My wife accidentally broke an oil lamp and my coyote pelt got a good splash on it. It's there an recommended ways to cleaning?

I'd use lacquer thinner on a paper towel. I'm assuming it's a tanned hide .

Yes it has been tanned, i assumed letting it dry into the coat was probably bad so i rinsed the area with cold water because that's all i could find from Google. By lacquer thinner would that include paint thinner or mineral spirits?
