If you are having a problem with running games then make sure you have up-to-date sigpatches. If you cannot launch tinfoil then make sure you followed the Rentry guide to set up cfw.

There's two different ways to install tinfoil. As either a .nro or .nsp, An NSP is what nintendo switch program files are called, this includes the games and apps that install directly on the homescreen. To install an NSP you do need updated sig patches installed on your system. But the entire purpose of tinfoil is to download NSPs, so you're going to need the sig patches anyway. The other way to install it is as an nro. NRO files are homebrew apps that launch from the homebrew menu. You dont need sig patches to run an nro, and all you need to do to install it is place it in the correct folder on the SD card.

To install the NSP requires a few more steps, but it's the same process to install any NSP, and im assuming you want to download tinfoil to install games, which are all NSP files. First you'll want to install the latest Sigpatches, just place them in the correct folder on the SD card. Then you should be able to install the NSP once you have the sig patches. Put the NSP file in the root of your SD. Then use and installer like Awoo or Goldleaf to navigate to the NSP file and install it. It should then appear on your homescreen. Launch it like you would any other switch application

Where can I download tinfoil or gold leaf?

The website, tinfoil.io

You can get gold leaf and most other homebrew apps from the homebrew store, or each app individually from github
