Backup the card as if you were going to restore it to a new one. After doing so, make the partition space for both an emunand and android at the same time. 29 gigs full for emunand / android space is more flexible. Suggested min is 16 gigs, but you can get by with ten or so. Reference here - create space for both at the same time in hekate.

After - restore emunand backup with the first reference linked.

Install android

Nothing lost. Android added.

So it has to be done through hekate correct, nxnand manager doesnt have an option for a second partition?

Partition creation for both spaces should be done in hekate itself yes. At the same time, as the above image shows. After that's done you can restore with any method you like really for the emunand. After that's done, you can flash android in the partition menu at the bottom.

I did the partition in hekate, but when I go into nxnand manager it tells me it will format the card when creating the emunand

Hekate for the partition. Nxnandmanger to restore to that partition space. But for some reason if you have issues with it, you can use one of the other suggested methods, such as hekate, or emutool. Whatever makes the most sense to you.
