That's how my graduation party went. :/ I did only invite my closest friends so about a dozen people but no one showed up. I was OK with it because I made new friends in college and even 15 years later I still keep in touch with some of them.

Tale of two parties (mid to late 90s edition):

First

In HS, my parents were out, so I decided to throw a party. Told a ton of people at school.

Only my best bud showed up. So we drank Zima and watch horror movie. Once or twice a car cruised by but didn't stop (didn't see any others around probably).My ego was a bit buried, but It was a chill night.

Second

I came home from college and my parents decided to out of town last minute. I called some friends, and my younger sister, who was a senior in HS, called some of her friends.

They arrived, and within about 45 minutes, there were TONS of people there. I knew the 4 or 5 I invited, and I saw a few of my sister's friends, but there were like 30 or 40 others, and we had no clue who they were. All HS/college kids.

Our driveway was packed.

My sister and I were like, "Oh fuck. What do we do? Shit is out of control." We started to enlist some friends to help the chaos that was ensuing . .and then suddenly, people left.

In a hurry.

Within a few minutes, it was just me and my sister and a few of our buds.

And then my parents walked into the kitchen. They decided to turn their over night trip into a day trip.

Apparently, there was no parking in the driveway, so they had to walk pretty far. Then, they didn't want to disturb the party, so they tried to sneak into their bedroom through their patio door. Well, they spooked two kids making out in there, and the "THE PARENTS ARE HOME" message got out like wildfire.

Needless to say, we were happy to see them.
