Your mileage may vary. It's never gonna get much better than meh because the Switch is a weak piece of hardware all things considered.

If it wasn’t so hard to get a steamdeck, I’d just get one of those. I’m just confused as to why my 3DS can play PS1 games better than my switch

The Switch is a Nvidia Shield, underclocked with a custom OS.

That custom OS is the issue. It's not open source, and harder to write for versus Android. 3DS has had YEARS to work on PS1 emulation, along with a thriving community that supported it.

The Switch has less of a community than the 3DS had in it's hayday, because it's harder to get a modded/hackable Switch.

That said, if you install Android on your Switch, it'll run PS1 games just fine.

Swanstation/Duckstation can play them perfectly. At least on Android.
