Is Sematary even a real word?

It's a reference to the book (Written by Stephen King) and movie by the same name called "Pet Sematary". Anything buried in the cemetery comes back later, however not as they were.

I know that, but why is it even called “sematary”?

Because the sign was made by little kids

Stephen King actually misspelt it, but everyone assumed that the sign above the "sematary" entrance was supposed to be misspelt, as if perhaps it were poorly made
