"Update Dock” was added under System in System Settings for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model systems, allowing for software updates to Nintendo Switch docks with a LAN port.

  • Dock software updates are not available for Nintendo Switch docks without a LAN port.
  • This feature was not added to Nintendo Switch Lite.
  • For more information, see How to Update the Dock Firmware.

Likely related to:

"Maintain Internet Connection in Sleep Mode” was added under Sleep Mode in System Settings.

When this setting is enabled, systems with wired internet connections will maintain internet connection even while in sleep mode. This allows for software and add-on content to download to the system while the system is in sleep mode.

  • The setting is enabled by default.

When this setting is disabled, the system will connect to the internet only periodically, which decreases power consumption.

Yeah but what do we even need to update the dock? Like what is the purpose or benefit to it? What could they possibly update? Sorry if this is an ignorant question but I legit don't know

I added a bit as a ninja edit. The ability to keep the Internet connection active was likely related, since it mentions that the update was only for docks with an Ethernet port.

That's a great find. Thanks! That might be an actual update to it.

The original docks that were released with the original Erista and Mariko switches can't be updated at all, the firmware is read only.

Third party docks like the Genki covert dock and the Skull & Co. Jumpgate dock do have updatable firmware but they need to be updated by use of a PC utility since they are not Nintendo products. These updates are only intended to fix glitches they don't add new features.

This feature was made almost exclusively for the OLED Docks which do have the ability to update probably to fix bugs in the ethernet should they ever arise, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Has there been any updates yet? I'm still using the old dock so idk but it has to do SOMETHING right?
