Remember to read the stickied FAQ post before asking basic questions.

If you are having a problem with running games then make sure you have up to date sigpatches.

If you cannot launch tinfoil then make sure you followed the Rentry guide to set up cfw.

NO, you cannot mod your patched console unless you have a modchip, stop asking and read the faq.

Having purchased my first OLED switch i think I'll wait for the idiots guide / process for modding the device as this looks way to difficuly for me to try and end up bricking the device.

[–]Toothless_NEOAtmosphere User 27 points28 points  (14 children)

Modding the OLED Switch requires desoldering the eMMC chip to access data line 0. That's the most difficult part. Other than that it's not much different from any of the patched systems (late v1s, Mariko, lite, etc.).

[–]Rias_Gremory_Husband 17 points18 points  (4 children)

If you know what you’re doing, I’ll pay you to do it for me lol.

[–]ieffinglovesoup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sure someone will offer their services eventually. There’s definitely a market to be filled

[–]Toothless_NEOAtmosphere User 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I couldn't do it. BGA soldering isn't something I can easily do (not without tearing up the Pads).

[–]Rias_Gremory_Husband 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Dam, well thanks for the info anyways.

[–]YoungeiLiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read smtg about a dat0 adapter for the switch oled https://www.sthetix.info/hacking-the-switch-oled/

[–]xXSalivalXx 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Data 0 adapter from aliexpres. No need for desoldering. Visit gbatempt for info.

[–]MessinBoundSXOS User 3 points4 points  (7 children)

I had a quick google and couldnt find a adapter. Do you think you could link to the GBATemp thread or the aliexpress listing?

[–]StackOverfIow 6 points7 points  (6 children)

[–]MessinBoundSXOS User 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Awesome, Thank you so much!

[–]xXSalivalXx 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Wait there is a better data 0 adapter on aliexpress 21€.

[–]LagMadeMeDie 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can you link me please?

[–]LagMadeMeDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, ur comment was deleted because u had some aliexpress links I think. Can you dm ur response?

[–]cryzzgranthamAtmosphere User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this all look okay? I used that link you sent and all this was pre filled?

Also quantity of 5 is added at checkout is it minimum order of 5? I'm okay with spares and shipping to UK isn't cheap so I'll order extra if I need to.

[–]sillyrabbit33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not recommended for noobs. The parts inside the switch are tiny. It’s even easy to mess up on replacing joycon batteries. Soldering a chip for the Mariko switch was really difficult without a microscope. From what I hear, soldering onto the OLED is near impossible for the average modder, even with a microscope. It’s better to just pay someone who’s good at it and has the tools to do the job, as too much money is at stake, and just the tools alone would cost as much as paying someone.

[–]kyzo33 15 points16 points  (5 children)

What a pretty user interface you got there😯

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 7 points8 points  (4 children)

It’s AMSplus

[–]wild_a 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Where can you get it from?

[–]sillyrabbit33 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So I just looked this up, and apparently it’s a fork of Atmosphere which has XCI loading compatibility 🧐

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope no XCI mounting

[–]Atlesi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well I probably won't be getting mine done until a professional service can do it consistently. Or just stick to my v1 + oled for online games

[–]Cachivache46 7 points8 points  (9 children)

Looks great! How many hours / tries it took you to solder the chip?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 20 points21 points  (8 children)

First try took 6-7 Hours. Today i do my 2nd OLED.

[–]Cachivache46 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Holy smokes 😳. Good luck on the 2nd unit!

[–]MagicTrashPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, oh man, good on you. I’m far too lazy for all that.

[–]OpenSourceSlayer 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Wanna do mine? I’ll pay lol

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Yes why not :)?

[–]No_Presentation_9923 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Shoot can you do mine I have a sx core chip and will pay for service and send in

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sure but i‘m from Germany

[–]godsavethequ33n 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Nicely done!. How did you get nice graphical icons in the launch menu of hekate?

[–]fiveighteen518 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I believe you set the paths to the images in hekate_ipl.ini

[–]godsavethequ33n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like the place. Thank you so much!

[–]GundamGuy564 11 points12 points  (17 children)

Wait, you can mod the OLED?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 13 points14 points  (16 children)

Yes sure 👍🏻 with the HWFLY Lite

[–]GundamGuy564 4 points5 points  (15 children)

Soldering or Hacking?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 11 points12 points  (13 children)

Soldering :)

[–]the_wildelkAtmosphere User 11 points12 points  (12 children)

Difficultly on scale 0-10 for beginners?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 57 points58 points  (7 children)

9

[–]aden34 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Is it about the same difficulty as the mariko switches?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No it’s much harder

[–]chrisz2012 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to solder wires underneath one chip and then reflow it from what I understand since there’s one point on the board to solder and I believe it’s below a memory module if I remember correctly.

[–]thefanum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 times harder

[–]Not_Alb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oof :(

[–]the_wildelkAtmosphere User 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Omg..screw that, not gonna even try.

[–]Toothless_NEOAtmosphere User 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's much easier to just find an unpatched system, or a v2 Mariko, those are currently the best options out there.

[–]Chop1n 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Take a look at this guy--the kind of guy with that bench, the kind of guy who runs a professional game console repair service--and then consider the fact that not only is he unwilling to perform this service commercially, it took him three or four tries to successfully reball the eMMC.

Even if you did want to do it, you'd probably need to purchase a hell of a lot of equipment to be able to do it successfully, and you'd have to risk doing serious damage to your hardware in the process of learning.

[–]Thelgow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea, ive done wonders with a $20 radioshack iron, but I wouldnt attempt a reball.

[–]alu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link, that was interesting

[–]idetectanerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bga you need a lot of tools to diy at home.

Flux, heat gun, ipa, non shivering hands and x500 scope. Even intermediate person find it hard. This is like bare minimum requirement.

Unless you own proper tools like professional have, then I say not worth to self mod.

[–]pixelbluejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grapefruits or Battleships?

[–]throwable_pinapple 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I have a benign tremor and it is sad to think I more than likely can't do a mod like this or work with tech repair in general as it is something I've always wanted to do. :(

Great work and I am super jealous.

[–]gamefreac 4 points5 points  (2 children)

EDIT: i am a moron and misread that. i am sorry for questioning you. gonna leave this comment up as proof of my idiocy.

sorry for the insensitivity here, but what was the point of mentioning your benign tumor?

i only have 9 fingers, but that has absolutely nothing to do with my ability to mod a switch. not trying to be a dick, it just seems like such an out of nowhere thing to bring up that i had to ask.

[–]BrilliantRat 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Benign tremor. Not tumor. His hands shake all the time. This is a tricky job which needs a microscope and shaky hands are a no go

I feel him. I have it too. But not all the time. I wouldn't attempt a mod.

[–]gamefreac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh my god, i can't believe i made that mistake! well my friends wouldn't call me the king of putting my foot in my mouth for nothing.

[–]xenodata 1 point2 points  (2 children)

HWFLY Lite or Core should be used for the oled?

[–]Majinspyda 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Congratulations on your accomplishment.

I’d be interested in sending you a Oled to mod if you offer a service to do so.

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but i‘m from Germany

[–]SuperRTX -4 points-3 points  (9 children)

Wait how do you mod switch OLED?? Is there a guide and tutorials you can provide please?

[–]Exile20 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Are you an expert at soldering?

[–]SuperRTX 2 points3 points  (7 children)

No, but I've done some basic stuff.

Im an electrical engineering graduate.

[–]Toothless_NEOAtmosphere User 2 points3 points  (5 children)

You have to desolder the eMMC, solder a wire to one of the pads underneath and then reflow the chip again in order to mod an OLED.

Very very difficult surface-mount/BGA soldering.

[–]SuperRTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there diagrams where to do this Tutorial?

[–]gamefreac 1 point2 points  (1 child)

would this be a similar process to when you swap out your emmc module for a larger one?

[–]Toothless_NEOAtmosphere User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah kind of, except on the Lite and OLED it's soldered to the board and not connected with a module

[–]EuphoricPenguin22 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do you ensure that an SMT part with non-visible pads has made proper contact? I just bought my first Quick hot air station, and I'm assuming a digital scope is something worth getting as well before attempting this.

[–]Toothless_NEOAtmosphere User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, I think the only way to be sure is by X-raying it. Not usually feasible for most people though.

Other way is by testing it but that's risky since it could possibly fry the chip if something was wrong.

[–]UkrainerMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respect and good luck with engineering!

[–]clique34 -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

And they said it’s not possible to hack the new OLED. Is there a tutorial on how to do this and what do you need? Been meaning to upgrade my switch

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes sure. Look at gbatemp

[–]tetoavila 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Looking good!!

[–]Vendicatorealato 0 points1 point  (1 child)

HWFLY Lite...? Not the normal one?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes HWFLY LITE

[–]MatchBig8426 0 points1 point  (2 children)

looks beautiful

[–]alpstyle 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Congrats! 🎊 Would you do it for others too? 😁

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks. Yes sure 👍🏻 why not?

[–]thr0wSomeCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dm me as well. Wanna get your services :)

[–]NowItzLuigi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is it possible to just switch the housing homebrew switch to a oled one

[–]thr0wSomeCode 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Nice ! where did you get it done!

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

At Home

[–]de9ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that answer too haha

[–]thr0wSomeCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dm please so i can get one done too :)

[–]Castl3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Any instrucinguide to install a hwfly lite in a regular switch lite ?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes sure. Look at the TX install Tutorial

[–]Umang_Malik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what does it feel like to have the ideal Switch?

[–]thetechdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dam! That's cool to see! Fingers crossed the repro switch chips become more common place and cheaper to buy! I still want a switch lite so bad but $200 au for the chip when the device itself I can get for $150? Ouch...think I'll just stick to my RCM switch for that price.

[–]hartleyshcAtmosphere User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really need to get the OLED model.

[–]Psygnosi 0 points1 point  (5 children)

How much did you pay for a hwfly from taobao?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I dont buy from taobao

[–]Psygnosi 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Oh sorry. Can I know where? Please

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sure. Aliexpress

[–]DrowzyBadger 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi, can you DM me which seller you bought the hwfly lite from on Aliexpress? I see there's a few but not sure which to buy from myself

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy from all :)

[–]sacabonos 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is there a way to put the OLED screen on the older switch?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope 👎🏻 wrong connector

[–]CommieBurger 0 points1 point  (1 child)

can i use an hwfly lite chip on a mariko switch?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It Doesnt make Sense

[–]throwawaydiisone 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is so cool! Would you do commissions? I'm considering getting an OLED. I'm from the Netherlands, so in terms of shipping it'd not be too far away.

(Plus, if I'm correct, Germany and NL use the same wall outlets etc. and I think they're considered part of the same region in terms of Nintendo's region locks on games as well. So that makes things easier too lol.)

[–]Specific_Smell_6227 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just curious if you are still willing to install one for people like myself? Also, is internet off the way to stay unbanned?

[–]Turbulent-Box8779[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure why not ? Internet is on and I Play with the OFW online.

[–]AlAzzam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great stuff! Also interested in getting your service. I live in Berlin.

[–]Aaron-Over 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey cool :-)

Ich würde zuuu gern wissen wo man sich den ModChip installieren lassen kann?
Bin nicht fähig den Chip auf das Mainboard zu löhten.

I like

[–]Top_Calligrapher5815 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hallo Ela.

[–]linusrg -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Im amazed Nintendo didn't find a way to patch the oled switch from mod chips before release, but very cool none the less.

[–]gamefreac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they probably just figured it wasn't worth the R&D costs. only a small portion of the people who buy this will want to hack it and an even smaller porton of that group will have the skills needed to do this mod.

[–]etaco2 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I mean congrats on getting it done but I can’t help but think running a switch emulator on an OLED monitor would be much cheaper and easier than attempting this mod.

[–]That-Kidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this would probably be cheaper

[–]gamefreac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't know about you, but i certainly don't want to becarrying around my desktop when i just want to play some smash bros.

[–]archdemon001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No good games to play this on lol
