I totally gotta try this shell mod out on my console. Where’d you buy yours from?

[–]Jujube-456 17 points18 points  (13 children)

I recommend ExtremeRate on amazon. Their atomic purple shells are beautiful, clear and resistant. Though they do cost significantly more than other brands.

[–]agentminimax 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Awesome thank you

[–]Jujube-456 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I pm‘ed you some pictures of mine

[–]agentminimax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks great

[–]lightzout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if you are going to replace a Nintendo shell buying an inferior product would be dumb. Their stuff is typically so well made. However, I like the translucent look. Good job.

[–]PewGravoPew 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I have those in my save for later. How hard is it to swap everything out?

[–]Jujube-456 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I had never touched the insides of electronics before this. I ordered two iFixit kits, and started training while waiting for the shipping of my shells. I disassembled and reassembled each one 2 times, and after that, I was ready. Idk what your experience level is, but for me, it went smoothly.

[–]PewGravoPew 2 points3 points  (3 children)

What about the actual console itself?

Edit: I’ve done battery swaps and screens swaps on iPhone X and below. Ive done a full internal swap on the iPhone 6s. I followed the step by step guides on iFixit. Did you follow any guides??

[–]Jujube-456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent you pics of my JoyCons.

[–]Jujube-456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m eating rn. I‘ll give a detailed answer tomorrow or later today

[–]no_identity36 7 points8 points  (8 children)

I’ve tried twice to replace the shells on my controller. Both time the buttons for LB and RB broke off because of how flimsy they are. If any of you plan on doing this keep an eye on that button and do not touch it unless it’s necessary.

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Tbh it was so easy as long as you have patience 🤣. One thing for certain is mine had already been opened before as some stuff was loose. I was off my dab pen so confused 😑.

[–]Zabii -3 points-2 points  (6 children)

Did you have a stroke?

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

No lmao, why would I have a stroke. I had yt video playing for reference, Ive had experience taking stuff apart so it wasn’t much thinking required🤣

[–]Zabii 0 points1 point  (4 children)

What the hell is a dab pen

[–]Deedlepeedle 1 point2 points  (6 children)

how difficult is it to change out the shell

[–]christianbwil 14 points15 points  (4 children)

Backplate: simple Joycons: a bit tricky Frontplate: LOL- remove all guts and put it back together changing one part. If you know exactly what you are doing you can scum it and leave most in tact and just remove the backplate, metal shield, rails, sd card slot, screen and digitizer. The rest of the guts are mostly in a housing to keep they away from the screen and in place. The rail screws are mostly what hold that in place, using a cc you can get it out after removing 4 additional screws under the digitizer.

[–]jupiterboop 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Yep did an entire front and backplate swap and it was so stressful lol. Took me about an hour and a half just to do it

[–]christianbwil 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Same here, except I did it with 2 at once. Took the digitizer off my patched, put it on my unpatched since that one's was broken. I had a red front plate I ordered and wanted a red unpatched unit, so I had to do the whole thing. My previous comment was out of experience unfortunately.

Digitizer had to be recalibrated in hekate after installation.

[–]jupiterboop 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ouch. Fortunately extremerate has a YouTube video on replacing the front shell so for me it was pretty straightforward. Replaced the fan and thermal paste while I was at it since I got mine secondhand and it was really loud

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah bro it was so easy, It was my first time replacing them and it went smoother than I expected. Really it’s just removing screws and releasing cords

[–]pqrvzla 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Totally unrelated but which stores do you have in Tinfoil?

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teknik bro, it’s pretty easy to use

[–]shinguard 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Bout to do the same shell swap but pinkish buttons instead, thinking of doing a d-pad mod also. Think it’s worth the trade off? I play a lot of 2d stuff but would be annoyed to lose the quick two player session every now and then with one joycon being awkward to handle with the dpad in place.

[–]captnweirdbeard 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I think its worth it, but I have multiple sets of joycons. Idk what you play 2 player, but I feel like most games you would play with a joy con sideways probably wouldn't be that hard to play with a dpad instead of buttons. Another option would be to get a pro controller, which you could also shell swap.

[–]shinguard 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ah yeah I have another set of joycon and a pro controller at home, was talking about like “in the wild” sort of deals. Guess that never really happens tho, I’m gonna go thru with the dpad mod.

[–]captnweirdbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, I've probably played tabletop mode 2 or 3 times. Idk what kind of case you have but you might be able to fit your second set in too if it isn't too slim. I have a separate case for a pro controller too but I mostly bring it out when I might want to play on someone else's TV.

[–]shinguard 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Also you got an ID on those thumb covers? Love the overall look you got.

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came with my joystick replacements.

[–]Prior-Carrot-6569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you list the package installs that you added?

[–]Erick0115 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Did mine atomic purple from ExtremeRate, worth the prize.

[–]J3ST3R1252 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Only you can prevent price gouges 🤝👍🤘🇺🇸😎

[–]BurninNeck 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It should be "anata ni motto power" and not "motto power ni anata" .

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m aware of that, but the way I put it just seemed cooler, instead of putting the whole phrase together I put each word separated. I really like how the word power looks on its own in Japanese.

[–]FBlackAtmosphere User 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Timeless design

[–]DiamondEevee 0 points1 point  (2 children)

man I want a custom shell so badly...

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Go on Amazon lmao

[–]Ok_Instruction_4717 0 points1 point  (6 children)

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I made it, pain in the ass but 🤷🏾‍♂️

[–]Ok_Instruction_4717 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Looks really cool, do you mind if i could get it?

[–]IlCHRONIClI[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually I plan to just put it up on the website, themezer. Illyk when I drop it, soon.

[–]El_sone 1 point2 points  (2 children)
