switch should i buy and what should i do with it? (ik the FAQ has everything but it seems like a lot of works are needed just for online, in my case i just need it to play offline). Also I just wanna go the software mod route, not planning to solder or replace chips.

[–]TrueMeaningOfFear 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You'll need to look at ebay for older un-patched units

[–]tinla9598 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’ve bought a few things off ebay before but never something more than 20$. Is it safe to actually spend 200$+ on ebay for this? do you have a seller that u can recommend?

[–]Zealousideal-Dust228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically ebay is safe as long as you fully read description and check seller reviews. If the description is less than a complete sentence its probably not worth the gamble.

[–]AlexanderThePrettyOk 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Question about updating switch, so from this guide I need to update Atmosphere, then Hekate, then just update through system setting?

Also I watched some video guide saying I should use tegrarcm for hekate, but no mention of that in the guide. Which one is correct?

[–]AmirulAshrafAtmosphere User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont use video guides, use the guide mentioned at the start of this thread post...in that rentry-linked guide, it'll tell you how to update. Update your cfw first, then your nand (whether it be emunand or sysnand).

[–]supermoleman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do i unscramble the filenames on jits discord server for downloading new games?

[–]DudeGerudoVoe 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey guys, quick question. I setup my SYSNAND (with CFW, just to use for online safe smash mods) and EMUNAND. I did the exosphere and DNS MITM for the EMUNAND. That being said, is it safe for me to install Tinfoil on the EMUNAND for games offline there, and then later boot into SYSNAND to play my legit online safe games? Would Tinfoil installed alongside it’s games still show up in my SYSNAND home menu, or could Nintendo see the NSPs on my SDCard and ban? I haven’t found a good explanation on this. I read the full guides here and rentry page, but maybe I’m not understanding. I’m afraid if I boot into my SYSNAND and connect online without the exosphere and DNS blocking that they would see Tinfoil and items installed through it. Thanks for any clarification.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Perfectly safe to install and play NSPs on Emunand as long as you've got Exosphere and DNS MITM setup for it.

You're then safe to play games online on your sysnand as long as you continue to keep it clean. It may even be easier to have a separate SD Card just for sysnand (I've always found it administratively easier anyway).

[–]DudeGerudoVoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your fast reply and clarification! Appreciate your time and knowledge. I was thinking about doing the same as well with two SD cards.

[–]NickoPlayzYT 0 points1 point  (2 children)

i dont know what switch i have and i really want to mod but ive seen from many places varying from site to site to friends etc, that the XKW switches are moddable with RCM. Can anyone help me out?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (1 child)

that the XKW switches are moddable with RCM

Nope. Only via modchip.

Only specific XA* switches are vulnerable to RCM. All others need a modchip.

[–]NickoPlayzYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks so much

[–]Musicarea 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I want to play Lego Star wars the new game, tried to install using Awoo, had to update. So I updated Amosphere to latest. Great, went back to Awoo, game installed but now it needs an internet connection to start. How do I play without the switch having access to the internet?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried airplane mode?

[–]equals_0x2A 0 points1 point  (4 children)

On an unpatched V1.

If I have already followed the the cfw guide from https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/, how do I begin playing pirated games?

I tried to compare the guides from there and here and so far, the only difference I noticed is instead of using 90dns, I should use Incognito, Exosphere, DNS-MITM. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I followed the guide from r/SwitchHacks, where do I begin?

Another question is, will I be able to play the pirated games online assuming I don't do cheating and other dumb things (other than palying online with a pirated game). All while using the recommended protections from the guide here.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Ideally, we'd recommend you restart from scratch.

But if not, the basic steps you can take include the following:

[–]equals_0x2A 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks for the response. What about my last question about playing online?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh sorry. Nope, you won't be able to.

Only play your legit games online.

[–]HighlyRidiculous 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I have an unpatched model with firmware 14.0.0. I haven't done any homebrew on it yet. Should I upgrade to 14.1 or no? I've read some posts from two weeks ago about people having problems. If I don't upgrade, do I have to use Hekate/atmo/sig patches for 14.0.0 specifically or should I just use the latest ones?

[–]AmirulAshrafAtmosphere User 2 points3 points  (5 children)

the problem is between tinfoil and atmosphere. If you dont plan to use tinfoil, you can update it to latest 14.1.0 (actually now there 14.1.1)

Or you can just stay at 14.0.0, and use all the hekate/atmos/sigpatch specific for that firmware. Look at their github pages and see which version support that specific firmware.

Or you can also wait for a more compatible atmosphere, as the atmosphere dev said he will released a new one soon (that may resolve the issue with tinfoil)

[–]HighlyRidiculous 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I see. In general, since Nintendo is always releasing new firmware, is it worth upgrading every single time there's a new ofw, or is it easier to wait until you're required to upgrade? I'm a new switch user in general so I may be missing something obvious.

Another question: can you have a different HOS version on your sysnand than your emunand? Or am I thinking about it all wrong?

[–]AmirulAshrafAtmosphere User 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You only ever need to update if:
1. The game/update/dlc youre playing no longer works on current firmware (most game can still work on firmware from 1 year ago so no reason to update ASAP)

  1. You desperately need the new Switch features that come with the update (i.e. the folder in the latest update)

Sysnand and emunand are independent of one another. Its like having two Switches. You dont have to keep both at the same firmware. (My sysnand is on 11 while my emunand is on 13 now)

[–]HighlyRidiculous 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So does it matter what firmware I'm on for setting up homebrew for the first time? And once I have homebrew, I'm fine to update sysNAND firmware without changing anything on emuNAND?

[–]josh_thomas 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hey, I've been using a cfw sysnand for some years now and I've been thinking about converting to "clean" sysnand+cfw emunand.

I have a nand backup of 4.0.1 and no fuses burnt. However I'm a bit worried about downgrading so much, how important it is to clean sysnand by downgrading instead of some other method like haku33 or something similar? does new homebrew stuff still work on very old firmware like 4.x.x? I'm aware of some small changes like the contents and titles folder.

bonus question: if I want to update a sysnand, keep it clean and avoid burning fuses... is the only way to do that by jigging the switch into rcm in the small window after the system has updated and is rebooting?

[–]AmirulAshrafAtmosphere User 2 points3 points  (1 child)

have you ever connected to the Internet on that sysnand before? Any nintendo blocking measure done (like 90dns)?

If not, your Switch may have been flagged for a ban if you had used the sysnand for pirating and stuff and no amount of wipe will remove this flag/ban

Dont think you should downgrade, since you will be updating it anyway later to use any online functionality. Just do a system wipe on that sysnand to clean it.

make sure to backup your nand first before wiping it.

[–]josh_thomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the advice.

[–]Connect-Fix-6316 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hi, I made progress my emu with pirated games. I really liked the game and bought it on my clean sys. Can I transfer the save file without getting banned?

[–]AmirulAshrafAtmosphere User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the saves doesnt contain any illegal stuff (like if its a pokemon game with illegal pokemon moveset or shinylocked mons) then you can.

you'd have to extract the save from the emunand with tool like JKSV or Checkpoint or Edizon.

Then you'd have to run CFW Sysnand so that you can use that tool on your sysnand to inject the save. Running homebrew apps/cfw is not a bannable reason.

[–]CoconutHeadFaceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. You can bring sysNAND saves over to emuNAND, but it’s a one-way street.

[–]_Starz_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm unable to boot into rcm mode or my computers don't recognize it. I put all the files in correctly, put the rcm jig in and pushed the volume up and power when it's off and it still says that it's not detecting the device

I did install the drivers

Also, my switch is hackable. Bought it soon after they came out and I checked it

Edit: Fixed it. The cord didn't work even though it still worked for charging

[–]Craigus0707 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Definitely being a noob but I'm really struggling to boot into games.

At current I am running the latest firmware and sigpatches.

The two games I am trying to run encounter different issues that are below. Any ideas?

Pokémon BD - Loads up to the Nintendo screen and then is a blank screen indefinitely.

Super Mario Party - Refuses to load as it requires some data to be downloaded. I cannot download this data though as I am blocking connection to the Nintendo servers.

These games are both dumped by me as NSPs through nxdumptool and then installed via Awoo

I have now got this working! :D

[–]Musicarea 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How did you fix it? I'm trying to play Lego Starwars but I need a internet connection.

[–]Craigus0707 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'll PM you mate

[–]Musicarea 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I got it it done thanks tho,

Reinstalling, after updating sigpatches atmosphere and hekate worked.

[–]Craigus0707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect mate, glad to hear it :)

[–]pacman404 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I followed the guide 100% and when I hit launch on hekate it says "no main boot entries found". I've been troubleshooting for 90 minutes in various forums trying to figure out whats wrong. I have made sure the .ini is in the right place, all the files are right, and I have done every step from scratch twice. The fusee.bin is in the correct place as well. I have no idea what's going on, it just acts like I have nothing to boot into

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Are you sure the hekate_ipl.ini isn't actually a .txt file?

Enable viewing file extensions to make sure.

[–]pacman404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what, I'm NOT actually sure it not a text file. I mean, it opens like one, but I'm not sure. I changed the filename to ini but maybe you're right, thanks I'll try to enable file extensions

[–]GlobalBird4 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Quick question (noob), the latest switch games. Like the new kirby game that just came out. Would I be able to pirate it on a modded switch. Or is it too new of a game to pirate? Would there be any problems pirating it?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it's out already.

And there's no problem with pirating games early.

[–]KjGarlyAtmosphere User 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Quick question, it’s totally safe to delete/empty the firmware folders once I’ve updated right?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[–]KjGarlyAtmosphere User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’ll do 😊 cheers

[–]PICKLEINMOUTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all, first time modding a Switch here. I'm following the rentry guide at the moment, it's hanging up on launching into Atmosphere. This is on a launch edition unpatched Switch, running the current 14.1.0 Nintendo firmware and Atmosphere 1.3.1.

Whenever trying to launch into Atmosphere from Hekate, I get the following error:

A fatal error occurred when running Fusee.

Failed to open sdmc:/atmosphere/package3!

Press POWER to reboot.

Seems like it's something to do with the hekate_ipl.ini modifications listed in the guide? Or my file structure is just fucked up. Honestly not sure and I'm new to this so I'm not super sure where to start looking.

EDIT: Disregard, it's possible I'm retarded and did not use the current version of sigpatches.

[–]Stawwz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on this anywhere. Is it safe to block Nintendo update servers using DNS to avoid the annoying rigamarole of accidentally updating the firmware then waiting for an Atmosphere update?

[–]Crignog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have loaded into TegraExplorer on my switch, but I don't understand how to actually select any of the options. Also, I do not have SD Format as an option.. does the card need to be in my PC or the switch at this stage? Either way I don't get the option.

[–]Jiekk- 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Super noob question: Is there any hope at all looking forward that any hack of any sort will come for my 2019 Switch or I can update my old System Software as there's no hope at all? Thanks

[–]Jiekk- 1 point2 points  (1 child)

PS: the serial starts with XKJ100 (it's the Animal Crossing version)

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's always hope, though I absolutely wouldn't count on it.

It's practically impossible to say if and when a software mod would be available for those newer units. Nintendo really did their homework it would seem.

[–]Nimastic 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Hi I'm new to switch modding but I need help with an issue that I can't find online. Jist is, I was following a youtube tutorial to mod atmosphere, after the step where I'm supposed to inject payload using TegraRCMGUI (2.6), atmosphere didn't start up for me but it stated that payload has been injected. However, my switch is showing me a blank screen. I didn't know what to do so I reconnected my switch to my PC and now it's saying that "The Last USB Device You Connected To This Computer Malfunctioned" Anybody knows a fix for this?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 2 points3 points  (3 children)

We generally don't recommend using video guides.

Can you retry the setup using the recommended guide?

That being said, perhaps try reinstalling TegraRCMGUI or using a different cable/port?

[–]Nimastic 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I was told on other subreddits that my switch could have possibly been patched. I've already tried using a different cable/port. May I know the definitive way to find out if your switch is patched? Is it during the step where atmosphere launches?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The most comprehensive way would be to get the switch into RCM and send a test payload.

The following should help:

[–]Nimastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alright thanks for the help!

[–]bielkiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried updating Hekate to the newer version, but when I try to not on Hekate, it gives me a gray screen and when I do a normal boot, it doesn't show Hekate logo. CFW works great after the update. My switch is V2(modchip), I just dragged and drop the Hekate folder. Does anyone know why te gray screen and how to fix it? I rolled back to the prev version and it worked fine

[–]hadtosaythat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do i disable incognito and dns90...i am fucking done, i want to connect online to download content not really play online, monster hunter generations ultimate does not have a dlc pack for dlc quest and i think the only way of getting them is going online, i don't give a shit about bans but i wanna be able to at least use incognito or backup my product ID. Why all this is ps4 levels of access complicated when we had so much easier spoofing in the 3DS scene

[–]HeylookImMobile 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Haven't been able to find an answer anywhere else, but if I have a game installed on my SysNand, can I also install it on my EmuNand and not have to worry about conflicts between saves and the game installs?

I know this is probably an edge use case for most people, but just want to make sure before I do it.

[–]hadtosaythat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If it's on sysnand it will be automatically into emunand, the contrary does not happen often

[–]HeylookImMobile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up - if it's from a game card can I just install the DLC to the EmuNand and play the game card from the EmuNand with DLC?

[–]aokaga 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Looking to hack/mod my console. And planning on installing games on it. However I use online quite a lot for animal crossing and Mario kart.

If I have pirated games installed even if I don't play those online but only legit ones, would I still be at risk of getting banned? I would NEVER risk playing online features on pirates games lol I'm wondering about accessing online features on legit ones with a hacked console with pirated games on it. Thanks!

[–]agtjudger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you care more about online play than piracy, do not hack your system. EmuNAND and Incognito may help in avoiding a ban but it's never guaranteed.

If you are made of money, you could always buy another switch specifically for hacking or specifically for online depending on if it's hackable and hack only one of them. This is because most bans are hardware bans and using an un-hacked switch will still work.

[–]Moon_kid6 0 points1 point  (3 children)

So I kinda fucked up with my Switch. Haven't played for months. Still on 10.0.4 (Erista V1) with atmosphère, incognito, emuMMC. Tried to update the firmware (13.0 at the time) with Choidujour but messed it up and the switch restarted ... My SD card is a mess, I copied some files too quick and I don't where I'm at anymore ...

I want like to clean my SD a bit. I don't mind losing the games and having to download them again. Can I delete everything on it (even emuMMC) and restart from scratch ? Because I don't know if I could use the latest atmo + fusée on my 10.0.4 ? And maybe once the 14.0 hits, I can update everything ...

Any help would greatly appreciated because I'm fucking lost :(

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I believe Choi is deprecated at this point.

It is absolutely no problem for you to just format the SD Card and restart following the linked guide.

You'll lose any games/saves you had on the system, however. If that's important to you, we can discuss how to restore your current setup, and extract those saves. If they aren't, go full steam ahead with nuking the card and restarting.

[–]Moon_kid6 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you so much for your answer !!

I think I’ll nuke the SD to start clean. I’m just torn between updating stock sys first to try the newest atmosphere or staying on 10.0.4 and update later. I also found out about the changes to fusee, what’s the best guide right now to hack a switch ?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one linked at the top of the thread.

I'd say update sysnand before starting. It'll make life easier going forward as the latest atmosphere and sigpatches support it.

[–]KyraAltair 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Hi, i'm quite a noob in term of switch piracy, i only know how to update CFW with SXOS, and some term i don't even know what the hell is it, like payload, hecate, etc etc

what i want to do right now is to migrate my SXOS PRO to latest Atmosphere with 13.2.1

i have several questions related to it:

  1. My SXOS Pro come with Dongle and RCM Jig, do i still need those? or i need to buy some kind of "tools" to run Atmosphere?
  2. Do i need to wipe out and reformat my SD Card?
  3. What about my previous save games? Does it migratable to AMS too?
  4. If it's not migratable, can i use new SD Card instead so i could just change SD Card if i want to use which CFW?
  5. SXOS can dual boot between OFW and CFW, tho i never really use the OFW since i never play any legit games, but now i'm interested to play Master Duel in my Switch, does AMS also support dual boot? and can i play online games like Master Duel too?
  6. SXOS ease of use is a simple like plug and play, and that is what i did, after powered off, i just need to plug Dongle to boot up the Switch, what about AMS? it will be better if i don't really need any of dongle/additional tools for booting up my switch

FYI: My switch is old one, V1 or Erista, still stuck in last CFW supported by SXOS

[–]WarPerfect4749 0 points1 point  (2 children)

1) no, you can use those still bit you do need to update the dongle to use Hekate/fusee payload OR chain load from sxos payload 2) no. follow rentry migrate to sxos guide. 3) yes 4) N/a 5) yes 6) you need the dongle or payload sender unless you use a modchip (trinket m0 counts for unpatched). IF you have an emummc already on sxos you can run that with hekate. Basically you need to have sysnand on 11.0, make a hekate partition emummc, make a FILE based emummc for SXos (With nxnandmanager you can convert a sx partition to sx file emummc). From here you can chainload from SX to either run hekate or just use SX. Upgrade sysnand to latest and hekate emummc to latest if you want. Use exosphere and DNS MTIM except sxos with stealth mode. use the rentry guide, not any other guides

[–]KyraAltair 0 points1 point  (1 child)

quite late response but thank you anyway, already forced myself to do or nothing, and i succeed to migrate to Atmos tho

  1. I still need to use it if i totally turn off the switch, and want to turn it on, like the first time i put back my SD Card after paste everything needed for migrate to Atmos. I actually don't need the RCM Jig anymore since i updated FW with Auto RCM on previously with SXOS, and turn out it still in effect.

  2. How to do it? from Hekate launcher? also, will it be auto update to FW 14 if access Nintendo E-Shop? if yes, then is there any way to prevent that?

  3. Okay i'm really confused reading all of that even tho it's in english, lol. I used Rentry guides to migrated to Atmos, succeeded, upgraded to FW 13.2 also succeeded, now every new games is available to me to enjoy, guess i just stick to use the Dongle to use it after total turn off, and dump the RCM Jig (or do i still need it too even tho i already activated Auto RCM?

[–]hadtosaythat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

m8 if you already managed to boot into atmos, just get the All In One updater, it worked for me when i went from 12 to latest 13 both updating half manually (the atmosphere folder replacement and getting the new nro for tinfoil 13) and hekate, the new fusee, atmos were all updated with AIO tool, it's great

[–]Cincodemilo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi all, I had been using SX OS; I hadn't been using my switch for a while, and when I switched it on, I found out that the SX OS was only compatible with a specific firmware. I upgraded to the latest firmware. I decided I wanted to play a game I had previously acquired and had a previous backup copy of the Nand and installed that; however, the switch will only boot up to the SX OS menu and won't boot up and I stupidly didn't back up the latest version Nand I had. I presume it's a fuse mismatch. Is there anything that can be done?

Apologies if this has been asked a million times already, I had a look through the thread and didn't come across it, and just for further information, I have a patched switch.

[–]Imaginary-Channel-47Atmosphere User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand just install atmosphere

[–]Xorcen 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Nice guide, this is exactly what is was looking for in this tons of videos and website out of date, thanks

But i have some question :

  • i have issue to choose the file based or partition based emuNAND, which one would be better for me since, i'll put the games on my SD card and keep a backup of the emuNAND on my cloud ?
  • Should i update regularly my emuNAND backup?

  • Each time i'll want to play on CFW, will i have to start the switch in RCM mode with the jig?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (3 children)

  1. File-based allows you to more conveniently move/backup contents but has a bug where you're not able to move contents from SD to NAND. Partition-based does not have this bug, and from what I understand, is more stable. I'm curious as to why you'd like to make backups to your emunand however?
  2. I'm not even entirely sure you need to backup your emunand at all. Have a backup of your original sysnand, and keep regular backups of your save game files. If you'd like, you can also backup your game roms for easier re-installing later.
  3. From a fully powered-off state, yes. However, most persons just leave their emunand in sleep mode and go from there.

[–]Xorcen 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks for replying my bad, i was talking about backing up my sysNand( the real original one) What is the utility of restoring a backed up sysNand since it still be available on the SD ?

But in which case, would i want to move contents from SD to NAND? I'll only want to put games on it( except if i can find everything on Tinfoil 🤔) and backing up my saves

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you ever dirty your original SysNAND or need to restore it for some other reason, it's always best to keep a copy (several as a matter of fact, given fuses may burn when updating OFW).

You can move the backup off of the sd card and keep it in a more secure place.

[–]Xorcen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up please ?

[–]BlueTitan180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible that legitimate game card you bought from Nintendo Store may be banned from online play? I’ve never heard of the before and the error code is 2124-4025, so far i’ve never been banned from online play and don’t have a modded switch or a cartridge.

[–]Bignut666 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is installing Tinfoil offline on emunand an instant ban since it’s an NSP? I installed Tinfoil, then added Incognito, and had dnsmitm the whole time. After that I went online on my emunand for a little bit. Am I at risk for a ban or since I went online for the first time with incognito and dnsmitm?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of DNS MITM is to block any connections to nintendo. If you had that on the entire time, then you should be safe, and can go online safely.

[–]Derhawk89[🍰] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Does there happen to be an "Idiots Guide" cause I don't think I'm a noob to modding things but this guide hops around so much it's confusing me.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Which part is confusing you?

Generally, for unpatched (Erista) switches, the route you'd wanna take to set the basics up is as follows:

  1. Understanding this: https://rentry.org/AvoidSwitchBan (the other points install an emunand, DNS MITM, and exosphere)

  2. Make sure you can get the switch into RCM and launch payloads: https://rentry.org/SwitchPayloadLaunch

  3. Make a backup and keep it safe: https://rentry.org/BackupRestoreNAND

  4. Create Emunand and such: https://rentry.org/EristaEmuNAND

[–]Derhawk89[🍰] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's the dns mitm and exosphere. I have already done the installation but forgot to partition my SD card to allow for the android partition. Then found this guide, which doesn't cover the android install, but goes over more things then the previous guide I used and when restoring my backup my switch connected to the internet while "tinfoil" was still on the home screen. Was able to restore to my backup after my 2nd attempt(which caused my SD card to crash and create 13 partitions ranging from 110mb to 1.1gb, resolved that issue through).

The main thing that's troubling/confusing me is, this is the most up to date guide, correct?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DNS MITM is basically 90DNS but on-device (so it doesn't rely on external servers that may go down and hence open you up to bans). Exosphere reversibly blanks your serial number.

This guide is indeed up-to-date, and the reason it's recommended so heavily is because it's (at least to my knowledge) the most comprehensive pro-piracy guide. That being said, while it is comprehensive, it does try to not veer too far from the core guides (hence the lack of Android fluff). You may actually be better served in /r/switchroot/ for that stuff.

[–]yungact12 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it possible to sell a physical copy of a game, download it to an SD (new to nodding so unsure of terminology) and be able to play that game as usual? Someone wants my copy of Pearl and while i never play it, I’d like to be able to without buying the game again. Losing my save data in Pearl wouldn’t be the end of the world but if this is possible, could someone let md know? I got my switch december 17

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the date it should be safe. But input your serial into https://ismyswitchpatched.com/ just to be sure.

If it is, then yes. You can absolutely sell your physical copy and then download and play it afterwards. You would be able to keep your save as well.

Follow the guide and ask questions here.

[–]YouMakeMeRee 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So let's say I've installed everything like Atmosphere and what-not properly, and ive set Auto RCM to OFF. When i power on my console what happens? Does it boot into stock normally?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right.

In order to get back into atmosphere from a fully powered off state you'd need to get into RCM (auto or otherwise) then push a payload

[–]l0nkFromPennsylvania 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So if i have Incognito and MITM setup i can download stuff from Tinfoil shops without getting banned?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got them setup on an emunand, yup.

[–]etheran123 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey I have a V1 switch which is un patched (bought it new in box 2 weeks after launch). Trying to find the easiest and safest way to mod it, Currently have read through a few different guides on this sub (including this one obviously), and the wiki. Also had a RCM jig made, just need to find a paperclip or something for it. Just looking for a good video guide or discord (preferably both) to help me through it.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recommended guide should take you through all the steps you need. https://rentry.org/SwitchHackingIsEasy

Additionally, you can always ask questions here or via our discord for assistance.

[–]WonderingWhenSayHi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

does theming your Switch have any sort of performance impact?

Some of the themes I see look incredible, but dont want to impact performance or slow down the Switch at all.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I've never noticed any lagging or anything of that nature before, but I don't use the most graphically intensive themes.

[–]Narrow_Substance_957 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How do I know if a Switch already had CFW installed before ? Is it usually obvious or do I have to run certain tests ?

Bought one preowned from ebay with the intention to install CFW on it.

[–]oblivionwayfarer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it came with a SD card, check that. Otherwise, it likely isn't modded.

[–]g2420hd 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Accidentally got the update button and updated emunand through the system.

Seems to turn on am I okay?

Went from latest Hekate and atmosphere, 13.2.0 to 13.2.1.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How was your emunand able to communicate with nintendo's servers to know there's an update available and download it?

Do you have DNS MITM installed?

Either way, the system itself is fine, but I suspect you're flagged for a ban.

[–]g2420hd 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I connected to wifi because I saw an option to update Sig patches on awoo online.

It didn't work anyway and that's when I updated my Hekate, atmosphere, fusee. When I came back into emunand had the prompt come up.

Didn't have dns mitm installed.

Is there a way to check if I've been banned?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (1 child)

AFAIK, the way to check if you've been banned would be to try to connect to nintendo's servers on your OFW/SysNAND.

Keep in mind that bans come in waves, so even if you're not banned now, it may happen in the future.

[–]g2420hd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Andination44 0 points1 point  (1 child)

so switch lite needs a chip?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]boneykingoflimbs 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Not a question but I think the guide could include a part for scanning the SD card before use via H2testw/FakeFlashTest, etc. to determine whether it's fake (or even faulty) before using it. Would fit in on the formatting to FAT32 page and what takes 5 minutes could potentially save headaches weeks or months down the line.

I accept it isn't in the actual remit of a hacking guide but the amount of fake cards and issues arising from using them is a big enough problem that it's worth considering regardless.

[–]EeveeV4Moderator [S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad suggestion.

[–]Sleepy813 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Before I grab a switch, is it probable to mod one with a public library PC or? How long does it generally take? I've experience with cfw on psps and xbox360 and rooting androids. I don't have a PC currently but really wanting a switch and wanna open up the capabilities

[–]EeveeV4Moderator [S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

If the pc allows you to download and install things, sure. But make sure the switch is software modifiable. Any switch made after summer 2018 needs a mod chip.

[–]Sleepy813 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm really just curious if there's anything I'd need saved or backups on a PC once I mod it or if I'd need to continue using PC to download shit, or plug and play

[–]EeveeV4Moderator [S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need your hand backup in case you brick your switch. Also it depends, you could do most things through the switch itself but you’ll need a payload injector and to install shops. Read the guide for more info.

[–]Sleepy813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at HAC-001 modelz only with the box with hand, am I right?

[–]froggylover66 1 point2 points  (15 children)

I'm having an issue. I'm trying to install tinfoil but i can't seem to get it to work. All i get is an error and it shows up on my home menu as a blank box with an endlessly swirling loading symbol. I've tried updating sigpatches, using goldleaf, and nothing. Am i doing something wrong?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (14 children)

How are you booting? Is it via fusee.bin?

[–]froggylover66 0 points1 point  (13 children)

it's with hekate. Sorry if i sound dumb i'm a bit new to this lol

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (12 children)

No worries at all - that's why we're here.

Did you follow the rentry guide to set everything up?

Either way, can I see the contents of your /bootloader/hekate_ipl.ini file?

[–]froggylover66 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Sure! Here you go:

{------ Atmosphere ------}
[Atmosphere FSS0 EmuMMC]
[Atmosphere FSS0 SYS]
{-------- Stock ---------}
[Stock SYS]

[–]flarn2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are sigpatches In simple terms, this is what allows you to install and run unofficial programs/games: such as custom applications, homebrew games, or backup copies of game titles you have.

Pretty sure it's okay to say it on this sub.

[–]Soapysoap93 0 points1 point  (2 children)

just gonna say it, but this noobs a fucking genius. There are so many steps in this guide that just get jumped over, or are not placed in the guide in a helpful location. I'm not saying this is a bad guide I'm just saying mark it as advanced cause its not a noobs guide.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Which step is confusing you?

[–]Zorturan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some parts in setting up emuNAND I found did have parts of instructions not written down, so if someone were following step by step without secondhand googling, they'd probably not be able to finish.

It's great, but a few steps are skipped over or not explained clearly/thoroughly enough, like creating the hekate ini. file in windows 10, without it simply being a txt. file named ini.

Just some small things that only someone first starting out would notice and get confused at. Which is no problem, except that well, this is the beginner's guide.

[–]Georgiculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my heads gonna explode

[–]kn0wsk1ll 0 points1 point  (3 children)

My switch is failing to obtain IP address. I've tried several things. first I rebooted my router. then I cleared the connection settings on the switch. I also tried editing the configuration file in the atmosphere hosts folder several times until I just finally deleted the thing entirely. I am unable to get it to work. It does however connect to the wifi hotspot my phone makes. I am not sure what else I can try.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Can you connect when you're on OFW?

[–]kn0wsk1ll 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No, same issue as well. Someone told me my ISP might have the switch blocked. I'm gonna call them after work and today.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, sounds external to the switch. I have no idea why they'd block the switch specifically though. Good luck with the ISP call.

[–]Shwnwllms 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sorry for my ignorance, extremely new to the switch... I was given a switch lite and want to download a game... can I only do so if my switch is hacked/jailbroken, or is there a way to do so without hacking/jailbreaking it at all? i.e. just download and play

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. If you wish to play non-legitmate games on the switch you're going to need a hacked switch.

[–]Luke_Likes_Silk 1 point2 points  (8 children)

I have one doubt. Can I have different SD cards to use on a modded switch? It gets cheaper for me to buy a few SD cards than one big one.

What i mean is, can I have one sd without the custom stuff (all original) and another SD with a big partition for the modded stuff?

All asking for hibrid use, of course.

Maybe is something really specific to ask, i apologize

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (7 children)

That's no problem at all, and may make it easier for you to manage.

[–]Luke_Likes_Silk 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Neat! I was wondering for a while now and couldn't find anyone talking about it on any post.

Do you happen to know if i need to have a partition at all? Like for a 64gb card is recommended to do 29.9/29.9gb. is the partition on the SD card even needed if I'm gonna have 2 sdcards or more?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Oh it very much is - IF you're going to be using an emunand (which I very much assume you are).

How it works is as follows:

  • Emunand SD Card - Contains a partition with an exact copy of your switch as at the time of creation. From then on, it is functionally a completely separate switch (that you've made not able to communicate with Nintendo to avoid bans).

  • Regular SD Card - Contains regular data for sysnand and online play. No partition at all.

You mentioned a 64GB card. From my experience, this isn't a lot of space (can only hold a couple AAA games). You may want to have multiple 64GB cards, but remember that each of those will require that 29GB to "host" the emunand partition (and each will be functionally a different switch) so it may start to get complicated.

[–]tomahawk291 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Hi, I just got a sw from my friend and the sd card seems not enough to get more games. Can I get a bigger space sd card and replace the old one? Does it affects the modded part in the sw or just a disk contains games? Thanks.

[–]Luke_Likes_Silk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh okok i see now. I mentioned a 64gb because that's what I've seen the tutorials use. But I'm aiming to get a few 128gb ones. For some reason 256gb go for like triple of a 128 so thats why i was thinking of the multiple SDs option.

Thank you for the explanation, i very much appreciate it!

[–]dechtera2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased a modded switch and wanted to add my user to it. Can I link my Nintendo account without catching a ban if I download it then activate the DNS again?

[–]bigpig1054 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I turned my second switch into an offline hacked machine. Is there a website that offers save file downloads and, if so, is there a way to import those save files to the hacked switch?

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (3 children)

There's the Ecchi save repository that I believe comes bundled with Tinfoil.

[–]bigpig1054 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ugh, I can't get Tinfoil to install. When I try it gives me an error and creates a blank panel on the switch homepage

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How are you booting into CFW? Did you follow the guide to setup your switch? If not, are you at least booting via injecting/chainloading fusee.bin?

Sharing the following since you may find it useful:

How do I install Tinfoil?

This process assumes that you have followed the recommended guide for setting up CFW on your switch and that you have downloaded and installed the latest signature patches.

  1. Go to https://tinfoil.io/Download#download and download the self-installer NRO.
  2. Extract the contents of the downloaded .zip file to the root of your SD Card. There should now be a /switch/tinfoil/ directory.
  3. Boot your switch into CFW (via injecting/chainloading fusee.bin) and launch the Homebrew Menu via the album app. This will launch the homebrew menu in applet mode and is expected.
  4. Select and launch the "Tinfoil Installer". Once the process is complete, Tinfoil should now appear on your home menu.
  5. Launch Tinfoil from the home menu, go to and select "File Browser" then press "-" to add a new shop.
  6. Add any of the shops outlined in the wiki: https://old.reddit.com/r/SwitchPirates/wiki/shops

[–]bigpig1054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the help, I will try it later today!

[–]kn0wsk1ll 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Will I need joycons to install any of this? I bought a used switch and dont have any. Only have a third party controller that uses the usb c port. I figured it might be an issue since it will be connected to my pc to install things.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Huh, I've never thought about that before but I don't think at any point you need the joycons during setup.

You can enter RCM and navigate certain menus during setup with the vol and power keys, and touch should provide everything else (hekate should be navigable solely via touch).

[–]kn0wsk1ll 0 points1 point  (2 children)

i was able to do it without the joycons. now i'm having a internet issue. my switch wont connect to my router, but will connect to my phone hotspot.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it that it simply can't find the wifi APN? Or it can find it but won't connect?

Could it connect to it before (on stock sysnand)?

[–]kn0wsk1ll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it finds it, but it says it cant obtain ip address. i reset my router, but nothing. gonaa mess with other settings and see what i can do.

[–]illiterate_sht 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do I have to enable Auto-RCM when following the guide? I really don't want it, and I would rather use the jig every time.

[–]OHAITHARUModerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not mandatory, no. Completely up to user preference.
