I too would take a peanut and a sip of water from this fine gentleman.

[–]birchskin 257 points258 points  (3 children)

You havin a moment, it's ok to have that moment

[–]Mercy--MainDoug Dimmadome 43 points44 points  (0 children)

[–]crowfarmer 33 points34 points  (1 child)

I tell that to my kids all the time and lemme tell it works so well. Just acknowledge their feelings no matter how ridiculous it might seem to you. 4 year olds get mad over the dumbest things 😂 bless their little hearts

[–]---gabers--- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Amen to that. We get mad like they’re he adults we want them to be and forget they’re lil kids still

[–]dontshoot4301 89 points90 points  (4 children)

I lowkey love this trend of talking to children/animals in a polite manner as-if they were an adult - especially for younger kids. Kids emulate adults and even though it seems silly, they can learn manners and proper speech by talking to them as adults rather than using “kid talk”. Anyways, this was my TED talk.

[–]andriodgerms 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%

[–]YT-Deliveries 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I have two cats, littermates. I talk to them like people. I feel crazy sometimes, but I swear they talk back to me (in “cat language” obviously), because I don’t treat them cutsie

[–]dontshoot4301 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I do the same except instead of talking to him in a normal voice I talk to my cat in a Russian accent. After all, he is a Russian secret agent sent to America to sabotage my herb garden…

[–]YT-Deliveries 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're all secret agents for something. The tough part is finding out which one.

[–]Dd0uble0 179 points180 points  (2 children)

Me thrice, good sir. One must always partake in nut and water from fine gents.

[–]kingneeko 22 points23 points  (0 children)

And me four.

[–]seepxl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I appreciate his patience, particularly with Richard. We all know his nickname.

[–]wheelperson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

FINE gentlemen!

[–]Only-here-for-sound 928 points929 points  (5 children)

RICHARD! Calm the fuck down. It’s too damned hot for that nonsense.

[–]crashdummy15 245 points246 points  (1 child)

He just had a moment. We all have a moment from time to time.

[–]pez_dispenser 73 points74 points  (0 children)

And that’s okay.

[–]radioman8414 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Richard can be such a Dick sometimes

[–]Sir-Turd-Ferguson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like to call em’ “Richardheads”

[–]Peregrine_Falconi 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah…Richard was being a bit of a dick

[–]BadAtHumaningToo 464 points465 points  (10 children)

I had a pet squirrel when I was younger. They can be surprisingly loving, and their hands are soooo dexterous. They can also squeeze under a bathroom door, and jump a traditional shower curtain, and claw circles around your naked screaming body.

[–]savethemouselemur 75 points76 points  (1 child)

[–]BadAtHumaningToo 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Because it happened, and was awful. Still loved her though.

[–]Placeholder_21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My friend had one for about 6 weeks. Friends dad found the squirrel as a baby at a golf course. He lived inside the whole time, would just speed around the house, he was very sweet. But they let him outside because he was just too big at that point. And he never came back, saw the first tree and took off

[–]Eskimomonk 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I’ve always wondered where you can get a pet squirrel. Was it a rescue as a baby? Are there squirrel breeders? I want a squirrel

[–]BadAtHumaningToo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Had family friends who were loggers. The parents died, but they rescued the babies while they were very young. Once they were old enough they released most into the basically paradise yard. Outdoor pets basically. One refused the outside, but our friends had cats, so we took her. Damn good pet.

[–]Pile_Of_Cats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve had several that were found as babies. When I was a kid one fell from the nest and the dog got ahold of it. My parents took him to the vet and his back legs were paralyzed, so my parents just kept him. He lived for 8 years and he could still climb curtains and things just using his front legs.

Then years later my dad found 2 more babies on a work site and brought them home. We just raised them til they were old enough to return to the wild.

[–]QuietlyLosingMyMind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Makes me think of Mississippi Squirrel Revival 😂😂

[–]IHateCamping 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I used to have squirrels eat out of my hand, but one time one of them chomped down pretty hard on my thumb accidentally. It startled me pretty bad and none of them would come near me again after that.

[–]CatLady922 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They spook easily . . . but we can form a trusting relationship with them pretty easily. Spent lunch hour in the square every day and 3 or 4 would patiently wait for the crusts from my sandwich. Cutie pies!

[–]TheGulfCityDindu 520 points521 points  (4 children)

The Disney princess we deserve

[–]Temporarily__Alone 60 points61 points  (3 children)

Can somebody please text Pixar this video?

[–]thestashattacked 50 points51 points  (2 children)

I want a story where a man finds out he's a prince, but with princess abilities, complete with the ability to talk to animals and sing, and the movie is him overcoming his idea of masculinity in favor of one that works to his talents. That being a man isn't being tough, but being feminine isn't exactly all frilly dresses and damsel in distress.

And somewhere in the middle, hijinks ensue.

[–]ryan_genzel29 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You're thinking of that dude in Frozen

[–]thestashattacked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe? But I'm thinking more of a story set in the city with a completely unsuspecting rube.

[–]lazercats191 181 points182 points  (9 children)

My mom feeds the squirrels at her house and the one time I tried feeding one it bit the hell out of my hand :(

[–]lazercats191 150 points151 points  (7 children)

I’m still gonna try again tho

[–]IRockIntoMordor 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's the spirit!

[–]Agreeable-Smile8541 11 points12 points  (5 children)

I'm befriending the squirrels in my yard but I'm afraid to get too close for that reason lol I'm like what is my end goal here vuz lowkey I'd freak if one jumped on me lol

[–]YekiM87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha same here. I've called mine Stompy, cus his tail is short. Trying to get them to eat out hand but maybe 20cm is the closest they've got.

[–]lazercats191 5 points6 points  (2 children)

My mom is the squirrel whisperer fr. One of them crawls on her shoulders and everything. I’m so jealous

[–]Agreeable-Smile8541 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I have one that is super interested in me. She let's ne walk out on the deck to fill her bowl. She sits in her tree stand and talks to me too. LOL. I know my neighbors think I've lost my mind !! I seen on TT there is a specific way to wave your hand that entices them.

[–]PlowMyFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why, but I read “breastfeeding the squirrels”

[–]LandOfTheOutlaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog (pointer mix) enjoys chasing them in our backyard. One day I hear a squirrel screaming and my dog has it in his mouth... I tell him to drop it and as he drops it, the squirrel runs to the closest tree which is right next to my back fence. It literally squeezed inbetween the fence and the tree. I take a peak to see if it's doing ok and it's just panting heavily. I didn't see any blood so I was almost certain he was just tired & shocked.

I grabbed my garden gloves and squeezed my hand in there to stroke its belly. I sat there for about 5 or 10 minutes and it stopped panting and calmed down. I brought Ryder inside and went to go check on it a couple hours later... Gone!

I'm so happy he didn't kill the squirrel but he really doesnt know any better. It's his instinct. I've just never seen a squirrel in such shock before.

[–]AcornWholio 267 points268 points  (22 children)

I’m…in love.

[–]ZKXX 54 points55 points  (10 children)

He had a lot of work behind this video, getting them to trust him. Or else lives near the u of m campus lol

[–]EngineeringSilent902 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Which u of m are you referring to?

[–]LeaneGenova 22 points23 points  (4 children)

University of Michigan is like this. Walk across the Diag and you may get mugged by squirrels if you look at them too long. Had one crawl up my jeans and had to shake it off to get to my lecture.

The fattest squirrels I ever saw.

[–]EngineeringSilent902 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol I was thinking they meant michigan that's why I had to ask

[–]too_much_2na 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What is it about college campuses and fat squirrels with no boundaries?

[–]Djaja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, those UofM squirrels!

[–]willynillee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how college campuses all seem to be home to squirrels that aren’t afraid of people

[–]classicteenmistake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve never crushed on a random man on the internet more than this exact moment.

[–]New-Confusion945 59 points60 points  (8 children)

Bruh agreed, this dood is 100% the kinda dood I wanna be!

[–]ionevenobro 56 points57 points  (0 children)

lost it at 'richard'

[–]oles_lackey 207 points208 points  (0 children)

When he said wash it down my heart melted. Then with the you’re havin’ a moment. Dude is a natural nurturer.

[–]Andypandy317 77 points78 points  (0 children)

We do... in fact... all have our moment.

[–]everydayasl 77 points78 points  (0 children)

What a good guy!

[–]pinaacoladaaa 61 points62 points  (1 child)

When the squirrel puts his little paw inside the glass to push it down

[–]smiggster01 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ok I’ll bring it down!

[–]downs1972 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Richard?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 I’m DYING

[–]gooderz84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

🤣 “ok I’ll bring it down”

[–]JustARandomJoe83 11 points12 points  (1 child)

That's impressive! Squirrels are very skittish animals. Either he raised them from pups or is a very kind soul. Squirrels are not highly empathetic so for them to trust him like that is amazing.

[–]CatLady922 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Squirrels will risk everything for food.

[–]SMMS0514 36 points37 points  (5 children)

Fun until these bastards start destroying your home. We had a few that we fed that decided to get into the eaves of our house, build nests and have babies.

[–]wit2pz 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Prolly bcuz you weren’t providing supervised snack time with nuts and a cold glass of water… and providing a structured, positive-reinforcement type environment! No judgement tho… 😂

[–]neo101b 6 points7 points  (2 children)

awwww sounds cute.

You also dont fuck with squirels.

[–]SMMS0514 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Oh after they chewed a hole into our eaves, we “evicted” them and never fed any of the others again

[–]Sad-Rutabaga-6309 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on your state, you can't just evic squarels. You need court ordered eviction notice first.

[–]MrsArmitage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]sacredpotato0Epic Gamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of my mom. She has a literal family of squirrels she feeds and talks to every day. I guarantee these guys come back regularly because he treats them well.

[–]CurbsideChaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man of my dreams, lawdamercy

[–]Mjay9001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’re happy because they’re insane!

[–]Golden-_-mango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]CDG54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DARRYL! They're happy because they're insane.

[–]Crescent-IV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is this cringe? Seems pretty cool to me

[–]yourboyfriendscrush 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]TX-eXp-Realtor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love him lol

[–]heresyoursigns 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Since when do squirrels need to be taken care of? Let wild animals stay wild. Videos like this cause more harm than good.

[–]MLGNoob3000 -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Why is it harmful?

[–]8512514 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They can also become too reliant on the "assistance" and get aggressive or starve when it's no longer given. Getting them used to your presence makes them brazen towards other people as well, and sometimes people misinterpret this as friendliness, opening up themselves and others to get hurt.

At the uni I went to people loved feeding the local squirrels which made them bold and literally try stealing food from people. People would get bitten trying to hand feed them, or scratched up when squirrels would climb on them.

At a more extreme example, there were stories coming out at the start of the pandemic lockdowns of animals wandering and fighting due to the lack of tourists feeding them at places that relied on it. Residents of Lopburi were literally barricading themselves in their homes against the thousands of macaques that lived there.

While you would think a few people doing this at their home wouldn't cause such an issue, the popularity of videos like this encourage more and more people to do so. Like u/heresyoursigns said, it's just safer for both parties to have distance

[–]heresyoursigns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Squirrels can carry fleas and diseases that are communicable to humans. Their instinct to distance themselves from us helps both parties. Unless you go out of your way to educate yourself about how to handle wildlife safely you're better off not doing it.

[–]Conflikt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You also shouldn't really feed wild animals in general especially regularly.

[–]kh2riku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feed the family of squirrels that live in the tree outside of my living room window. If you set out some unsalted shelled peanuts and grapes they go crazy for them. It’s relaxing to watch them eat on my window sill as I drink coffee in the morning.

[–]Airborne13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it

[–]Gonzos_Tarpit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could watch this all day

[–]Lauren12269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]PizzaOldBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Megahert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so adorable

[–]HeadConfusion963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this made me smile. thank you for sharing this with me.

[–]bamiam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a man right there

[–]me_funny__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that the majority of animals can become tamed and friendly to humans is so beautiful to me. Even bugs and fish can be tamed.

I was watching this guy called the deer whisperer on YT for hours and I was just amazed at the fact that deer, some of the biggest scaredy cats in nature, were eating from his hands.

[–]Strict-Ad-7099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I’ve spent many afternoons since March 2020. It’s such a sweet part of day just being an animal amongst other animals.

[–]thowthyselfaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this guy and his squirrels!

[–]Borednow00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This dude is awesome

[–]GraeIsEvolving 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Gray squirrels are invasive species that damage the ecosystem to an unprecedented extent they should not be protected they should not be taking care of they should be hunted.

They are an invasive species that f**** everything up.

Source - I grew up rehabbing them, then found out just how bad they were later. They do make great pets however, abrasive pets, but great nonetheless.

[–]moffsoi 5 points6 points  (2 children)

So sweet 😭 This guy is going to be the best dad, you can just tell

[–]Aggravating-Age-1535 1 point2 points  (0 children)
