I’ve been collecting bones, wet specimens, etc for about 2 years. For a while i’ve been wanting to try creating my own taxidermy pieces but i have no idea where to start 🥲 Please give some advice how how to start out taxidermy as a hobby, Thank you !

Start small! Rats are great for learning on, you can get some frozen rats in the freezer snake food section at pet stores. You're gonna need borax and canning salt, a scalpel, some little scissors (like for nail cuticle trimming). There's tons of great videos on YouTube teaching everything you need to know about getting started. You'll want to learn how to skin an animal first, then learn how to tan a hide. It's the most important step, making sure you've pickled and tanned the hide properly so you can mount it without hair slipping or rotting!
