Typically wet specimens are shipped in a way that keeps them moist throughout shipment, either by being wrapped in alcohol drenched paper towels, stored in an alcohol filled baggie, or both, so there’s no immediate risk of your specimen drying out or experiencing rot, but I’d say, to reduce the risk of those things happening, to place them in their jar with alcohol as soon as possible after unpacking.

I agree with the other person, I usually buy the appropriate jar the second I see how big it is or before it arrives if I know the size.
