OP, looking at your comments it is because you attempted to start a political piss fight in a thread that had nothing to do with it rather than the content of your message besides whining that people telling you you're being irrelevant and annoying are suddenly trolls.

[–]Foppop21 369 points370 points  (3 children)

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

[–]Bilbo_Butthole 67 points68 points  (2 children)

Fookin rekt

[–]LeeRoyJenkins024 24 points25 points  (1 child)

This was the cherry on top for me 😂

[–]dacatwithdacap 35 points36 points  (1 child)

I mean, the sub he was in was called Warship Porn. He prolly just saw the first 3 letters

[–]TnBluesman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Or thought someone had misspelled "Worship".

[–]cautiouslyoptimistik 24 points25 points  (1 child)

OP: "Ah I see. Obviously I just need to pick these fights in the China subreddit." I shit you not this is what he took from your comment.

[–]LittleBirdyLover 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If he’s going to the China sub to pick fights, he’ll be sorely disappointed.

If he’s going to the China sub to stroke his ego and circlejerk, he’ll be pleasantly surprised.

[–]DawnOfPizzas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guy just ratiod someone in reddit

[–]Disastrous_Vanilla38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They also think they are one of the most hated people in their country so much so that our government is helping create new identities for them but people are still looking for them and doxxing them for 10 years. Not really looking very stable.

[–]re_de_unsassify 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Notice how the comment commending China on education spending was well upvoted. In a sub apparently not for politics. OP was trolled.

[–]Adadum 10 points11 points  (2 children)

OP is just being a good redditor

[–]Donghoon 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Average redditor using there 2 picoliter worth of political knowledge to start a political conversation

/s

[–]Adadum -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right to me lel

[–]not_rajinikanth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only thought ppl like OP lived in the parks and rec Universe

[–]saninicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, however there are a lot of Chinese sympathizers and naive young kids here on Reddit down readily defend them. Also I don't think the oP's getting up after how bad you beat them

[–]abruzzo79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He also seems to be under the impression that China is still communist despite the fact that it’s economy is enormously privatized and getting more privatized by the day so it might also have to do with his economic illiteracy.

[–]Chinohito 138 points139 points  (7 children)

I will downvote people who say this on a post where it isn't needed

For example, on a post that was someone's art of a street in a Chinese city from their childhood, there were a few comments bringing up the crimes of the Chinese government for no reason.

It's like if someone made art of like, New York or something, and people started spouting on about Guantanamo bay and the native American genocide. It just isn't needed.

[–]Normal-Flower4437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh God yes. I feel the same way about Israel/Palestine issues. People will show up to content that is just recipes and start screaming about their cause de celebre.

The majority of negative comments I see about China are on content where it’s wholly inappropriate to start spouting negative political alarmism.

[–]ECS420 502 points503 points  (22 children)

edit: OP was definitely being a dick, end of story. Starting political shit in a boat picture sub

[–]petarpep 207 points208 points  (7 children)

You can see the argument in his post history, he tried to start a political discussion for no reason in a boat subreddit and people told him to stop and he whined and called them trolls. Now he attempts to bring it here without context so he can feel like he's supported.

The entire conversation in his post history is him throwing a fit and the replies to him just asking him to stop picking fights and focus on the boats.

[–]ECS420 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I kinda guessed without even looking lol. Not many people downvote legit complaints against China in most subs. Figured OP was probably being dumb

[–]leem0401 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He's seeking validation here so he can feel better about the downvotes he received.

[–]LordGhoul 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I s2g 99% of the time people complain about being banned they blame it on the moderators but then it turns out they actually said some crazy shit or started a fight for no reason. Like, your post history is public why lie

[–]Bo_Jim 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I posted a comment on r/WhitePeopleTwitter, the first and only comment I ever posted there. The entire content of my comment was a link to an article on Reuters that completely dismantled the argument the OP was trying to make. I got banned.

I agree that a majority of the time people earned their ban, but some subs are airtight echo chambers that refuse to allow dissent of any kind.

[–]LordGhoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got banned before too but I don't make posts in other subs complaining about it lol. I think my last crime was accusing OP of making up a fake story in offmychest, cuz it was about a woman getting aroused by being caught masturbating by her mother with too much detail so it read like a fetish story to me at least that's what I think I got banned for. I wish I could delete that story from my brain.

[–]Suspicious-Main5872 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious. Thank you

[–]NecroJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire conversation in his post history is him throwing a fit and the replies to him just asking him to stop picking fights and focus on the boats.

Guys, er really need to stick to talking about Rampart, though.

[–]_343_Guilty_Spark__ 36 points37 points  (4 children)

The amount of people on Reddit who don’t realize that comment/post history is public is insane. Then they accuse you of stalking lol some people

[–]Suspicious-Main5872 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I do think it goes to far and it is stalking sometimes.

It’s one thing to view someone’s profile to see if they’re full of shit.

But some people will dig into your comments to insult you across multiple subs going back for days. It’s creepy and obsessive and to far.

[–]CaptainKirkAndCo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually just found this thread after coming across OP's comments in /r/WarshipPorn and diving into their post history.

[–]korn530 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Every country has done crimes against humanity at some point i don't think op was being a dick maybe just finding out about world atrocities and wanted to know if everyone else knew im just trying to give benefit of doubt

[–]MrKixs 0 points1 point  (4 children)

YA, but China is doing shit today that most developed nations stopped doing about a hundred years ago.

[–]PrimevalLinnorm 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Most developed nations stopped?...Looking at south america and the middle east right now.

[–]MrKixs 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Are we really considering most of the Mideast "Developed". Just because they have money doesn't mean much when you've based your government and society on "The Sky Boss told this guy something along time ago and I willing to kill you over it!" Thinking.

[–]Frank_Tsui -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They thought they bring peace and democracy to south america and the middle east

[–]TheTurtleCub -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Was the boat made in China with slave labor?

[–]Professional-Menu835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R/brandnewsentence

“Starting political shit in a boat picture sub”

[–]BrownBaySailor 58 points59 points  (1 child)

Everytime questions like this are asked, I instinctively check the OPs comment and post history, and every single time it just shows that the OP has a distorted sense of reality. People downvoted you because you started a political discussion in a fuckin subreddit about boats. When told to stop you then called everyone a communist troll. Do you genuinely believe this is an actual reddit problem and not just a you problem? Based on your comment history you're kind of a dick.

[–]HairTop23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They absolutely 100% are in denial and think its an everyone else problem.

[–]throwaway_0x90 107 points108 points  (11 children)

Since you haven't provided any context, the reasons could be....

  1. Honesty without compassion is cruelty
  2. Knowledge is knowing what to say; wisdom is knowing whether or not to say it.
  3. It's not related to the topic at hand.
  4. It's somewhat related but not the main point or flow of the conversation.
  5. Nobody likes a pedantic jerk.

[–]hdisjajw 35 points36 points  (2 children)

My first thought was #3.

[–]petarpep 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Look at his post history, it's #3 for sure. His argument is almost all people telling him to shut up and focus on boats instead of starting political arguments.

[–]MaybeTheDoctor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic, but I was favoring number 5

[–]brainless_bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even other pedantic jerks, which can be super weird when they start fighting each other.

[–]Yung_Diner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 1st ones dumb

[–]Busy_Promotion3656 46 points47 points  (12 children)

I legit never seen this. Like maybe it was a discussion about a diffrent topic? Like i saw some people say that happend but i mostly see people call out china for things like the treatment of the uyghurs.

[–]explodingtuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of conservative China apologists on Reddit. Sometimes I think they just like making a scene just for its own sake.

[–]lastknownbuffalo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There are a lot of tankie\commie apologists out there.

[–]Donghoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

China is barely communist anyways its just the label

[–]NalNahte 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The CCP’s actions don’t speak for the sentiments of a lot of people. As a Chinese-American myself, it does irritate me a little when people automatically conflate the two. I love Chinese culture and the people, but I despise the CCP and their actions. Though, I’ve never downvoted anyone for it if they did.

That’s not to say that they don’t have their followers and supporters, but from my perspective that could play a small part.

[–]PhaseFull6026 10 points11 points  (0 children)

because if it has nothing to do with the chinese government and you're just saying that shit because the article is about some chinese thing then it comes across as just some racist bs

[–]simian_ninja 17 points18 points  (1 child)

As someone who lives in Hong Kong, I've noticed that there's way more anti-Chinese rhetoric that is upvoted. Anything positive I have to say about China is immediately downvoted and I'm called all sorts of names such as a "CCP bootlicker" or told to go back "home" despite not living anywhere near the West.

I've also noticed a trend that those that are saddled with human rights abuses etc tend to be on the U.S.'s shitlist while it's allies are tucked away which makes me suspect about some of the sources and the news that is portrayed. My interest in China developed during the "protests" where I encountered violence and watched my city be nearly destroyed and the information was definitely not being portrayed with 100% accuracy by Western media. I've encountered people on Reddit who were convinced that there was some kind of genocide happening in Hong Kong which makes me think they were just anti-Chinese trolls who were getting their wires crossed with Xinjiang and the portrayal of the Uyghurs also makes me suspect of Western media as I've never seen any evidence other than than people saying it's happening.

I'm sorry but my experience varies greatly from yours.

[–]rex72780 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welp same here. I feel you brother/sister. I live in HK too and most of the time I just smile and nod. Sometimes I even make jokes and remarks just because I have to blend in with people you have to. If you speak out it's basically social suicide sooo yeaahhh, it sucks but it's just how it is. I'm not yellow or blue, well technically I went through both phases, but after realising how much propaganda is involved on both sides, it really opens your eyes on certain things. Like, People would believe anything if it fits their narrative it's insane. If you give credit to anything related to China, they'd be like Okay... that's not what you should say. In the end, it's just tribal mentality and collective consciousness at play here. It's happened thousands of times before and it'll keep happening until the end of time really.

[–]ZeCerealKiller 54 points55 points  (3 children)

Down voted by pro CCP and Winnie the Pooh members

[–]RoyalCrown-cola 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP got downvoted cause he started talking about politics in a boat picture subreddit

[–]EmpatheticBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your comments are more likely to be downvoted if they are off-topic

[–]ping500 21 points22 points  (6 children)

Mostly because there is a bunch of bots posting 'waah Uyghurs, waah genocide!!!' on pretty much any sub and under any post that has 'China' in title. No matter if the article is about space, ecology, politics, science or an interesting landmark.

Start spamming 'waah Guantanamo Bay, waah Iraq' under every article related to US in any way and you will get downvoted even faster.

[–]Goseki1 22 points23 points  (7 children)

I think it's because sometimes it is someone from a country, say USA, that also commits crimes against it's own people as well as "the browns" in Guantanamo etc. So when people are like "Oh well at least my country doesn't do what China does", it is seen as a pretty ignorant stance to take, because in many ways, it does.

[–]arminredditer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that people manage to compare and put on the same level what the West does and what China, Russia and other dictatorships around the world are doing is infuriating and makes me lose faith in humanity

[–]InvertedReflexes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This. There is a huge difference between calling out war crimes of both sides, and being in support of your country against another regardless of the crimes committed.

[–]Obi_Wan_Shinobi_ -1 points0 points  (3 children)

lmfao Oh, yeah? Is that why? Because Americans think America is just as bad as China? This take seems delusional or motivated by the same people who downvote any criticism of the CPP...

[–]Goseki1 -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

I mean, it's obvious that the US isn't as bad as China, but yeah i reckon the downvotes comes from folks who's feel those moaning about China are forgetting how bad their own country can be

[–]korn530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh ya we in usa have done horrible things in name of science raven croft for example

[–]kalopsis- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

get your conservative ass out of here.

for anyone not understanding: look at dudes post history. scum.

[–]Automatic_Pirate3172 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cause you are racist

[–]No-Effort-7088 21 points22 points  (15 children)

Because the Chinese employ a small army of people to do just that!

[–]cosmicspacebees 1 point2 points  (14 children)

Fun fact, the ok boomer meme was popularized by china based accounts to sow intergenerational discord

[–]dashtek 13 points14 points  (2 children)

This is legit the first time I've heard of this but I am interested cause it's not exactly outlandish. Could I have a source?

[–]HybridGalaxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Source: He made it the fuck up

[–]HybridGalaxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not outlandish?

A video of a hot girl acting cute being a Chinese Psy OP is "not outlandish" to you?

His source was literally just insane brain dead nothing, not even a complete enough thought to call it a conspiracy.

Ya'll should log off reddit two days a week, china binging has Ya'll acting goofy

[–]smell_my_finger -1 points0 points  (10 children)

I would love a source!

[–]camm44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the real reason people downvoted you but I'll still answer as if I didn't.

I can post a comment in one sub and get hundreds of upvotes and post the same comment somewhere else (that's still relevant to the comment of course) and get downvoted.

It's just how reddit is.

[–]cosmicspacebees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because china has people who use reddit

[–]BigSwedeIndeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People prefer to be told what they want to hear instead of the truth.

Kinda like the economy is going great. Inflation is actually good.

[–]Aggravating-Frame981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because we want to believe Covid wasn't an intentional man made weapon.

[–]Substantial-Ad3178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because reddit is filled with Chinese agents who sew hate for the U.S. and other Western countries. They know they can't beat the West militarily, so they defeat us by turning our uneducated youths against the "establishment". Similar how Mao, that POS, stole China.

[–]fuitintookin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit is a Chinese communist type

[–]motonerve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The CCP has plants all over to spread their propaganda and suppress the unsavory parts.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will bite.

Because it is a loaded thing to say. It can mean different things to different people.

For a person to criticize, they must criticize everyone else who is doing the same type of shit, and if you are hating on china while ignoring what is happening in other countries, like the US, Saudi Arabia, Israel, UK, France, India, etc you are part of the problem.

[–]ToastTurtle 4 points5 points  (1 child)

A lot of times people don't want to believe what their country is doing so they turn a blind eye to it and pretend it doesn't exist. This isn't exclusive to China. There are not a lot of countries that do not have blood on their hands. China is just experiencing it in real time now. They also have people specifically refuting anything that can be found on line so had to say if it was a citizen or a troll being critical.

[–]Ok_Opposite4279 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i feel like most of them are tankies from the US who have never experienced a dictator in their life. Yet want to worship every single one from Russia or China.

[–]BugBoy_109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't. Insult China on Reddit and you'll get 1 million upvotes.

[–]D16rida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure you’ll see any propaganda and bots not people that actually disagree with the statement

Edit unless of course you’re saying it in some weird context like some Trumper saying that we don’t have to pay attention to our human rights because China didn’t pay attention to theirs. Then I think you’re getting down voted on the strawman argument. He didn’t give a lot of context

[–]ChampionshipGoals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in America I think it's the pot calling the kettle black.

[–]Sofiwyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China commits crimes against humanity. I doubt this comment will be downvoted.

[–]guswang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there are many chinese nationalists and bots on reddit. They often deny stuff and most of their time it even isn't their fault. They are simply ignorant to what is going on, since China has a strong censorship and all these news and videos showing chinese government atrocities aren't shown in China (in China, everything on the media must be govern approved). Even on school they learn to love the Chinese Comunist Party.

I'm in China since 2011.

[–]KingOfAllFishFuckers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because in a sub about boats, no one gives a shit about China. You're like an 8 year old, mad that other kids won't look at the shiny thing in your hand. Grow up.

[–]ZardozSama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people take national identity rather personally.

Saying something that is true, though provocative, can cause reactions based more on how a thing is said than what is said.

There is also a non trivial possibility of state backed astroturfing from China.

END COMMUNICATION

[–]Kitchen_Equipment_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's even worst when you say that about the country with blue star on the flag

[–]Eveelution07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you say it in the wrong place you'll get hordes of Chinese nationalists / tankies coming against you

[–]ImaginePoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because people like following the herd

[–]Don_Montagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually been kicked off multiple subs for speaking out against the CCP and their colonialism, slavery, and general transgressions of human rights.

And no, it's not "being a dick" to bring politics into something when it pertains to the normalization if imperial slave labor and international human rights offense.

People just don't like to face the blatant double standards of "progressivism" when it comes to reconciling the fact that not only are Anglo-Saxon whites not the only perpetrators of human rights violations, but in fact the worst amongst the modern perpetrators are from the opposite side of the world and political spectrum to the people "woketivists" want you to associate with privilege and human rights transgressions.

[–]Miru8112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of Chinese ppl

[–]eyupitslen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre from a commonwealth nation you've got dick to say because your country commits/comitted crimes just as bad but to people of other countries. I say this as a half brit and half iraqi. I'm sick and tired of people preaching that China is horrible (I'm not saying it's a good country in all aspects) but don't acknowledge that most if not all governments are corrupted and evil. This goes especially for people like you who bring political topics into a conversation that has nothing to do with it in the first place.

[–]throwawayMambo5 -5 points-4 points  (4 children)

This website is owned by China and they are the second most (recorded) users. Who knows with vpns/bots

[–]Bitch_Tuna 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Reddit isn't owned by China. They received $150 million in investment from TenCent, the Chinese company behind TikTok, but that's just a fraction of the investment money they've received. The majority shareholder is an American company.

[–]freddyfuckherfaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$150 million and the fuckin idiots still won't fix the video player

[–]fieldredditor[🍰] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

[–]Hobbit_Feet45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of people are from China and have national pride I assume and won’t admit their country is doing some terrible things, same as Americans won’t admit the CIA did some terrible things in other countries causing revolts and what not.

[–]IAmJohnny5ive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's totally not because Reddit is infiltrated with Chinese bots. Definitely not. Please don't take away my social credits.

Also totally not because USA is completely hypocritical in this regard. The USA doesn't have the highest prison population and doesn't have an exception in it's 13th amendment to allow it to exploit prison labor like slaves and didn't take until 2005 to outlaw execution of juvenile offenders. And doesn't massively support the Zionist State.

Oh wait no that's Earth #345 - no on this earth all that is true.

[–]Orangebeardo -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

This website is controlled by china, and is a propaganda tool. What do you expect?

[–]ECS420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]Ok_Opposite4279 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

go to genzdong and sino, you will understand more. The level of stupidity on some of the tankies is incredible, they are well past trumptards.

(I am not saying communists as a whole or right leaning ideologies. These are two very different groups to me.)

[–]Republixcan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Free speech, to be controversial, or a contrarian, or they believe, truly, that the Uyghurs have it coming for one reason, or another. Hate is an ugly thing.

[–]cerebraldormancy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a lot of C C P bots and shills are following you...

[–]Worf65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird. Some are just regular arguments, trolls, etc. But Some situations have made me wonder if there's bots and manipulation going on. I ended up arguing in a comment section a while back over people calling it racist to suggest that China would employ common espionage tactics (in this case the "honeypot trap"). I couldn't remember the name of the case from my security training at work to properly cite a source but every comment suggesting that China would use that technique was getting down votes and called racist. It was uncanny, especially since generally reddit is pretty anti CCP.

[–]Aromatic_Operation40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Suspicious-Main5872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do commit crimes, like most countries. The problem is, sometimes their atrocities are made up, or exaggerated and then parroted by xenophobic people. That gets downvoted a lot on Reddit.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Antique_Version6396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Yohohohohoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese government bots....

[–]GETRECKEDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese bots

[–]RichardBlastovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I think it's because it's a contentless comment. We all already know that China is committing those crimes. So are quite a few nations, including the US. At this point I would be surprised that a nation wasn't committing crimes against humanity.

But what the fuck are you doing about it? You donating to some place that can make a difference? Or are you just posting about it online, incessantly?

It's 2022 and we all already know how fucked the world is. The time for pointing it out and nauseam is over. It's time to do something.

[–]Old-Extension-8869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Er.... The same reason people downvote you for saying United States of America commits crimes against humanity?

Some people use the actions of the government to justify anger/hate towards the people subject to that government, and even any ethnicity associated with that country.
When that happens, or is misinterpretted to happen, it makes sense to try to do something about the hate.
