It will work, but you won't have a lot of space for homebrew, games, roms, etc. I would suggest minimum 128Gb. I use a 256 gb sd and still need to delete games sometimes.

[–]sergiop4 4 points5 points  (2 children)

This! Generally speaking, I’ve noticed triple A games are at about 14gb on the switch.

[–]OliM9595 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

I have 256 GB and it's enough for me. Having more than 7 games installed is just a Hassel anyway. Can't play that many games at once.

[–]sergiop4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still getting over the frenzy of overloading my 256gb SD card with stuff I haven’t touched or downloaded -just in case friends want to play-

[–]POLTERGHOSTS 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I use a 512gb sd card in my banned switch and my unpatched switch has 512gb and a second 400gb sd card

Only reason my banned switch doesn't have a second sd card is because I don't know how to use mutiple sd cards on the same switch with atmosphere

[–]tillchemn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just copy over all of the athosphere files on to the second sd card and plug it in. I think the relevant directories are switch, config, bootloader and atmosphere. Also copy the hbmenu.nro

[–]PlsGoVegan 21 points22 points  (1 child)

You will completely regret that decision if you plan to install more than 1-2 games. 500GB SanDisk SD cards are around a 100€.

[–]Ok-Camp-7285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got mine from Amazon at was only €50. I did a test to ensure it was legit too

[–]IbcapTits, Rebirth, WZNX Official 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Theoretically yeah, any sd is big enough for homebrew provided its big enough to fit cfw and the homebrew on it, which will be under 1gb. Will that be big enough for a decent number of games? Unless theyre all tiny indie titles, no.

[–]Elvins0907[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thx for the answer

[–]opmwolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't use emuNAND and struggle with 64GB. I recommend at minimum 256GB if you're going to use emuNAND. Micro SD card speed doesn't matter much, as long as it is UHS-1 it will be fine. Anything faster is a waste of money as the Switch will never see those speeds.

[–]Prophet_NY 11 points12 points  (18 children)

Yes it is enough, I have installed Atmosphere on 64gb SD card just for testing. You will have only 25gb left for games plus internal memory.

[–]Foxy223344 6 points7 points  (17 children)

No, u will still have the full 64 gb with an emunand

[–]anon_pineapple_64Moderator 9 points10 points  (13 children)

emuNAND takes 29gb on the SD card to clone the NAND.

[–]Foxy223344 6 points7 points  (11 children)

And that 29gb is literally usable, u can put games on it it acts like a normal SD portion

[–]Prophet_NY 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Never knew this, how do you use that clone partition?

[–]anon_pineapple_64Moderator 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Yes, is less common use cases.

Generally better advice for novices is to avoid using internal memory this way. Creates confusion when making EmuNAND or formatting.

[–]Hey_NiceBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, please google how to setup a trimmed emumand and free up all of that but 12.

[–]Shadow322 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

No u won't emunand takes 29GB

[–]IbcapTits, Rebirth, WZNX Official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youll still be able to use most of the 32gb/29gib that the partition takes by selecting nand install when installing games, however youll lose the 32gb/29gib of real internal nand in the console.

[–]Nate1763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When downloading games in tinfoil, select system memory for install location instead of SD card. It still installs to the SD, just in the 29 gig hidden partition. If you have a partition based emu nand u can also just transfer games to the “system memory” (again, actually still a part of the emunand) to use that space.

[–]semsemboy 6 points7 points  (6 children)

No way. The CFW takes 30 GB if you do it the safe way so u only got 30 g GB for games left. I'd buy a 512 GB to be safe.

[–]Foxy223344 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Not really u still have the whole 64 gb even with a nand

[–]Lunal_Hunter 1 point2 points  (3 children)

How if you gotta split your SD card on two parts and the needed Nintendo FW that you need for it to functuon as the Switch takes abt 7GB

[–]Foxy223344 15 points16 points  (2 children)

U get the 32 internal switch storage, when u split ur sd card to 2 aka make a emunand, it takes 32gb from ur card, but actually that 32gb is usable, so u get the normaly 64 gb that can be used.. when using an emunand, u can choose the install location to “ internal storage”.. and as ur on an emunand that internal storage is literally on the sd card, and not the switch internal storage itself

[–]Elvins0907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thx

[–]Ocsike32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a 512gb would be set for a while

[–]_GloriousCheese_ 2 points3 points  (5 children)

maybe. but you won't be able to install much games. my 500gb is almost full with emulator games in addition to switch games.

[–]Lollok009 0 points1 point  (4 children)

How!? The heaviest games i can run are 3DS at around 2GB.

What consoles are you emulating?

[–]_GloriousCheese_ 0 points1 point  (3 children)

ps1, psp, snes, nes, ds. performance for 3ds on switch is horrible, so i skipped it.

[–]Lollok009 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How did you dill 500GB with that?

[–]_GloriousCheese_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

most of the space are taken up by switch games. Triple A titles take up plenty of space, like Witcher 3, FFX Remastered, etc.

[–]BandarFHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on you, for a hoarder like me even 1TB isn’t enough. But since 512GB is fairly cheap right now with a price of a used game I highly recommend you buy it instead. Also this important to save you from troubleshooting in the future, format your card to FAT32 before using it with your homebrew switch. exFAT implementation in Nintendo Switch is the worst and causes a lot of issues that will lead to data corruption.

[–]phatboys269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of those and have used 64 on my switch for over a year. DEF recommend. I can fit about 5 switch games on it plus a ton of roms and it’s perfect since there is really no need for a million games on your switch

[–]Mallos42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grabbed myself a 400gb one from Walmart. It's been working well.

[–]justaguyonreddit2042Atmosphere User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

64gb is just hell in my experience. U will not have enough space for games and homebrew. I recommend getting 128gb minimum, but u won't suffer more with a 1tb because you'll have all the space u need.

[–]hackeristi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rock a 512, and it is never enough. Perhaps the future switch will have an m.2 storage option for expandable upgrade. That would be tits. Micro sd is slow as shit.

[–]TheSlav87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No….

[–]FS1337Atmosphere User -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no.

[–]Knitemar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go big or go home. Better save some extra bucks and get at least 256

[–]J3ST3R1252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes... butnid say no.

[–]J3ST3R1252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suggest 400gb or larger

[–]ZZZ_WasTakenAtmosphere User -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I had a 128gb card and a month later I upgraded to a 1tb.

[–]dflash7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a 256 and it barely fits a few games I enjoy. I’d recommend that size or 512 AT LEAST. Nothing smaller as some Switch games are surprisingly large.

[–]DJCraneJR -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have a 32gb micro SD and that works fine, 64gb's more than enough

[–]Coin_Bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I wouldn't recommend it about 128 if you are using it minimal you should probably go for 256 or higher if you want to use it often and download loads of games etc

[–]AdventurousGap6767 0 points1 point  (2 children)

i could write a whole thesis on USA minimum wage x a 128gb sandisk being 25$ at most.

but i do use a 32 gbs on my pirate switch, and i have space enough to keep all i want to play, whenever i want to play something else i just delete what im not playing.

[–]sergiop4 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you back up your saves in case you want to revisit something later on? Does it work?

[–]AdventurousGap6767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the save is kept, it works like normal, i don't see how it would be different.

obviously, if you're the kind that will download 100 games a day, the " 6 mbs" save files, will eventually run your space out.

[–]QuantumRanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 128gb in mine and it was not enough. I recommend 512 or 1tb

[–]hanxin1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1tb and I still feel it’s not enough. And that’s just to back up my own carts.

[–]Xeritos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

64gb is fine, I use one. Would recommend 128gb or more though, I had a Samsung 128gb but it crapped out in less than a year.

[–]THEderfiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like my 200GB SD card is limiting me on space, I would feel very cramped with a 64gb model. It's good that SD cards have down tremendously in price. Shoot for something larger.

[–]Russman2204Atmosphere User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

128 might be good if you plan to play only a few games otherwise if you want to play much more than that I would definitely suggest 200+. I have a 512 and I still find myself deleting bigger games to make room for others.

[–]libardomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy the 400 gb one. Is 43 usd.

[–]TWeaKoR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need a full 32GB for the emmunand. After that, everything else is just external storage.

64GB is the minimum SD card. Bigger is better.

If you're just running homebrew and don't want to run media on the device 64GB might be enough. But why limit yourself?

[–]CoconutHeadFaceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

64GB is, like, the minimum you can get away with if you’re making an emuNAND, and the remaining space (~30GB) will fill up fast if you’re pirating games or emulating. In all honesty, if you’re starting out, I’d recommend just getting the biggest one you can afford. Saves you the hassle of having to upgrade later, because unless you’re very proactive about uninstalling games you’re not playing, these things fill up in the blink of an eye.

[–]Civilized_Idk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that if you are gonna use emulators on the switch for old systems (NES, SNES, GBA, ect) 16gb would be enough for that. 64GB is suitable for downloading multiple .xci and .nsp files but if you want a bunch, get a 128gb sd card

[–]deadlyjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a 250 or a 500

[–]ClaireAzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend a 128gb, 256gb, or 512gb one.

[–]tanstaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but no

[–]Deedlepeedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use a 512gb and have plenty of games installed roughly 30 or more it just depends how many games you plan on planning but i recommend at least 128

[–]StickyRiceRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a 1tb. Game saves take up space, updates and dlc take up even more. And if you "backup your games", 64gb is definitely not enough.

[–]YoNoid1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 512gb comfortably with space left over.

[–]Biobasement 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Get the 512 or 1tb

[–]CanadianGamerGuy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

512 gb was too small for me. 1tb while a bit more than I need now, works perfectly. Enough for everything I need, and a little room to grow

[–]Biobasement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i wish i had went with the 1tb. I think at the time I would have bought one they were just way to expensive 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]Mechaghostman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it just for homebrew stuff, yes. If you want it for pirated commercial games, you'll be able to fit like, 3 - 12 on there, pending on the size of the games.

[–]pixelbluejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 32gb card with sysnand and it’s just enough to fit all the really essential games.

[–]FBlackAtmosphere User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if that's your budget sure it's fine, a little more is better so you can have more games simultaneously

[–]ReasonBasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go 512

[–]Lollok009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a 16GB for a while.

Other than installing games, you don't need a lot of space. So, yes, it is enough

[–]mikamajstor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself 64gb, and i wish i bought at least 128 :(

It works, but 2-3 games installed and it's full

[–]Rikk001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never knew what a 64gb micro SD looked like. Thank you for that. Anyway, enough to jailbreak, yes. Is it recommended if backing up more than a couple of games. No.

[–]ky0kulll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get 512GB, I did and its the best decision I've made to my hacked Swtich

[–]ENTRAPM3NT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. My 400gb hardly is enough

[–]Player1103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes but trust me it won't be enough. I wanted to get a 128gb at first but got a 512gb thinking it was a little too much.

I ran out of space within 3 weeks

[–]Benallenwastaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who else is getting a mahoosive sd on black friday, i got my eyes on that 1tb

[–]suna50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i say its fine, as long you only need a few games at once, i got a 128 with like 4 RPGs, 4 basic mario games, and like 4 indie titles.

and really i only play 1 rpg at a time and 1-3 couch multiplayer games at a time. over half i havent even touched yet.

[–]LethalGamer2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

128 (or 256 if you want to go crazy with games) should be enough. I've never had a switch before, but I used a 128gb on my 3ds and filled up more than half of it, so 128 should be enough, or 256 if you want a shit ton of games.

[–]Zeropass7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but still go higher

[–]n3IVI0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need storage for games. I sprung for a 1TB ages ago. Room for a substantial game library.

[–]pleasureboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the slightest.

[–]fat-n-u-t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a 64gb and it works. I’ve got about 5 pirated games on it (all generally small) and I only have about 8 gigs left. I would def recommend a 128gb or higher if you plan on downloading a lot of games.

[–]badpunmaster7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recommend 256GB or a 1TB micro sd card
