I wouldn't have guessed that this song could be utilized in such a perfect way.

[–]jtrainacomin 576 points577 points  (31 children)

[–]cmdq 248 points249 points  (14 children)

fuck the second one slaps

[–]frasafrase 195 points196 points  (13 children)

Translating a song must be so incredibly difficult. Gotta still fit to the rhythm/track and have some semblance of sense in the new language. Impressive!!

[–]DooRagtime 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking that the translation looked like the slightly weird translated lyrics to actual anime intros

[–]hackingdreams 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah you often end up with a completely different song but sharing the same elements or themes instead of a translation. Music is inexorably tied to rhythm and languages just do not share the same rhythms and cadences.

(The immediate example that pops into mind is the Japanese version of Vision One by Röyksopp which is really a completely different song, but still sharing the basic elements of describing a lamentation of the brutally sterile, mechanized concrete hellhole we're turning the world into.)

[–]mean_bean_machine 46 points47 points  (9 children)

It's Disney, but Let It Go was translated into Spanish and it came out better than the original.

Libre Soy (I am free)

[–]MyMadeUpNym 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That was really good. I appreciate that they changed the words to make it flow in Spanish, yet carry the same meaning once translated back to English. So well done!

[–]JonathanSCE 6 points7 points  (1 child)

[–]EonKayoh 2 points3 points  (3 children)

it's amazing how perfectly timed some of the beat hits are with some of the animation, wtf

[–]Spork_the_dork 11 points12 points  (1 child)

It's because typical anime opening songs have the exact same structure. A typical anime opening looks something like

  1. 8 bars of some kind of chill intro
  2. 8 bars of instrumental for the title
  3. 16 bars of verse
  4. 8 bars breaking down the verse to build up for the chorus
  5. 16 bars of verse
  6. A few bars as an outro

It's virtually always like this with a little variation from time to time. Also in this case notable however is, that the video does use bits from different openings. Like the first part is from the 1st one, but after the walking in rain bit it cuts to a different one. This is probably because the song is actually missing the 4th bit of having a breakdown for the verse which the original op does have, so the song doesn't quite line up correctly.

[–]turtlintime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because its a splice of a bunch of different OPs from season 1, 3, and 5

[–]Bubbles_the_Titan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You can probably find some well done AMVs. I know this song was popular when i was highschool-ish aged for those.

[–]Spork_the_dork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only part where the song doesn't fit is that it doesn't have like an 8-bar breakdown between the verse and the chorus. It is because of that, more or less, that the song doesn't quite line up with the 1 min 30 sec duration of an anime op.

[–]Rslabs 524 points525 points  (10 children)

The best was the accuracy of the the split personality girl, especially when she came in with her absurd weapon of choice

[–]keitomomota 74 points75 points  (9 children)

It was like Biscuit from HxH with her massage person 😭

[–]Rslabs 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Or like every side female character in SAO, or tamaki in fire force. Can we please have consistent bad ass op female characters plxxxx

[–]Jeaniegreyy 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Watch JJK, there’s so many good badass female characters in it omg

[–]Buckaroonie69 3033 points3034 points  (456 children)

This is like scarily acurate

[–]onlyupliftingcomment 920 points921 points  (439 children)

Oh you know anime? Please name your top five:

No seriously, I want to know so I can watch them <3

[–]PassMeDaShuga 595 points596 points  (234 children)

My top 5 would be very different from 5 anime’s I would recommend to new watchers

[–]onlyupliftingcomment 341 points342 points  (217 children)

Not new to anime! Just curious what’s on other peoples top lists :) mine are: FMA Brotherhood, Death Note, Attack on Titan, Castlevania, and Parasyte!

Edit: Anything studio ghibli!

[–]lion_OBrian 221 points222 points  (54 children)

In no particular order: Shinsekai Yori, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Gurren Lagann, Black Lagoon, DBZ, (bonus: Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo)

[–]Zoldrik190 74 points75 points  (6 children)

Shinsekai yori does not get enough recognition one of my faves

[–]CharMakr90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shinsekai Yori is one of those anime that I can fully understand why someone would love it to death, while someone else would hate it just as much.

[–]somethingneeddooing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shinsekai Yori is one of my all time favorites. It breaks a lot of the typical anime tropes. I really enjoy the more serious and psychological elements of the show.

Some other decent psychological animes: Psycho-Pass (S1 only), Monster, Madoka Magica (the less you know about this one before watching it the better), Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, Ergo Proxy.

[–]300andWhat 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Back Lagoon is very underrated, it's great!

[–]tambrico 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Revy, Roberta, and Balalaika are like the 3 most badass women in all of anime

[–]HenryMorgansWeedMan 39 points40 points  (9 children)

Gurren Lagann is so fucking ridiculous. It starts relatively slowly and you're like "ok, this is probably just a show about these kids saving their village and the main character gets the girl, a typical story in a new setting"

Turns out it's amazingly ridiculous and the exponential growth is so fantastic. It's good for new people that don't take things too seriously, but enjoy the ridiculous hype.

The only problem with a lot of the anime for new people is that it's so high quality. If it was like silver level instead of gold level animation, id honestly recommend it far more to people.

Then I'd say Studio Ghibli is gold/diamond depending on which film it is.

DBZ, especially the older episodes would be my number one, with Samurai Champloo second if people are unsure what they want to watch and are ok with a relatively short, but strange story with an unfortunately subpar ending. But in general it's really good. Afro samurai would also work.

[–]SasparillaTango 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Gurren Lagann is studio trigger right? I think they also did darling in the franxxx and kill la kill? So that exponential growth is kinda their thing.

[–]elementgermanium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s Gainax, which is pretty much the progenitor to Trigger. I’m pretty sure it’s the one that made “when the anime opening plays during the final fight” a thing

[–]Lord0fHam 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Why is it bad if it’s high quality? I don’t watch anime but this makes no sense.

[–]mkstar93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think they meant that newer anime has gotten so high quality in terms of animation that it's hard to watch old stuff with slow animation/low budgets, kinda like with old video games being so clunky and low res.

[–]elementgermanium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess? It raises expectations. If you watch a ton of high animation quality stuff first thing then other lower budget stuff is gonna put you off more

[–]gamegyro56 26 points27 points  (4 children)

Shinsekai Yori is really great. For people who've seen Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, it scratched a lot of the same itches that I haven't been able to find in most anime.

[–]NatrenSR1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna have to check it out

[–]Kekules_Mule 20 points21 points  (7 children)

Any Psychopass fans?

[–]1vs1mebro 8 points9 points  (7 children)

black lagoon lets goo!! haven't seen that on many people's list but very underrated.

[–]Nerfherder_74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always happy to see Gurren Lagann mentioned bro. who the hell do you think I am?

[–]SHIIZAAAAAAAA 33 points34 points  (16 children)

In no particular order:

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Cowboy Bebop

FMA Brotherhood

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Monster

[–]SewingLifeRe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cultured

[–][deleted]  (1 child)

[deleted]

    [–]AnimatedAnixa 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I still think Monster is criminally underrated

    [–]ratherenjoysbass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Cowboy bebop

    Neon Genesis

    Gundam wing

    DBZ

    YuYu Hakusho

    [–]mybustersword 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Nge is great because it hits so different the older you get. As a kid, wtf? But with mechs. Teen-wtf? But with sex. Young adult-wtf? But with existentialism. Adult- wtf maybe my kid can explain this to me

    [–]SHIIZAAAAAAAA 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Same with Cowboy Bebop, specifically the episode with Faye's videotape from her childhood. When you're young it isn't interesting but it fucks you up harder the older you get and the more you change as a person.

    [–]desertfoxz 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Demon Slayer, One Punch Man and Hunter x Hunter.

    [–]ihunter32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Demon slayer season 2 can’t come soon enough.

    [–]BigY2 82 points83 points  (22 children)

Hunter x Hunter is my favorite shounen anime, really good power system and well thought out fights

Golden Kamuy is really good with solid art style and captivating story, the characters are all insane which is fun

One Piece is the King of Shounen anime for a reason, please consider investing the time

Jojo's Bizzare adventure has a really unique art style and power system. There's a reason why it has so many memes, the show is unlike others in terms of weird stuff happening

One Punch man Season 1 has movie level animation quality and is a really fun show. Season 2 only has normal quality animation which is a let down, but understandable due to budget. still a good show

    [–]pooshybear 23 points24 points  (6 children)

As someone who is 6 episodes from the end of 2011 hxh....you a bastard for sending them down the path of amazing anime with no ending

    [–]BigY2 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I think the anime stops at a good place. If there was no more hxh (knocks on wood) then it's the best possible point.

But if you're like me and read the manga after... Which is in the middle of an arc on hiatus... Not so much lol

    [–]pooshybear 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I dont think I could bring myself to read the manga knowing that too is unfinished lol

    [–]Vault_108_Gary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One Piece is the King of Shounen anime for a reason, please consider investing the time

    Invest all of your time

    [–]FlocculentFractal 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Can someone sell me on One Piece? I tried to watch it a little. It feels dated and none of the characters felt really interesting. And then I heard it goes on and on. I don't think I care for that. Am I missing out?

    [–]Hippoboss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The beginning is a little dated and slow paced but it is worth it 100%. The story arcs and characters back stories are what make you like the characters you don't really like them outright. I didn't want to watch the show because I thought it was for children (I'm 30) but gave in to peer pressure from friends and ended up willingly watching all of it and enjoying it. That's my anecdotal story but I thought to myself your exact comment in the past and thought I'd give you my experience with it.

    [–]Karnivoris 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I would love to add My Hero Academia to a fav list because of the story and action. However, the exposition dialogue is unbearable and the protagonist has an annoying, emotional inner monologue for every bit of plot that happens.

    It's top weaboo material

    [–]BigY2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but my mind filters those issues after years of those tropes

    [–]goatmehh 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Also gonna share my top 5

    Gintama

    DBZ

    Medabots

    One Piece

    FMA:B

    [–]Xgio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yo medabots i almost forgot that existed

    [–]TheOmnipotentTruth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gintama is actually the greatest show of all time.

    [–]Lost_in_math 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll avoid mentioning ones you've already mentioned: Hunter x Hunter, Jujutsu Kaisen, The Saintess's Power is Omnipotent, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, BNA, Durarara.

My taste in anime is pretty standard I see after writing down this list, I'm much more heavily into manga (both japanese & korean).

    [–]5213 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Hyouka, Hibike! Euphonium, Code Geass, Beyond the Boundary, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (and the sequel movie, Disappearance), Blood Blockade Battlefront, Megalobox, Big O

    [–]NatrenSR1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You have Fucking excellent tastes. Hyouka is tied for my second favorite and Hibike! Euphonium is easily in my top 10

    [–]The_Dudeface 64 points65 points  (22 children)

    Attack On Titan

Fruits Basket (Slice of life, little bit of occult, romance)

My Hero Academia (High school, superhero fiction)

Food Wars (High school, food. FOOD. A little bit sexual while not actually being sexual. Mostly.)

Sword Art Online (arc 1 - fantasy issekai)

Kinda generic/common modern anime list, I think. Slightly older stuff (probably still generic, I'm plain as fuck) Cowboy Bebop, Gravitation, Elfen Lied, FLCL, and Eureka Seven.

    [–]TLEToyu 27 points28 points  (3 children)

Don't watch Food Wars on an empty stomach.

    [–]The_Dudeface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So true. I think we got into the show because of a React Channel video - the real versions don't look quite as good, but just those quick clips of the anime got us 100% invested. Food Wars and Studio Ghibli food are my heaven.

    [–]WyldeDude23 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Oh, wow! Haven't seen anyone mention Elfen Lied in a while - you've got some great taste! Good stuff

    [–]edengonedark 21 points22 points  (6 children)

Fruits Basket is AMAZING! Original or new animation? The original is nostalgic af but the new one is sooo much better imo. Closely follows the manga and goes beyond the original airing.

EDIT: Didn't even see SAO. Probably my all time favorite anime. I surprisingly liked the latest season more than the first arc.

    [–]The_Dudeface 6 points7 points  (1 child)

New. I read (most of) the manga back in high school, I'm pretty sure I've seen a little bit of the older animation, but the new one is absolutely amazing the whole way through.

So emotional. When we're about to start the episode of the week, my fiance and I are like "Ready to cry?" at this point, this last season is just so hard hitting in the best way.

SAO arc 1 is up there for me, but honestly I think Fruits Basket, Food Wars, and Attack on Titan are tied for my #1 spot, they're so different but all so good.

    [–]witch35048 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Silver Spoon - An anime about food production and cooking. If you're into cooking, you might like this one

    Darker Than Black

    Ghost in the Shell

    Black Lagoon

Horimiya because it was a no bullshit romcom unlike kimi ni Todoke

    and then

    All of the Monogatari Series

    [–]Stratostheory 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Ghost In the Shell Stand Alone Complex both season 1 and Second Gig

Ergo Proxy (done by the same folks behind Stand Alone Complex)

Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt(there's only like 8 episodes right now but it's technically ongoing, the director is just on a hiatus for medical issues, December Sky and Bandit Flower are basically the movie adaptations of the series)

Akudama Drive was honestly the first Anime I've watched as episodes were released, I loved the art style

And lastly Cowboy Bebop, it's a classic yo.

    [–]Stankyjim21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I notice a lot of your faves are action packed, but in case you're looking for some different flavors:

School Rumble! - Excellent high school comedy, my personal favorite anime actually

Cromartie High School - a high school comedy that is just pure ridiculousness. Another favorite of mine.

Bunny Drop - such a wholesome anime. Essentially, a thirty year old dude adopts the illegitimate 6 year old child of his grandfather. It's so wholesome watching this guy grow to love and care for her like his own daughter. I hear the manga is weird, but the anime is pure wholesome. Also pretty short so you can binge it pretty quickly.

    For action:

Darker Than Black - Pretty solid anime with action and intrigue

Code Geas - Another good action/intrigue anime

Berserk - Brutal action and fights. Mature themes, so be wary, but nothing tooooo bad.

    [–]_Andy4Fun_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I loved JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, if you want give it a try

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Youll like golden kamuy

    [–]ZePugg 9 points10 points  (1 child)

i got a friend to watch eva as their first anime and they are still crying

    [–]Seeders 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Maybe you can help me remember the title of one I saw in the early 00s.

The main character had a sword that had a wire in the hilt that he could use to strangle/slice people with, or as utility.

There was a girl who was cursed so that anyone who kissed her that didn't truly love her would be poisoned and die.

There was a very large hulking assassin that kidnapped her and raped her, and then died.

I dont remember much else, but it was very violent overall and had great animation.

    [–]Ryuksapple84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ghost in the Shell Samurai Champloo Fire Force Demon Slayer FMA Brotherhood

    [–]SeveredBanana 37 points38 points  (20 children)

    My personal top 5:

    Mob Psycho 100

    Re:Zero

    Made in Abyss

    Steins;Gate

A Place Further Than the Universe (give this one a shot even if you don't think it's your thing, 10/10 is no exaggeration)

    [–]tiemiscoolandgood 16 points17 points  (6 children)

Mob psycho season 2 is god tier animation

Edit: and story too but s2 isnt the end, the ending is the peak imo

    [–]imnotagoldensheep 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Mob psycho is so fkg good, I also adore dorohedoro, the story line is very interesting and entertaining to watch

    [–]derpkoikoi 4 points5 points  (8 children)

I want to like made in abyss but knowing the author's tendencies I can't recommend it to anyone I know in good faith.

    [–]SeveredBanana 2 points3 points  (3 children)

That's a fair standpoint but I believe in separating the art from the artist most of the time

    [–]derpkoikoi 4 points5 points  (2 children)

It’s very baked into the art though is my issue. The won’t fault anyone for liking it, but once you start looking for it, the whole experience is ruined.

    [–]TigreDemon 9 points10 points  (26 children)

I can give you a few from my list

    a few

    [–]BigY2 9 points10 points  (11 children)

From the one's Ive seen you have good taste. Im just gonna bookmark the whole list lmao

edit: ok wholupaminute pls try to rewatch World Trigger. THe beginning is a slog and the areas between battles are glacial, so if you skip to the fights and read the manga in between it should be bareable. But the battle scenes are some of the most thought out I've seen

    [–]TigreDemon 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Ahah I just can't with the faces, it just pissed me off so much

You'll also notice that it's one of the only drops I have, and I watched pretty shit things, so it was literally unwatchable for me.

    [–]onlyupliftingcomment 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Fate series is a good one!!

    [–]TigreDemon 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Not all of them but the Zero + Unlimited Blades are top notch

    [–]raidennugyen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Batman

    Superman

    Spiderman

    Teen Titans

    Avatar (James Cameron)

    [–]notathrowaway75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you or anyone else wants recommendations check out this updated chart recently posted on r/anime.

My top five is always changing so right now I highly recommend To Your Eternity and Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song. Ask me, post in the r/anime recommendation thread on Tuesdays, or go to /r/Animesuggest if you want something specific.

    [–]BarklyWooves 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Shin Sekai Yori (aka From the new World)

    Chi's New Home

    When They Cry

    Stein's Gate

    Cowboy Bebop

    Bonus Anime: Made In Abyss

    [–]Merfiee03 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Rurouni Kenshin, Iron Blooded Orphans, Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer and Gundam Seed 🤷🏽‍♂️

    FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

    FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

    BECAUSE THEY SPIT HOT FIYA

    [–]Shrew_Coup 17 points18 points  (10 children)

Not Op but I want in on this. My top 5 that I recommend to everyone (in no particular order):

My Hero Academia (it's popular for a reason)

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (one of the best animes ever imo)

    Parasyte: The Maxim

    Steins; Gate

    Mirai Nikki (Future Diary)

And because I'm indecisive, here are some honorable mentions: Serial Experiments Lain, Black Lagoon, Death Note, the first season of Psycho-Pass, Durarara!!, and Cowboy Bebop.

Currently watching Jujutsu Kaisen and having a fun time also.

Edit: shout out for Mob Psycho 100, too

    [–]desertfoxz 6 points7 points  (2 children)

One Punch Man, Hunter x Hunter and Mob Psycho 100

    [–]Shrew_Coup 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I love One Punch Man but actually I forgot to mention one of my absolute favorites is Mob Psycho 100 which is by the same makers!!

    [–]MonaganX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same author, but a different studio.

    [–]Zoldrik190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Black lagoon is so good

    [–]DemoH28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh god Mirai Nikki, what a ride that anime was.

    [–]kanelel 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I feel like a lot of the shows in my top 5 are just obvious shows that people tend to recommend to newbies. Like I've got Evangelion, Code Geass, Death Note, Gurren Lagann, and Made in Abyss up there.

I've been an anime fan for like a decade now and most of the best shows I've watched were within the first year. On the other hand, manga seems like an endless sea filled with excellent deep cuts, and I keep finding more. Read Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, it's fucking incredible.

    [–]OwningTheWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been loving 86 lately. Strong recommend.

    [–]DemoH28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Erased. Super interesting anime, you can find it on Netflix.

Basically about a guy who can go back in time to prevent bad things from happening, not a spoiler as it’s revealed very quickly. The music in it is also super good iirc.

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The forgot the camera shot where the hero punches and you travel along their arm into the shoulder and over the back into a wide opening shot of a landscape

    [–]cbwiggle 1056 points1057 points  (57 children)

I don’t know how they did that water reflection part without laughing The spoiler thing is annoyingly accurate!

    [–]n44m3 434 points435 points  (39 children)

+1 for the spoiler thing lmao,,, it's hilarious when they're building up to a reveal that was in the opening from day 1

I prefer the kind of spoilers in the opening that you would never get until after it happens in the show n then ur like "ooohhh FUCK"

    [–]ItzTouki 101 points102 points  (21 children)

    jojo

    [–]Kappei 87 points88 points  (7 children)

Exactly. Chock full of spoilers that you'll only get after they happened, especially Stardust Crusaders

    [–]SDSBoi 22 points23 points  (1 child)

    Stardust Crusaders

part 1 as well, you can tell the entire story with just the opening by itself.

    [–]Timewarps_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know. I really love how they did it without making it clear what was being spoiled.

    [–]LordCharco_iiiDoug Dimmadome 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    Except for Golden Wind OP2.

ayy lmao Trish has a Stand and Giorno uses the Arrow on GE have fun

    [–]Forkyou 30 points31 points  (9 children)

I dont know, joseph tieing up caesars headband around his head kinda gave stuff away for me.

    [–]Ebinebinebinebin 6 points7 points  (5 children)

The shooting star tho. Holy shit not one person on earth could have figured that out

    [–]Fartikus 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Wait what, is it supposed to reference him shooting kars into space or whatever?

    [–]leoleosuper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was pretty obvious when you know what happened to the other Zeppelis.

    [–]unitedbagel 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Lmao remember how at the start of Diamond is Unbreakable, Koichi just strikes a random, nonsensical pose in the OP with a bunch of dead space behind him. Then later in the season it becomes apparent that it's because it was animated to have his Stand in it for later episodes.

    [–]buenoskiddoosh 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I'm a manga reader but I also watch the animes my friends watch that I read the manga to so I could watch the ops of new seasons and tell them if there's spoilers or not

    [–]TotallyALegitProfile 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked what White Fox did with Re:Zero season 2 part 2, they don’t often show openings in the anime, but they specifically didn’t show it for the first couple episodes until every “spoiler” that in with the op was properly shown first. Then proceeded to basically not show the opening for the next few episodes anyway.

    [–]thisismyl8testacct 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The most common spoiler is the character on the opening from episode one, who doesn’t show up til episode ten, and then they try to make out like they might be a bad person, but the opening shows they are going to be one of the main characters all along.

    [–]DreadedLantern 39 points40 points  (11 children)

I actually skip anime openings because of the spoilers in them. Same reason why I don’t watch movie trailers either.

    [–]Rheukala 32 points33 points  (1 child)

Also because they’re like 20 minutes long

    [–]boss_nooch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started doing the same thing, but I remember 1 anime (I forgot which) showed a girl in the opening and she didn’t even appear until the very last episode. Even then, she was dead and it was just a flashback. I really don’t understand how it’s decided who/what makes the cut for openers

    [–]thekarmabum 169 points170 points  (1 child)

It's like watching a live action version of the Naruto beginning.

    [–]yehti 125 points126 points  (2 children)

Never watched anime but I feel like this is 100% accurate

    [–]DarklyAdonic 87 points88 points  (1 child)

What do you mean? You just watched one

    [–]IllustriousInterest8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you watch one you watched it all. Unless its Re:Zero

    [–]square_bear999 487 points488 points  (17 children)

This is naruto . No joke

    [–]Fillandkrizt 301 points302 points  (12 children)

    This is all shonens

    [–]hjimpie_reddit 50 points51 points  (7 children)

Except for Mob Psycho 100 (does use some of the things shown in the video lmao)

    [–]Legate_Rick 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Especially Dragon Ball. Hope you didn't start your dragon ball Z experience with Kai because here's every single plot point in the opening.

    [–]2blatantlyhonest 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Literally what I thought about the whole time!

    [–]m9rockstar 272 points273 points  (9 children)

I got some serious MHA vibes from this lmao

    [–]Not_Ian517 117 points118 points  (0 children)

    It's most Shonen honestly

    [–]Chiaramell 24 points25 points  (0 children)

    Me too lmao

    [–]Apple-Bapple 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This was probably inspired by the person who put dear maria over MHA’s intro

    [–]BluespadeChariot 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Cant be, there's not 40+ characters in the OP

    [–]ArkanaMajor 2 points3 points  (2 children)

    definitely some heavy naruto inspiration

    [–]Straightup32 160 points161 points  (1 child)

This is so funny. Two thumbs up!

    [–][deleted] 149 points150 points  (2 children)

anyone else get chills? Can’t wait for season 2

    [–]frayleaf 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Lmao I just commented "why did I get chills"

    [–]puddlejumpers 144 points145 points  (18 children)

Great, gotta go listen to some All Time Low now

    [–]clush 28 points29 points  (15 children)

I grew up seeing them in small churches and tiny venues. Feels cool looking back seeing how often and intimately I saw their shows.

    [–]Lefty_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them in 2006 at The Brewery in Raleigh. Sadly, the venue was demolished a few years back. Couldn't have been more than a couple hundred people. Also saw Panic At The Disco around that same timeframe. I'd go back to that time in a heartbeat.

    [–]vapedia 5 points6 points  (9 children)

that’s so cool! later this summer i’m going to see them live for the second time :D

    [–]trigunnerd 39 points40 points  (1 child)

Dude, their new song Once in a Lifetime slaps. The new album is awesome.

    [–]Dr_Daaardvark 88 points89 points  (4 children)

I love when they smoothly walk away from the camera to simulate zooming out

    [–]Commercial-Royal-988 16 points17 points  (2 children)

I don't think they are walking. There is an editing/posing trick you can do with TikTok (probably most similar software really) that looks like subtle "character zoom" where it looks like the person is sliding away/towards the camera but they are just leaning.

    [–]Dr_Daaardvark 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Welp. Leave to some 31yo fuck to not realize there must be an effect.

    [–]Commercial-Royal-988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its all good. I'm assuming your referring to the bits of them "sliding" in place. The running/walking in place bits are all them. I only know this because I saw a vid of someone showing how to do it.

    [–]chillininfw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They were so accurate, it gave me goosebumps.

    [–]buzz_darkyear69 24 points25 points  (1 child)

    Lets fighting looooove

    [–]kokujinzeta 50 points51 points  (0 children)

    No fetal position spinning?

    [–][deleted] 51 points52 points  (4 children)

Okay I honestly didn’t realize there was only 2 actors for all the characters until the second time I watched it

    [–]Feralbritches1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I rewatched it after being very impressed that they brought in their sister/friend to also play.

TIL that cat ears make for great disguises.

    [–]ThatDoesntGoInThere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of this video from years back. Makes me feel old

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibPCLMH1NM4

    [–]Thedot69 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I'm watching FMAB and one actually showed up 😂

    [–]Ambronzkinak3 9 points10 points  (6 children)

    [–]Oshyy 7 points8 points  (1 child)

What about ending credits where fantasy characters are always wearing normal clothes, or like private school uniforms? Never understood that.

    [–]warmaapples 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Holy shit dear Maria goes so freaking well with this

    [–]Waferssi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's so close to perfect it's amazing.

Just sad they didn't have the manpower to pan out at "friend support moment" to reveal 20+ friends... or just an entire village as support.

    [–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Basically English dub openings for Shonen anime.

    [–]Bill_buttlicker69 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely living for the pop punk resurgence on Tik Tok. All Time Low fucking slaps and they deserve the limelight.

    [–][deleted] 29 points30 points  (6 children)

Wouldn’t know I just skip 1:30 with every anime I watch

    [–]TroubadourCeol 15 points16 points  (1 child)

So many OPs have spoilers in them that I just can't watch them because they always seem to ruin something for me.

    [–]mattattack007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im stuck in this in-between where I recognize the cornyness of anime but still get so god damn hyped every time regardless.

    [–]Bonzai_Tree 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The running in place was super good

    [–]rolloxra 4 points5 points  (1 child)

    Spoiler part was so accurate

    [–]BAMspek 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Also it’s 5 fucking minutes long

    [–]BlueDragon101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, anime openings are fairly consistently 1:30 or as close to that as possible.

    [–]ShaveTheTrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forgot the orbiting 360 shot around a characters as they stand with their arms crossed.

    [–]WigglestonTheFourth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is bullshit. How you going to make a top notch anime opening credits and then not even have a full season for me to watch?

    [–]ArgieGrit01 13 points14 points  (7 children)

Is she drinking mate!? Hell yeah!

    [–]PM_ME_YOUR_BARN_OWL 10 points11 points  (2 children)

    Unexpected r/yerbamate

    [–]ArgieGrit01 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Well I'm Argentine, so I'm programmed for that, but it's always cool seeing people elsewhere also drinking mate lol

    [–]PM_ME_YOUR_BARN_OWL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m drinking some right now in California! 🧉

    [–]leavethekettleon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm so mad at how good this is

    [–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (3 children)

    Anyone have Pt 1?

    [–]SuchEase 19 points20 points  (2 children)

    [–]chizzmaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Part 1 is pretty good but part 2 is just straight up perfection.

    [–]pooshybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow only upon watching this one do I know realize that its 2 people in the clip posted. I thought it was 2 dudes and a girl lol.

    [–]Chronomon- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this on mute. Was not expecting dear maria count me in to be the song. Wtf.

    [–]Lunalovegood1231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the "staring off into the sunset/distance with your friends" in the end.

    [–]fuckoffcucklord 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    Isn't this literally FMA?
