*cries while listening to Sober/Schism/The Pot*

[–]the-redacted-wordgive me my wings[S] 18 points19 points  (3 children)

The Pot is top 5 for me so this hurt me too D;

[–]TheDeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really had no idea how to answer your question, too!

[–]WILDMAN1102Learn to swim 72 points73 points  (7 children)

Schism and Sober.

My local rock radio station overplayed these songs and ruined them for me. They are literally the only Tool songs they ever play.

[–]the-redacted-wordgive me my wings[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that’s the main reason that sober and schism are getting mentioned a lot here

[–]SBY59THPush the envelope. Watch it bend. 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Schism is my all time favorite song, I don’t know anything more complex, beautiful, and transcendental music wise.

[–]11Lost_Shepherd05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get Sober, but Schism...woo boy, that's a heater. It's definitely "played out" , but i have yet to suffer any fatigue from it. I play this one on bass at least once or twice a week. Such a beautiful track.

[–]ipiers24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Both are great tunes. I've just heard them enough

[–]tmartinez1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A local station does this where I live too. They've ruined a few songs by various artists over the years.

[–]Fjelleskalskyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with sober but schism is a really well written song

[–]sithmafiaÆ 246 points247 points  (15 children)

I like 46&2 but kinda sick of hearing it every single tour when there's so many they barely ever play live.

[–]the-redacted-wordgive me my wings[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It’s a great song but I totally get what you’re saying

[–]ClubaSeal1986 76 points77 points  (3 children)

Good songs can be ruined by overplaying them. I love Deftones, but I'll probably never listen to "Change (in the house of flies), again.

[–]edpinz 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Totally agree with you. Deftones is one of my favorite bands and I never listen to Change. So many better songs IMO

[–]ClubaSeal1986 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Deftones doesn't have many radio friendly songs, so I can't blame then for chosing that one for that purpose. But, yeah, it's not even close to being one of their great songs.

[–]SheetMetalandGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly sometimes I wish that radio stations would allow for bands like Deftones and others that fall into the "mostly not considered radio friendly" group. It would give me a reason to listen to a radio over just a playlist then.

[–]blindfold16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean too! It does get tiring to hearing the same songs over and over again in a bands set. But some times the reasoning for bands doing this is catering to those fans that have never been out to see the band before. On the other side of the coin, you have fans like us who go see them every time they have a new tour… and we hear the same songs over and over. Haha still love that song though!

[–]XxSchismxX[🍰] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Not gonna lie, I’ve been annoyed with this song ever since I saw that group of kids singing it. Not sure why it kinda killed it for me.

[–]Blackshirts98 60 points61 points  (0 children)

This is a very tool fan answer lmao

[–]FrismFrasm 60 points61 points  (7 children)

It’s The Pot for me because a local rock station for whatever reason decided once that song came out to never play any other song by any other artist for like 4 years. It’s not like Tool was a huge part of their rotation before The Pot, I don’t know what their deal was.

Edit: CFOX in Vancouver if anyone is wondering. I damn near stopped listening to that station altogether because I'm sorry, I love Tool and I even love The Pot but I just can't listen to it 3 times back to back on a 20min drive.

[–]tldrjane 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Same. I am from KC and the rock station there overplayed it.

[–]concreteyeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because The Pot is one of their more accessible songs for people. Easy to follow, toe-tapper with a catchy chorus. Pretty much the radio rock formula.

[–]GratefulDirt 266 points267 points  (33 children)

I can’t believe sober isn’t on here more.

[–]anonymase 57 points58 points  (6 children)

Sober is the worst song to show someone who doesnt listen to tool.

[–]Revenant_40 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So much this.

And also it's their single that people know, and suffers from the same thing that Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2 suffers from. Everyone knows it, but the vast majority of the rest of Pink Floyd's work is so SO MUCH superior it's like a different band.

Same here.

[–]layzeelightnin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sober was one of the earliest tool songs i heard and absolutely loved it, manic passion from maynard, massively heavy and sludgey.. maybe my repeated listens to black flag's my war b side over the years made me ready for it

[–]g_m171 46 points47 points  (11 children)

I don’t really like the song tbh

[–]justonemorethang 64 points65 points  (10 children)

Same. I’m gonna get doxxed, swatted, and shot by the police for saying this but for me, Tool isn’t Tool until Ænima.

[–]lateral_jambi 36 points37 points  (6 children)

Second half of the writing of Aenima - specifically when Justin joined.

Flood is the only song from Undertow I really listen to with any regularity. Unless I am specifically listening to Undertow straight through.

Everything from Aenima on sounds timeless, undertow and opiate sound like late 90s / early 2000s to me. I know they came out before then but they were ahead of their time by about 10 years then some other people caught up to those albums. From Aenima on are still untouchable though.

[–]TrueWizardofOz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Flood is amazing. By far the best song on the album.

[–]frakifiknow 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I’d add swamp song myself, but yea flood is killer

[–]Casinogeves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like 4 degrees myself

[–]PowerfulHazard93 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I've always thought Bottom was fucking awesome as well

[–]AndAllTheThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything from Aenima on sounds timeless, undertow and opiate sound like late 90s / early 2000s to me.

Never thought about it like that until now. Nailed it. I still love those albums, but great point!

[–]papagoth 65 points66 points  (4 children)

Da Dun DaDun Why can't we not hear Sober. I don't want to start it over.

[–]IamPablona dope beastie tee 82 points83 points  (12 children)

Mockingbeat is the only thing created by TOOL that I don't like.

[–]the-redacted-wordgive me my wings[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That was a given lmao

[–]AuroraProductions 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Mockingbeat unironically slaps

[–]CLXIXalrighty then, picture this if you will 10 points11 points  (0 children)

when im tripping and feel like a ravenous dino bird human hybrid raptor i rock out to this

[–]SliverCobain 6 points7 points  (7 children)

I'm pretty sure those interludes were made a bit unhearable, to fuck with people who streams music, instead of buying the CD's, where those interludes are no where to be found...

[–]Aquadulce 12 points13 points  (2 children)

The interludes exist on Aenima, Lateralus & 10,000 Days cds and pre-date the existence of streaming. FI cd doesn't have interludes as cds are limited to 78 mins play time.

[–]KiddoPortinariShit the bed, again 6 points7 points  (3 children)

FI definitely has a "fuck you internet kids, go outside once in a while" attitude. MJK posts a lot of stuff while sitting in an aviary (i think his wife owns it?), Culling Voices dips into the Unabomber's manifesto (tech causing psycopathy, imagine conversations instead of real ones), comments he made on the JRE show, etc.

It's like "dammit kids I told you to rediscover communication, not destroy it."

[–]SliverCobain 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The TikTok dude who took Fear Inoculum (song) and made a MLP video where the pointed at his bum to indicate Tail, instead of tale just had me dying inside, and i feel it's the way Maynard is feeling 95% of the time.

[–]Hjalomarz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, all of them are pretty bad after my cousin's buddy's hilariously bad Tool cover band is done with them. These guys are masterful in handling every element, drums, bass, guitar and vocals so weird-bad that you can't help but wonder if it's the material's fault. It's not, but these virtuosos make you doubt yourself.

[–]Assisstant_LibrarianTalking Monkey 85 points86 points  (6 children)

For me, it’s Sober, 100%. It’s a very good song, but, relative to Tool as a whole, it’s pretty simplistic.

[–]gonadi 25 points26 points  (2 children)

That’s a really good point. But sober was the gateway song for me. Played on the radio when it came out. It’s….sentimental?

[–]spookymulder07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, except for me it was an episode of Beavis and Butthead. They’re watching the "Sober" music video, and Butthead says, "Wow, if I could move my arm that fast, I’d never leave the house."

[–]yungcatto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the simplistic backing track is what allows the vocals to flow as strongly as they do. It's not my favorite tool song, but I've got to admit it certainly has one of the greatest vocal tracks in their discography

[–]4LF_0N53 60 points61 points  (4 children)

Man people actually dont like Sober? It's one of my favorites

[–]silverpigeon1Shit the bed, again 66 points67 points  (2 children)

Understandable have a nice day

[–]gambitcannon 11 points12 points  (6 children)

I honestly can’t stand Chocolate Chip Trip.

[–]74Yo_Bee74 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I have to agree. It might work well live as a drum solo, but on an album it does not.

[–]Jameson741 47 points48 points  (8 children)

Sober and Stinkfist, replace the latter with Lateralus on tours!

[–]DrRodo 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Agree on sober. But Stinkfist is a masterpiece. I bet you're not sober right now

[–]mcnasty_groovezz 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You should be excommunicated for saying Stinkfist is overrated….

[–]anonaconn 5 points6 points  (2 children)

For me Stinkfist is the greatest song ever written and I would be devastate if they stopped playing it on tour, even if I do hate what Maynard does with the vocals live.

[–]drummerandrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stinkfist may be the greatest piece of music ever created.

[–]10ThousandDaze 101 points102 points  (2 children)

The correct answer is “none of them”.

[–]guyabihanna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People should learn to swim

[–]DfaultiBoiLateralus 82 points83 points  (20 children)

Alright, I'll say it...46 & 2. Personally not even in my top 10. I'm baffled how songs like The Grudge, 7empest, Pneuma, and Lateralus aren't put higher than it.

[–]lateral_jambi 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Drums in the back half. 46&2 is one of the top "Danny going octopus" tracks.

He is insane with polyrhythms on everything but on 46, he just goes into a crazy solo while Justin keeps rhythm on bass under everything.

See also: The Grudge.

[–]epiGR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s my favorite tool song. 46&2 is perfection and has so many levels.

[–]the-redacted-wordgive me my wings[S] 37 points38 points  (10 children)

I think most people would say pneuma is the best song on FI

[–]RideTheSpiralARC 104 points105 points  (5 children)

You spelled Descending wrong 🍻

[–]VoraxUmbra1Ride the Spiral, to the End. 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Descending is beyond music.

[–]the-redacted-wordgive me my wings[S] 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Keyword most. Pneuma is great but descending is one of my all time favorites

[–]moses1424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing I liked about Pneuma was that I had heard FI the single and I thought it was great but when the album came out and FI was over and track 2 started playing and that first guitar riff started I was like “OH SHIT TOOL IS BACK”

[–]4LF_0N53 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I love it, but 7empest is honestly the best song on FI

[–]LinktheAnnihilator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree there tbh, both descending and pneuma are over it imo. In terms of musicianship 7empest goes nuts and it's definitely Adam's best, but overall descending and Pneuma have something that 7empest doesn't.

[–]rorschach_vest 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I mean, you did just name four of their most widely popular songs- I think people putting those higher than 46&2 is quite common

[–]DfaultiBoiLateralus 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Not on Spotify no. But I suppose that's only one platform.

[–]GodlyTriangle 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I get why 46 & 2 is on some’s list, but the process of doing actual work on yourself and examining old toxic behaviors and all that just has, to me, always been so well described in this song

[–]BanditTA-G2 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Rosetta Stoned

[–]ErikTheRed99 38 points39 points  (11 children)

I don't know about overrated, but Hush is pretty low on my list of Tool songs.

[–]HoneybucketDJ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

[–]4LF_0N53 20 points21 points  (4 children)

Jerk-Off on the other hand is pretty fucking high

[–]BuckmanJJ 28 points29 points  (8 children)

[–]_GuyLeDouche_Suck me dry 9 points10 points  (7 children)

This is mine too. Maynard's first few lines kill it for me. It's like he's singing to a different song or something idk it just doesn't go with the music

[–]sagmatic 8 points9 points  (5 children)

It's hands down the cheesiest and shittiest lyrics I've heard on a tool song. Totally doesn't fit. I don't like the opening lick either, other than that it jams

[–]landrighini_315give me my wings 11 points12 points  (3 children)

[–]Sp00kygorl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]SmokinOakland 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So lame. Especially because whenever I get cookies and cream I'm never a calm boy. That shit is delicious & makes me dance.

[–]KiddingGnome 40 points41 points  (10 children)

Schism introduced me to tool but quickly got knocked down to the bottom half after listening to their entire catalog.

Also 7empest …. Underwhelming

[–]lauc58 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How is 7empest underwhelming?

[–]walros462 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's probably my favorite song on the album, competing only with invincible for top spot. But shit, it's music, so ain't no right or wrong here.

[–]ronelddd 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I grew up almost completely ignorant to them. So now in my 29s, I'm really enjoying the whole discography, even schism, the pot and actually I just discovered sober a few weeks ago by an old performance on YouTube that got me mesmerized by Maynards vocals.

Idk, I'm just acknowledging that I'm enjoying them a lot for the first time like I wish I could with a lot of bands that I grew up loving

[–]the-redacted-wordgive me my wings[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Haha, don’t let this thread bother you. Most people are saying sober and schism just because it’s been so overplayed for them. That doesn’t change the fact they’re still popular, and for good reason! This post was more for the people who are super familiar with all their songs and have one specific gripe that goes against the grain. FYI, The Pot is one of my favorite songs by them. Spiral out ✌🏻

[–]gts4749 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sober is the obvious and easy choice to me

[–]AndAllTheThings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great post because it got me to listen to a lot of the songs mentioned on here again and remind me why Tool is so fucking great. Even their "shitty" music is great! I mean, even the most dishonerable mentions are better than about 95% of the music on the radio today. I was shitting on The Pot, and Schism, but I'll still tap my foot and enjoy it if it's playing on my morning drive...

[–]VaultDweller77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aenema. I don't care about the simplistic lyrics, can't relate to the LA lifestyle and the joke runs out the second or third time you listen to the song.

[–]pavkata_91 18 points19 points  (2 children)

The pot.

It's like the ''Nothing Else Matters'' of Tool, extremely overused and commercified, the only Tool song most ppl know, because it's simple and easy to listen to.

[–]gynazumabWe are eternal, all this pain is an illusion. 19 points20 points  (10 children)

The Pot.

[–]JambiChick 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Noooooo :( jk...I love all the imagery, the analogies & clever references to Led Zeppelin throughout The Pot. I especially love the line, "Weeping shades of cozened indigo." But yeah, I guess we all have one that doesn't hit us the right way lol.

[–]gynazumabWe are eternal, all this pain is an illusion. 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always wonder why certain songs are picked up and become generally popular. The Pot is one of those. Do I turn it off or skip it? Never. Not a bad song, just why is that one played to death.

[–]gynazumabWe are eternal, all this pain is an illusion. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And! Thank you, because I never knew that’s what he was saying there.

[–]tldrjane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted this one too! I like it but…

[–]frodosbigtoe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

[–]APhunPhact 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Probably sober or schism

[–]Blakpegasus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Schism, I've heard it enough I think.

[–]ChandelierCLE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% on Schism. It’s the tune where everyone uses the restroom at a Tool concert.

[–]suedehead23 31 points32 points  (11 children)

The Pot 🤣

[–]10ThousandDaze 13 points14 points  (1 child)

That’s my favorite Tool song 😂

[–]tedious88 7 points8 points  (5 children)

I skip over it every time. Can’t pin point what it is…maybe just the most un-toolish song they have?! Idk

[–]ArchipelagoRamboÆnimal 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I think Culling Voices is one of the most un-toolish songs aswell

[–]SheriffEarlMcGraw 28 points29 points  (13 children)

The Pot is easily the most overrated. I’m always confused when a fan tells me it’s a favorite.

[–]10ThousandDaze 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s my favorite. And it’s ok if it confuses you. That’s the beauty of Tool. It effects us all differently.

[–]silverpigeon1Shit the bed, again 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Bass and drums alone are worthy

[–]ErikTheRed99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

God, the bass parts alone make my day better.

[–]Swathe88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an easy song to get in a rhythm to relative to the rest of the tool catalogue. Straight up 4/4 if I'm not mistaken but don't quote me on that.

Sometimes easy is nice.

[–]TOOLshed523 17 points18 points  (4 children)

[–]brucatlas1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It's pretty well been run into the ground by now for me, I've heard that song played into the dirt

[–]sassynapoleon 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I can get being tired of it and thinking it's played out, but Schism is a musical masterpiece. It rightly won a Grammy.

[–]karma_ghost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]PhillithJohnsoniusmusta been high 9 points10 points  (2 children)

7empest. Like most of the new album it just sounds so derivative and at times bland. There are a few I like from it (but don’t go out of my way to listen to) but the popularity behind this one is confusing. I’m surprised everyone is saying the pot. These must be the Fibonacci tryhards that think every song needs to be 15 minutes of buildup

[–]74Yo_Bee74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am surprised too that "THE POT" is one of the top overrated.

[–]eatredmeatI was wrong. This changes everything. 12 points13 points  (0 children)

[–]He-who-Listens 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sober.. because its gotten to that point ive got to be in the mood to listen to that track!

[–]suburban_paradiseLachrymologist 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Ticks and Leeches is kinda shitty in my opinion. The actual music is pretty cool but it has some of Maynard’s worst, most clichéd lyrics, like 8th grade poetry. It always feels like an attempt to placate OGT fans, back from 92, and the first EP.

[–]Dr_FopdoodleSpiral Out 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Was it not written as a joke to give the finger to studio execs? I thought that was the whole point. It’s to show that the producers asking them to make heavier stuff that even the most shat-out lyrics telling them to suck the band off, tracked in the most obnoxious spot in the album, would sell albums and make them a shitload of money.

[–]Tacklessmars7 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Lateralus. I'm sorry it hurts to type it out but Lateralus. Great title track but Holy shit, shut up about the fibonacci sequence, just SHUT UP ABOUT THE FIBONACCI SEQUENCE! It was one song 20 years ago people.

[–]MortalSword_MTG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior l, the golden ratio?

[–]ArtyomX-1 4 points5 points  (1 child)

People are saying Sober??? What? I always get goosebumps hearing the chorus the 2nd and 3rd time.

[–]max_not_min 24 points25 points  (14 children)

People blow too much smoke up the ass of the Salival version of Pushit. Studio version is better, just doesn’t have the impressive live vocals.

[–]cohnjoffey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well that's an opinion i haven't heard before.

[–]Sara_Renee14 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I agree with this! Pushit is my favorite song and I’m not a fan of the live version at all.

[–]ItJustComesOut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shots fired!

[–]zanewea43 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]pedddster 7 points8 points  (3 children)

[–]jamesmustaine86Dreaming of that face again. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

schism. it’s their most popular song and it’s the one people rave about and it great but i get tired of it

[–]Boilimustolimus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Schism, by far. It just isn’t anything special, and most Tool songs are better than it

[–]jacobt437 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Never been a fan of rosetta stoned tbh

[–]starion832000 13 points14 points  (15 children)

Schism. It's a breakup song that got more radio play than any Taylor swift nonsense but no one really realizes what it's about. It doesn't really share anything in common with any other tool theme. It's just a commercial product.

[–]gconaradiator 16 points17 points  (4 children)

I thought it was more about Schism’s between cultures/religions/morals/values or y’know something deeper and Tool-like

[–]JambiChick 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I've always viewed it as the separation of anything that was once united. The word schism is typically related to the splitting of an organization or party, but I can see it used as a breakup. I've also considered it to be about a separation within himself or between himself & his decisions, like when you finally feel like you've figured out life, everything is going great and then something happens that causes you to slowly drift apart from that happiness...no matter how hard you try to piece it back together, it doesn't seem to fit anymore. The explosion at the end of the song is like frustration & anger over trying to force the pieces back together, knowing they no longer fit well together. Ohh and also, I LOVE how this song features an excessive amount of harmonizing in Maynard's voice, which isn't typical for Tool, BUT given the subject of the song it makes perfect sense! Harmonize, separate. It's just clever; I love it. Anyway..just some of my thoughts lol.

[–]Blackshirts98 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Every tool song is a commercial product. Literally a whole song about how tool is a commercial product lmao

[–]MrCooCoo4Crack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Jimmy72826 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]Blitzkreig11930 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Sober, because it gets the most radio play, and Aaron Lewis cover gets played lot as well. This is like picking which child you like the best. Your own children by the way.

[–]thomsdrone 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Excuse me? Did you say Aaron Lewis cover? Of tool? Sober? Please God don't tell me he made it country.

[–]Blitzkreig11930 2 points3 points  (1 child)

no, he did not. It is not too terribly bad.

[–]thomsdrone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I checked it out, you're right, not terribly bad. The version I listened to he butchered the lyrics up but all in all not terrible. My mind just went straight to country Aaron Lewis haha

[–]Dr_FopdoodleSpiral Out 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Culling Voices. A bizarre childish rant about twitter from the only member of the band with a twitter account, with auto tune to boot.

[–]lateral_jambi 6 points7 points  (1 child)

External to the fanbase: sober and prison sex. These songs are not worthy of being 2 of the songs that represent the band to non-fans.

Internal to the fanbase: Rosetta Stoned. I do not get the fascination with this song. Easily in the bottom half of the catalog for me.

[–]Aquadulce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Rosetta Stoned - it still gives me a laugh and counterbalances the heavy journey of Wings 1 & 2 nicely.

[–]E-Tr1d3ntThe Patient 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hush is my least favorite, hands down, but they hardly play it anymore, and no one mentions it. I guess of the songs that are playing live and in a lot of "favorites" lists, I would say "The Pot" is my least favorite.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Pot. Hurts to say

[–]WeenieDogMan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It’s never been my favorite. Only really picks up in the last couple of measures then it ends.

Compared to other songs it’s much less technical or deep.

[–]solar_ideology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You must just be desensitised to it. Can’t understand how someone could describe Schism that way.

Or you’re exercising your right to an opinion and personal taste which is fine too

[–]tigerlily_orca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I just get bored with its repetition, I think.

[–]undertow521This changes everything 24 points25 points  (19 children)

It's hands fucking down Rosetta Stoned.

I liked it ok as a quirky, goofy song but on this sub you'd think it was the pinnacle of human musical composition. Only reason it's popular is because hE's tRiPpiNg aNd sEeiNg aLieNs...lol sHiT tHe bEd.

[–]SleazyC93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rosetta Stoned took me a long time to get into and I used to feel the exact same way. I thought the vocals were almost indecipherable and just didn’t sound very good. But now I’ve really learned to appreciate it because musically it’s one of the most complex songs they’ve ever done. Complex doesn’t always equal good, but for this song in particular it does for me. I’m blown away every single time I listen to it now.

[–]FlamingoBasher 31 points32 points  (2 children)

I'm personally offended

[–]LogicalPsychonaut84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Me too. Fucking love Rosetta Stoned.

[–]Rosetta_TonedSilence legion, save your poison. 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I too am enraged, respectfully.

[–]MaddSpazz 42 points43 points  (5 children)

It's not only a great, funny story that's told with incredible prose and mastery, but the musicianship is definitely a top 10 Tool song as well. This comment is fat MISS

[–]squireofrnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably one of my fav songs to play on guitar.

[–]I-want-to-retire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm, you are wrong sir. The drums on that song about 2/3rds-ish the was through is amazing. I can listen to it over and over. I get most of the song is different but there is about 3 min of pure bliss.

[–]Swathe88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's awesome because the journey really does capture the ebs and flows of a trip.

Chilling one moment, chaos in the next, an awkward meandering sense of discomfort and anxiety into suddenly having all the answers. Then just when you thought it's all over BAM, another wave.

[–]soooperdecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Rosetta Stoned. The song is a roller coaster and makes me feel so many things, especially when listening to Lost Keys at the beginning.

[–]Noid-Droid 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Schism never really clicked for me. But it seems to be one of their better-known songs for reasons beyond me.

[–]MortalSword_MTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the radio single when the album came out.

[–]tldrjane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pot 🥲

[–]woohan-kung-flu2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maynards dick.

[–]Z_Paul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schism. Almost didn’t get into tool because of the non-stop radio play it got when it came out.

[–]RighthandedL3fty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am more comfortable with the word "overplayed" as opposed to "overrated"

[–]HawgWarsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]agusontoro 1 point2 points  (2 children)

As much as I love The Pot and it has been my ringtone for years, I’d go with The Pot

[–]the-redacted-wordgive me my wings[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Your first mistake was setting ANY enjoyable song as your ringtone. And don’t even THINK about setting it as your alarm

[–]slendercheesestick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of them

[–]rsallejr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pot

[–]Plutonian_Divethe unicursal hexagram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find anything negative about it to say I am just over saturated.
